I’ve been looking for a warm but simple vanilla fragrance so I went to try this today, on card I really liked it – prety much exactly what I was looking for but when I tried it on skin it really changed!
It feels much much sweeter on skin than on card, I was hoping for something just a little softer than the Perfume Parlour oil of “Warm Vanilla” but it smells more candied, more like a vanilla flavoured sweetie. A tad disappointed, I’ll just stick with my Perfume Parlour oil for now!
anto-menshikov – :
Simple and linear; play-doh vanilla. Skin scent lasts less than 4 hours.
LocDog82 – :
This is a sweet and basic, non-gourmand vanilla fragrance with a hint of spiciness and powdery tone to it. It has a warm and wearable scent that is impossible to hate. It’s a little bit plain on its own, which is why I usually use this perfume for layering. I also found the dry-down to be absolutely beautiful.
The fragrance stays very close to the skin and the longevity is around 4 hours on me. But overall, I will say that this perfume is quite satisfactory for its price.
replicaw23376 – :
More like a basic vanilla body mist. Its smells nice but I like a more burbon or deep vanilla. Its also not worth the time it takes to apply it as it only lasts 2 hours & has very poor sillage.
tartsousren – :
I was once in love with this perfume. It has a nice and warm scent that nobody hates. But thanks to my sensitive nose, this is too strong for me and I’ll easily get nauseous and headache. This is a nice scent to smell from people walking by but I can’t stay close for hours with them wearing this.
friday13 – :
Vanilla body mist
Winter test.
I’ve never had body shop scents last… seems there’s been a change somehow.
Vanilla, not sweet gourmand, it’s basic-fine, a bit spiced slightly.
Sprayed once to arm around 10am, now past 4pm and very slightly there in the skin.
Fine I guess. Good value.
vadok – :
This perfume is inexpensive excellent for keeping in your purse. As a vanilla its dosent cut it for me because it is way to powdery almost like it has baby talc in the notes and it has a quemical scent in it also it reminds you a bit of bug repalant or some sort of spray thats not for inhaling.
Its not awful its just not great and they could have done a better job
Modnikkks – :
As an out-and-out vanilla scent, this hints at sweetness but, most certainly, is not a gourmand-sugary scent. In fact, for most of its time on skin, it’s a play-doh sort of vanilla. Projection is fairly good for the duration of the fragrance; the longevity is well above average (around 8 hrs before becoming a skin scent – talking of the EdT and not the body mist here).
In all honesty, I got this primarily for layering purposes despite some people suggesting against it. I have to say that there’s a fair degree of truth to their opinions but, that said, it could play that role over specific compositions, e.g. it works over lavender-based/green fragrances but not citrus based ones.
Overall, though, I find it completely satisfactory for the price.
SHULLERRR – :
This little gem made me feel so stupid for spending over $100 to blind buy a limited edition vanilla Shalimar flanker that I don’t even wear. I like this so much more, and it was on sale for around $6. I have the body spray though, so I can’t really comment on sillage/longevity, I really want the perfume spray. It’s a simple, straightforward vanilla with a little bit of a playdoh aspect (which I personally love). All vanilla lovers should try this, it hits the spot for me.
maks198015 – :
In my search for the perfect vanilla fragrance, I saw this one coming by. A nice, sweet, innocent vanilla perfume. A little powdery, a little sweet and a little vanilla. That’s all you get. It doesn’t at all smell like real vanilla.
Sillage is soft, longevity is about 2 hours.
(BTW, my perfect vanilla fragrance eventually became Hypnotic Poison)
KinG_BaSik – :
I have the old version of this (probably from the early 2000s) in a small bottle with dark golden liquid and a gold cap.
Its a very true, gourmand vanilla with moderate sillage and very good longevity. A bit boring on its own, but great for layering with other fragrances.
HoseGelsheike – :
A nice scented vanilla, so girly and fresh. Although projection and longevity are terrible. Needed to the applied during the entire day.
akra2000 – :
Smells like straight vanilla but sharper. Sharpness comes from the amount of alcohol in there. This is one is good to mix with other perfumes but to me smells like fake vanilla because of the powdery note.
