Description

The Etro Etra perfume is a fragrance for women (to emphasize their strength) and for men (to reveal a female side of their character). An intensive start of strong rosewood note presents the intensiveness of this fragrance; spices, cedar and geranium represents its masculine side, and sandalwood, musk and vanilla sooths the first impression with its calming accords. Coriander, cardamom and rose wood are at the top. Jasmine, rose, geranium, red pepper, cedar and sandal form the heart. The base is composed of musk and vanilla. It was created in 1999.

Warm, rosy, spicy geranium. Bit of cardamom and sandalwood in the background. Seems like a winter version of Eau du Cloitre by Le Couvent des Minimes. Sillage (which has citrus, whereas Etra does not). Wears closely and longevity is abysmal, sadly. I really liked this one, but it would have to be very cheap for me to buy it, as I’d have to reapply every 2 hours. Tested dabbed.

    This is my second review
Soon after buying etra etro I decided to sell or swap it.don’t know why.I just thought I won’t wear it but I have a rule that before deciding to swap a perfume,I have to wear it for three days and then decide.I’m proud of myself for such a brilliant rule, giving etra away could be one of my biggest mistakes
I like spicy scents but when spices are very dry, peppery and strong they bother me.I sneeze a lot and feel dryness in my throat.etra etro has a loud and spicy opening which borders on annoying me.lots of pepper and coriander and other spices and some woody notes which give it a dry touch.it’s first 30mins smells intresting and I could like it if it didn’t tickle my nose and make me thirsty but it’s charming drydown deserves waiting.
boy it has a heavenly drydown! original and memorable.it has a caramelized sweetness in a milky woody base which is so delicious without being a gourmand, spicy but also smooth and subtle thanks to vanilla which rounds sharp edges.I can smell something like a tea note in it which makes it comforting and unique.not plant of tea or green tea,it’s like drinking a cup of black tea(chai),what people drink in my country daily and smells very soothing.there’s a soft whisper of rose and other florals mingling with spicy, sweet, milky deliciousness.it make me imagine a weekend sitting with my family watching movies, drinking tea and eating home made cookies.very comforting, nostalgic and yummy.I don’t have anything similar in my collection and now I appreciate owning it alot. It’s not even as weak as my first experiences.I have to make sure not to overspray and not to smell where I’ve applied it closely in first minutes.then I can smell it for at least five good hours.for me it’s wearable year round except too hot days and it would be nice for night wear too.
Highly recommended for women and men who want to experience a different kind of yummy scents

Starts out fresh & spicy, then turns sweet, milky, and floral-woody; quite an effortless & happy-go-lucky scent!

Why are Etro fragrances mostly unpopular remains a mystery to me. Their Etroism deserves all the love the Guerlinade brings the Guerlains. Their fragrances never fail to soothe and fascinate me with their soft creamy essence, quiеt elegance, high materials quality and conservative chic.
This is a spicy rosy marvel celebrating a lush sandalwood note. Not one of my favourite Etro releases, but excellent nonetheless.

If we assume that perfumes can be categorized as mild or spicy, smooth or rough, humble or bold, then Etra by Etro is somewhere in between in each case. So contradictory, yet totally balanced and refined. The rich, spicy-herbal opening, despite very distinct notes of cardamom and coriander, (luckily) does not smell of a hot, oriental kitchen at all. On the contrary, it reminds me of an idyllic meadow in mid-April. Pure aromatherapy! Etra is as shiny and energizing as the first sunbeams after a never-ending winter, reflected in the surface of a thawing lake. It is as lucid as a dewdrop, as comforting as a glass of hot milk with honey. At first it intrugues (or maybe some would rather say: irritates) with a blast of freshly ground pepper and a gush of herbal juices, but very quickly, maybe even much too quickly, calms down, softens, sweetens in a creamy-rosy way.
The atmosphere around Etra kind of reminds me of Like This by EldO, but without the autumn melancholy. Etra could be Tilda’s blond sister, just as hypnotizing and out of this world. Tilda, however, arrives at the dusk and Etra – at the dawn of summer. Tilda is a red-haired celtic fairy, Etra – a light and gentle elf. Very charming, but I wouldn’t mind if it were a little less… ethereal.

