Description

Songes or Dreams is a romantic fragrant poem, rich and soft fragrance based on luminous jasmine note. The heart is ruled by woodsy powdery accords, while the base is composed of creamy French vanilla notes and beautiful white flowers.

The fragrance is very romantic, a bit dreamy; jasmine is unobtrusively dominating the charming powdery cloud of flowers and vanilla.

The composition includes the notes of Frangipani and Tiare flowers, jasmine Sambac absolute, ylang-ylang and French vanilla. It was created in 2005 by Isabelle Doyen.

Beside in classical Annick Goutal bottles this fragrance is available in a festive ‘Moon Bottle’. The top in a shape of moon has replaced the kissing butterflies. The idea for the two kissing butterflies Annick Goutal got when she saw a similar theme bottle from 1925.

Oh, the opening! So heady with creamy yellow tropical flowers. The first time I smelled this it felt familiar but I could never place it. Just a yellow puffball cloud of ylang ylang and gardenia – heaven! Songes is the perfect name and the bottle exactly represents the yellow billowy gorgeousness.
On me the dry down takes a turn towards yellow flowers plus delicious butter cake batter. My skin amps up the vanilla sweetness in this and it is indescribable – vanilla-gardenia-sweetness with that plumeria undertone. So lovely it’s hard to put into words, somehow other worldly. This perfume is very moving.

I tried so hard to like it but i cant. It smells like 60 years old granma after shower. It has been on my shelf over 2 years untouched. Sad

The celebration of love and classical, voluptuous feminine seduction. Most of my collection runs androgynous and I miss those old world white florals that turn heads. By the way this does not smell like an old lady. Is it mature? Yes, and it is also complex, timeless, and well made. And yet I think whoever wears this perfume probably exudes confidence and a quiet sensuality. Songes makes me feel like a goddess walking by the light of the full moon.

I really want to like this one. I love tropical and jasmine fragrances so I should have lived this. However it is musty and woody and takes away from the beautiful florals

This was my signature for many years. On me, it smells like a sparkling, polished, multi-faceted gardenia. It’s floral, obviously, but not in a way that you’d expect. It sets itself apart from other white florals, in that it is very sexy but very composed at the same time. I always described this scent as a warm, goodbye hug from mum when she’s ready to go out for the night, all dressed up for a special occasion. Expect to get a lot of compliments; this is such a crowd pleaser.

I tried this at the start of my ahem perfume journey and remember it as a no. I had the urge to try it again with the recent uk heatwave and bought a decant, now i flipping love it. Gorgeous sunny uplifting tropical island scent. My tastes have definitely changed and I so regret you can’t buy this for buttons anymore as I’d love a full bottle.

It was thanks to Annick Goutal and her Matin d’Orage that I discovered that I can in fact enjoy select white floral scents very much, even though they’ll probably never be my favourite perfume category in general. So I was pretty eager to try Songes as well, especially since it has the added attraction of the tropical aspect, and a very good reputation to boot. And I’m glad to say I wasn’t disappointed!
There is indeed a family likeness to Un Matin d’Orage, to my nose, especially in the early heart of the development. The jasmine note is dominant on my skin at this point, and it’s the same kind in both perfumes: natural, lifelike even, and very bold and strong. In the other phases the tropical aspect is more apparent, but I don’t detect any vanilla: just heady, creamy, even buttery, tropical flowers. Romantic and dreamy indeed, I’ll buy it!
It’s obviously summery in theme, but I think I’d prefer to wear it in the beginning of spring when I’m looking forward to the warm seasons: it’s just a little too heavy for an actual hot summer day like today.

You mean to tell me there is no tuberose note in this buttery tuberose bomb that’s currently radiating from the crook of my arm to a worrying extent as I type this? Creamy dreamy clouds of buxom white flowers. Songes goes beyond the clichéd “weapon of seduction” into chemical warfare territory and it’s too hardcore for me, but do I ever respect it.

Echo chamber review here. This is a beauty and I’m getting more than 4 hours of moderate projection since initial application from an EDT. Wow. Powerful, heady white flowers with jasmine and tiara.
Songes is beloved for a reason. I have many tropical based perfumes, but this is one of my favorites.