RIBAK2011 – :
I forgot that I had this in my collection. I bought it a few years ago while looking for vanilla scents. I heard they don’t test on animals which is a big plus for the company if still true. The bottle is simple and cute. The smell is nice, not very noticeable. A little sweet, warm, slight spice in there. It reminds me a bit of Coty Vanilla Musk, but more complex and sweeter than that one. Glad to have it but I rarely use it. Perhaps I will try it more this fall, it seems like a nice fall and winter scent.
YmHuK – :
Just awful. I’m a Body Shop vanilla scent fan and have Madagascan Vanilla and a vintage version of the Vanilla Oil. I expected to love this too but I cannot stand it. It smells like a vanilla slice that’s been left in the fridge too long and has acquired a whole lot of other unrelated scents that add up to something that made me head for the bathroom to scrub the whole debacle off.
scorpion_177 – :
I agree with tiababy; this is a lovely vanilla. Vanilla and Coconut are my favourites in the perfume range by The Body Shop. They have a simple yet rich, thick and luscious feel that is very cozy and comforting, and they are great for layering.
CalvinGZ – :
This is a very basic cupcake frosting vanilla but sometimes basic cupcake frosting vanilla is exactly what you need. It’s not plasticky or synthetic smelling and it doesn’t smell cheap, it’s just simple. And I love it. I’m wearing this on one hand and a sample of a $440 le labo vanilla on the other and I’m honestly enjoying this one more. It’s amazing for layering too.
maklom – :
Nice natural vanilla! I love wearing it to work along with the lotion. It doesn’t seem to last but when layered with the lotion probably lasts 6-8 hours. I love it along with the pink grapefruit scent!
prince-of-persa – :
To me, this smells exactly like vanilla tea, rather than vanilla cake or something gourmand. Not at all rich and dense like vanilla can be, but very much on the other end of that spectrum.
I investegated this as a potential layering option to give some of my perfumes a warmer touch, but this was too fresh and bright for that.
I don’t dislike it, but don’t like it either. So I’ll steer clear of the vote button 😉
awf041elipseskism – :
I got it yesterday and yeah i love it, it smell nice after dry down, silage is low, projection/longevity is excellent. But i need to spray it many time since it more to skin scent on me after few hours.. anyway it is affordable and good perfume for those who love and like vanilla smell on body.
Руслик – :
i love Vanilla and trying different Vanilla body scents. i love this Body Shop Vanilla scent, it is perfect, i would not change anything about it. i have tried vanilla scents that were a little too musky this is like pure vanilla, reminds me of vanilla cake, a little gourmand but still fresh…this might sound crazy but i this morning after my shower, i put on Britney Spears Radiance, then i layered it with body shop Vanilla, then ki layered with Purr by Katy Perry then i layered again with body shop vanilla….its beautiful, this is perfect for layering..it might sound crazy to layer three different scents but the result was amazing…its like a sweet creamy vanilla floral when layered with Radiance and Purr!
Fonzi – :
A not-too-sweet version of vanilla. I’m almost through my first bottle, I’m thinking of buying it once more. It’s the perfect vanilla smell for lazy days.
Aleks123 – :
Nice vanilla scent, especially after spraying. A little synthetic at drydown.
Likable, but quite plain indeed.
It’s stronger than body sprays, but light compared to other vanilla scents.
It’s nice, but I know better vanilla scents than this one.
mustang-76 – :
When I wear this I usually get compliments. Once a friend even told me “You smell so good! Like vanilla candles!” Hahaha 😀
breannaClef – :
A nice, cozy, foodie smell. Nothing special. Good for a plaid shirt and a crisp fall day, maybe going to eat Sunday dinner at the in-law’s place. This is not true vanilla – the search continues for me. It is, however, an innocuous scent that doesn’t smell “perfumey” near food, nor does it make the smell of the food unappetizing (good when you work in the restaurant business and also cook a lot at home). It’s nice. Too bad it’s not the real, true vanilla extract kind of smell I’ve been searching for.
nep8blu – :
I love this. I love vanilla as a flavour/scent/taste, and this will always be in my collection no matter how often or quickly I run out of it.
It’s a lovely, warm, sweet, friendly, almost fruity smell. It has decent lasting power, but after a while it’s almost impossible to detect unless you literally put your nose against me and sniff.
