Description

This woodsy-flavored men’s perfume was introduced in 1999. It was designed by Maurice Roucel. In the top notes there is an intoxicating beginning with sweet fresh bergamot and gentle balsamic notes of lavender. Pure and intense jasmine pulses with the heart of perfume along with gentle grassy and fresh notes of lily-of-the-valley and the touch of sensual musk.
The base is soft, creamy and warm together with vanilla, sandal, amber and the gourmand tone of coffee. The designers of the bottle are Franzrudolf Lehnert and Michael Fõrster. The perfume is available in the amount of 50 and 100 ml edt.

Soft gourmand fragrance. I like it, not a love. Performance is poor, and keeps me from loving this one. If your really not a gourmand fan, but would like to try something light this is it.

Very soft.very simple.very designish style.I feel quality is not as good as many designers.slight sweetness with a twist of coffee note.
Have a bottle.not using it.if you gonna buy some frags try it for yourself,if you liked that, then buy it and don’t pay attention to others review.you can always find many many positive reviews below any fragrances in Fragrantica.Don’t get me wrong.those reviews are their writers experience wich is something almost personal.
Other problem is that the new batch No/codes of this and other simillar products that can not be found anywhere.Seems many discontinued products turned back to production in some companies in India,China and Middle-East But parent company doesn’t react to such things and doesn’t accept this fact.such companies are producting discontinued ones under main parent companies license without any quality control and with unknown batch codes.many of their products are watered down copy of the vintage ones.Rochas Man is one of them.Escada Sentiment Pour Homme,Halston Z-14,Halston Z1-12,Banana Republic Black walnut,Smith & Wesson and many other discontinued ones.So be careful.Inter Parfums and IFF are among the worst of them.

I love the scent. Highly addictive. This is a blind buy and no regrets. Coffee in a bottle and lavender cuts through and tames the sweetness a little bit in a nice way.
Only issue with interparfums version is the performance. 3-4 hrs max. But at its price I spray after 4hrs. Good buy

I tried this again today and scored myself a sample. Looking at the notes I just wouldn’t think they’d work together but they do!
I’m not so keen on the opening (not really sure what it is though) but once it settles a bit rather than coffee I smell vanilla and cream. Perhaps a sweetened vanilla scented ‘creme chantilly’ that has been squirted onto a very mild capuccino or a café Liegeois. Sometimes I get a vague raspberry note too as well as the kind of scent you get in a patisserie in France.
Tasty but not cloying. Encore, s’il vous plait.

I just love the smell of this perfume. After spraying it on hand you can sniff transformation of that gorgeous smell from the beginning. Bottle also looks cool.

Ultimate male gourmand! The lavender smooths out the rough edges of the cappuccino/vanilla. Projection isn’t overwhelming but that helps make this an office fragrance for a bold/confident man. May need to reapply during a day but that’s what small decants are for! Price makes it a must have for a fan of gourmand. Amazing, layered, creamy, delicious scent!

On me this stuff isn’t just good.. It’s great. Creamy vanilla, kinda floral/powdery but not so much bees attack my diaper. A good balance. Dry down is mellow and smooth. Sweet but not syup. Can’t really knock it at all. CK Eternity Now reminds me of it but I like Rochas dry down better. No one ever knows what it is.. and that’s what I want.

There is a a bit too much lavender in the opening then I would like and I believe this overpowers the nice coffee/cappuccino. It is still a very pleasant scent though.
Initially, sillage is good but settles down to a skin scent quickly. Longevity is not bad though as I can smell it on my clothes hours after applying. The same can’t be said for my skin though unfortunately.
It is still a great gourmand fragrance at a reasonable price. It will always have a place in my collection.

Layer Rochas Man and Givenchy Play Intense. It will tone down the sweetness of Rochas Man with strong coffe scent from Givenchy Play Intense. Tiramisu!!!

This smells really good for its price point. A nice sweet coffee with smooth vanilla and lavender. Its a strong smell that will cut through the cold air, and gives you the warmth you associate with coffee-gourmands. The performance is solid with 7 hrs on my skin and a decent projection cloud. I tend to like fresh sweeter scents but this was a solid purchase for the colder months and as I grow older.