Today I tried it for the first time and bought a 100ml bottle in an amazing discount(I paid only 50$ for an unsealed bottle!)
If I want to describe it in a sentence I’d say etro etra is a unisex spicy and sweet woody scent
It opens very spicy like a bomb of spices.spices last till the end but become much tamer as it dries down.woody notes aren’t rough or too much masculine.they’re subtle and sweet and well blended with warm spices and musky vanilla
I prefer it for mild weather, mostly fall
It dries down to such a warm, sweet, subtle and deliciously spicy scent that I can’t stop smelling myself
The only downside is about Longevity and projection.it opens loud and seems to be pretty strong and potent but sillage reduces as it dries down.after less than an hour I can barely smell it on myself even if I stick my nose to my skin.I don’t think Longevity would improve on clothes because it doesn’t stay on paper strip more than an hour too(albeit it’s there for two more hours but sooo weak that it’s very difficult to detect it)
I’m still glad to have it for such a bargain and I think it’s also great for layering.it can add a dash of sexy sweet spicy woody, vanilla base to other fragrances and turn a plain gourmand to something interesting
    ❤❤❤❤

Similar to “Jacomo #08” in terms of spice and sweetness, but definitely better quality. I get a smooth, polished rosewood and sandal, some soapy bitterness from the cardamom and a pinch of pepper, all softened by a mellow vanilla. There are cinnamon nuances here even though it’s not listed, and I’m reminded of chai tea somewhat, but also dill and baby gripe water.
It’s a gentle, cuddly scent, perhaps more feminine leaning. Easy to wear and quite sheer.

Very much like fennel, and perhaps some other spices. A pleasant smell, but I wouldn’t want to wear it on myself. In addition, a bit too weak.

There are definitely similarities with Lubin Black Jade but this much weaker. I love cardamom so its hard for me to not like it. The chilli is present but very low key. I can detect lots of wood. If someone wants spicey fragrance for everyday wear then this fits the bill. Nice but its too weak for me. A constant skin scent and only lasts a few hours if that.

Perhaps I’m getting lucky, I think! Or so I thought. When I first sampled this a while back. I envisioned another fragrance that I believe I could love and wear often and for quite some time. I have to expand my wardrobe, especially for the spring & summertime AND I must find a wonderful AFFORDABLE fragrance! Etro Etra is different, unique, unusual but IMHO, really wearable, pleasant and nice!
I thoroughly enjoy the opening notes of this scent! Spritzed some on my husband and he liked it a lot, too! It’s hard for me to believe that the opening notes are predominantly rosewood but that’s what everyone cites and that is what the Etro website states. So, I guess the opening is floral and wood but extremely smooth, well-balanced, no harshness here.
Also, at its opening, I detected citrus and bright, slightly fruity notes…bergamot perhaps. Then the rosewood emerged, which was quickly followed by mid-notes of spicy florals… geranium, jasmine (which I love when NOT a soliflore), ROSE…really nice. Shortly, all of the aforementioned notes beautifully balanced with cedar, more “woods,” vanilla and musk.
Complex yet soothing. Complex yet sedate. This is a very nice, pleasing, wearable niche fragrance.
After trying Etro Etra a few times, the middle notes seemed to change on me. Yes, one time the fragrance morphed into a scent with floral mid-note…most times, the scent remained spicy and woody on me…a bit smoky. The heart of this fragrance is definitely a warm spicy floral.
Longevity is pretty good and silage is okay…could be a bit stronger for my tastes…but all is good!
Purchased a full bottle! Etro Etra is definitely a keeper!
And in the end, I passed this on to my husband. I still LOVE the fragrance and I DO wear it from time-to-time. However the more “masculine” side of this potion seems to prevail when I wear it. I like it more on my husband than I do on me.
Still a great fragrance for the price!

I bought this by mistake, thinking I was ordering the Heliotrope. It was going to be sent back, but I sprayed it, wandered around my house, did some laundry, made cookies, finally hugged my husband for no reason and he double sniffed me. He said “Moe, you smell really good!”. I’m not usually interested in the notes of this perfume, but I have to say I’ve gotten lots of compliments when I wore it.
This perfume smells so refined, the notes blend so perfectly it’s like a great melody of scents. I don’t like geranium, but it doesn’t overwhelm, just compliments. The cedar, rosewood and sandalwood are the front runners in the opening, with a twitch of the pepper, I don’t smell musk in this, so don’t be put off by this, the same with the Rose, not a big player in this.
This could easily be in my top 10, good anytime of year, night or day. Versatile and classy.

