It’s okay. Nothing stunning, sadly. Rose and musk… to the calibre of, say, Milly La Forêt. Anything special? Nah. See elsewhere for a rose fragrance.

The ingredient list is not comprehensive as I saw in store that there are nutmeg as the opening note, rose and frankincense as the middle, and vetiver as the base note.
The spicy nutmeg scent is quite sharp at the opening when I tried it on my wrist. Rose came out later but it is not that kind of obvious rose-and-oud combination. The rose is deep and dark probably because of other notes. Besides, it is not a strong dark rich rose scent but you can detect a hint of rose in it. Vetiver as the base gave it a hue of woodiness. As for frankincense, I am not familiar with the scent so I can’t tell how its performance is.
Apart from the scent, the bottle design is beautiful with its dark purple juice and that’s why I picked it up to smell among the whole collection.

I get a soapy rose in mellow incense. Pleasant, but really shy and maybe suitable for people that are in love with lighter scents. I’m a heavy rose and incense lover, I love strong heavy scents.
Silage in weak to moderate amd longevity is moderate, approximately 4 hours on me.
Tested from an original sample from TdG.

I like this with its light Roses ginger opening but it quickly becomes a light incense with no silage or longevity. I wonder if the bottles that are turning up in the grey market were from a faulty batch? I literally have to douse myself to smell anything and I think the ISO O or whatever is creating an incense vibe is just giving me instant nose fatigue…..

My skin always amplifies sour notes, and the pretty smokey roses in the opening fairly quickly give way to a nice, clean vetiver.

I like rose perfumes, but I am rarely impressed.
I originally bought because of the name and bottle design, although I didn’t have high expectations for the perfume per se. I like many things about it: that it’s a truly unisex floral, that it interpretes rose in an interesting way, and that it delivers the image that it promises (looking at you, Putain Des Palaces).
It is very warm and dark — I like it for the winter. There is nothing summery about it — it makes me want to put on a cashmere MaxMara coat and some cashmere-lined gloves. It opens with ginger and nutmeg, and, in doing so, reminds me of SL’ Five O’Clock Au Gingembre. I really don’t think of it as incense, but perhaps I just don’t have much incense experience.
It becomes floral very quickly, of course – cue the name — and then starts reminding me of SL’a Fille de Berlin. At the same time, this rose is not front and center — it mostly serves as a delivery vehicle for other scents and emotions. It is a very intense rose — none of that clean rose scent you find in other perfumes; it reminds me of wild rose bushes that smell divine — it’s a darker, earthier scent cocooned in some herbal leafy gorgeousness.
I can’t quite figure out the drydown — some days, it’s soapy to me, and some days the perfume just disappears.
If you like it, try Rouge Nocturne, which is in many ways a complimentary fragrance.
    Average sillage.

I must admit the name attracted me more than anything…. Granted I am a rose addict and I collect all sorts of rose perfumes, but with such a name ,mnow can this be anything but a stunner ?
It isn’t a stunner, The only infernal characteristic here is the name and the color of the juice, which is an incredibly deep and dramatic purple. Why purple ? No reason for it, it could have been red or pink since it is suppose to have rose as a central theme. While it looks lovely in the bottle, it doesn’t particularly excite me to put extra chemicals on my skin.
The bottle is simplistic and elegant, with a big silver lid.
The scent is beautiful, but according to my expectations it doesn’t live up to the hype created by such a name. It’s a peppery clean rose in the beginning, that slowly goes into the insense and vetiver part. The rose almost disappears leaving only a clean pepper , vetiver and delicate insense on my skin after a while. The silage is average to soft, the lasting power 2-4 hours on my skin .
It is fairly unique and rather unisex as it lacks sugar, fruits, and all vanilla which usually make a scent more feminine . Dry , natural smelling, herbal, beautiful.
I definitely enjoy it and I am more than happy to wear it, especially since I got it in a lovely swap with a lovely member here, but I cannot help and think it could have been so much more than it is with such a name.