I wanted to like Songes, I really did. My love of white florals is dependent upon it’s pairing with green or fresh accords, and the presence of myrrh gives this a rich oppulence that only suffocates me. The reviews here are so sweet on this tender perfume, but ultimately I find it too sweet and rich for my taste. For a tropical-vibe perfume, I prefer Bronze Goddess. I’d be happy to swap a 1.7 oz EDT to someone who wants it.

Definitely a CLASSY fragrance (review for the EDT). All the listed notes are vivid in a great and well balanced harmony. It is, to my nose, considered a florally sweet fragrance in a “gourmand” way as it is so comforting and all the flowers smell so “yummy”. Some certain flowers when got mixed together can smell like a scent of another flower. Songes does smell like it has a little
bit of “tuberose” in it and in fact actual tuberose smells quite similar to gardenia in a way.
I like Songes best in cool days (spring time). It does remind me of the “class”, and fits right in the era of Cacharel Anais Anais. If you like Anais Anais EDT, you will like this one.

I love Songes. Just got the sample of edp version, and oh, I like it a lot. It’s sweet and creamy floral, when go outside for a walk, it goes with the wind and dances around me. Really nice and happy scent. The sillage is moderate and it last long through my work day (10 hrs). Definitely will get it for myself as a birthday present later.

Please ignore all the bad reviews! This is a gorgeous Hollywood vintage era cream soda & powdery compact scent!
With a tropical twist and yellow light! It’s all blush pink button-tuck and satin ribbons…….
    Try it!!

Smells like yellow cake mixed with wood and pepper and my grandma (who used to wear Shalimar.) Smells like an older perfume. makes me think of bright yellow. On me, this just turns into wood chips and pencil shavings covered in sugar. Not for me.

  15. :

I was expecting a mystical melange of florals that transcends the floral category; I didn’t get it. On wrists, I get gardenia (that’s what tiare smells like on me) with the later addition of ylang ylang and wood. The gardenia slips away and I get nothing but ylang ylang and wood in the drydown. I don’t see wood in the notes here, but there’s something grounding, deep, and organic accompanying the ylang ylang. It’s pretty whatever it is. 2nd time on the back of hand: only ylang ylang, wood, and vanilla very briefly upon applying.
This smells vintage and I recognize how this might feel rich and alluring to people creating that dreamy feeling of transport or romance. I don’t like florals that much and I just do tolerate ylang ylang. This isn’t for me.

Just sharing with other Fragranticans how I started properly with scent. I live in Devon, and one autumn day I smelled something I can only describe as a creamy white ribbon of scent, stretching over a mile on a country track. I met the lady, but was too shy to ask for her scent. So I looked for it. It was Songes! It took me several months, going by notes and samples. Songes is absolutely strong enough to trail in the air like this, on a calm day. I felt like the character in “Perfume”. What a great beginning 🙂

I’ve just been gifted 100ml of Songes EDT.
It wasn’t to my friend’s taste and it’s not to mine so I think I’ll be selling.
I sniffed a spray and straightaway said ‘It’s like something from .. the 1940s’.
I’m really surprised it was created in 2005 but, and I mean this sincerely – kudos, in today’s world of sugar, for bravery.
I’ve tried a spray on my wrist and my brain says smoke/spice/coconut, a weird brew, to my nose. Or from a slightly different angle – Blue Grass meets Mitsouko, in fact Blue Grass was my very first thought.
Oh! Latest sniff – a woodland witch has run a bubblebath and vanilla cakes are baking in her kitchen … hmm ..
Interesting, and I like older perfumes over modern but I just can’t take the spice element mainly, so I’ll be passing this on.

