You won’t go wrong with this scent. It’s warm, mature, sophisticated! Like Teacat below said, the scent is similar to Dunhill Pursuit and it also reminds me of Dunhill’s 51.3 N.
Orange and lavender greets the nose on its initial release. Then, mint, musk, and warm amber. Drydown of patchouli and more amber. This would work better on cool months.
Oh, and it’s long lasting (around 5 to 6 hours on 1 spray).

    Nice and great value scent.
I get orange, ginger, and a boozy thing going on with this.
Similar to Dunhill pursuit, which I also think is great bang for your buck.
I became bored with Legend quite quickly, and Presence is way too sickly for me, but this is good stuff.
    My fave from Mont Blanc.

Bljaaak is my comment on this one, tested in fragrance store,it smells like those chinese fragrances in $2 store,i don’t know maybe someone like but to me this is like Fly Killer nothing else…Not just this one most of this mont blanc fragrances have really funny ugly scents…

It is definetely boozey. if smelling like a glass of scotch is your thing, definetely give this one a try. it is super manly (and it gets harder and harder to find scents that dare to be that, so could be worth saving a bottle or two for the future).
It is very very similar to Dirty English by Juicy Couture. It is also great to compare the two side by side, as they are completely in the same league but the excecution is so different, as is USA and EU. Dirty English is wilder, louder, and really dirtier, while Exceptionnel is also the same ol masculine booze fest, it is a bit classier, more reserved and less daring.
i personally like them both. remind me of watching Jockey Ewing in Dallas as a kid, sipping on some fine ass scotch in his big office. Masculinity .

Wow. A fantastic and exotic combination of Citrus, Spices and Woody and sweet twist!
Exceptionnel is Dark,Ellegant, Powerful, deep and smells sucess!!
Smells a man who wants be exceptionnal! A very solidy and pleaseant fragrance!
A liitle but mature but if you are young and has a strong personality, it mays fit very well!
It remminds me a lot Terre de Hermès EDP.
Good sillage and 6 hrs of lasting on my skin.
    Unfortunatelly is very synthetic!
It’s a good suggestion for any day season but I don’t recommend it for very hot summer days!
    ———————————————————
WOW. Uma fantastica e exotica combinação de citrico, especiarias com um toque doce e amadeirado!
Exceptionnel é sombrio, elegante, poderoso, denso e cheira a sucesso!

The real “spice” bomb. It doesn’t smell anything like Viktor Rolf Spicebomb but that is to me sweet with spice and not a bomb of spice. Exceptionnel is a spicy orange bomb. When I first got it the opening was so spicy and a synthetic mix of all the notes clashing I gave it to my cousin. I’m glad he was playing madden online cause after a while it dried down and smelled very good in a mature gentlemen way. And the Sillage is great. He didn’t get to smell for playing madden so I took it back before he smelled it. This is not for younger men imo this is for a mature youngster for sure but to me it’s 30 and up. Spicy orange amber coffee bomb. Casual fragrance 2-3 sprays good for work etc…performance is very good even good enough for a club or bar dressed casual/mature. Perfect mr. serious mysterious Bruce Wayne frag the ladies won’t know where or how to place it because nothing smells like it.yet the Sillage will get their attention. Not a masterpiece but still very good for what it is. Gets the job done and you can’t beat the price
Mature, classy elegant serious and mysterious casual gentleman frag for 20 bucks that lasts forever with good Sillage and nice projection
Negatives are the overly spicy opening to mid and the notes clash at first making it smell super spicy and synthetic

Ugh, these high ratings mislead! Should be like 2…gave it away(and I don’t do that) was like a cheap ISO’ey Baldressini Ambre.

