I smelled this without high hopes, but my instant reaction was excitement! It is the perfect rose. Simple, natural and fresh. But by the end of its life (less than an hour) I came to the conclusion that, however nice, it was not a lot different from rosewater. And rosewater is cheaper…

Smells extremely similar to Roses de Chloe and at times, Bvlgari’s Rose Essentielle . Looking at the notes, they have 4 notes (out of the 6 that comprise this fragrance) in common. Longevity was about 4-6 hours. I couldn’t smell it after a while, but others could. I’m guessing people who say this scent is not long-lasting, are trying to smell it on themselves vs asking a family member. Sillage is intimate, meaning others can smell it if they are in close proximity of you, but you won’t be smacking someone across the face with a rose bush with this one. I like it. If I come across it in a store, I might consider buying it.

This is a great perfume for those who enjoy sweet scents but don’t want anything too cloying or heavy. This one is light, fresh, and unlikely to offend. I mostly get roses and a touch of sweetness while wearing this.

Beautiful absolutely beautiful. I love magnolia flowers and roses so when I saw that this scent contained both notes I went after it. The fragrance is strictly floral and of course the rose is the star. This is not a screaming floral however and all the flowers are well trained and subtle, yet detectable. Magnolia is very clearly there. The other scents I picked up on was the black currant or grape note and the vanilla. Very much a summer scent. Fragrant but inoffensive. This is probably the best rose and magnolia pairing I’ve ever come across. It also comes off as romantic and flexible enough as both a day time and evening scent. I love it to death.

I’m a fan of this fragrance. It’s feminine, but not “fussy” at all. It’s a clean, fresh, and pretty scent. If you are a fan of roses, you should love this. If you are not a fan of roses, I still recommend trying this; it’s not too heavy. I’d say that this is a really good introduction fragrance to roses.
Upon initial spray, the rose and the verbena come out. It’s very floral, powdery, and watery. As it dries down, I smell more of the cedar blending in with the rose. It smells like a garden on me (I can even smell a tad bit of dirt on me; but in a good way). I really love it.
I can’t really smell the black current or the vanilla in this, to be perfectly honest. I find this scent to be a straight-up floral.
The only thing I’ll complain about is the duration. The sillage is quite good (so you don’t need to spray yourself liberally with it), but the lasting power isn’t the best on my skin. It lasts roughly about 2-3 hours on my skin.
Overall, I love this. While this perfume doesn’t make me feel like a bombshell or anything, it does make me feel romantic, light, sophisticated, and feminine. It’s a “happy scent” for me!

There is more than just a drop of rose in this fragrance. It is a pretty fragrance. For those that love rose, this is a very nice option!

DKNY Drop of Rose (hereby known as DoR) is a very, very fresh, clean take on roses. If you like your roses infused with soap and other scrubbed flowers, this is your girl.
The rose here is not deep or rich, rather it is sweet and light, and almost drowning in the lemon verbena/white flower notes which come off as just being a ‘fresh ‘n clean ‘n soapy’ accord on my skin. There is a hint of woody tea, too, and a bit of light musk.
It smells nice but DoR is pretty simple. It smells more like a rose scented soap, and is really, really light in concentration, more like a body spray in strength and lasting power (read: pretty poor.) Appropriate for smelling freshly showered, inoffensive, perhaps for people that object to smelling like they are wearing perfume, or for when the weather is extremely hot and humid.
I enjoy Paul Smith’s Rose much, much better, it is more of a true rose lover’s perfume, and it has better performance as well.

To me, synthetic, with a BIG S, with a touch a scrubbing bubbles…not me. Sorry

The first fragrance that I can call it has true ‘fresh cut roses’ scent.
It smells very soft, sensual and feminine.
Just like its name ‘A Drop Of Rose’, this perfume makes me feel like I’m laying down on a bed of roses and rose petals are dropping all over my body. LOL
If you’re a big fan of rose, this perfume is the one you should not miss. 😉

i agree…pure rose oil. this reminds me of east European churches where they have the habit to put holly ‘mir’ on you and most of the time its actually just rose oil or lavender. And what’s even nicer is that some monasteries actually make the oils themselves out of the flowers they grow in their gardens. Lovely and spiritual.