From the reviews it sounded like being a too sharp, too dry and too mature perfume for some Cruella, which it is not! – at all! I would call it a yummy smoky unisex rose.
It reminds me just a bit of Paestum Rose, also a good perfume which was somehow too overwhelming for me, with a note that made the whole experience quite difficult. Here, the composition is much simpler, which I love. I really love non-complex compositions, with just a few main players, like here: rose, incense and vetiver. Just three of them, but right to the point. Maybe there are also some spices, but just to frame and highlight the main notes.
Infernal Rose smells modern, sweet, fresh, slightly masculine, the texture is rather sheer. It’s totally wearable in warmer climates. Nice sillage, moderate longevity. Overall very very nice. Inoffensive, but with its own character. Now I want to test more Terry de Gunzburgs.
I’m not a sucker for pretty bottles, but this one is quite good looking, heavy thick glass and shiny metal stopper + wonderful colors of the juice and the box. Thumbs up!

1st off, this: “A smoky and spicy oriental eau de parfum with notes of NUTMEG from Indonesia, ROSE INCENSE from Somalia, and Vetiver from Haiti.” I find Barney’s descriptions better & the nutmeg is news, need to add it to the pyramid.
Anyway this scent has proven that what Terry de Gunzburg excels at are spiced, woody, dry aromatic roses. Really beautiful!
The openings (of this & her Oud) are a bit shocking at first; they’re so different from anything else I’ve tried. As Rose Infernale dries down, the incense gets progressively cleaner & soapier, while the woody facets get drier. (For the record, I do not get the heavy peppery sneeziness I usually get from vetiver here, this is a new breed to me! It smells more dry & ‘hollow,’ the way I’d expect driftwood to smell.)
I’m still trying to figure out what to make of it. It’s such a different beast to me that my nose needs to get to know this type of scent more before I pass judgement. One thing’s for sure: the bottle & juice color are GORGEOUS! <3
    (+1 to flowers-in-the-springtime & nexangelus’ reviews!)

An haute french composition influenced by a middle eastern style. Starts with sharp citrus and black pepper and powdery iris (maybe some heliotrope?) then a rose starts to peek through. In its heart it reminds me of a deeper, rounder, richer Costes 1 designed as a spicy incense rose ambergris attar–it has a roundness and a luminescence like that. Wafts come and go from just one spritz on my arm. This scent is enveloping and emphatic without being loud or bombastic, and very natural smelling. Where I am used to iso-e I don’t get it–if its there it’s muted. Instead I inhale beautiful powdery florals with a round blond wood rose slowly and artfully emerging. The greenness of the woods comes later. In the heart green woods are obvious up close but sillage is gorgeous rose and incense. Dries down to a spicy musky wood. Evening scent. Love this.

The only way I can describe this is to imageine Stevie Nicks in 1976, just finishing up a concert with Fleetwood Mac. It is a balmy summer night and her rose oil mixes with the incense smoke caught in her shawl and the heavy scent of her sweat.

This perfumes opens with a strange, sharp and grassy accord which speedily settles into a sweet, delicate, beautiful, woody, rose scent. The Bulgarian Rose is dominant here and is simply stunning.
The fragrance is fairly linear throughout, I find that like the perfume, the projection is also quiet, but longevity on me is pretty good, 7 hours and still smelling gorgeous.
This is top draw, French chic in a bottle. Very elegant and can be worn any time and anywhere.
The woman who wears this perfume doesn’t have to try too hard, is quintessentially chic and basically has nothing to prove.
Totally feminine in my opinion, full bottle worthy and absolutely gorgeous.

Being a lover of roses, I really wanted to like this fragrance. The name was actually what got me interested initially. Now, because I love roses, it also means I’m very critical when it comes to fragrances with it as a main feature, so to speak. I look for true roses, not the ones that turn soapy or pungent, and for that reason my luck has been far and few in between in my quest. This fragrance, unfortunately, is another miss for me. I can’t smell the rose at all. It actually starts out spicy but then turns pungent with a bit of incense scent within the first fifteen seconds. I can deal with incense, if that’s how the fragrance continued to smell, except in this case it soon starts to turn into a scent that reminds me of something out of the wardrobe of an octogenarian. Now, it doesn’t anywhere near as bad as Creed’s Fleur de The Rose Bulgare, but the pungency is pretty similar (good thing this one has low longevity).