So in a nutshell this scent isn’t a bad scent but this is sxtremely boring to my nose.
It’s semi sweet, semi fresh, semi spicy and to my nose smells like a type of cleaner I’ve smelled in the past. It doesn’t really go strongly in any of those directions though making this a really boring scent.
Performance on my skin wasn’t great either. 3-6 hours with minimal projection after 30 minutes.
Overall rating— 6 out of 10 ! I really wish there was a neutral button because this isn’t horrible smelling but it’s not something that I would wear even though it’s cheap. ( I have plenty of even $5 playboy frags I’d pick to wear over this) and my gf did NOT like this.lol

Nice classy fragrance! This is the kind of fragrance you have once you have grown up (in a good way; you have a nice office job, a nice car, married and thinking about having kids)
It starts with an Ambery, orangy coffee notes. Very nice! Then, the mint and some flower linger in the background. At the end, it ends with the amber and the coffee notes with the darkness of the patchouli. It has a moderate longevity 6hrs, Versatile in colder times especially at night. Can be worn in office, casual and dates! This fragrance doesn’t scream attention, it a little bit soft, I know many people who enjoyed this scent if it project more.
    so I give it a 7/10. Recommended!

As I’ve said, this is a gorgeous perfume. I’ve kept this in a drawer, in its box, in the dark for a couple of years. It seems to have lost almost all of its fragrance. Has anyone else noticed this?

  11. :

    4 out of 5

It looks like prices on this are going up… It was only $19 for a 2.5oz bottle when I bought it, and today I thought I’d buy a backup bottle, only to find the price is now $28+ for a 2.5oz bottle. Not sure why the increase! I don’t see this scent on Mont Blanc’s website anymore. Definitely something to keep an eye on if you love this fragrance like I do!

Fantastic, underrated juice! One of my cold weather favorites, although I think it can be worn anytime of year.
Sillage is enough to be noticed but not offend. Longevity is enough to last throughout the entire work day or evening out.
The bottle is tasteful and artfully presented and the color of the juice perfectly matches the scent.
It starts out with a well balanced blast of orange, coffee, and amber. After about 15-20 minutes it dries down into a beautiful soft and creamy but still undeniably masculine, woody-like blend of patchouli, ginger, coffee, and amber with a slight minty freshness.
This fragrance smells much more expensive than it is and will definitely draw compliments and make you feel very confident.
Pick some up, you won’t be disappointed. I highly recommend this one!

Hats off to cvaile to recognizing the Aventus like dry down. I currently do not have a decant of Aventus but see this scent doing the same musky, patchouli amber waltz that Armaf’s Club Nuit Intense for men does with the base notes of ambergris, musk, patchouli, and vanilla. Aventus has patchouli in the mid notes and musk, vanilla, oak moss and ambergris in the base notes. I am not a chemist and do not know how this works but it seems like Aventus has that wonderful pineapple married to the birch and the dry-down allows for a weave of those trace notes to continue over the musky base. Armaf seems to do the same with it’s citrus/currant and the musky base.
Exceptionnel falls a little short to me for its contrasting notes of orange and coffee seem less distinct. I think if the orange was more pronounced and lasted longer it would be very much an Exceptionnel orange scented Aventus. This was created two years before Aventus and if you focus on the dry down you can see possibly where part of the riddle of Aventus’ formula began… or so I believe.
All that being said this is a very decent scent that can be worn year round. The orange is tamed by the darker coffee note becoming neither a fresh citrus nor a spiced orange like the old cheapie Guess by Marciano. It instead fits in a subdued orange type vibe. Nice but one reels at what could of been.

  14. :

Homme Exceptionnel for men is a great one especially the mandarin orange , lavender & amber which all I can get from but it’s great on my skin & in my humble opinion it goes all year round with good longevity & projection & good bottle design as well .
P.S. the only downside is that Montblanc should released it as 150 or even 200 ml not 75 ml ( Standard Size ).