Very nice woody spicy unisex fragrance! Very soft and lovely in the drydown. Opens with a burst of spices (cardamom, pepper and coriander) and then settles down to a beautiful quiet musky/vanilla scent that I personally find a bit more feminine. Once again, I nicely done fragrance by Etro!
    Sillage: Moderate
    Longevity: 5-6 hours

Note – This is not so much a standalone review for Etra, but more of a lengthy discussion of Etra as a possible dupe for the discontinued Le Feu d’Issey.
The onsets are surprisingly very similar. If you sprayed Etra on my skin and didn’t tell me what it was, I would actually guess it’s Le Feu. Only because I’m smelling them next to each other can I pick up on the differences much more closely than I would if I were smelling them on separate occasions. Coriander, sandalwood, musk, coconut, vanilla, and woodsy notes are perceptible in both. Le Feu is actually slightly more dry and herbal than Etra, which has a smooth balsamic base. The onset of Etra is slightly more accessible and mainstream, since a lot of the more challenging milky/smoky/anisic notes of Le Feu are absent in Etra. The red pepper note at the onset of Etra is perfectly done, since it provides a lovely contrast to the sweet, ambery, woodsiness that could have been a little too rich on its own.
The main differences in these fragrances occur during the mid-phase and the drydown. Le Feu features the milky floral notes which are mostly absent in Etra. Etra’s drydown is more woodsy-balsamic, whereas Le Feu becomes its crazy milky-floral-spicy self. Le Feu is the sharper of the two fragrances, and Etra is a little more sweet. When I think of the drydown of Le Feu, I typically interpret it as dynamic, magnetic, and provocative whereas the drydown of Etra is a little more rich and dulcet. It is also worth mentioning that Etra has softer sillage than Le Feu.
Le Feu is one of my all-time favorites, and possibly one of the most artistic fragrances I have ever smelled. I am very happy to say that Etra is a decent substitute. If you’re very, very familiar with Le Feu and you have a specific love for it, you might be disappointed that Etra is not a perfect dupe and does not contain the milky-floral notes of Le Feu. But if you’re looking to smell in the wheelhouse of Le Feu and don’t feel like paying hundreds of dollars on eBay, then Etra is a fantastic option. It would also work perfectly if you like the vibe of Le Feu but find it a little too avant garde or difficult to wear. All in all, I’m glad that Etra exists as a legitimate option for Le Feu lovers.

A great unisex. Soft and skinclose with some spicy notes. A lot of musk and vanilla in base. Great!
Härlig unisex. Mjuk och hudnära med en härlig dos kryddor. Rejält med musk och vanilj i basen. Perfekt!

“Etra” is a very nice woody spicy fragrance perfectly fit for both sexes.
It opened harsh with loads of pepper and paprika mostly, but soon settled to a very nice, almost clean spicy rosewood dominated fragrance. I got almost none of the flowers, but I cannot complain as the composition was very nice nevertheless.
The staying power for Etro fragrance is more than desired – easy 7 hours and more as a skin scent. Worth a try for those seeking a clean&spicy scent with a medium silage.

Not for everybody as it may come rather sharp but I LOVE it. On me it has a sophisticated aniseed like quality which I find refreshing and intriguing. Two French words come to mind : petillant & impertinent.

  19. :

Spicy vanilla, cardamom and pepper from the first spritz. It actually made me sneeze. In a matter of five minutes it tones down to a lovely, relaxing ethereal cardamom and vanilla note. My nose doesn’t detect anything else, probably because the cardamom is a little sharp. It is a pleasant fragrance, light and feminine, elegant. I have a full bottle of this, but I don’t think I’ll use it very often, it is like a distant friend you occasionally would like to hear from, but you just have better fragrances to play with in between visits.

I would swear there is incense in it. It smells so spicy, although the whole scent has a certain lightness about it.Still, so much incense is like a wet ashtray to me, church ambiance, not for me.

  21. :

It does remind me Dolce Vita, and the Dzongkha also… It’s a good fragrance, dry woody and a hint of spicy but ETRO has better ones)

  22. :

ahm, to me it does remind a LOT le feu and NOT at all dolce vita. its like two oppsoite smells. I love how it smells cos I love le feu, it was the reason why I bought it at first palce. the lasting power I would say is half hour… sadly.

  23. :

    5 out of 5

Etra-Etro is a very nice scent. I will agree that it does remind me of Feu d’Issey and it also kind of reminds of La Dolce Vita by Dior, but I would say the Dior fragrance is a little better. This can be worn to work, or for dinner. You can dress it up or make it sexy. I really like it.