This is the most beautiful incensey rose i’ve ever came across. It opens indeed very green and uninviting but it lasts only couple of minutes. Dry down is really amazing, deep, dark and mysterious. Sillage and lasting power are both moderate.

this starts off with a spicy incense that is somewhat green, i guess that’s from the vetiver. i smell florals in this, but not really rose. the florals are peppery and soapy. it gets *very* soapy on me unfortunately, and kind of green. i was hoping more for incense and rose, and this is not it, at least on me. i don’t know if it’s my skin chemistry, but i am getting a headache from this. it just doesn’t work for me at all, sadly. i was so excited by an incense/rose scent too.

Mmmm, I get an extremely spicy ginger note on spraying. Then the roses and incense, then the spice (vetiver?) again. This is defininely unisex. The floral notes are under the others, so a man would carry this off well. I am not sure about its strength though. More floral would have, wait when I move my arm I can smell the roses. Oooh, this is a surprising one. The scent is spicy near the skin with a big floral trail. I am confused. In a good way.
This is definitely one that you spray then have to be careful not to overspray, because all the notes are there, you just need some air, no need to be sniffing right at your skin. I am puzzled indeed, first perfume to have me guessing a bit. I like this….mysterious?

It’s not a normal rose perfume. this one has a scent of pure essential rose oil that reminding vegetable, spicy, green, sour. that’s the reason I like it even I don’t like incense.

Infernal it is, and not in a very good way unfortunately. If you are looking for the rose, it’s very well hidden… The color of my manufacturer sample is not as beautiful as on the picture, it’s more greyish. Don’t buy it just for the stylish presentation and based on expectations, try it first. Such a missed opportunity for TdG to create a stunning rose fragrance!

This is not a blind buy purchase. I tried this alongside the other new release, Rouge Nocturne. The latter is a beautiful patchouli rose on my skin. Rose Infernale has an unmistakable incense “civet” note that unfortunately turns “funky skunky” on me, much like the original Shalimar. I can imagine that it would smell amazing on the right person, but sadly, not me.

Not a rose fan per se, but upon trying a sample, I thought this was real nice. Not boring, , with some punch, a hint of spiciness, some intensity..still feminine, a bit mysterious, I think this is a great take on Rose..Rouge Nocturne is great also, they have a different vibe..Infernale is higher in colors. A bit hard to define, but interesting!!

I was beguiled by the name, notes and the lovely purple juice in the bottle – however the name is misleading as I detect virtually no rose. Maybe its just my skin chemistry but on me this opens as a combination of cheap soap and men’s cologne, which then dies down to just cheap floral soap. No smoky incense, no rose. Hopefully I have more luck with Rouge Nocturne. Certainly one of the more disappointing rose fragrances I’ve tried, but only my opinion obviously. Maybe I should have opted for the Rouge Nocturne.

Absolutely lovely. It starts with an intensely dark rose period, in an hour or so goes briefly to a very clean rose, and then to a mingled incense and roses period. I put it on four hours or so before going to bed, so I don’t know how long that lasts, though.
    Definitely a keeper.

I tried this fragrance at Barneys today. I really, really like it. Outside of the lovely purple color of the EDP fragrance, the nutmeg/vetiver mixed with Rose incense makes it so lovely. It gives it a spicy, somewhat cool (vetiver) soft rose scent.
It is wonderful. For example, Marni has rose and woody notes, but the patchouli note, mixed with pepper, gives the rose a softness. You can detect rose, but the combination of the other notes breaks the rose and enhances it to something fresh, and sexy.
The Rose Infernale is SEXY, somewhat warm….something that you could wear in the day, but would be very seductive at night – like a wild cat…looking to be tamed.
I just love the warmth of the rose mixed with the incense. Instead of wearing Oud, or strong incense/wood fragrances, you can wear this one and still have the incense/wood feeling, but the floral takes off the edge. I think this scent is feminine, but I feel a man could wear it. If this fragrance was layered with Tom Ford’s Oud Wood – the combination would make this extremely seductive and would be exciting for both a man and a woman to wear.