    5 out of 5

A very classy, very masculine, yet light blend of salty mandarin, amber, patchouli, and woods. I don’t pick up much (if any) coffee in this, but I’d almost swear that there’s cedar in there. The mandarin top notes are smooth and bright and sweet and salty. The scent doesn’t evolve much, but I’m totally okay with that! Longevity is perfect and it will just barely last through an entire work day.
This is my new favorite work scent alongside Versace Pour Homme, Bleu De Channel, and Dior Homme Cologne and I could easily see this being someone’s go-to signature scent. It’s very versatile, and just as fitting for a date as it is for the office. I’ve received some of my most enthusiastic compliments on this scent, including a couple girls introducing themselves to me, just so they could ask for a closer sniff of what I was wearing.
I totally agree with the reviewer below me, this IS similar to Aventus, but with mandarin instead of the pineapple/lemon, and no smoky birch, black current, or vanilla. This is a mandarin version of what I THOUGHT Aventus would smell like before I smelled it. It’s reminiscent of Aventus, but more wearable, cheerful, approachable, and overall more versatile than Aventus. It’s a people pleaser, with that same smoky-citrus-patchouli vibe. If you like fruity batches of Aventus, you will likely enjoy this as well!
Aside from Sauvage, this is the only thing in my wardrobe that blends into the dry down of Aventus or Club De Nuit Intense. If I wore Aventus/CDNI the night before, I’ll be wearing Exceptionnel to work the next day. This is definitely one I’ll use and repurchase, unless I find something better, which I’ll be hard pressed to do.
For $20, this is a STEAL. It definitely smells like it’s worth much more! I can’t recommend this one enough. It’s in my top 5 for a very good reason!

  16. :

    5 out of 5

Is it just me or is the splash of the top notes highly reminiscent of the Aventus drydown?
Outside of the aforementioned performance and sillage limitations I am very, very impressed with the scent itself. With even moderate improvement in these areas this would be a rockstar.

This is the scent of home… Not MY home, but A home. Comforting and calming, while invigorating and refreshing at the same time. It captures everything a home is supposed to be like. And place where you can feel secure and happy. It evokes a peaceful atmosphere where contentment resides.
But underlying beneath the opening, is a darker more playful nature… a mysterious and unknown factor at work. Something deeper and undeniable. Something, desirable and delicious. It leaves a bittersweet tone lingering after the initial first impression. Must be the Coffee and Amber, subtlety joining together to form a seductive aroma.
And once the scent has reached its climax, and the opening fades away… The drydown comes in and silently finishes the process. Creating a smooth and masculine atmosphere.
    The longevity is quite remarkable, lasting all day on my clothes and skin. The sillage is great too, projecting comfortably outside of my personal space. The ladies love it (;
Indeed it is a unique scent. Original and definitely worth the price. Which is unbelievably cheap for the quality it is. Highly recommend.

Hey does anyone know what this actually smells like?
Because I own a bottle and I don’t know what it smells like.
Literally the weakest fragrance in my entire collection. It has the same performance straight onto the skin as the Bleu De Chanel I sprayed onto my hand 12 hours ago does right now.
Blind buy for $25 and I’m glad I didn’t pay more. Mad that I paid even that. What a waste.

    4 out of 5

    A very underrated fragrance overall.
Opens with a slightly discordant blend of Amber, Orange and Coffee but within 10 minutes those notes blend together very well with a touch of ginger, lavender and Patch coming through.
It remains sweet (not cloyingly so) yet complex through the drydown with all of the notes still being present at the 3 hour mark.
Not a bright fresh citrus nor a clean or aquatic citrus. This one has a cozy and inviting feel.
The heart of this comes off as somewhat similar to the late dry down of Ultra Zest to my nose. The Mugler presents creamy vanilla where this one has amber. So it’s not a clone of the Mugler offering at all, but they have enough in common.
I get about 6 hours useful longevity with a soft arms length projection for the first 2 hours before it moves closer to the body. Beyond 6 hours it’s a skin scent.
As it progresses to the final few of hours the amber notes begin to rise to the top while the orange notes fade to the background. This is not a powerhouse fragrance and thus could be used for many occasions. It will not offend.
I agree with others that it is a cool weather fragrance. In spite of the Orange accord, it’s warm and spicy amber would not be ideal for high temperatures.
For the price point its a well blended, skillfully executed fragrance that would be a versatile 3 season option for anyone who enjoys warm citrus scents, or for someone who wants Ultra Zest but can not find it.
You’ll likely enjoy this if you like:

