Description

Momento is part of Volume 1 of the SCENT STORIES Collection which debuted in 2014. Volume 1 consists of 11 fragrances to be released on a members-only basis for the first year. The fragrances’ notes and concepts are reserved for members only. The fragrances are planned for release to the general public in a year, when Volume 2 of the collection is released.

“Olfaction is the sense that’s hardwired to your brain. A direct, subconscious passage to memory and emotions, a memorable smell is rarely forgotten. In SCENT STORIES, each perfume is a potion and an abstract work of art. We invite each guest to spend time with each aroma. Engage, reflect, project, and allow each to transcend your moment. Like a good book, we hope each chapter takes you somewhere captivating. An exchange in the creation, alchemy is achieved in this dialogue and we hope that you find the stories interesting. The collection is rare, exclusive, and made from only a single batch of the best ingredients in the world. We encourage true connoisseurs to collect their favorite chapters.”—Chad Murawczyk and Mindy Yang of MiN New York.

Another beautiful creation of this house suitable for mild weather, spring/fall, day and night. Ansolutely unisex with uncommon smell. From very close is quite strong but pleasant. In the air it’s wonderful!
Dominant notes are opoponax, artemisia, rose, wormwood (which is stronger at the opening) carnation, mild aldehydes (I’m not a fan of this note though), jasmine and lavender. The rest notes are very mild but until the end you can feel every single one. Very well blended scent. The opening is the best part of this scent. Long lasting with moderate sillage.

I shouldn’t like Momento but I do. The lavendar and aoud alone, should stop me from even testing it. Reminds me of Guerlains Jicky. If it was easily attainable at a reasonable price, it would go on my want list. Behaves very well on my skin.
For a recent creation, Momento feels very vintage.

It starts off promisingly, with a very interesting blend of tarragon and Tauer-style sparkling aldehydes. Unfortunately, unlike Tauer perfumes, Momento has no backbone. It doesn’t develop much, and there is very little that is intriguing after the opening. It dries down to a boring, slightly soapy, pale amber skin scent before long.
I am still waiting for a MiN fragrance that comes even close to justifying the $240 price tag.

Posting off a recent Selfridges (London) round, Momento had the potential to be a classic I felt but fell short due to the now almost criminal inclusion of the powdery lavender.
Niche scents shoud b over this overpowering (overpowdering?) note by now as even at this level of craftmanship it is hard to make one come away from the ‘designer vibe’ impression.
The opening did not help, there was nothing ‘wow’ or supremely quality about it; greens, maybe vetiver, non-sweet ouhd-ish like hints, and citric-bergamot aldehydes make it an odd mish mash of Chanel No5 with some greenery, floral and resin thrown in.
No real accord dominated nor was anything what I was after; the resin doesn’t appear at the start so there’s no point apart from chasing ghosts here and the odd mix off greens, bergamot-like citrus (instead of juicy, natural lemons) and grass note were further spoiled by the powder.
Too much designer, too much price (£180 for 75mls?!), too little time.
I was impressed a bit by Magic circus, not by this.
    My rating: 5/10.
    Quality: 7/10.

Momento is overall quite a classic fragrance. It opens with an aromatic and sparkling citrus accord to then quickly evolve into a competent but completely unimaginative ambery-woody base. There’s something unquestionably retrò about this fragrance, something very familiar and comforting but it’s a deja-vu kind of composition from top to bottom. Not bad at all but given what perfumery already offered in this genre during the past 50 years, I’m afraid this falls into meh territories for me.

Just got this sample today, and I cannot get past that aggressive powder note. On my way to the sink to scrub this off as soon as possible.

Okay I am going to eat my words here. I recently ventured to nyc and ended up getting my nose on this scent. I smelled it and immediately knew this was the fragrance for me. Soapy but in a way it was dark and mysterious too. Great year round scent. I am very fortunate to own it because this smells very unique.

I wanted to buy this as I am taking a trip to NY soon but the price has jumped from $180 the to $240 now. I have not smelled this fragrance yet but the price point alone is enough to give me second thoughts.

“Momento” opens with a sharp soapy citrus which reminds me very much of a newly freshened toilet in a swanky hotel. As the pungent aldehyde and lemon combo drys down, the lavender and oponopax become more prominent and it turns into something VERY similar to Chanel “Pour Monsieur”.
It’s not bad, but I just can’t bypass the association with disinfectant.

Slightly pungent and reverentially old-school, I find that Momento smells like a mashup of an ‘80s powerhouse with an ultra-modern industrial product—a combination that’s striking within its context. Bitter citrus tackles waxy aldehydes to produce a novel opening sequence, giving way to a sweeter heart with soapy lavender facets. While I’m inclined to approach it as a traditional aromatic, I’m not sure that’s really what it is as Momento hearkens back in some ways and looks forward in others. After an hour or so, the base reveals itself to be an affable, yet simple sweet amber complete with floral nuances. I’d describe the overall effect as an unconventional candied twist on something much older that pushes up against the boundaries of genre demarcation.

Momento is a myrrh lovers dream as the main player is sweet, resinous myrrh. As Momento opens, you’ll get a huge blast of lemon, sharp and a bit harsh, hovering over a resinous myrrh. Tarragon adds a hint of spice to the composition and absinth adding some depth and richness to the mix. As Momento develops, the tart lemon dissipates and the myrrh sweetens and becomes the front and center note for the duration of its lifespan, accented by a touch of aldehydic sparkliness. An earthy patchouli blends seamlessly with the myrrh in the base to temper it so to keep it from turning sour as myrrh has a tendency to do. This is myrrh done right, sweet, resinous and completely wearable. Momento is quite complex as it changes constantly on the skin for the first few hours, as the scent warms up slowly over time and becomes denser and richer, but never too heavy. Longevity is monsterous at 12+ hours on my skin and it has moderate throw. MiN New York has done an amazing job with the Scent Stories collection and Momento is the standout of the 11 fragrances for me. It was an instant purchase and one I am extremely happy to have in my collection. This is a Members Only fragrance available only to those who are charter members of MiN New York’s Private Members Club.
