If any one asks me a perfume to purchase, I blindly suggest Hugo, it is one of the scents that EVERYBODY loves, it is kind of the standard scent in the perfume world, top notch.

If you want a nice fresh scent for the fall, I’d recommend giving Hugo For Men a sniff.
The opening is a very juicy minty apple accord with lavender. It’s a bit barbershop and very fresh.
It then gradually transform with hints of florals ramping up the barbershop effect, before drying down to an accord of lavender, apple and fir on top of hints of cedar.
Hugo For Men sounds more simplistic than it is. Wearing it really shows how good this stuff is.
It’s not a players scent. This is the fragrance of a man who has a more mature agenda. Not that this smells particular mature – a 20 year old could pull this off with no problems, but it’s more low-key and understated. It doesn’t exude luxury, instead it’s more of a man’s man scent. Think Charles Bronson for the 90s.
If Bottled is Hugo Boss’ masterpiece, then this is right behind.
Longevity is very good – 8-9 hours.

My number 1 or 2 most favorite fragrance the other being Polo Sport by Ralph Lauren. This is pretty much the perfume i have been wearing for the longest time and i really didn’t care if i get compliments or not, Although this gave me one of the most important compliments of my life. Basically after wearing this consistently for years and years i decided to stop using it for about 3 years and just recently i bought a bottle and use it, my wife gave me the sweetest compliment by saying that the way i smelled brings her back to our early years as a couple. 🙂 I reverted back saying i have been wearing this one for so long because i love it and i want to impress you by smelling this one on me but i didn’t get a single response from you till now only ahahahaha! So i guess to compensate from that every time i wear this she will always say hhmmm… i smell you and your bringing back memories…

I can say in that year (1995) it was leading in modern-day styles by lunching this fragrance. It still has lots of fans. Me is one of them lol

    Two words
    Freshness overload.

Sharp and airy. Smells like an apple and pine tree hand sanitizer. Very sharp for the first two hours, pleasant for the next two hours after which it becomes too subtle to notice.
Not bad by any means, you can do a lot worse for the price as this one is pretty safe and unoffensive.

This was a regular for me in my twenties.
nice unique fresh scent back then.
takes me back to when I had an office job caught the train into the city and wore a suit.

All-year round scent for running errands. My go-to fragrance when dressed casually and there’s no particular special occasion.

A girls review on YouTube described it as Popourri.
    That was completely correct. Popurri.

Definitely a men’s fragrance. The accords are right, this feels big though, it’s got oomph.
It goes more of a clear wood as the hours pass.
Good, solid fragrance, it’s a bit humid summer hear which might be why I felt it was a bit much for right now. Autumn and winter might yield differently

One of my first fragrances I purchased. An easygoing, classic fresh scent that performs great in the spring and summer months. It’s undertones leave a nice spicy vibe that are inviting towards all. The sillage and longevity on Hugo is decent and this one definitely gets compliments, I remember the lady at the fragrance store advised this one to me!

Another high quality release from Hugo Boss, and one that I don’t see talked about too often. Perhaps because it was a 1995 release that was quickly overshadowed a few years later by the release of Boss Bottled. But it should not be forgotten.
The first few minutes of the opening are fruity sweet (apple and mint), but even the opening sweetness is heavily shaded with the dominant “green spice” accord that is the real signature of this fragrance.
That core is made up of basil, cedar, fir, and patchouli, and the fruitier notes just sort of dance around the edges of this spicy heart.
But at the heart of that heart, at the core of that core, is the lavendar, and that’s what makes this fragrance just shine. The lavendar is the bridge between the apple-mint and the patchouli-cedar, and it’s a perfectly balanced transitional element.
This fragrance also performs like a champ, lasting 8-10 hours regularly on my skin.
Don’t forget about this gem from Hugo Boss.

One of my first colognes, from pre 2000 era, purchased it when it first came out. Great stuff, not as good as some newer colognes but unique and brings me back in time.