To me smells like sparkling vine! Smells like youth, when you are happy and constantly in love :)) Everybody says it is my perfume even though I can’t smell anything after an hour on me. Recommended!

Overall i would say that Etro is a lovely perfume although it doesn’t work so well with my chemistry. Though to be fair i just recently bought it and since it s summer, its woody notes might not shine through in the heat. The highlight of the scent is the sensual rosewood one immediately detects which is really attractive and powdery and reminds me of older refined perfumes. The drydown, however, proves to be a bit of a dissapointment for me as the mix of the different woody smells distorts the character of the beautiful rosewood. In addition, the vanilla is a nuisance to me as it hinders the other woody smells. However, i’m not going to just ditch this perfume yet, i will wait and see if those woody notes will come to the surface once it’ s winter. I hope they will!

  26. :

    4 out of 5

Etra Etro starts with an old-book clean, nice and peculiar smell, with cinnamon spiceness; I love the unusual opening a lot. However, from then on, Etra Etro just gets flatter and flatter, like slightly warmed up/stale cinnamon water with a pinch of creamy spiciness. It is mild, and somehow reminds me of the Beautiful Mind Series’ Intelligence&Fantasy, however, Etra Etro is quite soulless, somewhat smell like as if it was a typical cinnamon perfume being washed off on me.
It gets creamier and milder (in a mild, vanilla-y way), maybe it’s the milk smell most people are talking about here? It doesn’t smell that much similar to milk to me since I’m a vegan, and normally milk has a certain buttery creamy ‘alive’ warmth in it, but the creaminess here in Etra Etro is slightly ‘animal’-derived-smelling to me. It gets seemingly nicer, but still too quite and so a stale skin scent; worse, it is just 2.5 hours after application.
Not sure is it just the nature of Etra Etro, or has the perfume had some premature ending. I simply cannot smell much of Etra Etro after 3 hours, unless I sniff really really hard, then I would have a washed-off skin-scent-strength of a nice vanilla-y white chocolate scent.
On a guy, Etra Etro actually smells better with more spiciness, and somewhat has a mild personality.
I bought Etra Etro to replace Hugo Boss Sunset (because I don’t like the mid stage of it, but loves the opening and dry down, and my bf loves it), however, Etra Etro is a seemingly nice and polite replacement (for both Sunset, and Orange for Men by Hugo Boss), but the more I wear it, the more I craving for something big, edgy and with some strong personality, despite wether I like it or not.
Etra Etro is cheaper than most niches, I don’t have anything against it, but I wouldn’t recommend anyone to buy it, since it is just a hmmm scent, with minimalist strength, and non of the stages of this perfume is intriguing enough. Etra Etro doesn’t shine, but would be a suitable and equally boring scent for a boring office.

  27. :

    3 out of 5

For a long time I really wanted to get this one unsniffed. Comparisons to the mythical now Le Feu were making my apetite for this perfume grow. BEcause Etro perfumes are not available where I live, I had to wait a while to get a sample. Am I disappointed? No. Would I like to have a full bottle? Unfortunately, no again.
Etra actually reminds me very much of a newer Jacomo Art Collection #8. It features the same, spicy notes, here a bit stronger, minus the tea note very strong in #8. And it seems like a fragrance difficult to ‘touch’. It lackcs a bit of the intensity. I agree with mymlan that says that is is somehow empty. You are waiting for it, and it never arrives at its destination. Etra also remains quite dry throughout the time it spent on my skin, and I wished for more vanilla and jasmine and musk instead of the huge dose of coriander, cardamon and woody notes.
Nice as is is, I’d still pick #8 over it, just because it’s a tad more compelx and lasts longer.

  28. :

    5 out of 5

This is lovely woody fragrance indeed. I really like it. Somehow it gives me an impression of a forest after the rain or a forest in early mornings when the ground is wet and the air is moist.
It might not be the most complex fragrance but I enjoy it very much..it brings me memories..
I think this one is worth a try.
And I will possibly purchase a bottle of this in the future.

  29. :

    3 out of 5

Etra is what I would consider to be a very ‘intellectual’ fragrance. By that I mean it is mentally puzzling but emotionally simple.
Incredibly hetrogenous, Etra seems to encompass most genres of perfumery – spicy coriander, sour rosewood, sweet rose & jasmine, peppery paprika & cedar and an overall watery, aquatic feel to it (perhaps the milkiness others have mentioned?).
The base is mostly musky – a disturbing sweet female body odour underlined with a barely there stale, damp nuance. Considering the otherwise overwhelmingly masculine spiciness this must be the effect of my own skin chemistry blending with Etra in an unwholeomse way.
Etra keeps me guessing and pondering but it does not warm the cockles of my heart.