Sweet of syrup and vanilla creamy.
I just ordered Rochas Man after reading a ton of reviews here in Fragrantica and decision to get it. The first spray I can get a feeling of sweet raspberry syrup, so sharp, dense and fresh with lavender blending. By honestly I can’t feeling so much about cappuccino note in it because this not a kind of dark coffee as espresso , but light smooth and creamy like milky coffee. The vanilla note is dominant as background from open to dry down and reminded me of JPG Le Male and Ultra Male (but change the pear note to raspberry), yes it similar to Ultra Male but longevity is weaker.
Scent: 7/10 (sweet, sexiness but synthetic)
Silage: 6.5/10 (project good only 1-2 hours only)
Longevity: 6/10 ( about 4hrs in cool weather/5-6hrs in hot summer)
After 3 times of testing this I find that Rochas Man project and longer lasting in the summer atmosphere (+1-2hrs of project & longevity) anyway it too sweet and too dense, and becoming lighter and sharp in colder day but weaker performance I get. If you love Ultra Male you will love this.

In some way the dry down of Rochas Man reminds me a little bit of Armani Code Profumo but I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s the vanilla. Although Armani Code Profumo is much more refined, I really dig Rochas Man!

Its nice smell… but not my cup.of tea.
To much sweetnes and longivety is poor…

  19. :

    3 out of 5

It smells really nice, starts with coffee sweetness and lavender, and the settles down to a gourmand sandalwood. The problem is the performance, 5h longevity, skin scent after an hour. You can overapply, 8 sprays and it will project better. Also carry a decant, it is cheap, so there is no problem.

At first spray, Rochas Man is super fruity and super sweet…like Joop! Homme level sweetness. After it dries down, it’s all coffee, amber, and vanilla. The sweetness doesn’t go away, but isn’t as intense as it is during the initial spray. The bitterness in the coffee cuts the sweetness. The longer it wears, the better it smells.
I have always liked Rochas Man. It’s different and I always get compliments when I wear it. It might sound stupid, but I feel kind of fancy when I put this on. Good stuff.

This is for the interparfums version..
P&G sold the license to interparfums in ’15
So how does the new version perform??
It’s pretty much the same..quite strong at first but stays close to the skin for hours
I would say it’s 99% the same but you can’t complain at this price.
It was never a powerhouse like lemale so let’s be happy they haven’t ruined or changed this
    Still the same still beautiful.

Rochas opens with bergamot and a coffee-ish, tempting odour, complemented with lavender and vanilla. Reminds me of spring flowers, birth of the nature when the sun finally raises up, you know the drill. Manly, not so much, but the rosy base works like a charm for some. Bomb. 8,5/10

A blind buy when I ordered this online for my husband and then forgot about it. No knowledge of this fragrance or what it’s notes were prior to receiving it. When it arrived in the mail I was surprised that I couldn’t remember why I ordered it. My husband was curious what this fragrance was about and when he smelt the opening spray, the sweet woodsy notes didn’t appeal to him and almost dismissed the perfume but after ten minutes he could smell the coffee and my husband actually liked it. This is his first gourmand fragrance and for the price I paid (under $30) he is glad to add this to his collection. Unfortunately the scent doesn’t last as long but the scent is amazing!!

Just wore this today. I have an old bottle, the juice has turned dark. I sprayed liberally on this cool spring day. It smells like everyone mentions here. With generous sprays, it has good projection and garners compliments. I passed a couple ladies in the stairwell who liked it, one really was turned on and said it was a panty dropper. This is a good fragrance, I think I will add another bottle to the collection. It’s cheap and smells good.

It was very confusing in the opening – I knew it was supposed to smell like cappucino so it took me by surprise that it felt fresh with bergamot lavender combo.
But the drydown brought it all – sweet vanillic cappucino with raspberry cheesecake standing next to it.
Bold, warm, sweet fragrance for winter. Absolutely unisex.
    To me 7/10.