After more than two decades, probably still one of my favorite freshies next to Tom Fords Amalfi Mandarin and Le Labo Bergamote which however cost nearly ten times as much. Its just a positive scent, fresh and light spring air a very natural and silky scent of mint and lavender.

I got this a long time ago, and it seemed nice back then. It’s sort of a young mans scent, with the apple and light fresh sort of fragrance. There is a touch of cedar giving some light spice. for my impressions, it is for a guy maybe 20 or 22 years old who just got his first office job.

i have this since the year 2006.
Manly sweet but still, i can smell kindda fresh morning air.
Good projection but not so strong to disturb.
Sure this is the gem to attract attention…
I Used during cold evening time…Best blend in me.

Timless classic from Hugo Boss. Fresh, green, flowery-pine scent, good for everyday use. It’s bit sythetic, but I like it. As most of the perfume which came from the Hugo house, not an outstanding fragrance but very wearable and safe. The opening is wonderful, in the top I can smell most of the notes, but the apple-lavender-mint combination is the dominant. The first 10-15 minutes are great, but after the scent going to bit unpleasent. The mid notes are too soapy-flowery, this part of the fragrance is not too good, but few hours later changing again and I’ll get a cool base with the fir and cedar. My biggest problem, unforunatelly I can’t get great longevity, maybe just 5 hours on my skin… even so safe and clear stuff, I like it…
    – spring/summer scent for daytime
    – sillage is bit over the average, but longevity is moderate, 5 hours
    – Safe blind buy
    Scent (open, top-mid): 7.5/10 (x2)
    Scent (drydown, base): 8/10 (x2)
    Sillage: 6/10
    Longevity: 5/10
    Uniqueness: 7/10
    Versatility: 8/10
    Total: 7.125/10

I liked this scent however do you know are there any website that shows the harms levels of ingredients of the product such as ewg.org/skindeep, but this ones ingredients is lack and web site indicated as old formulation.
Because I saw this it includes paraben and I could not be sure for using it.

It was the mid 90’s icon.
I wear it for long time and I returned back again. It is a refreshing citrus and sharp patchouli scent

Bought this because I loved the smell of it in the store… 1 month later, I absolutely hate this scent – so synthetic, so cheap, gives me a headache everytime.
Boy did I learn my lesson!
I assume this is a result of it being the reformulation so I’d be willing to give the original another go

This summer is my favorite !!!
    Pleasant juice …
It has a classic line of the 90s but still has a more lovelier and wearable fragrance.
I like it classic and yet modern! Apples are overwhelming! I think this is a total “green” scent that never goes out of fashion!
Suitable for everyday refreshment! I think it is comfortable for any age group.
Sometimes I find sales and I have to be in my collection and this is a great buy!
I feel good when I get this scent!

  24. :

    Fresh spicy sums it up.
    Fir, pine, basil, apple.
This reminds me of a particularly hot summer I spent in Sweden – it was perfect for southern Sweden somehow.
A completely refreshing pick me up day fragrance.
It should always be in your wardrobe for everyday.

So this was my signature fragrance back in the 90’s. Back then I only had a bottle or two in my bathroom cabinet, and this was one of them. I remember I liked this one ok. I even got compliments.
I just recently revisited it, and now it’s horrible, horrible. I can’t understand that I ever liked this fragrance. It almost made me sick to my stomach. So much my taste have changed in a few years.

  26. :

The marketing of this fragrance is way off. You won’t feel like an urban 90s douchebag kid with fugly sunglasses wearing this. You’ll feel like a lumbersexual man with a well-groomed beard cutting wood by the cabin. Uber-masculine and kind of old school, in the sense that it is much more masculine and classic than most new releases.
I think this is a great, safe fragrance that you can use everyday to work. Or, you know, doing macho things by the cabin.