I’d say it’s worth the price though, despite the sillage issue. It’s cheap enough to keep reapplying and buying without feeling like you’re throwing away money.
Of all the one-note vanilla’s I’ve smelled, the only one that comes close to this would be Lush’s Vanillary. If you want something a little less sweet but much better lasting power and sillage, go for that.
zzbananzz – :
Smells damn near identical to the Coconut scent. I wanted to buy this because it was on sale and I usually love vanilla, but I couldn’t rationalize buying it when I have the coconut body mist at home.
The Body Shop seems to be going the alternate route of Bath & Body Works and Lush by focusing on simple, one-note fragrances so it’s sad when they can’t even get that one note right…
MarioSiroti – :
I had to rewrite my review after realizing that this scent in the body spray formula smells exactly like Lip Smackers or Bon Belle Vanilla ChapStick.
Like lip balm for little kids.
Great longevity for a body spray and different from all my other vanillas. A little bit waxy, frothy, powdery and light.
jfgsdtdpkuzkekzm – :
A very powdery vanilla, not sweet and creamy at all. If you prefer powdery stuff, you’ll probably enjoy it.
uhbujhmtd – :
Way too sharp and artificial smelling… Almost like bug spray
dubineckiy – :
Very simple and pleasant.
I was at the Body Shop recently to test something patchouli or Oud, and they had neither… sigh. ( You know you’re in perfume wilderness when the shop attendant doesn’t know what ‘oud’ is! )
I had to try SOMETHING before leaving, and have not regretted it. This vanilla has a soft and comforting quality that non-perfume lovers will find very appealing. It’s so simple that I can imagine giving it to a kindergartener, in fact.
For a ‘white’ vanilla with similar light sillage but a touch more floral, my pick would be Gale Hayman’s Delicious Vanilla. Of the two, it is a bit more complex and interesting. Both are lovely vanillas, with very little else going on.
armen7878 – :
The body mist smells nothing like the original Vanilla from the 90`s.
It smells really artificial, and makes me nauseaus actually.
The edt is better though.
Bring back the old REAL vanilla!
Fanerkorano – :
I first bought the body mist on sale and i totally falling in love with the scents of simple vanilla and a touch of sugarcane which make it a lil bit sugary yet not too foody. I’m in love with it and currently waiting for my 2nd bottle on delivery. Yay!
vfrc2000 – :
I love the smell of vanilla. Even the body mist stays longer than I thought it would be, it stays up to 8 hours on me. Perfect for daily use, it feels warm and cozy when I use it.
kreshbandikyt – :
This is far too simple and linear, like Yves Rocher’s vanilla EDT. I dislike both, they both fall flat and smell cheap on me. The older EDT is much better and had a peachy-brownsugar nuance to it making it more layered and delicious. I also LOVED the discontinued vanilla perfume oil, still the best cheap/mainstream vanilla I have ever tried. I’m really sad that it has been replaced with this.
rusbos – :
I wanted a really simple vanilla fragrance, and this does the job very well. It is a sweet smell, but in a comforting, slightly floral way- I feel that it smells more natural than some of the “candy” type perfumes that are available at this price level.
The EDT version is much lighter and less cloying than the EDP oil version.
I would say that it lasts fairly well- I can still catch it after 5 hours- but it is not a statement perfume and does not project at all. I usually wear it alone but you could definitely layer it with other fragrances to add softness.
gcfFDXSdtfsmhkgqun – :
TBS Vanilla is a nice scent, but expectation must be low I guess. It’s just a vanilla scent, what can be more?
It can be a good choice for hot summer days, beach usage etc.
By the way, It projects amazingly on blonde’s skin!
Viktorius – :
An earthy vanilla. Very earthy. I feel dirt tones to it. Quite like it, but it can be cloying sometimes.
mpj511elipseskism – :
It’s fine I guess. Nothing too amazing about it. Its the basic vanilla smell. So if you like vanilla you can get this one…
slava412 – :
This one is amazing and very long lasting. It use it for long college days and it’s absolutely perfect for work/school.
