Description
Guerlain introduced its new masculine fragrance L’Homme Ideal in 2014. In May 2015, it will launch its first reinterpretation called L’Homme Ideal Cologne. “The ideal man is a myth. His perfume is a reality.”
The composition L’Homme Ideal Cologne combines energy of citruses with charm of fresh almond and masculinity of vetiver and musk. The fragrance is a citrus – woody. It opens with orange, bergamot, pink pepper and grapefruit. Fresh almonds are mixed with neroli in the heart, while the base combines light white musk and strong vetiver.
The bottle retains its original design, this time painted in white. The fragrance is available as 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.
The nose behind this fragrance is Thierry Wasser.

I got this fragrance as a gift from a friend of mine who knows that i’m a fragrance lover. I was so excited cuz it’s a Guerlain cologne and based on it’s appearance was looking like something i would love. But after applying it on my skin i was like if i had smelled it before, but can’t even remember to what in that particular moment. After 2 days wearing it and thinking about it, my mind reminded me of a lost gem from the Avon line launched in 2008 called Patrick Dempsey Unscripted that i used to wear in college days. Guerlain L’Homme ideal cologne smells almost identical to Avon’s Unscripted, i knew it that i have had smelled something like this before, L’Homme ideal cologne have a good projection for an hour or so before becoming a skin scent around the third hour After application. I found it fresh, citrusy and woody, longevity is not good, it’s pretty light, not a unique fragrance but not bad either. I think Guerlain should Thanks Avon for discontinuing Unscripted cuz that one was truly inexpensive and the performance was way better than L’Homme Ideal Cologne. Cheers ✌

This has an instant creamy lemon smell. That is what first comes to mind. This is a nice light fragrance that is good for a warm sunny day and good for the work setting. I really enjoy this one. I give this a 9.0/10
zyama03 – :
Based on scent alone, this is one of my favourite perfumes. It helps that grapefruit is one of my favourite notes and I feel it’s so beautifully done here.
The mix with the almond gives it a unique vibe, something that makes me dream. When I wear this I feel like a sophisticated gentleman but also one that can relax and be himself without the need to be all dressed up.
I feel this is better suited for spring and especially summer, with enough personality to be worn at night too, but I love it so much that I’m sure I’ll wear it year round, mostly in casual situations.
It’s probably good enough for office and dates too, and even for formal events if you are young, but to me it represents casual life, friends, brunches and cocktails. I’m pretty sure this is what Jay Gatsby used to wear during the summer.
Performance is good and overall I think monsieur Wasser has done a terrific job of making a modern Guerlain that can stand side by side with the classics.
My only issue with it is that there were occasions where I felt there’s an accord in there that’s hard on my stomach. Not sure what exactly it is or if it’s about the quantity I’ve sprayed, but that’s the reason I can’t give it a 10. My verdict is 9.5.
Meloman430 – :
Incredibly similar to Givenchy Pour Homme. The opening here is better and this wears lighter.

