Description
The Peace-Love-Perfume Project was created by Carlos Powell in celebration of his highly active community of perfume lovers. Perfumers were asked to create fragrances based on the Peace-Love-Perfume logo. Ellen Covey of Olympic Orchids has created a trio of perfumes for the project, all of which work as stand-alone fragrances and can also be worn together. Each Peace-Love-Perfume scent is available in a 5 ml travel spray and a limited run of 30 ml parfum sprays.
Love by Olympic Orchids Artisan Perfumes is an Oriental Floral fragrance for women and men. This is a new fragrance. Love was launched in 2014. The nose behind this fragrance is Ellen Covey. The fragrance features blue lotus, sandalwood, olibanum, benzoin, vanilla, musks, notes of humid air and tarragon.

Most people go fan-boy over Beyonce or pro-athletes. I go gaga over talented Perfumers. So I made a day trip up to San Francisco’s Japan town district, in hopes to meet Ellen Covey of Olympic Orchids. Unfortunately her plane was canceled, so I didn’t get to meet my idol at this niche fragrance convention.
OO’s Love was one of the perfumes I hoped to sample at this event. Thankfully, the house sells samples from their online store.
Love brings to mind a lightly exotic-tropical Plumeria, nicely balanced with benzoin to make the vanilla sweetness non-cloying. There may be a tiny bit of tuberose, unobtrusively dialed-down, in the background as well. A mere hint of ylang, something fruity, & coconut for depth? To be clear, you’ll never actually *smell* the olibanum-benzoin. Much like the L-beams in a building, you know it must be there for support, but invisible to the eye.
For me, Love is a halcyon, carefree Sunday on a tropical vacation. Love love.