Igos – :
To everyone who’s been wondering (like I was before I went out to The Body Shop and sampled some on myself): this smells about 90% similar to the recently discontinued white lid Vanilla Perfume Oil. It’s got the same floral notes surrounding a vanilla base.I only went to TBS yesterday, because I thought that this one may smell more like a foody vanilla (as some reviewers have felt), so I went to TBS with the intention of buying it. I already have a mostly full Vanilla Perfume Oil (which also lasts much longer since it’s basically a pure parfum), so I’m definitely not buying this EDT version. On me, it lasted about 4 to 5 hours- not too impressive, but unsurprising for an EDT. Sillage was low to moderate. Drydown smelled more foody than the top notes, but still closely resembled the discontinued Vanilla Perfume Oil. For vanilla fans who don’t have the perfume oil, go ahead and buy this because it is a pleasant vanilla perfume despite the few shortcomings I have mentioned.
мурочка – :
Very pretty vanilla! I like simple scents.
The body mist appears to last slightly longer than the edt!
Wish these lasted long they would be perfect!
hef833InsuffBooni – :
the original (darker bottle, tiny cap) was so much nicer. i tried this in the shop, lasted an hour maybe before i couldn’t smell it, and didn’t have that heavy warming note. it was weak and sweet. smelt like fake vanilla, like food colourings, rather than vanilla itself. not impressed with this one. keeping a tight hold on my last bottle of the original.
ykr024Diobtetty – :
Being the single note fragrance that it is, Vanilla by TBS does not develop much. It’s as simple as it gets. Don’t let this discourage you from giving it a try or maybe purchasing it. It’s surprisingly pleasant, not at all cloying and not even slightly foody. It has a burnt quality to it, vaguely reminiscent of the guerlinade in Shalimar. This adds to what could have been just a linear vanilla whif, a soft and tingly fluffiness that is just amazing.
If you ever purchase this one, you can be sure to use it on a daily basis. And don’t be afraid that you might overdo it. More than two spritzes are fine. It stays close to the skin and is very subtle even when sniffed from up close.
TROLL777 – :
Some years ago I had vanilla perfume oil from the body shop (white cap). I didnt like it, it smelled too sweet/fruity for my taste. I never tried the edt of this neither the body mist. I guess it was a mistake, because I tried the body mist recently and it just smells divine. Very sensual, very cosy caramellized vanilla smell with a musky undertone — not foody but delicious. The EDT does not smell like this though, it smells more synthetic.
Naruto555 – :
Truly much vanilla fragrance!
This fragrance really smells truly vanilla, not a sugar powder. It’s sweet, warm, but not too heavy vanilla fragrance. It’s so delightful that even brings holiday mood to me!:)
I only wish it was more long-lasing and had a more huge sillage. I can’t say that it fades away quickly. But I prefer to spray it on my hair, because it’s more long-lasting there than on my skin. Maybe the reason is that other people feel it on me more than I feel it on myself. I want to enjoy it, too:))) The reason is that it seems to me close to skin. With time perfumes usually become more rich and long-lasting, but I’m not sure that it will not end sooner, because it’s so yummy charming:)
But for its price it’s just awesome. It even smells truly vanilla more than any luxe fragrances I’ve tried. Usually they smell gourmand vanilla like sugar powder(
Very good fragrance for its price! The quality is higher than the price. If it was more rich and more truly vanilla, I would gladly pay much more. But anyway I’m happy because it reminds me of my favorite vanilla pudding everytime:))) Honey sweetness truly vanilla!
Delicious!!!
toly 53 – :
i appreciate the fact some of the body shop products (not sure) use essential oils. but this vanilla spray reminds me of those pine shaped car freshner… kinda sickening.
nike – :
Well how much was I happy to see Vanilla perfume back on the shelves in The Body Shop?! THIS MUCH!!!! 😀 I did a little giddy dance when I bought a new bottle! I just really wish The Body Shop would make their mind up on whether to keep a product going or not. I’ve never known something to and fro on the shelves as much. I think it’s pretty safe to say that vanilla is a VERY popular scent universally. It’s adored by both men and women. So you would think it be best pleasing your customers by keeping it on the shelves FOREVER! Take note naughty Body Shop (even though you won’t see this lol) – DO NOT remove from the shelves ever again!!
