Description

“Molecule instead of mass: “Less” is often “more” in the world of perfumes. At the heart of Escentric Molecules 04 is the molecule Javanol, which takes sandalwood into a new dimension. Molecule 04 contains pure Javanol, Escentric 04 surraunds it with aromas of grapefruit, juniper, osmanthus, rose, matic and galbanum.” – a note from the brand.

The nose behind this fragrance is Geza Schoen.
The new Escentric 04 comes out in March 2017.

Refreshing strong citrus! Smells quite bitter on my skin, but I love that it’s not too sweet. Perfect for hot summer day, beach holidays..

I received a free manufacturer’s sample of this with a luckyscent order. I’d never tried the brand before. I notice I’m more drawn to perfumes with poetic, historical or visual associations, rather than technical-based explorations and numbered names. That said, smelling Escentric 04, I understand there is a strong concept behind it.
The first grapefruit blast has sweet and sour aspects to me. I pick up sticky macerated juice and bitter pith, chemically amplified. The most interesting phase of the fragrance is the transition between grapefruit and Javanol. It’s like being shown the bridge between the two elements: grapefruit’s underlying woodiness. I don’t really have words for that linkage, but the closest would be cinnamon bark.
It must be when the geranium and juniper comes in, but the next stage of the fragrance has a strong association for me—my dad’s CK Eternity for Men, which is A+ on him. However, that cologne is more well-blended. Escentric 04 is a blocky composition by design.
I start to feel overpowered by the masculine woodiness, and scrub, but 04 steamrollers the Eau de Guerlain I try to cover it with. The combination of the two is a synthetic, cyborg Niki de Saint Phalle. This one’s not for me, but I can respect it. I still prefer my father’s Eternity though.

My first impressions on this fragrance are that there is an unexpected citrus note. Unexpected in the sense that it is unexpectedly authentic and quality. The sharpness and juiciness reminds me of Hermès Terre D’hemes Eau Tres Fraiche. The smell is closest to Atelier Cologne’s Pomelo Paradis. The sandalwood is very present, but in the background. I can detect a hint of rose, but nothing that would deter anyone who isn’t into rose, the rose is a beautiful accent to the composition. I want to see Robes08 review this, I have a feeling that this could make a top 10 list. This is a spontaneous review, so I don’t have much to say about performance, but projection is pretty light. This is supposed to be one of those scents that is hard to detect for some and overly intrusive to others. I have experience with Escentric 01 and from my testing I can conclude that this is longer lasting. This one lasted overnight and E 01 didn’t as far as I could tell. I am so impressed with this fragrance and despite others saying that it is harsh, I would say that it is inoffensive and easy to wear. I may update this review in the future, but for right now this is top 5 out of my 60+ collection, that really means something.

This is definitely a great fragrance, I got a very harsh alcohol smell on the initial spray but it soon disappears and it smells a lot like the dry down of Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche.
Beasty performance but very light and inoffensive to smell as with the whole Escentric range.
Escentric 01 is my favourite but 04 is now my second favourite which used to be 03. Make sure you’re ready for all the compliments to start flowing in!

Of the four (so far), this orange floral is the least objectionable.

This reminds me a little bit of Timbuktu by L’Artisan. I like it. Light. Fresh.

Very underrated fragrance. I find it very strange that it only score 3,33 in the writing moment. From my own experience ( and reviewers such as carlos, steven, fragrance bros), escentric 04 is a very solid fragrance. Its very pleasing, fresh grapefruit-ish smell. Very lovely and versatile. And its a compliment monster. I dont understand the current rating.
For me it gets 8,5/10 and its still growing on me.

Scent – woody with a sweet acidic persistence.
Season/Time of Day – I prefer to use this one in the colder months, day or night.
    Projection – I did get noticed, I didn’t get a compliment.
    Longevity – I get 24hrs consistently.

I have to admit, it does get compliments. I am told it is not offensive at all. I can only pick up part of it on myself.
The more I wear it the more that I like it, The other day in a sales meeting a woman coworker who was sitting close to me passed me a note asking what I was wearing? I have tried Molecule 01 the original with not many comments .. eccentric 03 was slightly better that way , 04 has been the most liked so far. worth a sniff.

ugh so here we go , i am guilty of leaving really bad reviews about perfumes i dislike and this brings me to escentric 04 i read so many ugly reviews than honestly i was really expecting something acrid and resembling a urinal cake , WRONG !
what i got was an inoffensive citrus , clean , lovely musky perfume that i would love to wear !
so in the future i will be more mindful about the way i review perfumes because what may smell like a urinal cake for some, may be my dream fumes !