  30. :

    5 out of 5

Etro ETRA apparently doesn’t agree with my skin chemistry. After opening with a slightly sour rosewoodiness which does become less sour over time, ETRA just smells like overly strong, synthetic sandalwood to me and reminds me a lot of a couple of other sandalwood-heavy fragrances I’ve recently tried. I wish that the listed array of beautiful notes–some of which I usually love, including geranium, cardamom, rose–would present themselves to my nose, but sadly they do not. Désolée.

  31. :

    5 out of 5

A milky woody oriental. It’s natural, unique, dynamic, and technically sound. I think of this one as for aficionados who enjoy such a fragrance. Because it’s a little dry and not very sweet, it doesn’t fit into the usual social occasions. That is, it doesn’t really fit the office or school, club, or romantic scenes especially well.

  32. :

    5 out of 5

This is really a beautiful scent and definitely a head turner as it opens, but the staying power sucks and after you wear it for awhile and get to the base or heart of the scent it just gets kind of boring. That sort of mystery that comes with the spicy oriental scent is lost in its base.

  33. :

    3 out of 5

These Etro frags seem to have a strong following, but based on my first, and to date, only exposure to the line–Etra Etro, I’m not “gittin” it.
Maybe it’s the unisex thing. That often doesn’t work for me. All I can say is that one time out with this one was one time too many.

  34. :

    4 out of 5

I love LE FEU and aswell Poivre Piquant (which are quite similar) – so there is no other way but to love this, too.
It is refined, classy but at the same time uncomplicated parfum to wear without offending anyone.
My only reason not to buy it so far is: it is quite costly and at the same time no staying power at all. up to 2 hrs(max.) – I would expect more for that price.

  35. :

    4 out of 5

This is indeed similar to Le Feau d’Issey, but lighter and more woody, even lightly smoky. I like it better actually. It didn’t sour on me. The florals are light, pleasantly sharp and clean smelling. The spices are not overwhelming, but blend nicely with the whole composition. I didn’t notice any vanilla, but rather cedar and musk toward the end of this fairly long-lasting fragrance. This is an exceptional light fragrance that would be ideal for office wear on either a man or a woman.

  36. :

    5 out of 5

I have never tried Le Feu, so I can’t compare.
The scent itself seems quite light, but it’s not that airy at all. Beginning is subtle sweet/sour florals with rosewood and lots of cardamom. I think if I could compare to Burberry’s The Beat (only the cardamom theme…)
Later it develops into geranium and pepper duet and it’s quite enjoyable, however I think I need more originality.
For office use I think it’s very nice.

  37. :

    4 out of 5

I retested it today – was going through some samples and found Etra.
If Le Feu was way too strong for me, then Etra is just the thing. It is fresh in the opening, cardamom is very much there…somehow there is a resemblance to a fresh scent of a mixed forest. Then the mystery begins. I am not sure, but it seems like patchouli in there – wet, moist earth under the cover of fallen leaves.
    It`s a perfume for Galadriel.

  38. :

    3 out of 5

M-m! I love it. It’s a Scent from the capital letter. Nice spices and wood and a bit sweetness on the background. Light, balanced, and quite enough lasting. I’m sure I’ll by another bottle after mine ends.

  39. :

    5 out of 5

I havent tried Le Feu d’Issey but I would love to 🙂
I find similarities between ETRO Etra & L’Artisan Parfumeur Poivre Piquant. To me they have in common the milkiness and spices and especially black pepper. The distinct difference opens up on base notes as there I feel quite a lot of vetiver which is non existing in Etra. I love both fragrance but L’Artisan probably a little bit more 🙂

  40. :

    4 out of 5

This is the best of all the ETRO- fragrances (according to my opinion).
Indeed, there is a resemblance to the sadly discontinued Le Feu D’Issey, but the fragrance is not that intense. A friend of mine wears it – and gets a lot of compliments for it. It is very pleasant, equal to any occasion and at the same time exclusive, because it is not available everywhere and no common high-street fragrance.

This is a little “sister”, the lighter version of Issey Myiake “Le Feu d’Issey” for my nose. I can smell bitter sweet milky fruits and tobacco smoke in the bottle, but not so intensivelly as in Le Feu d’Issey.
Very nice fragrance for casual, office wear. Worth trying!