    Oh, Songes…
I have the EDT. The batch code checked out as 2010 and the perfume itself is really dark, likely an effect of aging due to the vanilla. The box is a paperboard one-piece and the embellishment is a wide, sheer ribbon as shown in the picture on this page, not the two-piece box and thinner cord as on current release bottles. I don’t know whether there are any scent differences between the two, but it certainly is possible.
My Songes is super rich and heady, the headiest perfume I own by some margin. It really packs a wallop, so very careful, light application is recommended. I cannot imagine what the EDP must smell like given the sheer force present in the EDT, and that’s coming from a lover of a number of the more beastly scents. It smells distinctly old-fashioned purely because hardly anyone is making perfumes with this level of full-bodied character anymore. In addition to the obvious florals and vanilla, I get musk and a lightly indolic facet, and it also reminds me of a tropical floral incense stick or cone. The Annick Goutal retail site lists spices, patchouli, and benzoin in addition to the notes listed here, so that could help account for the pleasant surprise I got! The drydown is smooth, sweet, and powdery.
Songes is straight out of another era. Beautiful.

Ah hah!!!! This is the glorious, beautiful, amazing “mystery” scent that always emanated from my aunt’s beautiful bedroom. I have a story to share, so bear with me..:) When I was a child, I had an aunt who was one of a kind, one who was not afraid to speak her mind, and had a heart of gold. Ohh, how I loved this aunt….She had a fancy staircase going up to her Barbie-doll-pink bedroom, and looking out her bedroom window, you could see a beautiful view of the city….As a child, to me, it literally looked like and felt like a princess’s bedroom. And the smell was so glorious, you knew right away, where you were. A magical, mysterious smell…beautiful!!!
Strangely, I never thought to ask what perfume she wore. She likely would not have told her secret, anyway. I would a couple of times smell the perfumes she had on her vanity, a mere handful, and none of them were “that smell”..that unforgettable beauteous glorious smell.. Now, this obviously is not the exact fragrance she had (this was created in 2005, my memories are back to the 1970/80’s), but….the smell..spot-on!! When you find a fragrance that you associate with a beautiful and happy memory, it has special meaning..it does for me, anyway.
So..I have no idea why I waited to order Songes. Little did I know..lol 🙂
As soon as I took it out of it pretty little box, my nose went to fragrance Nirvana..and more importantly, back to my aunt’s glorious bedroom. I sniffed, and sniffed, and sniffed…I literally could not stop sniffing the bottle, I was in total nirvana!! Dare I spray this glorious scent..??!! Ohhh yeah!!! Spritzing this..just beautiful.
Sweet, but by no means a candy-bomb. No ma’am (or sir)!! This is a grown woman’s sweetness, with a little clean floral added in for good measure. Sounds kind of basic, right..? Wrong. This perfume is special. One of a kind. Just like my aunt. And..the bottle totally looks like something that would have been on her vanity.
Oh, does this take me back..this might not be much of a “modern” fragrance, and….that is what makes this all the more beautiful, in my humble opinion. BEAUTIFUL.
This might not be an everyday fragrance (oh why not??! lol), it might be more for special occasions and evenings out, that sort of thing. But one thing is for sure..this is memorable, in the most beautiful way possible. L❤️VE!!!!

I LOVE this. This is the frangipani I’ve been searching for. It smells so much like the Prada La Femme L’Eau that is exclusive to Macy’s right now. I should say Prada La Femme L’ Eau (the pink bottle) smells like this fragrance, because this was first. Anyway this is simply a light beautiful delicate floral that is outstanding. I love frangipani ylang combination. It’s sweet and feminine without being cloying. It’s not offensive and can be worn year round. It is unique. I love this.

This perfume literally has the features of a masterpiece, while not being much advertised – which is capital for anyone who wishes to emit a smell not addressed to the massses.
Although not a fan of very floral perfumes myself, I find that “Songes” is characterised by a perfection of proportions:
    1) A mysterious and solid base to create the best atmoshpere.
    2) A both deliberate and interesting choice of white floral notes.
    3) A space for the skin elements to complete the scent by polishing a successful recipe.
In a few words, wearing “Songes” expresses a multi-faceted personality, that is sophisticated yet sentient, sensibile and sensual, and it may be worn both in winter and in summer depending on whether someone chooses an EDP or an EDT.
Personally I choose the EDP whenever I find it available, because on my skin it displays great sillage – heavy I dare say – and longevity with only a slight change of the scent by the end of the day.
This perfume is definitely a “head turner” for various reasons and, as far as I am concerned, it is one of the best – if not the best – of the house of Goutal.