Hugo has been a favorite of mine since the year it was released and has always been in my spring/summer/fall rotation. The year I got my first bottle was a great year for me so I will always have great memories associated with it which makes it even more enjoyable when I wear it now. Also it still gets it’s fair share of compliments.

My bottle is from 2009. This reminds me of Escape for Men, but I think this one smells a bit better. I’d rather wear something with notes that are clearer and more “natural smelling,” though. And if I want a “fresh” or warm weather scent I generally go for ones like Blenheim Bouquet. I might wear it one more time and then put it up for swap, but to me this is one of those scents that I don’t dislike, but I know I’d rather wear something else instead.

At first, I would’ve never picked myself to be a Hugo Boss fan, but then I smelt this, and my goodness am I glad I did! Quite a masculine scent that, really, could be used in almost any situation. A great “safe” option for a blind buy and a definite “go-to” in my collection. Easily a 9 out of 10.

i was in a fragrance store and smelled many perfumes. Then a employee showed me this fragrance and i was impressed. I decided to buy it.
But now when my nose was not affected by other fragrances i am not at all satisfied with the scent.
I would even consider this as a regret buy now.
Now i can’t tell what amazed me about this fragrance the first time…
    Too synthetic for me.

I been using Hugo for 10 years.. I did get a bit fed up of it about 6 years ago.
I still have half of a bottle from 2006, just bought another bottle now 2016..
So the 206 Hugo lasts over 12+ where the 2016 bottle I be lucky if I get 5 hours…
    I won’t be replacing it!

This is a classic legend which still rules out today. Its a very clean fresh and very manely and mature scent.Best for office wear.I can clearly smell apple aroma and lots of it.The 80’s and 90’s perfumes were the power houses and so does this.Sillage and lasting power are good.I always get complements when i wear it but most of them are from men.I recommend it for all seasons this is a safe scent.
    Scent 8.5/10
    Silage 8/10
    Longevity 8.5/10….Peace…

perfect for work, last all shift, inviting but not sexy. Very clean and fresh, above average performance especially for this group of fragrance. Day time for sure. Primarily a spring / summer scent but Can be worn any season due to its good performance. Any occasion but personally i wouldnt wear it on a date only because i have better options for that purpose. This is the Scottie Pippen of fragrances, great in every area but the best in none.

One of my favorite scents that I’ve ever come across. For me it’s a personal thing, it’s very nostalgic because this was very popular when I was in high school, it conjures up a lot of great memories.
There were a lot of scents that were popular back then but this is the one that stuck out for me. It’s bright, clean, fresh and masculine. I still rock this and I love this just as much now as I did back then. If they ever discontinue this I will hoard a bunch of bottles, I don’t ever want to be without this.

Hugo by Hugo Boss is a staple in my vast fragrance collection. This is the perfect Swiss Army fragrance it just works for any and all settings. It’s a crowd pleaser that does it’s job well. Hugo won’t blow anyone away but it will be well received by all who smell this on you.

Fragrance of my youth 🙂 this was the first “real” perfume I used, and I used it for many years in my late teens. Got a chance to smell it again now 15 years after I stopped using and it is an quite nice fragrance in the end, I was expecting it to be a lot worse to be honest, didn’t trust my teenage sense of smell I guess.
Nothing I’d go out and buy now but it’s a nice fresh scent that doesn’t have anything really special about it, just smells nice, good for a casual wearer. Most people are not like us here at fragrantica with 30+(++) bottles of fragrances, multiple for every occasion and mood 🙂 And I would rather smell this on someone than some AXE deo or something like that..
So I’d give this an 5/10, doesn’t stand out in any way, inoffensive, fresh well, generic…

Haters gonna hate but Hugo Boss Hugo is greatest summer male fragrance of all times. This is to go to cologne only Tommy Hilfiger Tommy is better in my opinion but when but I have been using Hugo since 1995 and is better than many other overpriced stuff around.
Hugo should only be sprayed 3 times. 1.on neck 1. On chest and 1.on back of neck and it would be enough for 16 hours.
    Overall 9/10

