I didn’t want to write a very detailed review here. But I wanted to mention that although there are already many many rose/oud fragrances out there, I don’t tend to like them at all because they make mefeel like a sheikh in his late fourthies or something. But I think this one from Etro is somehow very different and I really like this one. It’s somehow not so heavy and dark as most oud fragrances are but much “lighter”. So it’s true there are many rose/oud frags out there but I think this one is somehow different from others and actually the only oud fragrance I really like.

I’m still on the lookout for a good, subtle skin scent and I thought something called ‘myself’ might be just that. It turns out nothing like that though, but it’s nice nonetheless 😀 Here goes:
When I warily smelled the cap it immediately smelled familiar. For the live of me, I can’t pinpoint what that familliar image is. It’s probably not reminding me of any object or situation, but more of a feeling. The feeling of familiarity was boosted by a strong fresh honey (not among the listed notes) that I’m getting upon first spritz on my blotting paper. It was gone within a minute and I was doubting if I had picked it up correctly, but after spraying some on my wrist, I definitely got the fleeting honey again. Not a heavy, oozing honey, but fresh, vivid, fruity honey. After the ethereal honey had flown away, my deja vu feeling was gone.
It settled into a rose and cedar perfume for me. I’m not very familiar with oud yet, so even though I’m probably detecting it, I can’t clearly identify it. However, I’m suspecting that it’s the oud that’s making this rose wearable for me. Rose has a tendency to turn sour and sharp on my skin. Not with this one. Perhaps the oud grounds it, gives a solid base to this otherwise lucid rose. Together with the cedar, which I’m often such a fan of, this became quite pretty.
It’s over 8 hours after moderate application and this is still going strong on my skin. I was just about to settle on my impression of this being a clear, lucid, cedary rose. Then I’m suddenly picking up something sweet and comforting. When I smell the blotter now, I’m getting a raisin like smell. Sweet, boozy and quite pleasant. On my skin this new aspect is warmer than on the blotter. No idea what that could be. I’m guessing the styrax or maybe labdanum.
All in all very nice. If only the opening lasted longer and the final notes kicked in earlier, this would be even more enjoyable for me.

Very nice, but very “been there done that”. This would be a great intro to rose/oud combo for someone who does not have one in their wardrobe. Very clean, smooth, safe rose/oud. The rose is not overpowering like in other pairings, and the oud not as sharp, animalic, nor gasolinish. It has a slight sweetness, just enough to take off any edges from the rose/oud affair.
If you have rose/ouds – montale, mancera, rasasi, amouage, arabian oud, etc. – i’m not sure you would be adding anything of import to your collection.

The House of Etro creates the most astonishing fashion and home decor products so I had high hopes for an oud from them.
    Yawn…..rose and oud…again……
    Cheers

Citrus opening with a dry point shooting would say to salty due to papyrus, to settle quickly on a oud-rose combo deal. Drying balsamic woodsy and especially more pleasant with slight nuances detergent and clean smell, but without losing that touch oud, so it would be a fairly westernized oud.
Io Myself, nothing new, is the typical Oud-rose as seen already in recent years, which makes it completely dispensable the perfumistico panorama.
And although the length is acceptable, projects very intimate and soft for what should be a Oud fragrance.
    I find loose and improvable

This one is a heavy and spicey affair with many notes to be discovered. Whether you think they go together well is open to your interpretation. However, I agree that there are similar affairs available. I quite enjoy this one nevertheless.

Oh dear. I so wanted to like this and Etro has done some great stuff. But this is a strange turkish rose-oud, very confused-smelling, with lots of notes which don’t work together, for at least an hour. Then it settles to a more powdery rose-oud, still pointless and not particularly pleasant. Meanwhile, my sinuses were complaining. IMO the bergamot seems out of balance with the rest. Had to bin it. Sorry 🙁

Another Black Afgano wannabe. Pretty, obnoxiously loud and addictive in a way. But to my humble opinion pointless and obsolete, because there are too many of them anyway. If you happen to be at the Etro shelve better go sniff Dianthus, Gomma or Magot.