Songes is like a cool and bright day when the birds are chirping and butterflies are flying in the air. I can smell refreshing and realistic jasmine in the opening. It’s not as overwhelming like the jasmine in Mugler Alien. The scent gets slightly thicker and sweeter once it settles on the skin, kind of like osmanthus. Sillage is about moderate.
Update: just looked at my decant bottle, it says EDT. The longevity is better than many other perfumes in summery floral category. Songes is aptly named, definitely a perfume of dreams.

I have not yet smelt this on my skin, but on card it is very very lovely. At first, I thought I was smelling tuberose but that could be a very creamy fragipani.
The strip I sprayed it on is still completely fragrant, leaving me very dumbfounded. Judging by how it smelt on the card, it may be a bit too much for me but I’ll just have to spritz it on just to try it. If its toned down on ms, it’d be so lovely and perfect for me

Truly beautiful rich, sweet floral. On me, mainly jasmine but at the sweeter end. Some incense and vanilla in the drydown. A warm and comforting scent for high summer (I have the EDT). Finely balanced. Everyone I’ve let sniff it thinks it’s just gorgeous. Uber-feminine, I would say, in keeping with many from this house. It’s like wearing a silk slip under your dress.

Songes, such a beautiful name for a perfume, fortunately the fragrance is not worse than its name. I had a small sample of EDP and tried it many times, very strong and heavy but I loved it. On me it is a lot of jasmine and vanilla. It is kind of addiction. But finally I bought EDT version because EDP was too strong and I couldn´t wear it among people. This is more acceptable.

This review is about the EDP.
On me, Songes starts spicy, almost a bit smokey and soon becomes vanillic and woody. I wondered where the florals were that I liked so much when I tested it on paper.
The answer is that they come in a later. And then they are gorgeous. Ylang ylang and frangipani in all their warm, tropical and fresh facets. The beautiful dry vanilla and the spicy notes, noticeably cumin and pepper, stay and blend so beautifully with the white and yellow floral notes. I love this combination.
Songes is long lasting and has some projection, but it’s not loud or intrusive.
    Just really beautiful.
I don’t know what kind of weather or occassion this would suit best, but I know that it’s wonderful.

In French songes means dreams. And this perfume is indeed a dream. A sweet dream from which you do not want to wake up, a dream that carries you close to the sun, to the light, and to the feeling of of happiness as part of you. I don’t like sweet perfumes, but this gem conquered me forever. And it’s so sweet!
Songes opens on my skin with vanilla and ylang ylang. Somewhere in the background there is a touch of jasmine. Vanilla seems to crush flowers and fill them with her fragrance. This is the feeling that this vanilla blend gives me. It is a powerful, loud, and sensational smell. It has a pleasant sweetness, familiar, not a sticky candy one. The smell of ylang ylang enveloped by the warmth of vanilla gives a fabulous result.
The perfume leads me to a 1800s woman, dressed in those days, holding an umbrella in her hand and walking in the streets of a big city. All the passers-by turned their heads to feel and enjoy the smell she left behind. This is Songes. The smell of a dream.

For some reason this seems vintage-y, but in same time not. It’s warm, sweet herbal and floral mixture. Such interesting dense floral sweetness that is complimented by vanilla. Sweet, but it’s not “regular” vanilla perfume. Almost gourmand flowers. There are some notes that remind me vintage herbal medicine cabinet (I guess for me there goes those light wood notes). Wearing this I feel like ~1900 medicine nurse or herbal chemistry scientist. It’s lovely day in summer full bloom. Window is wide open and outside are so wonderfully smelling honeysuckles, further away jasmines. Daydreaming atmosphere.

I recently sampled these in store, both the EDP and the EDT. Sniffing on paper the EDT seemed brighter and potentially more versatile so I decided to give this one a spray on my skin.
Gorgeous tropical flowers, blooming non-stop, lush and fresh — mostly frangipani and ylang. There’s a delicately soft undercurrent of spice.
However within about 20 minutes the powdery aspects dominate — powdered floral vanilla, somewhat flat on my skin. The finish does give the impression of soft French petals, but I was hoping for something more humid and tropical to linger.