I smell a mostly smooth toffee, caramel latte with a slight twist of … violet. The violet that I smell gives it a nice kick. If you’ve ever tried the candy “Parma Violets” from England – this is the smell. Works very well as a women’s perfume too.

it’s definitely not dated, in my opinion. could be a younger man’s scent.
has some of the same heliotropin-play dough scent of jaipur homme (smells nothing like jaipur homme, though), sort of fluffy, like a fleece blanket.

    My first favorite perfume.
My cousin used this perfume and I loved how much and how good it smelled of cappuccino, it’s my favorite coffee.
The smell is very sweet and very pleasant.
I have seen that there is a Rochas Man INSTENSE but the tab is not in fragrantica … with the pink liquid. Discontinued, of course, but I’d love to try it.

  34. :

    Got it for 25$/50ml(1.6oz).
Very accurate note “cappuccino” for this one. It is milky coffee with a touch of vanilla alongside a little lavender and woody notes. You almost want to taste it.
Longevity is somewhere around 5-7h… Projection is not the best at first, but after half an hour it gets louder. I don’t know how it is so, but it’s the first fragrance I have that does that!
I am disappointed! Don’t get me wrong, I love the smell. I was expecting a WOW factor, but it doesn’t have it. It is a fantastic scent, can’t smell anything wrong in it, but it is not that one that turns heads. The upside is that it has a very sensual, intimate vibe.
Think I said all I had for this one.
    EDIT:
After 12h a 4 spray applying can still be felt, but very soft. I’m going to upscale my silage rating.

I’m with Eva Wu on this matter. There IS a lot of ” just spray this amazing fragrance and all the ladies will drop their skirts and do the dirty with you” going on here….not so much at Basenotes for some reason.
It is a bit juvenile to think that a scent….amazing as it might be…..will do the trick. I think ladies need a bit more…..then again….I’m gay so I don’t really know…..haven’t found a scent that make guys drop their pants so far……
Also, the very irritating possibility to thumb down/ delete posts make communication a bit weird. When one reacts to an original post where a lot of follow up comments have been deleted it is bound to go wrong.

When I spray Canvas & Concrete prior to Rochas Man, Rochas lasts 6 to 8 hours. Rochas Man also works on clothing to extend the scent. With this longevity Rochas Man is now in my top 3. A real lady pleaser and you will love smelling yourself. It is a real sensual experience!

I can dispose of whole fragrance houses with Rochas Man. I’m kicking myself on the ass for waiting so long to try this, DAMN!!! This muthaf***a smells good. You know if Katie Puckrick doesn’t talk sh*t about it then it probably smells good and you know what else? This was one of the best blind buys I’ve ever made.

when I first got this fragrance, I was a little underwhelmed. a lot of hype for a scent that, in my opinion, under delivered. After wearing it a couple of times, however, I’ve begun to change my opinion. You have the coffee slowly turning into cappuccino until it ends up as vanilla/amber cream. the florals and sandalwood brighten the overall scent making it pleasantly sexy instead of Dunkin Donuts. Projection and longevity do well on my skin. For those who don’t get it at first whiff, continue to give it a shot…it’ll grow on you.

  42. :

WOW! Bought this with a bunch of other samples and wore it for the first time today. I find very few frags that last more than 3hrs on me bit this is one of them. Longevity so far is 5+ hrs and it’s a very hot day. Sprayed my wrist once each side and my neck. First thing I smell is coffee, which I love to drink but don’t particularly want to smell like, but that fades away after roughly 10 mins. I then jumped in my car with the a/c on and woah, the car is filled with creamy vanilla. I love vanilla but it must be creamy and smooth, not sickly sweet and this is a lovely creamy vanilla. In the dry down I don’t get any lavender, patchouli or raspberry, just vanilla, sandal and amber. I wouldn’t call this a woody scent, definitely gourmand. I personally don’t see this as a men’s frag, it’s more of a women’s or unisex but for the awesome price, who cares! Could easily be overpowering if too heavy on the trigger. Best performance of an EDT I’ve ever had, will definitely be buying a bottle of this. Buy it for yourself or your wife but I would not blind buy this for a very masculine male.
    Projection 8/10
    Longevity 8/10
    Scent 10/10
    Compliments 10/10