I don’t hate it. I just…don’t know what to make of it.
On paper, this stuff is amazing. I really enjoy the original L’homme Ideal and the Parfum, and what you get on paper with LIC is Ideal’s bright sweet cherry syrup with an incredibly authentic grapefruit up top.
But on skin…yeeesh. The amount of stages this thing goes through – from a blast of sweet orange and cherry, to a superb grapefruit, to a weird lotion-like almond, to all of the above with a grassy vetiver, to basically a mild and dry vetiver (and all within 3 hours!) – it’s unreal.
And it’s not the kind of vetiver you’re thinking of. It’s nothing soapy or clean or spicy like you might get from Hermes, Diptyque or even Carven; it’s just..well..grassy. The whole composition really doesn’t blend well IMO – and I’ve given this a full month’s wearing. So yeah, let’s just call it “niche smelling.” LOL
And as far as the DHC 2013 comparison, to me, it’s not at all similar. DHC is more of a bright citrus blast with a musky frootloops drydown, whereas LIC is much flatter, much more complex and significantly more discordant. Some people have even compared LIC to an ice-cream flavour and I definitely see where they’re coming from.
But to me, it’s just one of the strangest transitioning concoctions I’ve ever smelled. My guess is that it’s the almond-vetiver combo that’s throwing me off, because this is nowhere near a bright generic citrus freshie. It’s actually an inspiring grapefruit fragrance, with… some weird dry, grassy almond cream SOMETHING in the background that makes me think of glue. LOL Yeah. Niche indeed.
Whatever. I just spray my clothes now and it’s fine. Would I consider it a regrettable purchase? Yep. But a redundant one? No way! I just didn’t expect to come down with OCD – olfactory confusion disorder. PS – I hope that’s not an actual thing… Here’s to blind buys!
Scent – 5.5/10
Projection – 5/10
Longevity – 6/10
Overall – 5.5/10 (:S)
Romion29 – :
I have the Dior Cologne, which is a grapefruit cologne as well as Ideal Cologne.
The Dior is fuller, more projection. Ideal is more tart citrus, more refreshing, less floral.
The only thing I don’t like about the Dior Cologne, is that it’s too sweet, this one is not very sweet at all.
This is the most natural grapefruit fragrance. This is actually closer to Fico di Amalfi by Acqua Di Parma.
This is a very nice, classy cologne. It’s very simple. The nuances of almond and pink pepper do smooth out the grapefruit, and add some aromatic touches.
This is very clean and natural smelling. Usually fragrances this inexpensive smell synthetic in a cheap way; this does not.
This is a good one to put in your gym bag, to wear after a workout and shower.
Smells very fresh and clean, without hardly any sweetness added.
I think the longevity is better with Ideal cologne than Dior Cologne or Fico di Amalfi. This smells just as good, more wearable than both and less than 1/2 the price. Great value here.

I admit I first didn’t care much for the whole L’Homme Idéal line when it came out. It seemed too simplistic, too safe to bear the Guerlain name.
But as the rest of the masculine market kept spiralling further down the toilet every year and advertising budgets rocketed skywards to compensate, I learned to appreciate Guerlain (and Hermès) more and more. It’s a cruel twist of fate that Guerlain’s feminine track record of recent years is strewn with cowpats, while its masculines are almost uniformly handsome and well-made.
A good flanker is one whose idea seems self-explanatory when you compare it to the original, like it’s just been lying dormant, waiting to be fully realised. Disregarding the insipid Sports version, L’Homme Idéal is a masterclass in the art of flanking. The Intense extends the woody-smoky substructure into veritable Serge Lutens areas of orientalism (compare it e.g. to Féminité du Bois, and you’ll see what I mean). The EdP builds on the original’s gourmand facets, proving that you can construct a boozy-fruity oriental without copying Paco Rabanne.
The Cologne is my personal favourite. Thierry Wasser’s trademark durable freshness, which permeates the original from top to bottom, was just waiting to be turned into a full-fledged eau de cologne structure. As usual, “grapefruit” is more of a marketing blurb (see Guerlain’s own Pamplelune for an actual grapefruit fragrance), but we do get a rich, natural orange-bergamot that recalls Francois Démachy’s elegant Dior Homme Cologne. The citrus top is indeed very similar, but the Guerlain is more substantial in its foundation, a lightly spiced vetiver that somehow retains a citric glow for hours.
The fact that this line sells is comforting reassurance that there are still people out there who want actual perfume instead of high-powered deodorant.

Ideal Cologne has been the very definition of a “grower” for me. Initially expecting a typical summer fresh scent, I was unsure about the almond/citrus/vetiver/musk combination. It is an uncommon accord and, upon first wearing, I wasn’t convinced it worked too well. This is one of those times I’m glad I blind-bought a full bottle, as I was able to live with this one for a while and come to understand the beauty of this fantastic fragrance. The almond is subtle and lends a classy, mellow, creamy depth to the typical fresh combination of citrus and vetiver. Ideal Cologne is a three dimensional warm weather scent, and that’s a wonderfully uncommon thing! As such, it is seasonally versatile and can either be classy or casual. Finally, this is an EDT, not an EDC as some would assume, and I get solid performance from it. This is a real gem for me, a very special fragrance of superb quality.

