Though the smell is good but not masculine in my opinion. Sweet and like mild baby powder. In India it become skin fragrance very soon.

Timeless class in a bottle, at a very economical price.
I was delighted when seeing that this much-discussed scent was easily found at CVS. At only $8.00 for a 6 oz. bottle, I figured such a deal couldn’t help but be worth it. …and it most certainly was.
Almost like a French equivalent to Italy’s Proraso Green…
This is a very traditional, old school barbershop tonic scent that never goes out of style. Sure, as you’ll likely read elsewhere, it’s already light at first splash and becomes a skin scent in about 30 minutes. But people do need to remember that this is a bargain-priced after shave, and not a high-end parfum. It performs exactly as a reasonable consumer should expect it to, and it does not disappoint.
I don’t know how accurate the notes description on Fragrantica is, but I get a generally likable, elegant blend of tangy citrus, powdery freshness, and a slightly animalic base note such as musk or civet. Whatever it is, it is certain to leave the skin refreshed post-shave, and leave a becoming and inoffensive fragrance behind that’s appropriate for the office and/or non-fragrance crowd, but might still net a swoon or two upon a casual hug.
Some persist in arguing about the poor longevity and sillage, and “cheap plastic bottle,” but really must keep their expectations in check. At this price, and for such a classy, fetching, and enduring scent, it’s rather petty to complain.
If Proraso Green’s similar aesthetic is the perfect face-freeze barbershop splash for spring and summer, then this is the ideal companion for fall, winter, or casual nighttime wear.

This is a timeless classic and absolutely love it. If you are into classics this is for you. This is also the signature scent of a barbershop if you love that scent. Would I buy again? Absolutely. I have bought the other scents from Pinuad and have so far used the Bay Rum (which I absolutely love also) and the Musk.
    The Gents score ( 10/10 a gentleman’s classic)

The benchmark fougere. Oak, lavender, and citrus, in perfect proportion. THE barbershop smell.

This is what men wear. My fiancé loves this stuff and out of all my fragrances this one is in her top 5. Don’t let anyone tell you this is an old man scent. Yes, it is old but it still holds up well despite its age.

This is a classic barbershop cologne/aftershave used by men in barbershops for over a hundred years, especially in North America. It smells basically exactly like lavender-scented talcum powder. In fact, upon smelling this it gave me memories of going to the barber as a child. Maybe they used Pinaud Clubman. The projection is very light (it’s more of an aftershave than a cologne) while the longevity isn’t bad at about 4 hours. It opens up very alcoholic and provides a deep burn if used after shaving, and smells very clean. To me it’s basically very powdery oakmoss and lavender, and smells identical to talcum powder. Overall I really like it just for the nostalgia, but as an aftershave. As for stronger colognes that resemble Clubman and also have the barbershop scent, they are the following (in order of how much I like them from worst to best): Canoe, Azzaro pour Homme, Replica’s At the Barber, and Chanel’s Platinum Egoiste.

I’m the grampa y’all are talking about. Been using Clubman Pinaud off and on for 60 years. I love that you can still get it at RiteAid. Sometimes the beauty supply stores in the strip malls have it on a back shelf along with other Clubman products (talc, etc.). Robert B. Parker’s “Spenser” character, a manly Boston private eye, takes hell from his sig other for wearing it, but he persists! Can’t stand the Special Reserve version (smells like a wet saddle), but the regular – it’s great, the price is right, and it gets attention – just what an old grampa needs 🙂

What else can be said? Clubman is a damn classic. When I wear it my wife calls it “Handsome Sauce”.
I use Clubman as an aftershave at least once a week, its performance in that regard is superb. I usually follow a Proraso Blue shave with Clubman. I decanted it into a glass bottle and added about a TBS of glycerin USP as a humectant. I go nuts with it, no gentleness, pour out a huge handful and slap it on generously. Stings like a bastard, but that’s what makes it a great AS splash. Then I rub the surplus on my chest before getting dressed. It projects for about 20-30 minutes then quickly becomes a skin scent.
I feel like for me Clubman sits in the “so old it’s new again” region. My wife had somehow made it her whole life without ever smelling it, and when I first tried it she thought it was something modern. My sister in law, however… the one time my younger brother tried Clubman she told him he smelled like an old man. He was bummed, he loved it.
I’ve been able to make it work pretty much anywhere – dressed up, dressed down, doesn’t matter. Pretty much impossible to offend anyone with Clubman. It’s a Gold Standard for me.