According to the Annick Goutal website, the EDP & the EDT have the exact notes:
    >frangipani
    >tiare
    >jasmine sambac
    >ylang ylang absolute
    >bourbon vanilla absolute
    >benzoin
    >patchouli
    >cinnamon, cumin and black pepper
    On my skin:
EDP: It’s almost unbearable upon first spray…That scent hovers like a thick, syrupy cloud of sweetness that almost chokes one into crying ‘uncle’ out loud…The strength lasted for the first hour, and then dissipated into almost nothing come hour three–I can barely detect anything on my skin…
EDT: Much easier to wear…It’s got the fullness of the EDP, yet, the notes aren’t clinging and clanging as loudly as the EDP…
I was hoping to experience the cumin note, but no such luck; the black pepper note is barely there…
At this point, I’m on the fence about both the EDP and the EDT…I might either have to gift or swap these…We’ll see…
    *suspiro*

i have read so many good things about this one. i was very curiuos to test it even if i saw that it has notes that i am usually not a fan of (tiare, frangipani are usually no-success-headache notes for me, also i am not a fan of prominent jasmine and dont like too much vanilla). i was very curiuos about the animalic notes here. well, this is no surprise, it is definitely not for me, but i am happy to test it. it is too floral, too suntan-lotion, too similar to other tropical-summer-sun lotion scents. it has slight animalic base that makes it more interesting, but this is really more about white flowers than animalic. you must really be into heavy white florals to like this one. test if you like scents like Le Nuxe, YR Monoi Vahines and other tropical scents.

I blind-bought this mainly because it has my two favorite notes: tiare and frangipani. Also, I bought it for a very good discount.
I am so glad I did. I love this scent to pieces. And the staying power is excellent. I do recommend it.

Songes, i understand why it has so many fans 🙂 Such a nice white flower scent, guess its my favorite from Annick Goutal so far. At the beginning there i get a mix of all white flower, ylang ylang dominates but you get the creamy frangipani and vanilla from the heartnotes to the end and most joyful is the drydown here, really soft and comformting fragrance, no headache not overpowering, just lovely and great for warm weather too. already put it in my want list. Highly recommended for all tropical flower lovers out there, especially ylang ylang! Btw i tried the EdT

This fragrance on me is a lovely spicy floral…probably the nicest spicy floral I have tried. The spiciness of this fragrance gives is a sexy vibe…a sophisticated type of sexy nothing trashy about this gem of a fragrance). When I initially spray it, I get a lovely aromatic note. The aromatics here are not harsh though. They are tempered well by the floral notes that add a bit of sweetness. I know fragrantica does not list any spices in the notes, but they are definitely there. If you check the Annick Goutal website for this fragrance, they list several notes not mentioned by fragrantica including cinnamon, cumin, black pepper, patchouli, and benzoin. I would highly suggest this fragrance to anyone who enjoys spicy florals and a sophisticated yet sexy fragrance.

  37. :

This is beautiful, elegant, and feminine. It’s a simple and straight forward floral, with jasmine being most prominent on my skin. The ylang and other notes balance it perfectly, making it never cloying or headache inducing. Infact this is the first time I have truly enjoyed this type of perfume. An impeccably blended bouquet. Romantic indeed, the mildly sweet vanillic dry down is lovely! But the EdT fades much too quickly, and it may be too boring overall for me to invest in a bottle of the EdP.

Read raw umber’s comment below. I think it’s right on point.
    Two things to add:
    1. This has no tuberose, however if you like the more classical treatment of tuberose, you might like Songes.
    2. I’m aware the notes are all only flowers. But, I used to go to a yoga studio where they burned some kind of incense that smelled like this. There is definitely a slight frankincense aspect to this at the dry down.
While this is not the fragrance for me, I’m really glad that it is on the market. These types of fragrances used to be more prevalent 40 years ago, and I think it is great this is being commercialized, as this is a perspective rarely represented in the marketplace.
    Keep buying it Songes lovers!