According to Luca Turin in “Perfumes: Guide 2018”
L’Homme Ideal Cologne (4 out of 5 stars) grapefruit vetiver
“…The original Homme Ideal was pretty good, and notable for a cleverly constructed drydown with a property that perfumer Thierry Wasser seem to hold the secret to: a weirdly long-lasting freshness. The cologne achieves one of the best grapefruit notes in living memory. To call it a top note would be unfair, because it tapers very slowly as the vetiver takes over. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about this fragrance is what it does not force upon you: oily synthetic sandalwoods, piercing woody-ambers, nauseating barbershop musks, etc. Nice to see old world manners alive and well in an affable, urbane, eminently wearable fragrance. LT”

L’homme Ideal edt perfected. They took away the synthetic ambery base and replaced it with soft musk. The bitterness of the citruses is masterfully balanced with the sweet almond-tonka combo to give a sort of ‘bittersweet honey’ (this was my first impression when tested years ago) totally edible.
Projection could be better but this one benefits from body heat so an active breezy summer afternoon would be its ideal scenario.
Have been hesitant about getting Chanel’s AHEB but was never fully convinced about its prominent lemon note… This Guerlain solved that problem (at least for my tastes).
9/10
——————————
L’homme Ideal edt perfeccionado.

First impression of this is that it smells exactly like a mai tai tastes. It’s sweet, almost boozy with some nutty creaminess that adds depth, from the almond, like the orgeat (almond and orange flower water syrup, which I guess would explain why the neroli note is was included in here) in a mai tai. And it’s all kept in check and perfectly balanced with the citrus, that lemon/lime note and a hint of orange, again just like the orange liqueur and lime juice in a mai tai!
This like the rest of the line I think tends to lean a tiny bit mature for the average nose, or I guess formal would be a better way to word it, even though it’s sweet and citrusy but it could really be pulled off I think by literally any age group. It does NOT smell like cherry at all btw. I think most people are just accustomed to have a fruit smell like strawberries or blueberries along with a sweet almond smell like in muffins or just food and drinks in general and in the fragrance community the combination we’ve seen a lot is almond and cherry but there is literally no actual cherry scent to this all. Just like how people always assume there’s all sorts of different fruit juices in a mai tai because of the almond syrup when there’s literally only citrus in it.
Overall I think this is really good! I have no clue if the mai tai parallels were on purpose, purely coincidental, or if it’s just the bartender in me talking, but I can tell you it works, it still makes my mouth water a little when I smell my sample. I’m not entirely sure I wanna smell like this yet I do really like the smell and I do really want to make myself a mai tai right now.
P.S. Just in case you haven’t gotten it by now, all a perfect mai tai is 1/2 part orgeat (almond syrup), 1 part lime juice, 1/2 part orange liqueur, 2 parts your favorite rums, you’re welcome!

Great quality for $30 don’t trust anyone who calls this Lemon Pledge this cologne dries down into a very fresh lemon scent. The freshness is reminiscent of fabric softener, the lemon is the most prominent note not harsh or overly sweet just a nice balance, the almond note is subtle but adds a sensual uniqueness to the overall smell which makes it addictive. This juice is very pleasant I’ve gotten multiple compliments on close encounters, its definitely a soft safe scent so over spraying is ideal. This stuff is really versatile almost unisex even though it leans masculine. The scent quality and price warrant a buy and recommendation from me. Mild projection makes it ideal for close encounters, dates, and office use, any situation in which a nice light scent is appropriate. This scent puts me in a happy place
Scent 9/10 Great
Performance/Projection 5/10 Weak Moderate