  47. :

Smells good at the initial stage.. but disappears so quickly.. huge disappointment

  48. :

    3 out of 5

I’ll be honest. I’m not a fume head. This was a blind buy at something like $20 for 30 mL. I sprayed it and all I could think of was: PLUM. That’s it. PLUM.
Why did I think that? I have NO idea, and I still don’t, but I’ve stopped caring. It’s smells GOOD. Nothing on No. 6 of course, but good enough. For me, this is more of a “smartly dressed” casual evening fragrance. Nothing fancy, but get the shoes right. Great performance.
Imagine: Walking through Toronto’s High Park in the early fall. The sun is just setting, but you’re not in a hurry. The soft scarf around your neck feels nice as it moves with the wind. A friend calls out your name and you go to join them at a nearby bench. The discussion involves relationships.
Think: Smooth, Green, Elegant, Smart, Casual
    Overall: 7/10 – Longevity like a Bawss.

im not sure what to think of this. yes, its synthetic but in a masculine way. Like many of the 90s fragrances were.
i remember picking up a hitchhiker a while back, and i reckognized this fragrance on him, and i thought he had made the worst fragrance choice ever. He was an average guy, and the fragrance didnt match his personality at all.
at the same time, it was perfect for him. little to no personality. smelled clean and general.
thats whats so hard about this fragrance. it fits most people, but only brings out positive things to a handful of them.
this doesnt suit the colder months. its too fresh.
its more of a spring fragrance type, but it still doesnt suit warm clothing.
Its so fresh. so energetic, and powerful that its better to use it during the summer on days where youre outside all day.
like put on 1 spray in the morning before u hit the beach, and just let it fade in with saltwater, sunscreen etc.
and if youre going out later that night, then 1 spray on bare chest and sweat it out while clubbing. as little cloth as possible.
thats what i think of it.

I would never, ever use it now but it used to be my favourite fragrance in High School! Such a great, fresh and masculine juice. I guess now I like oriental and sweet fragrances more, but I would recommend it to teens and guys in their early 20s.

Given to me as a gift long ago. It was definitely fresh (superfresh – like clean linens and cut grass) , with some notes I like (mint, pine , lavender etc.) but it also smelled synthetic and very department store generic. I kept it around for a long time and eventually got rid of it, as it deteriorated over time: definitely a use it or lose it fragrance.
I can picture the average person liking this, but not loving it. If you love it, well, cool beans.

I just got this in the mail and I like it. Very nice scent to wear to work or out. I can`t put my finger on what it smells like, but it is masculine, clean, and fresh. Almost kind of soapy in a good way. I only used 1 spray on my wrist and it`s strong after 2 hours. Good for any age, and for work, school, or play.

This is another great fragrance, in a lovely bottle. Simple and eloquent. In their days Issey Miyake and this caused a storm. It is very clean, and limey with asea breeziness to it. You certainly can’t go wrong, however therein lies its downfall, almost everyone sports this fragrance and that is a shame.

Mmmm…This is a great, solid , casual fragrance for men. I have ALWAYS loved to smell it. Smells amazing, fresh, slightly spicy and slightly fruity. I love when my boyfriend wears this. I cant help but want to hug him and just breathe this in when he wears it. It’s one of my favorites in his collection. Yes, it’s nothing groundbreaking but a it’s great everyday scent or even a casual date scent. Good one to have in your collection fellas. Women will love it. A modern CLASSIC.

Best to keep the review simple. This is a great perfume to wear and is unlikely to offend anyone. Its a great smell to give a good impression. I would say its lightly spicy and wears well on skin. Nothing amazing but is easily wearable

  66. :

    This one is very underrated.
Sure it isn’t a masterpiece, but it’s a nice everyday fragrance, that smells very nice and lasts all day.
The opening is apple, mint and lavender, accented by notes of basil and citrus.
The lavender and apple stays throughout the duration of the fragrance. Shortly after the top notes are complimented mainly by notes of cedar, fir and sage.
This one is a bit synthetic, and isn’t the easiest fragrance to pick the notes out of, as they all blend together in one big block of scent.
Overall I am pleasantly surprised by this one. To put it simply, it just works. It doesn’t matter if it’s cold or warm, it compliments the weather.
Longevity is good – 7-8 hours with good projection.
    Rating: 8/10.