    1) I am appalled at the indifference from many of the reviews on here! You people should be shipped to an island where only Britney Spears and Jennifer Aniston fragrances are available . Then we’ll see how you all REALLY feel.
    2) This fragrance is a gem. It is fairly priced.
    3) The longevity and strength is also above average!
    4) It is sweet, floral, vanilla with a slight spiced “edge” that could be musk or something ? It’s somewhat tropical but does not smell “like suntan lotion”.
    5) It is nuanced. It spritzes out and the notes dance around and pop in and out for a while. This gives it LIFE.
    6) I get 2 to 4 hours and then it retreats into s skin scent (and it DOES smell lovely on skin).
    7) It’s slightly sexy, slightly girly, slightly elegant. It’s got day/night written all over it.
    8) It has all the ear-marks of a “classic perfume” that’s been around since 1947– yet it’s only 12 years old!
    9) The vibe is all good here. Beautiful Vanilla soda with that “classy cosmetics counter” undercurrent . This has volume and comfort.
Really – I could not ask for more.
“Blind Buy” safe! Ask anyone that owns it already!

I dislike most compositions with tiare, but Songes is different. The frangipani and ylang are predominant and it actually smells like the tropics, not like suntan lotion. It’s creamy, sexy, sophisticated and more mature than most “beach” scents. It’s not even really a beach scent. It works in all seasons, day and night. After contemplating it for a few years, I FINALLY bought a full bottle 😀

I can get the idea of Lys Soleia but while Lys Soleia is green and spring Songes bring me to fall. It starts floral but it goes and fast to a darker side. I smell a note as cinnamon or cumin and also incense? These notes are fall. But I like Songes enough to put it on my wish list 🙂 Beautiful fragance. Sillage is enorm and longevity great. This is not an office scent.

In order to fully test this one’s ability to tropicalise (yeah, I meant it), I’m wearing it on a cold blustery Scottish April day. Outside. Watching my husband build a woodshed out of bits of stuff he found down the back of the sofa cushions. We don’t even have a sofa. Anyway, all I care about is when the coconut husks filled with mojitos and pina coladas are arriving, and who will fetch the lilo back from the middle of the pool for me to lie on. I would get it myself but I don’t want to wet my lei of beautiful tiare flowers.

This is probably one of the very few white floral fragrances that don’t give me a headache. And how! It’s probably due to the subtly sweet, lush, and animalic undertones underneath the pale bouquet, which gives this innocent/girlish scent some opulence and timelessness.
If Petite Cherie is the darling girl rambling through dewy pear orchards and rose briars, Songes is the sister who sits on a velvet cushion under the shades, all regal and gentle-hearted. Spoiled-sweet and very, very dreamy. Songes also lasts longer than Petite Cherie.

  45. :

Songes edt is a bomb of ylang and other heavy tropical florals with a sharp over-ripe indole facet. This stuff is such a powerhouse, you really only need one spray to share and distribute between your wrists, nape and sides of neck, and that will be *plenty*. Dries down to a powdery mineral sweetness, a little bit like sweet hay.
I really don’t pull too much vanilla from this one, even in the dry down which I’m actually pretty relieved about. The saving grace of Songes is that it smells extremely natural, and wears on skin like something that is made from natural ingredients.
Though it is quite potent, its strength does not pulse and radiate off the skin like the synthetic supernatural florals found in a Mugler, or dry down to the mercilessly tenacious Iso E Super of Elie Saab edt. If it developed in either of these more artificial directions, it would be either lackluster or sickening. Fortunately, it smells natural till the last trace vanishes.
Heady as it is, Songes allows me to breathe without suffocating, and my skin melds with the scent, instead of clashing or being masked. It’s bold but harmonious and absolutely not for everyone.
It stinks like the tropics stink: steamy, organic bordering on rotten, sweetly golden, shimmering, humid, thick, bountiful, and raw. Feminine, gorgeous and dirty-dirty. Very French.