the best perfume i’ve bought recently! i just love it.
it is a textbook oriental scent that takes me back to saudi arabia wow i blind bought it with no regrets yes sir!!!
    now here’s me quick review:
    1. dont have high expectations about projection because this one is not a projection monster but surely people will notice you for it.
    2. the smell is nothing short of phenomenal (read in irish accent)
    ok so here’s the breakdown:
    smell: 10/10
    projection: 5/10
    longevity: 1-2 hours
this one is definitely a skin scent. Buy only in the case if you dont mind smelling your frag and spraying every couple of minutes because that’s what i normally do with weak fragrances.
UPDATE: after a while of smelling it now I can detect synthetic sage which reminds me of our traditional green tea/mint and sage 🙂

    Sillage 6/10
    Profumo 7,5/10

  24. :

    5 out of 5

This is a very good perfume, menly and goes well for the cold nights, better for the winter.
The only problem is that for me the sillage is pretty weak, there is no strong “blast” after spraying it, afer The first spray feels like it was on your skin already for a couple of hours – and lasts about 5 hours at top.
For me its a 8/10 only because of the sillage – but it smells really really good!

  25. :

    4 out of 5

I’m on my second bottle of this beauty and I LOVE it!!
I’m not particularly good at picking out notes of fragrances… but this one is flamboyant and straight forward in the best way!
I smell exactly as listed above! A blast of coffee, bright juicy orange, and lavender. HEAVENLY COMBO!!
    So masculine and powerful!!
This is the complete opposite of generic! Smells like quality and expensive! Dark & daring but as I mentioned…still very straight forward and unapologetic.
The sillage is great! I would say about 5 feet.
Longevity…average. I get 4.5 or so hours of this…give or take an hour depending on how heavy-handedly I spray it.
    Overall Rating : 9/10
Now I’ve GOT to get my hands on what everyone is talking about! Mont Blanc – Legend! But this one is amazing! Try it if you have not guys! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

  29. :

    4 out of 5

Not bad not bad at all. 4 sprays and its lasts for about 6-7 hours.projection isnt to bad either. The best thing about this juice is definetly the drydown, smells so unique. Never smelt anything like it 8/10

  30. :

    4 out of 5

This juice is a smart casual scent, however it is very pungent especially the orange/citrus note. It is so overpowering that if you squirt too much on your neck it might end up giving you a sore throat.
Keep it to two squirts on the neck area and then on your wrist pulse points or your clothing if you like.
I have a average to semi moist skin type and medium dark in skin colour. On my skin type this juice lasts quite long, round about 10+ hours but the projection is not too great (average), also the sillage is average.
It’s definitely a good buy because it’s inexpensive due to the cheapish packaging/bottling because Mont Blanc puts most of the budget into making a quality perfume with decent quality ingredients and not using most of the budget into marketing the product, which is a good thing.

  31. :

just bought this one after wearing the sample for several days. Not the fan of the opening but the drydown is really unique and sensual. Not too fresh not too warm something in the middle. Not an offensive smell at all. Can be wore all day and night. lasting power is great on me. People always asking me what im wearing. I think people don’t even know this fragrance exist.lol. But they love the smell. Just try it if you have a chance.

  32. :

Not bad at all 3rd best frag from Mont Blanc after Legend and Individuel.

  33. :

    4 out of 5

I bought this as part of my ‘It’s cheap enough, I’ll give it a go…what’s the worst that can happen’ plan. I’m now on my 2 bottle and will always keep one among my collection.
I’m not sure what it is about this fragrance that I like so much. Ordinarily I lean more towards fresher, more citrusy scents but this is none of those.
It doesn’t particularly evolve and smells the same after 4 hours as it did when I put it on but that isn’t a criticism as so often a scent that starts off well ends up drying down to something that doesn’t suit you and you’re stuck with it, not really being able to smell it yourself for hours!
This smells warm and amber without being too musky it exudes a quiet calm class and I’m often asked what I’m wearing when I have it on.
I’ve had many of the Mont Blanc offerings and always find them to be like a good suit…quality, comfort and a superb ‘fit’ but without being flashy or gaudy.
You could wear this to a job interview and anyone who smelt it on you would think….”hmm quietly confident, doesn’t need to shout about himself but knows what suits him”.
Well worth having in your bathroom cabinet.