PROS:
* Pleasant & Unique. It’s different than every other fragrance in my collection of 200+ fragrances.
* Modernly Masculine. Although tobacco is not listed, I get whiffs of cherry pipe tobacco but in a lighter fresher “summery” composition.
* Versatile. Best in warmer weather but would be suitable for any season and occasion except clubbing of course.
* Pretty decent value at $35 for 3.4oz online.
CONS:
* Subpar Performance. Offers very little sillage, becomes a skin scent quickly. Spraying clothes is essential to make it last little longer.
* Wife does not like it. She said the drydown smells little stale and musky.
* Nothing like Dior Homme Cologne which smells to me like a fresh glass of ice cold lemonade. In contrast, the citrus in L’Homme Ideal is lackluster.
Overall: 7/10

What makes this cologne stands out is the transformation of the dry down, it first starts off citrusy and then ends up with a creamy almond blend, simply a masterpiece from Guerlain.
uzala – :
This fragrance is overhyped. It smells fine but you can buy so many better summer fragrances than this. It doesn’t stand out or do anything unique which is unfortunate because the original and EDP versions of Ideal are unique.
Gavroshrus – :
Blind bought this due to the cheap price and hype. All I can say is WOW!!! Smells exactly like (Lemon) Pledge. This cologne smells like it wants to evolve into a beautiful, and unique scent. But fails to do so on a monumental basis. The overall scent of this cologne is too flat/linear (boring)– especially coming from this fragrance house.
Here’s the truth, there are far too many better smelling summer colognes on the market for $30 or less that one should consider first.
If you like the way (Lemon) Pledge smells, you may want to check out this cologne. Now, if you rather not wear a cologne that smells like (Lemon) Pledge, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. This cologne is a perfect example of a cologne that has a nice concept, but failed delivery.

Damn. Damn. Damn.
I had smelled this first on Monday, sprayed on paper – the result: gentle citrusy alcoholic house cleaner that pushed me right into preferring the Original and Parfum way more. But that being said, on paper the other two bored me. No Guerlains for me that day.
Fast forward to Wednesday, I see this again at a store for a fraction of the price. I try it on my skin, walk out the store; smell my wrist…smile…”OMG”. I turned right back around and purchased it.
Looking at the note breakdown, I see this having a similar opening to so many other blue, summer, fresh fragrances. None, however, come close to the quality and blend of this fragrance.
I get an opening of a freshly squeezed citrus (lemony-grapefruit), mixed into a slushy and as the minutes pass into the hour, the slushy blend turns into a creamsicle that’s lost some of it’s sugars and take on some of the flavour of some wheatgrass or sage. damn. Summer frag #1, with Dior Homme Eau, Dylan Blu and Aqua Farenheit trailing closely behind. Love it. Love it.
Added: I tried the more recent AdGs and Isseys and I didn’t fall for them like I did this one. This purchase will be my best summer frag for years to come.

After sampling Dior Homme Cologne at a retail store I was convinced a full bottle was in my future. After seeing some comparisons of GLIC to DHC, I decided to find a sample to try before purchasing..and I’m glad I did! I totally get the comparison. Both have very realistic, very modern citrus and grapefruit. GLIC however has a very unique quality to it, due to the almond of course.
At times there is a delectable quality to it that makes you almost want to taste it in the mouth. Unlike most simple citrus fragrances GLIC has a somewhat more complex accord, although it’s a bit linear due to the short lived nature of the fragrance. Perhaps it develops, but it’s gone far too soon from my skin. I had the same problem with DHC. By the time the citrus was giving way to a lovely white musk, it had become but a skin scent. I’m finding the same longevity issue with this as well, which is sad because every Guerlain I’ve had up until now had such great lasting quality. Shame.
It was love at first smell for me, and this would be my go-to summer day scent in a heartbeat, but now I’m having second thoughts due to the longevity. My decant’s atomizer is not the best so I’m wondering if anyone is having better luck with the Guerlain atomizer?
It would be a solid 8/10 for me with better life, but not sure I can justify adding this bottle to my collection if it can’t last me through to a lunch-time reapplication. The search for my modern citrus continues.