  67. :

    4 out of 5

Great fresh aromatic fragrance!! BUT I think the geranium or carnation notes gives me headaches. But apart from that ” a great summer night fragrance” but too intense for day wear, I would say.

  68. :

    5 out of 5

A light fruity floral woody-spicy. The fruity is kinda apple, but not really, I say grapefruit is more like it, but also apple, light floral at the same time but not sure what type, then it turns more into cedar spiciness. Good for the office, or daily use, but it’s pretty juvenile, or amateur.
So I had it, (and still have some left) from my very early 20’s. Not my style anymore. To be honest, I didn’t even wear it much. This is for someone in their very early 20’s or even younger. It’s not grown up. I like more complex, masculine, non-fruity non-sporty scents. In other words I need luxury, elegance, class, grown up or amazing fragrances.

  69. :

    5 out of 5

From the opening you get that fresh Apple vibe along with some spicy, woody notes. It does eventually feel a little “soapy” but overall I would say that this is pretty linear. Honestly the first spray is the best part for me. After about an hour it starts to feel synthetic and kind of annoying. 2-3 sprays and that’s it. Don’t over spray or you will be the “cologne guy” with this one. Age group for this I would say 18-35. Good for after gym shower or just lounging. Not really formal at all to me. It’s too laid back and almost sporty. It does project pretty well for the first little bit and seems to last for quite a while. It’s also quite inexpensive, so if you’re on a budget and just want to smell fresh, this is perfect. I give this 6/10.

My husband wanted this for Xmas but I couldn’t source it for love or money. I’ve just found a reputable supplier with oodles of old stock, just in time for our wedding anniversary. I love Obsession and I too wear the EDP but hells bells I would be pleased to sniff something other than Obsession on my husband. Do they still manufacture Hugo Men in the USA/Europe? Here in Africa it’s really becoming hard to source.

Well…this one is a little bit artificial. I use it only at days with sun shining but not a too hot day… The lasting is very good, about 10 hours.
    Scent:6/10
    Projection: 8/10
    Longevity: 9/10

My father wore this one for ever when I was growing up, actually still wearing now. He loves it. Every time I smell it I think of him and growing up and reliving all those memories. So for that I love this one. I always will. Something about it smells so simple yet nice at the same time. Beauty in simplicity I suppose. A very good everyday scent when you can’t decide what to wear. Classic from Hugo.

I’m surprised by some of the negative reviews here – so much so, that I wonder who in the world could actually hold such opinions about this modern classic.
The truth is that Hugo Boss for Men is a fresh, striking, unique, and powerfully attractive fragrance. It will be around for a long, long time. I’ve had it in my collection for seventeen years, and while I wear very little at a time, I’ve had a million compliments on it from women. Definitely a babe magnet-type cologne: it says, “I’m having a great time in my life”. I would say this is a “young” scent, especially good for men under 35.

I like the fragrance but the only bad thing about this one is that it leaves bad yellow stains on white shirts which never get cleaned after many washes 🙁
So I can only wear this on my dark colored clothes.

I think it smells like a synthetic apple with a bit of flowery scent. That is not a bad combination. The longevity is okay, i usually spray about 5-7 sprays and after 6 hours cant smell it. The sillage is moderate. Hugo colognes are early-to-mid-luxury designer juices. They’re not super expensive nor cheap. I recommend.

I been using Hugo Boss for men over 10 years, I love it!