  34. :

What can I say I’m 22 and this is my biggest compliment getter so far. 4 women at work have said that I smell great and one seems to hover closely so she can have a whiff now and again. It’s easy to wear all day and night and pretty much all year round to be honest. It’s not my favorite scent personally but if I want to smell pleasant to others in a work environment I go with this. I love the burst of orange at the start, the dry down to amber and musk is nice not in your face which is what you want when working. I get no coffee though… maybe my work in a coffee shop has desensitized me to all but the strongest coffee? Projects and last long enough for the price and scenario that I use it in. Over all great work fragrance and cheap to boot.
    7/10

  35. :

    3 out of 5

I’m quite a fan of Mont Blanc’s fragrances, Presence being my number 1, this is very unusual, has a very coffee orange burst which is so good. The drydown then is so good, I get a very warm crystalised ginger, I disagree with some of the reviews about it disappearing quickly, I got about 6 hours out of this, love it.

  36. :

    4 out of 5

For me, this is Mont Blanc’s best male scent. Opens with orange and lavender, gradually turns powdery until the drydown of patchouli and amber. Warm smelling scent, ideal for autumn and winter. On my skin 1 spray lasts for 5-6 hours. If you want to smell exceptional but don’t want to use those run of the mill acquatics or sport scents, this long – lasting and subtle scent is for you. 9/10!!

A special, mid-mature, classy frag with great staying power lasting over 20 hours with good sillage..
    I applied 6 heavy sprays
0 – 4 hours- 8 inch projection. This frag has lots of class and quality, it’s sexy, modern and well done. The notes are coffee with a bitter, tangy fruity twist. Yes if you look hard enough you can pick out some amber and musk but the fruity coffee is so dominant
4 hours – 6 hours – 5 inch projection. This frag is like a middle distance runner in that it does not start all powerful and burn out after 3-4 hours, but instead it paces the projection well and the sillage is very good. Some patchoulli smokiness comes in
    6 hours – 8 hours – 3 inch projection
    8 – 9.5 hours – 1 inch projection, more smokiness
9.5 hours – 20 hours – Close to skin and on my skin the next day when I woke up with occasions sillage trails
This is special, simply put. Mont Blanc legend gets the mainstream plaudits but IMHO this frag has much better quality and so much more to offer, nvermind that I picked up a 50ml bottle for £15 online
I wore this at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in Epcot, Diseyworld, Orlando meeting princess’ with my family…I got a great reminder of the night the next morning as the frag was still on me smelling beautiful. You may only get a few moments in life for special occasions, so I recommend that you get this for a small amount of outlay

Sichuan pepper totally overpowers what looks to be a very interesting combination of ingredients on paper. Very dissapointed considering how much Legend was a fresh, green masterpiece. Not my thing at all. I think I would serve this on a piece of steak than wear it on my skin.

Elegant, dark, intense, masculine and mysterious. That should just about sum up MB Exceptionnel. The citrus and spices blend gracefully well with the heavier notes of amber and coffee. To my nose, the musk, lavender and patchouli play minor (but noticeable) roles. This will be my formal or semi-formal event scent. Sillage and longevity are both moderate. I get about 4 hours with 5 squirts before it becomes a skin scent. At $21 (1.7 oz.), re-applying after 4 hours will not break the bank.