Fragrance -L’Homme Ideal Cologne Guerlain
Bottle from – 2017
L’Homme Ideal Cologne opens on my skin with a cheerful, bright, fresh and a bit icy and spicy citruses mingled with neroli laying on top of a creamy almond.
As time goes by,almond becomes a bit stronger with a nice touch of clean vetiver and with the tender trace of white musk.

To me this smells like a light rootbeer.. in the same realm as voyage d’hermes.theyre different from each other but both have the soda fizz kinda vibe. Both very good for summer and tropical countries where im from.it gets very warm and humid here in the Philippines so ideal cologne is perfect. For everyday/office scent. Last 5-6 hours mild projection. Im gonna keep this in my collection. It has some similarities with escada magnetism. A lighter day version.

I have not sampled the original L’Homme yet, but I get some comparisons with Habit Rouge L’Eau and YSL M7 Fresh and, to some extent, Dior Homme Cologne and Dior Privee Cologne Royale, and even Bvlgari Noorah.
L’Homme Cologne opens with a somewhat simplistic minty woody citrus accord: fresh, zesty and energetic, and is defininately pretty much in line with Dior Cologne Royale and Homme Cologne. In this sense, I might say it is more or less generic as the two Diors, but one thing should be noted is that L’Homme Cologne, in addition, has an unconventional twist which can be also seen in Habit Rouge L’Eau and YSL M7 Fresh (that filtered out the oud). Just think about Dior Cologne Royale, or a more refined version of Dior Homme Cologne, and take it as a base then blends it with a woody and resinous layer. Notice that it is of the same ideaology with New York by Patricia de Nicolai and, to be sure, L’Homme Cologne managed to forge a more radiant and crisp citrus note than New York did.
Besides, I can detect a touch of jasmine in the mid and a petitgrain nuance in the drydown although they are not listed in the pyramids. The jasmine in here combined with woody citrusy note makes it in the same vein with Habit Rouge L’Eau, just not that bold though. The petitgrain note, along with vetiver, signifies the masculine personality above the floral layer. This is actually one of the most classic and typical philosiphy of compostion in several strands of aromatic fragrances in 80-90s.
That being said, L’Homme is an extremely versatile and modern scent yet without much compromise in complexity.Rating: 7.5-8/10

After trying the EdP on a test strip, I though I should definitely check out the summer counterpart. So I got a sample. To me this opens up with a strong, synthetic grapefruit and just something that smells cheap. After a while, this scent tones down, but stays unlikable to my nose. Longevity and projection are average. Due to so many positive reviews, I conclude that L’Homme Ideal Cologne just does not agree with my skin, that is why everyone should test a fragrance and never blind buy.

My first impressions: Sprayed this earlier during the day in the late afternoon. It was hot/warm so it not a warm day scent. The smell was off puting. I smelt this kind of scent before. The beginning smells super alcoholic coming off as a generic pefume. But in the opening I do get the orange, zesty notes. Kinda of soft to be honest. The power is sort of lacking. It’s warm here in California so this is a cold/cool day scent. I don’t understand why people are saying this is a summer scent. Beats me.
Edit 10/9/18: Sprayed 4-5x. First blast is bergamot and alcohol(not as bright or sharp like Radiant Bergamot which is a terrible juice), stays citrusy as a skin scent then you get a soft and sweet almond vanilla. That’s it. Not a beast mode nor a moderate projection. Daytime/spring autumn cologne where temperature is around 80* fahrenheit.

It does have a Coca-Cola vibe. That is not a problem. It is actually high praise due to the complex and nuanced formula in Coke. Ideal Cologne is one of the few scents that really will work in hot and cold weather. It is spicy, but light. It is categorized as a citrus-woody, but to me it is a nutty-citrus. The woody feel to me gets a lot of its form from the almond note. The pink pepper spices the neroli tang and citrus top notes that last to dance with the musk all the way to the skin scent many hours later. When you get the spicy cola vibe during the drydown, it reinforces the impression of L’homme Ideal as a very complex and perfect scent.
I get all day scent from four sprays. I get light wafts 12-14 hours later. Sillage is arm’s length. Very pleasing for me when I wear it. I have received compliments from women aged 13 to 6. The 13 year old told me I smelled like a man she would want to date. I told her to demand quality from a man, and dare to buy him scents that make her happy, Like Ideal Cologne.