Smells like pure, lightly sweet, fresh rose oil. Clean, romantic, charming.

Oh, if ONLY this lasted longer!
I bought this by accident – I meant to buy a backup of DKNY Pure and came home with this instead (the pink lettering on the box should’ve tipped me off). But rather than return it, I kept it, even though roses are not at the top of my notes list, as they frequently give me the sneezes.
Upon first spray, however, I was captivated. Like other reviews, I agree wholeheartedly that this is a very real, fresh-smelling rose. Sometimes when I try to wear a scent with a one-dimensional floral note, it seems “scratchy” and unwearable. Not this scent. The rose is so real, you can almost feel the softness of the petals.
After the rose calms, I get the delightful scent of a forest, which must be the cedar. It’s like carrying a bouquet of roses through the woods. This combo is just beautiful to me! Alas…it doesn’t last!
If ONLY this lasted more than a couple of hours, I would make this a favorite for sure. I love DKNY Pure (the original, and the one I thought I was buying) and the longevity on that scent is pretty amazing. Drop of Rose just doesn’t have the staying power.
I will certainly use this up, and since I bought a small bottle at TJ Maxx for $15, it’s no problem to keep it in my purse and reapply during the day. That initial burst of roses really does me in!

I just purchased this luxurious scent and it has me totally captivated…obsessed even! Once I spray it on, my wrist is practically super glued to my nose. I just can’t get enough of these dewy, heady, sublime roses. To my nose, this really smells like a fresh rose bush or bouquet. Incredible. Indulgent. Irresistible. I am so sad however…I have found that it is not detectable in the slightest after the first 30-45 minutes no matter what I have tried to extend its life on my skin. I usually spray pretty lightly because my husband has allergies and a very low tolerance for fragrances, but I have even broken my rule about that and have been spraying a LOT on at a time (about 5-7 spritzes on my neck and 2-3 spritzes on each wrist). Sadly, even this isn’t helping the intensity, the longevity or the sillage at all. I went ahead and practically soaked my shirt with it and it didn’t even hold on to fabric any longer any better than my skin. What a letdown! I love this scent so much – it would definitely have to be in my top 10 favorites – except for the fact that it doesn’t exist after 30 minutes. So…I’m going to enjoy it at home. where I can keep the bottle next to me and reapply at least once per hour. This juice is so precious, it is well worth the inconvenience!
ETA: It is now the very end of summer here, and because I have read others mention that the season can change the way one’s chemistry reacts to scents, I’ve been trying this perfume again the past week or so. I have to say that the season-chemistry connection idea must be correct, for me and this frag at least. Before, this scent seemed to last a mere few minutes on me – and now a couple of spritzes last for at least 4 hours. Quite an improvement, especially since the scent itself is divine! I plan to continue to test throughout the seasons and I thank those who have postulated this idea very much!

I don’t know why most of the reviews say that this doesn’t last. My skin eats up perfume and because it’s so dry, nothing lasts on me. Having said that. This nice rose perfume stays on me forever. And I love how it lingers in the background. I didn’t like it at first. It reminded me of boring elizabeth arden pretty. But this is more complex than ea pretty. Anyway I like to layer this with kate moss kate perfume. Such a good combo.

I don’t get all the comments about this being fresh. It’s a straight up sweet cloying sinthetic rose, something my grandma would wear. I blind bought it for my mother who’s 68 and even she thought it was oldladyish, gave it away.Never trust the reviews.

