Description

In May, Chanel launches Les Eaux De Chanel, a new line of three Eaux de Toilette (Paris – Deauville, Paris – Biarritz, Paris – Venise. The line is named after travels and ties between Gabriel Chanel and certain cities during her career and offer „a sense of freshness that is as emotional as the memory of a journey“. The creations are all signed by perfumer Olivier Polge.

1913. Gabrielle Chanel opens her first fashion boutique in Deauville. The seaside resort is a haven for elegant women, the first to wear wide-brimmed hats and dresses inspired by the masculine wardrobe. PARIS-DEAUVILLE transmits this rural charm in green nuances to the heart of a fragrance that seems like fresh, clear air.

Paris – Deauville is an aromatic-citrusy fragrance that possesses “lively, natural, radiant freshness” inspired by the Normandy coast. Aromatic green basil notes are combined with Sicilian orange.

It is available as a 125 ml Eau de Toilette.

Paris – Deauville was launched in 2018.

Although listed as a chypre, I find Paris-Dauville to be a lovely, soft aromatic fougère, perfect for the office. It is uplifting and energising with a smooth progression from the sweet citrusy top notes, through the greenness of basil and fresh cut grass, to the lovely, lingering woody base.
All through, it has a sun-shiny, shimmering aquatic aspect that makes you very happy. I am a huge lover of classic, complex perfumes, redolent of a bygone glamourous era, but this one really makes my day!

I stand corrected on Paris Deauville!
I’d written an earlier review stating that the patchouli spoiled it for me. I think it just depends what mood you’re in with this one.
The weather’s colder today, maybe that’s why it’s performing differently on skin? Anyway, having decided to test this again since I really enjoyed the uplifting opening green notes, I noticed a soft very pleasant waft after an hour.
I’m not noticing patchouli as much there’s a pleasing woody soapiness, tinged with fresher green qualities here.
Some perfumes are always going to be the ‘go-to’ favourites, and I might not always be in the mood for this, but it’s definitely grown on me!
Sillage light to moderate, longevity good.

This smells like Lemon Pledge mixed with Ivory soap scent. Super-soft sillage and not good on longevity. 🙁
Hopefully it performs better on others. I don’t pick up any of the notes listed here really, other than the lemon and maybe some bergamot and I suppose the green notes and the white floral is lending the Ivory soap smell to me. I don’t dislike this, I just feel it smells too much like a cleaning cupboard to my nose. Again, hopefully it performs differently on different skin and for different noses. Fleets from my skin in less than half an hour, so perhaps that is why I don’t pick up any of the base notes listed here at all.

Sprayed a sample card this evening, and I get lime with clean-type patchouli, and jasmine and rose peeking through. Not immediately tempted; there’s something effortfully effortless about it.
Dries down similar to AC Mistral Patchouli.

I can’t tell what notes I smell in it. I get tea tea note, but it’s not listed here. Smells like luxurious soapy scent to me and I like it. I think it would be so great for autumn, I just hope it has good longevity.
It something to wear with a light beige trench coat, so nice.
It is a bit masculine, but it doesn’t bother me.
I hope to have in my collection some day.

Just not too bad. Finally, Gabrielle (2017) will not be alone any more.
I had high expectations for Deauville, which I thought it would be the best among this line, and for quite a while, I even suspected the sample was mislabelled with Biarritz by Chanel’s factory due to reliable reviews from BaseNotes forum… Well, both are rightly placed.
I don’t know how to start with, just let me do this: Since O de Lancome (1969) is discontinued, there surely leaves some room for Deauville, a modernized (free of moss) iteration of OdL.
After the reminiscent opening, it soon evolves into a generic soapy drydown. Anyone who has ever encountered the smells of shampoo / body wash products from Procter & Gamble or Unilever will definately get that. Meh.

This is my favorite of the three and it seems the most Chanel of the trio as well. It’s light and bright with that Chanel citrus melange you find in Coco Noir. Very likeable, and exudes the sophistication that you expect from Chanel fragrances. I don’t know about Deauville, but I could see this accompanying a summer holiday in Nice perfectly.

I want to love this so much more than I do. I know it’s a high quality scent, I know so many have raved about it so I felt safe in a blind buy (it worked for Chanel-Venise, after all). I don’t see myself wearing this one as often. I can’t quite put my finger on what it is that is keeping this from being more than a like but when I figure it out, I will update this review. I wish I’d have purchased Biarritz after Venise, instead. It’s longevity is horrible but it smells great while it lasts!

This scent is almost Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche. Long lasting compare to other two from this serie. Very crispy.

Shimmering citrus and moist greenery. Reminiscent of Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Acqua Celesita with a little bit of dirt and more pronounced rose. Not particularly exciting, but it’s a beautiful, high quality, and effortless summer scent.

I have been wearing my sample for a week now, and I quite like it. As others have noted, it opens as a nice green citrus scent, with very light floral notes. After about an hour, I mostly get the petitgrain and patchouli, accented by the orange. It reminds me a bit of the long discontinued scent by Victoire Gobin Daude, Jardins Ottomans (2002). Paris Deauville is light, but lasts for a few hours on me, and is really great in the high heat of summer.

Deauville is my favourite of Les Eaux, from the start it smells great, it has a bright fresh beginning, citrusy and green at the same time, even a bit leafy, yet it doesn’t turn masculine like Biarritz..then the green edge goes deeper, and the scent gets a more aromatic edge..it does have a bit of Chanel Cristalle , but briefly…Cristalle is all luminous and green floral, Deauville has an earthy undertone.l.what I like the best is the dry down..it gets warmer, more balsamic, I personally do not detect much rose nor jasmine…now, it isn’t really what I like wearing, but I must say I am impressed with Paris deauville, it is intriguing, classy, fresh, and timeless..I don’t find it unisex really…now longevity is ok, better than Venise , but it isn’t like a very longlasting scent,..I wish those would come in 50 ml, I would then purchase this one right away..

This fragrance is sparkling like a glass of chilled Champagne. It combines green, herbal /slightly earthy/ & citrusy notes with sweet, tender, floral notes of jasmine and rose. It´s like an olfactory merging of male and female principles in one fragrance. It´s definitely unisex, utterly versatile & supremely elegant.

This one gives me such a strong les exclusifs vibe. Les exclusifs the whole line shares this specific dna and Deuaville has it too. It could easily belong to Les exclusifs line.

The first notes of Chanel Deauville are delightful – a very pleasant and very natural citrus mix. Together with the traditional rose-jasmine mix delights the senses.
I am impressed. the perfume lasts for about 5 minutes at this stage, after which it is placed on similar base notes up to the identity with Chance Eau Vive.
So let’s recap – a spectacular introduction of the most luxurious cologne, followed immediately by Chance Eau Vive. The resemblance with Eau Vive comes from the red orange note that dominates the citrus mix.
On the whole, Deauville is a youthful casual scent, like the one already mentioned by Chanel or Dior Addict Fraiche, built with more natural ingredients than commonly used in the mainstream portfolio.
In copmaration, Chanel Eau de Cologne seems a baroque creation, but Deauville was targeted to a very young audience and, if the price and distribution are not impediments, it could be successful.
Keep in mind – this fragrance has been targeted as strictly unisex for marketing reasons – it has nothing, but absolutely nothing, masculine in it.
    Fragrance 9/10
    Projection Medium
    Longevity 8 h

I am HIGHLY interested in this fragrance just based on the listed notes. Just when I thought I was done for now…another one tempts me…
I am a total Chanel sucker. And I may want to layer Deauville with my Coco Mademoiselle pure parfum. 😀
