Poppies! Poppies!
Poppies will plut them to sleep!
Now they’ll sleep!
– Margaret Hamilton, The Wicked Witch of the West
The Wizard of Oz
Red poppies are among my garden flowers.
They usually grow as wildflowers outdoors in nature, in meadows, fields, in forests, in the wilderness, in the countryside. But botanical gardens also grow them and these flowers can be seen throughout the US. I have California poppies which are their official state flower. They come in various colors: yellow, red, orange. Red ones have a distinct scent. This bottle captures the exact same floral fragrance as red poppy.
Opens with a citrus scent and a spice, which, as most wearers/reviewers have aptly observed, is like Coca Cola. The strong citrus is fresh and sweet at the same time. The spice note is actually coming from the aromatic herbal side of the flower, the leaves and the additional note of cloves. The earthy, spicy, herbal, floral scent is downright botanical. Anyone studying botany and loves flowers and has an interest in formulating their own scent with poppy should look into buying this fragrance.
Sweet, strong, floral and unisex, this is quite good as an actual perfume on the skin. But because it is strong I only spritz once. This scent lasts longer than the usual and typical Demeter Fragrance which I find surprising. Maybe it’s the cloves which is a base note. There’s also an oily texture which makes me feel that they used more natural oils and extracts than chemicals. The perfume is also good for spraying in the air in your home to give it a pleasant floral aroma. Good for spring and summer. I associate poppies with summers. Makes me want to fall asleep in a field of poppies like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz when the Wicked Witch of the West cast a spell on the red poppy field that led to the Emerald City.
Absolutely Gorgeous
Thank You Demeter

Warm citrus and spice — my nose detects primarily lime and clove. Reminiscent of Coca-cola with waaaay less vanilla and sugar.
If I’d never seen the label, I’d never have known this fragrance is categorized as a floral.

I’m a male and I don’t find Red Poppies to be markedly feminine.
It has some kind of earthiness that makes it wearable by a man. Also, I found it to have a passionfruit-like tone… you know, that sweet/sour kind of thing. So, it’s more of a fruity than a floral scent and reminds me of some kind of soft drink, but still being delicate and elegant like a floral.
Being earthy, floral, fruity, sour, sweet, Red Poppies is somewhat complex for a single note fragrance and draws attentions quite a bit. Especially in regions where red poppies aren’t common or aren’t even known (which is the case where I live).
If possible, try wearing it on a moderate weather, closer to cool than to warm. And I advise you to wear it stoically: it’s very pleasant, but gives me a headache if overapplied.

My daughter’s name is Poppy and I just had to try this fragrance. I have never smelled an actual poppy but this is what I imagine it would smell like. It’s a little sweet but has a pretty spicy note to it that left me craving more. I’m not a floral fragrance lover but this is completely different than your average floral scent. I agree with the other reviewers that it doesn’t last long unfortunately. But Red Poppies is the type of scent I wouldn’t mind spraying for touch-ups. In my opinion it almost reminds me of an floral oriental… Very pretty and great for day or night.
P.S. I have a sample of Secretions Magnafique and this has absolutely no similarity to it in my opinion. Completely different.

The 2nd Demeter scent I’ve tried and my review is a male point of view.
This is a very lovely scent and it seems really unisex.
I bought it by reason of the memories from my childhood.
My parents live in a small town where (wild) poppies are still in many places, along the roads and in the gardens.
This Demeter scent is very close to the smell of that poppies ( the real wild poppies are a bit more acrid, I think). A little bit peppery-like, a little bit sweet but not directly candy-like just fine, a little bit earthy but not dirty while keeps the floral freshness till the drydown.
D.R.P for me is a very enjoyable “everyday happy wildflower version” of Hermes Eau de Gentiane 🙂
This scent is simple and relaxing, lasts a couple hours on my skin and doesn’t change too much.
I like it because of the memories and because of itself 🙂
Try it in Summer, you’ll be amazed how pleasant it will!

this perfume starts off on the spicy side and in no way reminds me of secretions magnifique or believe me it wouldn’t be touching my skin. as it drys down it reminds me of sparkling sweet hard candy. dosen’t last long. it’s demeter! i’ve been spraying all day, but i still love it.

What a lovely scent…earthy, yet fresh, not at all sweet, and wearable by men and women. I have never smelled a poppy, so cannot compare it to the flower, but after smelling this perfume I will make it a priority to do so. RP immediately struck me as very similar to Secretions Magnifique by Etat Libre de Orange, only without the skank and with a hint-o-mint. Like all Demeters, it is linear, but the dry down does provide a softer version of the opening. Longevity is excellent, even in the dry dead of winter. Wearing it brought a little Spring to my snow shoveling!

What a lush floral, earthy, sensual frgrance it’s wearable day or night, and not overbearing like most of their frgrances
but wish it was an eau form , it’s better than Coach Poppy.