This is 90% fresh, blooming rose. The other 10% are made up of a very shy, lemony verbena and magnolia. Upon application I find the rose smell very overpowering and almost sickening. Then again, I’m not used to the scent of roses, so that’s probably why. I can’t pick up on the vanilla at all.
For about the first 30 minutes this is too overpowering for me. After that, it tones down to a skin scent that I occasionally still pick up. A drop of rose is completely gone after about 2 to 3 hours. So much for longevity.
I’ve never been too crazy about the smell of roses, but I decided that I should at least give them a try. Unfortunately though, I’m still not able to make up my mind about the scent of roses, despite having worn this a couple of times. Most people around me seem to enjoy it though, so I guess it’s not as offensive as I think it is. My boyfriend especially likes this perfume.
A Drop of Rose is very close to being a single note perfume, as the rose is definitely center stage. It does not mix with the other notes, it just overpowers them, which is a shame. Very linear. Sillage could be better and longevity is outright bad. Some EdT’s have better longevity than this. I wouldn’t buy it again, but if you like roses and don’t mind reapplying, then this is for you.

This is a nice, delicate, lotion-ey rose scent for the spring. Garden parties, baby showers, April mornings on the terrace sipping coffee…
Feminine, light, inoffensive and I would imagine quite office friendly. I really like this version of Pure.

Actually, human noses are very different from each other. I read, comment after comment, that this scent smells like fresh roses. My nose feels something different. I happen to have many roses in my garden, for some reason I only get to grow two types of flowers: roses and geraniums, everything else inevitably dies. All very dead. The roses are here as a pest, and as we have what we have, my boyfriend does nothing but to put roses even in the soup for me, which is very romantic, he is very sweet, but I’m starting to think that I would kill for a simple, clean and innocent white daisy. I love giant white daisies. Well, that said, needless to say I’m used to sniff roses everywhere, all the time, like it or not, and … And!!! This thing smells like anything but a fresh rose. Indeed, for me it smells like roses withered. And I can not stand the smell of a rotten rose. What I notice is the smell of a warm, very dead rose, on a stone scorched by the sun, hot and flabby, with the characteristic nauseating odor beginning to emerge. I almost ripped my arm trying to delete this stinking horror from my skin. I’ve tried with soap, dishwashing gel, sunflower oil and olive oil. The roses keep dying clinging to my arm fiercely, God is my witness. It’s almost as scary as Dior – Forever and ever, which I have the misfortune to own. I have not found a single rose scented perfume that smells like real fresh roses. I do not know what’s up with the ingenious noses of the world, but my nose does not agree with them on this. On the contrary, I find out that there are many noses swarming out there while generating wonders smelling like violets. Why the h*ll do not get them the same with the roses? Anyway, if your nose is like mine but you like floral funerals, you’ll love it. A Lot. Until the end of days. I really envy all of you, people, when you find this to be delicious and fresh, I wish it was the same for me, really, but I’m happy for you enjoying this fragance so much!
    ***

Mmmh… A drop of rose is amazing. It smells just like fresh cut roses. Picture a bouquet of roses with the morning dew still on its petals, that’s what this DKNY perfume smell like to me.
The rose in here is very dominant, I smell almost nothing else but the rose, which I like. There is something that help cut down any sharpness, but I can’t put my finger on it. Could be the vanilla but it’s by no means a sweet vanilla scent.
Pure rose, I love it. I smells likes roses for hours and it’s a delicate and fresh, no powdery sweetness. I feel like an English lady in long white chiffon dresses when I wear this.

Something might be wrong with my nose, but this one is greeted by the scent of tomato juice for me!!
Strong tomato juice and then rose…
    I don’t dislike though.

When I first sprayed this I thought it smelled just like roses and instantly took me back to my childhood years. After about-let’s say 10 minutes, it brought me back to the present because it smells just like Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Nil. I sprayed it on my arm on 3 different occasions and I get the same thing. I seriously don’t know why I’m the only one that thinks it does.