Also like to add that their Chocomania fragrance is delightful too (it hasn’t been added yet to the fragrantica catalogue). The Chocomania fragrance blended with vanilla makes for a very delicious treat on your skin and for your senses!
Молот – :
And one thing I love from this perfume is its longevity.. I usually spray it behind my ears or on my neck and it lasts for 8 hrs. Sometimes when I wake up in the morning it’s still there.
VRaqoxnP – :
I love this perfume SO MUCH because my boyfriend bought it for me which it means he loves this scent. It was surprising because my boyfriend never give a damn about fragrance etc*
HeawlDwerne – :
I was supposed to get Brazil Nut instead of this. Since I could not redeem my TBS points with Brazil Nut ( the SA said that it is not a part of the redeemable EDT, while I clearly remember the other SA said it is!), I think this is the most decent of the summer EDTs ( I already have Moringa), so I bought it.
I did not expect much, just a simple vanilla that hopefully is inoffensive enough to be my choice when I can not choose. I have the Vanilla body butter duo, but I did not know it is the same with this, but it is, so I can layer them. I agree that this vanilla meets my expectation. It is powdery, with slight sweetness. The sillage meets the inoffensive range perfectly. It will not cloy in hot weather, and it is even prettier on the dry down. I also find a slight similarity to D&G Pour Femme, I actually prefer vanilla, since D&G is too sweet. For the price, it’s really purchase-worthy!
smail-1001_99 – :
This vanilla mist gets the right blend of warm and soft. I like this because it can be worn in any weather without being over powering. It’s also great for layering over any other scent.
VELS1975 – :
This is a warm vanilla scent. It reminds me of a discontinued body spray from Bath and Body Works called Fresh Vanilla. It’s pretty, and cozy but isn’t a must have.
1Glync – :
one of my favourite vanilla perfume and the lasting power is good^^ worth with the money
serginaz – :
I tried this vanilla today & I wasn’t sure what to think.. After a while when it dried down I smelt something rubbery or plasticy, It reminds me of those vanilla scented rubber erasers I used to have when I was a kid.
ehy591InsuffBooni – :
This is a great all season vanilla! It is light, not too sweet, perfect even for hot weather. It is fairly single note but I can detect some sort of woody accord which adds some depth. What is really amazing is how long it lasts — the EDT lasted 6 hours on me, which is unheard of. I can’t get fragrances ten times the price to last that long. Very impressive! The inexpensive vanilla that could!
Usama – :
*This is a review for the body mist version of this fragrance.
I mostly got this to wear in the warmer months of the year when a majority of vanilla perfumes become way too heavy and cloying. I am super glad that this is not too sweet. I love how fresh it is and its similar to vanilla extract as MsYvette mentioned in her review below. Its great on wear on casual day when you want smell clean and fresh but at the same time a tiny bit sweet. The interesting thing about this is that its actually a tiny bit powdery on my skin. To me I feel like there might be a floral note lingering somewhere in the fragrance, but I can’t tell what it is…
Overall this is great to wear all year long and its also great for layering with other perfumes. The lasting power is also pretty impressive for a body mist about 6 hours, but the last hours or so before it wears off its pretty much a skin scent.
AN1UTA – :
As someone already mentioned, it’s a fresh, cool type of vanilla. I personally prefer the freshness of this one compared to the older version. This one reminds me of pure vanilla extract. I would say it’s the only vanilla scented fragrance I can wear during the warmer months. (I love vanilla, but other vanilla fragrances tend to be too cloying on me during the summer.) It especially smells lovely when I spritz it right after the shower. It has a pleasant type of sweetness that isn’t overpowering at all.
It doesn’t have outstanding sillage or lasting power (5 hours tops), but it’s still detectable. My boyfriend can smell this on me; in fact, he adores this fragrance and compliments how good I smell every time I wear this.
If you’re looking for a gourmand, cozy type of vanilla for winter, you might not enjoy this. But if you want to smell fresh and vanillary at the same time, you might want to give this a try.
Arskii – :
Nice but not my favorite : it’s a sort of fresh vanilla and I prefer warm vanilla.
gsmclown – :
Being crazy about vanilla..i will have to try this one. I love the Body Shop vanilla oil but apparently they have discontinued the original one.