I could bathe in this! Wait….I actually did. When I was growing up there used to be a kids shampoo called “КРЯ-КРЯ”. I’m telling you something in Clubman reminds me of the vintage version of “КРЯ-КРЯ”. Let the “in-soviet-country-cologne-splash-you” jokes roll in! 😀 😀 😀

Musky oakmoss lavender. This smells far better than the cost would indicate. Longevity isn’t bad either for after shave at around 2 hours. Literally the definition of a barbershop scent, and the de facto standard of many true barbershops around the United States. This doesn’t belong at a *wince* “hair stylist for men”.
Basically, what a man should smell like. Period.
PS If you’re like me and wish this came as an EDT, then go to your local drug store, (or online) and plunk down a $20 for Dana Canoe EDT splash. 99% similar with just a tad more sweetness in the drydown, but really spot on. I was pleasantly surprised at how close it is. Also 6 to 8 hours longevity to boot.
PPS As a side note, everyone talks about how important it is to decant this in to a glass bottle for full effect. While I agree that this works, I would venture to say that it isn’t so much the glass bottle that improves it, rather than the act of decanting itself. When you pour this into a bottle, you heavily aerate it in the process. For reasons I can’t quite explain (help me out here chemists…. partial oxidation of some aroma compounds?) I believe the aeration process brings out the top and mid notes in a more full way. I say this because I’ve noticed the same improvement as decanting even while leaving it in the plastic bottle, but after using about 20%of the product, allowing air to enter the bottle and mix with the remaining juice. This somehow “activates” the notes in the same way, I find.

Oakmoss, spice, and everything nice. The label wants you to think it’s old-fashioned, but the scent refuses to accept it. Timeless. Yes, its longevity is poor, but we’re dealing with an AS after all. You wear it when you want your girlfriend to “discover” it on you. There is no need to mention drydown since Clubman makes a beach assault on your senses.
It’s the period that’s needed at the end of your wet shaving and grooming duties. Splash, smile, ready.

If I’m not matching up my cologne and aftershave, this is my favorite splash. Love that old school barbershop smell and how it tightens up my face.

This is a great aftershave scent, but it does have a strong vintage vibe. It smells like an old world barbershop and reminds me a bit of my grandfather. Good lasting power for the price too.

I would highly recommend transferring Clubman AS into glass as soon as possible when you buy it (keeping plastic bottle for comparison). It makes a world of difference especially with The Veg, Special Reserve, original Clubman and Vanilla. After you transfer them into glass let them sit for a couple of weeks and you’ll be amazed at the difference.

I definitely didn’t like this one. It smells plastic and cheap.

Ok. I just picked this up along with the clubman talc. This stuff is everything I wanted and more. Im swooning over myself lol. Its a classic barbershop, creamy, powdery and manly. I just love it so much! Its cheap and lovely.

I was hanging around with my wife and daughter in a mall-chain cosmetics supplier called Sally Beauty when I spied this next to, of all things, barbershop talc and spanking new double-edged razors…. Who knew? I was surprised to see such an unvarnished presentation of what has been tidily reconstructed by the lovely bearded tattooed dandy hobos in the postmodern, pricey & packed barber shop downtown. Anyway, this stuff is great… It will cost you coffee money and you’ll want to round up a glass bottle to decant it into (this step is important.) It starts off almost luminescent in its intense citrus medley, segues into lavender, geranium, and some sweet floral I don’t really care for, and lands on a cushion of mosses (my very new bottle still has oakmoss and tree moss, thank goodness.) As some have commented, note separation is a scratchy vinyl record of an old blues tune. The good news is that the cheapness (strong blast of alcohol, candied citrus and granny florals) burns off by the time you’ve arrived at work, leaving a talc & moss drydown with considerable stamina and pleasant discretion. You come to love the harshness anyway.
Applied lightly, it layers pretty well as an aftershave with things that also turn powdery and mossy, or anything with barbershop/eau de cologne opening accords (the current formulation of Azzaro PH is actually improved by it): Rive Gauche, Eau Sauvage, Guerlain Vetiver, Caron Third Man, Brut, or even Habit Rouge. In an age of moss-less reformulations, you might even find it adds something that was missing.