Lovely fresh/dewy rose with lemon verbena, a bit of vanilla, cedar & too much currant. The currant mucks it up & makes it an unsophisticated & ho hum perfume. I would wear this all the time if it were not for the currant. The rose is absolutely lovely & the verbena is a pretty green lemon scent. I feel they were going for the marketing angle of all the sickly sweet fruit perfumes when they threw in the currant. They didn’t go crazy with sweet currant but it’s still a bit much. No nasty patchouli. It lasts all day & in to the next on my skin. The sillage is big (not huge)- one spritz is plenty.
If you like fresh rose & a bit of sweet currant, you will probably love this. For me, it’s a “Like” not a “Love”.
I also bought the “Pure DKNY – A Drop of Vanilla” at the same time. It starts out lovely with vanilla, rose & cedar but the currant is way too overpowering & throws the balance off making it almost sickly sweet. They should have named it “Drop of Currant” because that is the most noticeable note. I was hoping for a lovely vanilla perfume. It lasts and lasts on me & has plenty of sillage; one small spritz lasted until the next day & I did not have to sniff my wrist to smell it in the air. If you like fruity sweet scents but not the teen type of sweet scent – you may like this. It’s not disgusting sweet like “Fancy” but definitely sweet.
These two scents are interesting in that they have pretty much the same scent notes but in different quantities.

It’s a clean rose scent, very safe and likeable. I usually get a lot of compliments When i wear this. Yes It does not have too much longevity but for summer it’s perfect, as I don’t like the way perfumes that last too much on skin get with heat and sweat. It avoids the summer perfume weirdness.

My review is the exact same as Aliakatt, before me. Beautiful, true rose with no staying power. A shame.

  25. :

This smells like a real rose, not a synthetic or overly sweet, powdery rose. Much as I loved the scent, I didn’t find that it lasted that long on me. Very disappointing.

Very nice summer-scent. A bit “dry” rose in nice mix with Verbena, Vanilla, Magnolia and Cedar. I also have Prada Infusion de Rose – and they are like sisters, they share the “dry” abit dark unsweet Rose-note. Great!!
En riktigt härlig sommar-doft. Lite “torr” ros-not i go mix med Verbena, Vanilj, Magnolia och Cederträ
Jag äger oxå Prada Infusion de Rose, de är lite lika, som syskon ungefär. De delar den lite “torra” djupa osöta Ros-noten. Härligt!!

This reminds me of a rose-scented face cream I used to use as a kid, and I have to say it’s really nostalgic. This perfume smells like real rose…not the synthetic smell of roses, but actual, full-on rose.
If I have to compare it, I would compare it to something like l’Occitaine’s Rose 4 Reines…very heady rose. For me, the rose scent turns powdery, but remains a steady rose scent on my skin…it also lasts quite long on my skin. It’s definitely a very classic, feminine scent.

The concept of the Pure range appeals to me. The use of recycled materials appeals to me.
Unfortunately however, what comes out of the bottle just doesn’t really do it for me.
Like katuliena says, it has weak staying power. Other people may smell it on her, but on me it just disappears.
This is not supposed to be a heavy hitting queen of rose perfume, I get that, but … I couldn’t even call it a skin scent. Spray .. oh! a little dusty rose .. pouf! .. it’s gone!
Being an optimist and positive person it took me a long time to decide whether or not to post a review about Drop of Rose as I don’t like to be negative. Being honest about an experience though, I think, is more valuable.
This one will, sadly, be going on my swap list when I arrange it. Shame …

Beautifully simple! I can see myself purchasing this after finishing my recently gifted bottle. Potential staple, for sure! Dusty, but fresh.. not overly sweet or dry, feels very close to a purely natural scent. Perfect for the spring!

On me, I definitely notice the Turkish rose, musky magnolia and cool vanilla..
Overall a nice, subtle musky almost skin like rose – theres a little too much magnolia though which gives it a slight powderyness.