At first sniff, I didn’t like it. It was too much of sharp old fashioned jasmin, but after about half an hour, I started to smell the rest of the notes and I so far love it. The dry down is shy, sweet and yammy. It’s perfectly blended and it’s a mood lifter for me.

There is a richness to Songes, a sturdiness to it that belies its name. As many have pointed out, songes means ‘dreams’. I do not experience this as a scent of the mere dreamworld–that would be an ethereal scent–but rather the body dreaming as well, the parts of consciousness that are less active while dreaming. There is depth and even earthiness. I’ve just noticed my left wrist smells different than my right. On the right I smell sandalwood warm and directly, while the left murmurs with ripe fruit and a table dressed in gardenias, maybe even plumerias. Who is at this table? It is a mature scent. Its richness would overwhelm young skin. There are young girls at the party, but perhaps they wear Petit Cherie. Songes may be a young woman’s scent or an older woman’s scent, but she is mature at heart. The scent dries down to creamy earthy woods, like some forest floor, one she walks in barefoot, in reverie.

Songes is one of the most heavenly white floral perfumes I’ve ever smelt. It’s beautiful. So pretty and soft and feminine. Such a lovely sweet powdery, dusky and delicate, fresh and yet warm, white floral scent. It is light and pretty, and yet it also has a maturity, a quiet confidence. It says ‘I know who I am. I am a beautiful woman, and I respect myself.’
It’s as gorgeous as is the beautiful bottle! I love Songes.

I have been making cautious skirmishes into the category of tropical white flower perfumes…those featuring ylang-ylang, jasmine, gardenia, frangipani, tuberose…an arena that had been strictly off limits to me in the past. Songes may be the best example of the genre that I have tried so far. While the first moments right after spraying may be a bit too heady (and I am not being at all hesitant with the atomizer–I’m using at least four or five sprays of the EDT), Songes quickly settles down and becomes a 12 hour cloud of sweet flowers, with a restrained amount of vanilla and touches of amber and woods. (Mostly sandalwood, I believe, since I get the occasional faint evocation of nag champa stick incense when I am wearing Songes. Still more rules broken: I usually find that specific incense note unwearable, but not when it is in Songes. It’s a mystery, I tell you!) The notes in this perfume are so perfectly balanced that the profusion of sweet and indolic flowers is never cloying or over-the-top and registers as perfectly elegant. Songes is a beautiful testament to Isabelle Doyen’s mastery of her art. You should try this if you haven’t yet.

This perfume is lovely! Heady white florals with lush tropical nuance. Lasts for hours and garners compliments every time. I wear it all year round. Quality of the EDP is first rate. Dries down to coconut and vanilla, then powdery goodness. It is a staple in my collection and I reach for it often

I blind buy this perfume even though I hate white florals because someone sold a preloved one cheaply. This perfume really changes my mind about white floral perfumes because I actually like this one! It has a powdery mature scent but I would not say that it is a grandma scent like Chanel No 5. If you dislike white florals, you may still like Songes.

I LOVE this scent ONLY when I spray it on first and THEN have a shower. I know, I know: I’m washing away the top ingredients and screwing around with the composition. For those who enjoy Songes as it’s supposed to be worn, what I’m doing is probably sacrilegious. However, if I spray it directly on myself, it’s too indolic, cloying; even the intended dry down is too much. When I spray and then shower, what’s left behind is a warm skin scent that lasts all day and into the evening.
This was a blind buy from a fellow Fragrantican. I’m wearing it in the colder months — it leaves a lovely floral/vanilla scent on scarves and sweaters.

Nothing special, disappointed. Maybe I need to test it again.

    for EDT.
i mostly get jasmine and vanilla.
the jasmine is very indolic (which jasmine is) for several minutes at the start, morphing from a civet-like note, to a sweet “Bobby Orange” (that’s “BO”, as in body odour, not Black orchid) note on the skin.
in the air, sweet tropical flowers to begin, followed by lots of jasmine on a creamy vanilla base. not getting woods, so assuming that is not in the EDT mix. oh hang on…after several more wearings, creamy sandalwood.
Songes is unexpectedly a very beautiful and uplifting blind buy.
    i love it.