This smell takes me way back to when it first came out and it is one of my favorites of all time! A nice sweet, smooth, vanilla, coffee hits the senses while the patchouli and sandalwood gives it the masculine under tone. Because of that I don’t really see this as unisex like some people here claim.
Longevity is great too for me in a winter time. It lasts the day, 8 hours on my skin and on clothes it lasts for days. You will definitely get compliments with this one.
It’s true that there are some similarities with this and Givenchy Pi, but Rochas I find much more enjoyable imo.

Few fragrances hit me with the “All the wasted years” insight but this is one of them. After spraying this on my forearm, all the wasted years I could have been wearing this. I’ve said for years that I wanted a fragrance that smelled like Starbucks because who wouldn’t love that, especially me. This is not exactly Starbucks but it is a delightful totally inoffensive gourmand that would be great around family, at work and maybe even confined spaces. It’s very tame and perfect to wear when a tame fragrance is appropriate.

This is another nice, reasonably priced masculine gourmand. Which means it’s gourmand topped with lavender. It reminds me a lot of a masculine fragrance I have in my collection, Avant Garde, which I have and often wear. Very nice, smooth and refined without being stuffy. Warm and approachable.

Maurice Roucel is a creator of a lot of men’s edt and edp in my collection. They are all great. I have this one on right now. I will replace it when it is gone. You can spray it heavy and it is still nice. The opening is good and the drydown is stellar. I still wish it lasted longer.

    Fancy gourmand capuccino! Amazing!!

  52. :

    3 out of 5

I really love gourmand fragrances. Especially this type of gourmands. But this was kind of underwhelming. It’s way too overhyped.
That being said, it’s a pretty decent fragrance overall. Smells like hazelnut capuccino to me, kind of synthetic though when you smell it too up close. Like not flavour drop syntethic, synthetic in a way that it’s not edible which in my opinion is not a good thing for a gourmand type of fragrance. But you won’t get that synthetic smell in the cloud around you. It smells actually pretty delicious if it lingers in the air.
But for the given price of this I can’t really complain. For its price is definitely a good fragrance. But there are so many other good gourmands out there that I wouldn’t pick this over the others.
It’s definitely got character and it’s also definitely sexy. It’s not a beast of a gourmand like most others are and also not overly sweet like the others. I’m sure the people around you will love it when you wear it, could easily be your signature scent. You could even wear this in the office since it’s inoffensive.
Moderate sillage and projection. Overall a very medicore fragrance. People around you will love it, it’s just that I myself don’t like it as much as other gourmands.

What a wonderful blind buy, based off reviews I took a chance and I’m glad I did.
This is a strong coffee scent that’s laced with vanilla that tones the starkness of coffee down with sweetness. It’s more a vanilla Latte than straight out coffee. Throw in some raspberry and amber base and it makes for a very pleasant scent. I get no woody notes from it though I see it listed.
For me, with these types of scents, less is more. Too much and it may be obnoxious for some.
It’s relatively cheap so definitely worth a buy if you like sweet coffee laced with vanilla scents.
EDIT: I still love the smell of this but I’m struggling to wear it due to its sweetness. Less is defintely more!

Agree with @Eva Wu, a perfume is a reflection and goes with a personality. If you do not have any, sorry dude, actually no perfumes on this planet will give charisma and attractivity. A perfume becomes attractive from the moment the person who wear it releases something.it’s just a ++ factor nothing else

What is this idea that certain perfumes will turn girls into instant sluts? Like you wear a fragrance and suddenly every woman finds you irresistible?
Boys, let me reveal to you a little secret: if you don’t have the personality, charm, and looks to back it up, there ain’t no perfume that’s gonna save you.
Even a perfume as likeable and attractive as Rochas Man.
Because it really is lovely: it’s the smell of a guy in the morning. Freshly brewed coffee in the air, and some faded remnants of his cologne, giving a background hint of lavender freshness.
It’s a truly handsome, winning smell. So if you’re gonna wear this one, boys, make sure you’re as confident and polished as it is.
(Also go easy on the spray button: it’s pretty intense!!)