It took me a while to come around on this cologne. It was a blind buy, and I totally expected something different.
I thought this was going to be a gift from the fragrance gods. I like the original L’homme Ideal, although mostly the opening. And I figured, this is it, there’s no chance I fail on this blind buy. Musk and citrus mixed with a bit of L’homme Ideal? But I was in for a surprise.
It has the signature Guerlainade which is present right from the start. But it’s WAY spicier than the reviews make it out to be. It’s very close to Spicebomb Eau Fraiche. That kind of a thick-sweet spice. As it lingers in the air what you get is a mature sweet-citrus-spicy-Guerlainade. It smells half-dirty, half-fresh, and definitely spicy-sweet.
But when you sniff close, a whole other world opens up. It’s very good. The grapefruit note is one of the most real grapefruit I’ve smelled. It’s a joy to smell up close.
In the end, it’s not a cologne I often wear around others. This is more one for the at-home wear. It’s good but I’m certain that not everyone will appreciate it. It’s more “interesting” than it is “people pleasing”. It kind of has a stale heavy cologne-on-old-clothes-smell to it that I can’t quite put my finger on too. I was disappointed at first, and in some ways I still am. I enjoy wearing it but I wouldn’t rely on it to smell nice in an important situation. Never the less, it’s a quality fragrance that is cheap enough to enjoy for your own pleasure.

I love this fragrance. I blind bought it the day before I went to a weekend music festival with some friends and I fell in love with it immediately. It is the best blind buy I’ve had to date.
The opening is pure citrus with it drying down to a gorgeous almondy orange musk. I wore the fragrance all through-out that weekend and now every time I smell it brings me right back to then.
My only gripe about this fragrance is its performance. It It lasts about 2 hours on my skin and stops projecting after 30-45 mins which is a shame considering how incredible the scent is.
This fragrance makes me smile every time I smell it. It’ll always be one of my favourites.

To me this smells like L’homme ideal EDP diluted with high dose of citruses.
Same cherry coke vibe but with lemony twist. Grapefruit actually.
No neroli no vetiver and definitely with tonka.
It is nice and high quality but heavier and much sweeter than what you might think as a cologne.
Complements gitter for sure but not you typical summer refreshing citrus musk cologne.
alexck – :
First of all, this is an EDT. The ‘cologne’ reference is in name, only. And I actually feel that it performs like an EDT. For a mostly citrus scent, I’m getting decent performance. I wish I could say I pick up the creamy almond that several people have mentioned, but on my skin this is almost exclusively grapefruit and orange. Definitely nowhere near the amount you’ll get from it’s older brothers (Ideal & Ideal EDP). I really like this a lot as a warm weather fragrance. In the same family as Moschino Friends, which I used to reach for on a regular basis to give me my fresh-squeezed orange fix.
Ideal Cologne is one of the zestiest, most realistic grapefruit scents I’ve ever smelled. And of course, would you expect anything less from Guerlain?
resmadan – :
I’m a big fan of this modern uplifting release from Guerlain. I love the way the citrus works with the sweet almond and tonka base creating a beautifully bright and sweet composition. An excellent Summer type scent with decent longevity which fits a casual occasion perfectly.
I love the packaging and bottle design which also has a very generous sprayer which emits a beautiful delicate mist. The sprayer is the best I have encountered so far.
A great release which shows a great future for the house of Guerlain.

I really like this one. I enjoy the slightly bitter, moist and realistic grapefruit in the opening – with a slight hint of sophisticated Orange Tang. I’m especially enjoying the creamy almond and neroli that last and last.
The fresh drydown of this fragrance is perfect for the office or casual wearing – any season – but especially Spring/Summer. The musk, slightly sweet Tonka/Almond and creamy Neroli really blend together.
There is a refreshing moist citrus/orange element alongside an airy vetiver that keep the other notes from