  48. :

    5 out of 5

Mont Blanc Exceptionnel is very good. as others have mentioned, top notes are mandarin citrus and warm coffee and hints of lavender which dries down to a nice dark coffee with musk and amber. I could not really differentiate any of the middle notes mentioned. This is in the same axis as Dirty English, Dsquared potion, or Dunhill Pursuit but with Coffee and amber taking centerstage instead of Oud, Incense and leather. This makes Exceptionnel more sweet and less smoky than the others, making it a more comfortable fragrance. It is still more a formal fragrance than casual in my opinion. if not full tuxedo, at least a sports blazer and tie. Cant see myself wearing this to the beach!! Longevity and projection on this are on the soft side which means if you are habitually a 2 sprays guy, you wont get much Projection out of this. I get about 6-7 hours with 6 sprays and I can smell it on me faintly for a bit longer. Mont Blanc Exceptionnel is a rich, classy warm fragrance with hints of sweetness. Wonderful stuff. I love it. 8.5/10
Edit- As the weather gets colder, this shines more and more. Just covers you in a masculine aura that is warm and cozy with the mandarin citrus adding that little bit to freshness. I find myself reaching for this very often.

I hate to shit on the praise parade, as I love this fragrance, but I have to say that the bottle of Exceptionnel I have has horrible longevity. Perhaps I purchased a bad bottle. I get about about 1.5 hours on the skin and approximately the same on the clothes before it vanishes into a very faint amber. I think this fragrance is really amazing, but the longevity is absolute crap. I put seven shots on my shirt this afternoon, and they’re barely detectable a couple hours later.

Dark, intense, very masculine, very distinct and little mysterious fragrance, not for regular use, in the formal evenings.Very elegent. Go for it and you wont regret it.

All these years i was looking to find my new signature scent as a replacement of my precious Gucci Rush because it is discontinued on the market years ago.
After searching and searching hundrends of perfumes i tested and smelled some remarkable fraqs, some unique fraqs,i did blind buys,i purchased some just from enthousiasm but noone did manage to make me to feel like my beloved GR had managed.
I tested this one on a paper strip accidentaly today and it was AMAZING.
I am not going to identify the notes of the fraq,i don’t care to identify this one just i get the impression that this thing left me….hmmmmm wild thing…think i love you!!
This one and GR don’t share similarities except that they are woody fragrances (GR is much more spicy also and i find that has a bit more versatility) but i finally get as a result the impression that Exceptionnel gave me.
It was the same impression as GR had left me years ago(NOT BY THE SAME AROMA I REPEAT),and the point is that this impression for this one remains till now hours later and i caught my self don’t resist and want to smell this juice on a paper strip again and again.
From the very first sniff it was for me like a sting that hit my brain my bones and every single cell of my body.
Very clean, fresh, refined and elegant jouice.SO PLEASANT & WELL CRAFTED!!
I will test it on my skin asap just to check longevity and projection but i think these details could not stop me to get it and i have a sense that i am very close to my new signature scent.
THE KING IS DEAD….LONG LIVE TO THE NEW KING!!!!
    Conqs Mont Blanc
P.S: Marycon you are absolutely right!!

A really nice fragrance. Super spicy aroma with the mandarin note in the foreground. Suited to the autumn and winter. A lovely smell, suitable for all occasions. This fragrance took me by surprise, rated it instantly. Longevity good. Value for money, and worth owning.

Quite like it actually, except that it does not last. Great smell, but needs reapplication like very 3 hours or so..

very interesting scent, the top smells like cold coffee, and as the scent gets into the middle notes,it progresses into of warm coffee, with a hint of chocolate as you approach the Dry down. I can see this being a great office scent ..Plus the bottle is absolutely gorgeous, ,really starting to like the Mont blanc range. .no longevity problems here ,a solid 12 Hours ..
allso theres a dried orange peel smell that sort of stays throughout its duration, this note will be the make or break for you,,personally I love it .

This cologne is absolutely remarkable in every way. For about 100 dollars you can get a 100ml bottle, and it is the best money you will ever spend in your life. When I wear this cologne, I can’t stop smelling myself. It is my favorite scent by far. I use it whenever I am dressed really nicely, and to me the scent is synonymous with good taste, high culture, and sophistication. I would comfortably say that this is the best scent that I have ever owned, and that says a lot. A+, Mont Blanc has really outdone themselves this time.

My current favorite! Bought it at StrawberryNet. Waited some thirty (30) days for it to arrive but t’was worth the wait. My 3-year old son says that I smell yummy when I wear this perfume. My wife also says the same. 🙂