Creamy?!?! Yes, this is creamy! I have hard many others say this is a creamy comforting scent, and it is. I get a warm blend of oakmoss, talc, some spice, citrus and perhaps coumarin? This is the epitome of barbershop scents. I believe this scent may not have been the first but definitely defined the genre. Very strong upon initial application! Then it smooths out to a creamy scent. One could say this is “dated” but I think it is a universally recognized and loved scent that it doesn’t really matter. Let the haters hate! For the price it can’t be beat!

Since I’m a girl, this will be an at home bedtime fragrance. It is the male equivalent to Ambush original, even more so than Canoe. Many women’s perfumes from the 60’s had this same sweetness.

Well Idk about Brut but this is exactly the ideal Musk
If your a MuSk Man,I have some Vintage Old spice Musk
From the 80’s I suppose this is about what it smells like,So if your looking for Old school Musk this is it

Very similar to Brut… I think it’s the alcohol and oakmoss that reminds me of it. Straight up barbershop smell that changes quite a bit from sniffing out of the bottle to an hour dry down. Got it for $4 on sale at Walgreens and love the stuff. Works better than most aftershaves as well… nice “creamy” smell to it once it dries… powder, somewhat flowery… clean smelling.

This is a Classic. It is somewhat of a barbershop smell, but it is very floral and a bit creamy as well. A lovely masculine smell. Very long lasting for an aftershave. Better than anything at this price.

I really dig this stuff. As somebody said below me, it is definitely a “man’s man” scent. I think anybody would agree it also smells comforting — like if you can imagine what your mom smells like; this evokes that same kind of familiar, safe feel. It’s absolutely the smell of a classic American barbershop. Its cultural familiarity paired with the fact that it’s actually got some great longevity makes it a great day scent, even for work. I wear this with or without a shave. It smells like a respectable man who takes care of himself. Good enough for me!

I prefer niche fragrances, for example I’m wearing Knize Ten, but I douse my head in this whenever I shave it. A very genuinely nostalgic, barber shop smell. A classy fragrance for a Wal-Mart price.
Don’t let the affordability or accessibility of this classic frag leave your pride ruffled, this is good stuff. Celebrate it.

This is a familiar scent for those who grew up in the 50s and 60s…Dad returning from the barbershop on a Saturday morning after his ‘every two week haircut’…a scent from a bygone day yet still works today. It is for a weekend after a good shave before donning a woolen shirt and jeans and going off to do those household chores…it screams manly, clean and groomed. Every man owes it to himself to have a bottle to splash on every now and then to simply make him feel good about life. And the price is right!
Update: Purchased a smaller bottle having run out of after-shave….what a disappointment! Has reformulation even taken over these lower-end (meaning price) products?….only a bare resemblance to the original…how sad…..

The trick with Pinaud Clubman is to open it up to some air flow and decant it into a GLASS spray bottle. This will get rid of (or at least substantially reduce) the plastic smell it reeks of since its been sold in plastic bottles.
This makes a great ‘fragrance without being a fragrance,’ and smells much better misted liberally over bare skin than splashed on from the plastic bottle. Lasts all day, and yep, it does call to mind Canoe, Wild Country, Brut, etc., while smelling more bracingly mossy.

If you ever went to an old school barber shop this was the scent and still is in some places. I got onto this when I started wetshaving and I still wear ir from time to time even after my new obsession with perfumes.
It is an aftershave and not a perfume. I love the light burn you get from it. If you have a rough shave it burns like crazy! Leaves the skin feeling great! Some say it feels a little oily but I dont get that.
The notes pretty much nail it! It is a green citrus and oakmoss scent with a little spice.
Some say it smells like an old man but I dont care.