I get absolutely no coffee from this, and I’m someone who enjoys black coffee as well as heavily flavored/sweetened coffee. I still like it, but it smells like something you add to coffee like a vanilla creamer. Mostly I get creamy vanilla with a little sandalwood, raspberry, and lavender. Overall I don’t find it to be very gourmand. It reminds me a LOT of Montblanc Individuel in the drydown actually and I’m surprised only two other people pointed this out. Longevity has been surprisingly good for me at about 9 hours. I would call this unisex, although there is some distinct “cologne” note that makes me a tad self conscious wearing this as a woman. I’m guessing it’s just the lavender.
My only real problem with this fragrance is the bottle. It looks cool in theory (although not something you want people seeing on your dresser without context…) but mine leaks so bad. I had to resort to storing it right side up so the skinny part rests in the cap.

    (Jun 2017)
Quite sweet, but not boozy/syrup sweet, more of a soft, creamy sweet. It could still become cloying, but likely not as easily as some of the boozier sweet winter scents.
I’m personally not a big fan of raspberry, in general, as a flavor, but it seems to work well here. This is basically Givenchy Play Intense, but with more of a flavored cappuccino vibe, than the straight coffee/clay vibe of Play Intense. They’re both very similar, and both very good.
I will note, however, that for the first 20-30 minutes, Rochas Man has a peculiar quality to it. When inspected closely, there is a somewhat strong, bitter celery note mingling right in the middle of the cafe with everyone else. Yes, a bit weird, but it’s definitely there. At some point it ends up getting kicked out, and then everything is copacetic.
Seriously, take a close sniff in the first 25 mins and you’ll find celery. I find it a bit off putting, but unless your nose is right at your skin in the first while, it’s not noticable, and doesn’t seem to march with the sillage.

This is simply heaven in a bottle. This is number one on my collection right now, together with 3 more that smells differently but have the same levels as this.
The bottle, the sprayer, the price and the smell, perfect!
Blind-bought this 2 years ago based on web reviews, and most of them are right on the money. This is sweet, not offensive, love how the notes blend well, gourmand perfume lovers will simply be amazed with this. I bought 2 more 100 ml bottles just in case this is discontinued.
p.s. Found out my mom’s go to perfume when travelling is also this, caught her red-handed while spraying my collection, lol.

I’m not a big fan of gourmand chocolate scents, but Rochas Man is quite enjoyable to me. I can wear this from time to time. So, what you get here is a shiny, pink coulored box with a chocolate/vanilla flavored juice and its called “Man”, funny but it works. I understand the comparision with Givenchy Play Intense, but Rochas Man is the better option. It took Givenchy another nine years to release their version, and to me it is not as well blended as Rochas Man. Especially the pepper note is off-putting. Rochas Man is overall much more pleasant and well-rounded. And, the price is right here. No need to buy a tin can of Axe Dark Temptation when you can get a beautiful glass bottle of Rochas Man at a very affordable price. Scent 3.5/5 Sillage 3.5/5 Longevity 4/5

I have not tried Michael Jordan but this is not even close to Haarlem. Haarlem is a sweet yet dirty scent while this one is as clean as a scent can get and at the same time it is very sweet. It is not a bad scent but it smells rather cheap I would say. AXE quality.

This is my favorite all-time scent; then in a moment it is gone. This has a half-life measured in minutes on my skin. But those are glorious minutes.