Love this fragrance. I thought it has very weak staying power, but this is not true. It is just my nose, other people notice the smell. And I can hear compliments. Using DKNY a drop of rose and Paul Smith Rose. I love both of them. But DKNY has sharpnesss, I think it is black currant, but it is a good thing to me. It is still very clean, very fresh and feminine fragrance

  34. :

    5 out of 5

One of the most classic and beautiful fragrances DKNY could have come up with.
It is TRUE to it’s name. Rose is absolutely what you get. It does have a very powdery and soft dry down.
My skin is tough to hold on to certain fragrances…but this one is just beautiful.
I have been in love with this. Luckily I have a huge bottle which is quickly nearing it’s end.
    Would I re-buy? YES. Definitely.

I think the name of the fragrance desribes it accurately – it smells like pure, fresh and uncomplicated rose oil. It reminds me a lot of Stella McCartney Stella, but a bit less overpowering. I like this fragrance but I prefer my rose scent to be even more subtle (more like rosewater rather than rose oil).

  36. :

I love this fragrance, but it has a very weak staying power. I have to apply it after 1 hour. I got very dry sking, that could be the reason. But the scent is very feminine.

This is a stunning rose perfume for those of us that do not care for rose perfumes. This scent is delicate, angelic and lacks the harsh cloying and bitter nature of Tea Rose. I can see this scent being worn by a teen girl at ballet class and an older woman alike. It wears close to skin for me. Like the only other rose scent I can wear (Narcisco Rodriguez For Her EDT), it is non-soapy and makes me feel innocent.

This might one of the most beautiful rose perfumes I have ever smelled. I tried really hard to like “Florabotanica” but felt that it was too “perfumey.” This one is the total opposite. It literally smells like pure rose, as if they just blended a bouquet of roses and threw it in a bottle. It’s soft and feminine, and I feel like that is what Florabotanica was lacking.

  40. :

Ah, this is what I like to call my “ballerina perfume.” I’m not one for rose scents but this is lovely. The rose is surprisingly fresh- not musty or cloying. It’s smells like a legit rose straight out of the garden. Delicate, pure and ladylike. Recommend!

By now I got this as a gift. It reminds of Paul Smiths’ Rose and I would have liked a replacement, but the DKNY Rose has very weak staying power. Also as such I find this scent weak. It doesn’t come out as nice and sparkling as Paul Smiths’ Rose. Also there are notes in it, maybe cedar and amber, that spoil the rose experience.

I tested my sample yesterday. It’s very fresh and clean rose scent but for my absolutely not soapy. There is something disturbing in it, some green note which disappears slowly. This for my nose comes always with rose smell. I am not a fan but i’m happy i could test it and remind myself that about rose my taste still stays the same.

  47. :

    5 out of 5

Very clean, very pretty – pure and fresh rosy floral. Dries down to a soft floral/citrus soapiness. Really just very pleasant and inoffensive. Somehow modern and fresh smelling despite the genre. Not sweet at all, it is crsip with a hint of bitterness. I get no sweet fruit or vanilla. The notes that stand out are rose and verbena. Even though it stays fairly close to the skin, it is quite long lasting. A clean, soapy, citrus rose.

  48. :

    3 out of 5

Nice, more “rosey” than a hint/drop of roses would make you think from its name, but it is a layered and lovely fragrance non the less. I detect jasmin in it as well. The dry down in me is too sweet, and this fragrance has no sort of “edge” to it, it’s very soft and un-intrussive, not my kind of thing, I like it for work when I need calm.

  49. :

Never have I been a fan of rose scents, but this one? Lovely! Delicate, pink petals, stem, leaf and earth, bursting with fragrance after a summer shower.
Amazingly light, fresh and natural. Not at all like the heavy, cloying retro rose our great grandmothers wore.
This one definately falls into the “new breed of rose scents” category and IMO, is the best of the” Pure” flankers.

I love roses, but not necessary the heady essence of rose that a lot of perfumes seem to incorporate. This light, natural, almost ethereal smell encompasses your rose garden after a rain shower. Pure rose, feminine and unambiguous. Perfect scent for anyone who is a rose fan.