I revisited this after only having a sample in my college days. It’s good. Yes, synthetic, but you know what? It’s still a good daily choice. Inexpensive and fresh. 🙂
It’s decently tough stuff and lasts 8 hours or so. First hour it projects 4 feet or so and gradually decreases by the hour.
I think it’d be a good blind buy if you want a summer frag to wear daily.

I’m probably going to offend a LOT of people here, but as a woman, I wore this just to do something different and I had men asking me what I was wearing all the time. So, what can I say, except, apparently, men think it smells great on a woman.

This cologne is very masculine, its different, doesnt smell like any other, very unique. The notes are fantastic, the lavender is so well blended with the apple notes and other spices. Really really well done. The silage is really good it projects like a beast and will last you most of the day. Definitely something to add to your collection. 7/10

My brother own this perfume and I use it sometimes when there is nothing else around. I don’t really like it though. It starts a bit offensive and smells like someone is sweating for a bit then it gets better. It never gets really cool though.
It’s not fresh as some reviews suggest (in my opinion). It’s just intense and daring.

At first, I didn’t like it. Not to say I hate it, but I preferred Hugo boss No.6. After few times wearing it, I found it very interesting. It projects well and has good sillage. It may be funny, but I like to spray perfumes in my hair. In the days that I spray it in my hair, I like to occasionally stand under fan or air-conditioner 😀
Caution: Do not go for more than 4 sprays

Heard from a good friend and bought it..enjoyable and decent evryday scent, have slight warmish and light spicy quality which imo performs equally well in evening.

A good friend of mine gave me a bottle of this back in 99 because he started wearing curve and thought this was beneath him now…lol…. I am so glad he did because I loved it and have gone through a few bottles since. I am almost out and ready for some more. This is a very versatile fragrance and all my girfriends over the years have told me that this is their favorite on me and i have over 20

A sportwear frag ! Fresh & aromatic, it is classical though, maybe due to its popularity in France.
Very easy to wear, it fits well for any male.

Men, listen to me: DON’T. It is a cheap boyish smell.

  93. :

    4 out of 5

It doesn’t smell fresh, spicy, floral, interesting, intriguing, original or even natural. It smells like a hodge-podge of synthetic notes which I suppose *could* be an apple, or mint or lavender if one exercised a suspension of disbelief. But to me it’s just a jumble of unidentifiable smelly things.
It’s just sort of generic and BLAH.
It could work for a very young man, I suppose; the ad video suggests that. A young man who is handsome enough or wealthy enough not to need to smell especially interesting.

A fresh, long-lasting, watery scent that has some strange overpowering quality, when a guy wearing this is in the room, everyone knows about it. It reminds me of the Lynx deodorant range, so I feel it’s best suited to a teenage boy, definitely out of place on a grown man.

this was my high school boyfriend’s scent back in the 90s. i loved it then and though i don’t love it as much now, it’s attached to nice memories. i certainly don’t hate the scent, i am pretty neutral about it, it just isn’t my favorite like it was then. i remember it being clean but spicy, inoffensive and just a nice all around scent.

Probably the most versatile men’s fragrance out there. Adapts to your skin whatever the occasion and just smells fantastic. should always be in your waredrobe for any case when u don’t know what to wear. easily a signature scent. Don’t think just buy it!!!

I like the fragrance, but it is difficult to use this perfume. It is strong and cloying for everyday use and does not have the elegance to a date, a meeting or night use. I have it but can not find propitious occasions to use it. It’s a shame.

Definitely not unisex and definitely not fresh. Very green and sweet, imagine the smell of trees after the train. I had to sell this on eBay because it was just too manly, many people on here said it was refreshing but i find it very cloying and synthetic. It smelt ok on my brother but nothing special.

I really think that a lot of people have negative reviews on Hugo Boss is because of its popularity and just like what is happening with Acqua di Gio. Hugo and Acqua are both popular to regular consumers and a lot of people are buying these colognes because they smell good to them.
Most people are giving these colognes bad reviews not because they smell bad, it’s because they’re so common and we always know somebody that