Never been to a barbershop, but this does smell pretty old school in terms of what general smell and development it follows as an aftershave lotion. As it’s not really a ‘cologne’ its kinda hard to put it next to anything in terms of open/mid/drydown and ‘notes’ but the closest thing that this compares to would be Brut, Old Spice or 4711. However, this beats all of those in my opinion as the nice citrus-moss one-two is slightly crisp, slightly warm, slightly sweet and a widdlebit powdery. Perfect for after a shave, when you get all sweaty in the heat or when you wanna feel like to you just used some nice baby wipes to get rid of dance sweat.

It’s odd that of all the scents I own and wear with regularity, this is the first for which I will write a review. I’d never bought the aftershave until recently, but have enjoyed both the talcum and the hair gel as little splashes of scent that rarely attract attention, but always very positively. I suppose I was being a bit of a scent snob since this was easily available at the drugstore… (for under $10.00 for a 6oz container) That said, I find it to be an audacious little scent! Though no one seems to mention it, I smell a rather hefty heart of lemongrass and palmarosa in the mix hovering just above a thick base of rose, leather, lilac, lily of the valley, moss and must. Strangely, Clubman has very little in the way of a top note. What is present in the yummy aldehyde /wood/floral bouquet you get from the linalool in the compounding. I don’t suspect it is from a natural source due to the pricing, but both the oakmoss and treemoss anchoring the entire scent seem altogether genuine and very heady. This scent has almost no need to pause for a dry down as it seems to inhabit that space immediately. It absolutely smells like an old fashioned barbershop, but it does so with abject honesty and unabashed masculine charm. I only wish I had the chance to wear this more often.

I have been going to the same barber for 39 years. As long as I can remember, he has dabbed this on the back of my neck after a haircut. For me, it’s the quintessential barbershop scent. Oh, and it’s so inexpensive you can buy a bottle at CVS with the change in your console. I buy it from my barber for twice that price. He’s old now. He should have retired a long time ago.

This is the stuff that is missing from today’s low tier aftershaves. It’s the confident, unapologetic everyday-man aftershave.
    It’s an aftershave’s aftershave.
If you were to ask any aftershave of any worth who inspired them when they were growing up – they would likely mention this guy – if they had an ounce of honesty.
This is the stuff of pop getting ready before the family dinner party. It’s polyester pants and funky patterned shirts. It’s about Hi-Balls and Seven & Sevens. Smoking the Camel and sitting back and shooting the – you know.
It’s the stuff that was a compliment to the atmosphere of it all back in the day. It comes in a splash bottle because it’s for men who haven’t lost that last bit of abrasive in your face natural honesty. It’s for the guy who has not yet been voluntarily castrated by the grayness of present day low budget perfumery.

After Skin Bracer, but before Brut, there was the original Clubman aftershave-lotion. The formula is supposedly “blended in France” but assembled here in the U.S. of A. There’s no way to know if that’s actually happening unless you work for Pinaud, but it doesn’t matter. Clubman smells terrific.
It is basically a bigger, louder, more flamboyant Brut. It’s Brut’s Hawaiian shirt-wearing cousin. Its sugary lemon/orange top accord quickly blooms into a massive coumarinic rose, the red hot flower perched atop several super powdery cheapie-cheap stabs at iris, sandalwood, and animalic musk. It smells so loud and surprisingly dense that there are literally “several” attempts at each note, like the perfumer wanted three renditions of them bundled together, in the hopes that at least one of each type would peek through and seem right. The result is something that doesn’t smell the least bit natural or refined, but it has genuine Old World charm. It smells like a pre-war musky fern.
I prefer Brut, with its streamlined sixties design, but sometimes reach for Clubman after a shave, when the weather is cool and the company is strictly friends and family. If you like this sort of thing, Clubman and its congeners are cheap enough to fill your medicine cabinet, and this one is loud enough to last you a lifetime. Sticklers for oakmoss would be happy to note that the last I checked (my bottle purchased a year ago), Clubman still contains the stuff.