Even after reformulation I still like it and the bottle design is great. First you allure a girl with a smell, then you show her the bottle and she knows what you gonna do to her this night 😛

A blind buy well worth the money. A beautiful vanilla scent that smells much more expensive than the price. 8.5/10

I won’t say much. This is the BEST male perfume ever experienced! I was always impressed from it’s notes listed here, I was curious till I smelled it today.
I am not the one who believes that perfumes must have gender. That’s a huge story that we won’t discuss here. Male ones should be lemony-woody-fresh but Rochas man is so hard to describe. So…so hard! I could simply fall in love with the one wearing it.
It’s notes are perfectly combined. Masculine but UNIQUE, a bit of a vintage feeling, sporty but classy, CONFIDENT, clean, as SWEET as a man should be. This is the first things come in mind when testing it. Maybe it’s just my taste, I find it nice in the air but when I come very close to the skin that is sprayed with, I wanna bite it! That says all…

I personally picked this out for my Husband. I loved AXE Dark Temptation and AXE excite, but I wanted to give him a classy cologne for his birthday. He has religiously repurchased ever since.
This is a male scent women love. For those girlfriends and wives that love warm, cozy, sweet scents. The coffee/vanilla combo comes of choclately and delicious.
This is not a clean/citrus/floral scent…if thats your preference.

It’s really hard not to like this perfume! I remember I loved it when I was young, totally forgot about it for years until recently bought it. 2014 batch, reformulated, but still smells as good, the projection is not what it used to be, it’s more of a skin scent now after minutes of application.
The scent itself is a beauty, sweet without being cloying, smells like light coffee, a half shot cappuccino with vanilla, but what makes this scent memorable isn’t the sweetness, it’s the floral nature and how light and fluffy this is, it’s smells on you like a whiff from someone else who just passed, no matter how much you spray it’s light and airy, probably the one and only sweet yet airy fluffy and light scent I’ve came across! Just beautiful. Even if it doesn’t project I’m glad I have it.

This is a top ten scent of all time!
Simple, yet delicious, and creamy and extremly well blended. Roucel is a MASTER at ‘fumes!
If you keep thinking to yourself if you should buy this or not, stop! Just buy it, it smells AMAZING and I promise you that you won’t regret it.
if you are looking for a wonderful, safe, non-offensive delicious, cuddle worthy scent look no further! It is truly deserving of its hype!
10/10 best cheapie of all time!

Remove the lavender and this is a female scent. That is how unisex it is. Personally, have zero issue there. It’s sweet and vanilla for sure but you aren’t wearing Britney Spears Private Show coffee fume. Part of me is disappointed by the mild coffee but also cannot say it doesn’t smell like cappucino. It’s one that is a welcome scent, sort of like the guy in the room that gets along well with everyone but he isn’t the most desireable. I can see how women would love this because they love that vanilla. The best feature here is a too rare male offering that doesn’t smell like camping or sailing. The guy who wears this is most definately urban. However, if someone else is wearing Habit Rouge or even Eros you may have serious competition.

I seem to be anosmic to the coffee compound in this.
I had expected to enjoy it after scouring reviews, but for me the fragrance plays out as a flat, thick mixture of lavender and vanilla that smells sadly a bit dated by the “barbershop” background vibe – which to my nose is mostly just aromatics meeting an indistinctly synthetic creamy element (not unlike shaving cream). I adore the aroma of coffee in any state and can imagine how a generous dose would transform the other components to elevate this composition, but my nose finds none.*
Instead, I’ve sampled many times on skin, fabric, and in different climates but still can’t perceive anything besides a marshmallow with herbal tendencies. In that regard it fails as an understudy to Hanae Mori’s HM like I’d hoped, but rather apt for the chorus.
(*I just happened to recall earlier finishing a tin of French roast, and took the opportunity to spray its interior with Rochas Man to emulate whatever I’m missing. As suspected, the combination is marvelous! A treasure for you who can enjoy it as intended.)
EDIT: Either my nose or the bottle needed time, but now I appreciate this much more – perhaps also because it fills a unique spot in my wardrobe. I no longer perceive it as synthetic, but warmer and more blended than jarring. Still no significant coffee, but nonetheless thumbs up!

It attracts girls around me and they say this perfume smells sexy. Moderate sillage and moderate longevity. It is ratherly cheap these days (around $25) so go and grab one.