I’ve smelled this or molecule 04 on a Russian customer recently and I was mesmerized by this smell. I’ve asked her what she’s wearing… She said molecule 04…but I guess it was escentric 04 because I could clearly smell also the lemon/grapefruit…
My hair on the back of my head raised each time she was walking thru the shop where I’m working… It was so fresh but oriental (strong and deep) in the same time for me… I initially thought that she has some oud type of perfume on. Funny thing… One of my colleagues found it totally repulsive… She described it as very strong and somehow sweet… O was shocked… For me it wasn’t at all sweet. What we both agreed upon was that it was very strong and left a trail behind her… Awesome sillage.
After finishing my shift went to a perfume department and asked for molecule 04…i couldn’t smell almost nothing…. I tried also escentric 04and yeah… This one I could smell it… But only the opening notes… The juniper and lemon /grapefruit. These notes stay with me for 3-4 hours…. But no javanol (the fantastic sandalwood I was smelling on my customer). I still bought the perfume (escentric 04) but until now I still can only smell the opening notes… No trace of javanol. I learned that this javanol is so strong that one’s nose can’t perceive it a lot of times… Also until now my friends can only smell the citrus and juniper notes on me.
Does one of u go thru this thing too? If yeah, do other people notice on your skin the smell of sandalwood too?! I know that one’s skin can also change the smell of a perfume too… But I would be a bit disappointed if my skin would be not compatible to this fantastic javanol note.

I both love and hate this house. Love it because it sticks out, it’s cool, casual and sensual. Most offerings smell very good! Hate it because it doesen’t give me the lovely wafts I love when I wear it myself. I rarely smell any of them on my own skin.
I know a couple of people who wear many of these and the sillage is enormous, even though you don’t smell it up close that much.
No. 4 is different. I smell it fine on myself. And I love it. For it simplecity, easy to wear and fresh take one sandalwood. The citrus just goes on and on on my skin, which is rare, but here it smells so fresh an like real peel from a lemon or grapefruit.
This is clearly unisex, but a great alternative for all the guys out there looking for a casual sporty fragrance instead of all the designer «sports, l’eau and colognes».
I will peobably end up bying this when my sample runs out.

Just received my bottle of Molecule 04 and it’s incredible! The soft Sandalwood brought on by the Javanol along with the soft citrus balsamic notes makes for fabulous scent. definitely unisex!

Sydneyman nailed it… smells like cheap bathroom deodorizer… Very generic. Nothing I would spend my hard earned money on.

Goodness gracious! I am totally in love with this perfume! Gorgeous, warm fragrance! Just can’t stop smelling it on my wrist. Tried mixing it with EM1 and still was nice. I think they just getting better and better. Lasts forever on me.

    Freshly sandalwood, grapefruits, and juniper.
    Nothing so special so far.

Escentric 04 is amazing. The ingredients especially the Javanol are extremely high quality and this is immediately obvious. Do not listen to the ridiculous negativity on here. This is an out of this world fragrance with incredible performance, projection, and sillage. Nothing else out there smells anything like this. I’m constantly getting asked what I’m wearing by both men and women with this stuff on and no it does not smell synthetic.

  19. :

On my skin this is a sour, unpleasant synthetic fruit. It remained quite linear and has decent longevity.
It reminds me of a cheap smelling supermarket fruity deodorant spray a teenage girl would wear (Impulse if you are in Australia).
Definitely give this a full wear before you consider purchasing.

I got a sample of this one at Exscent exhibition in Milan, from Geza Schoen in person (ok, I admit I was flattered). I’m in love with Escentric 01 and 02 (I even like the celery like trail this last one leaves on my skin for all day), but unfortunately Escentric 04 was a disappointment. It opens beautifully, with a strong but still balanced citrusy note, then something happens and out of a sudden my skin started to smell like grapefruit rubbed on a solar lotion covered body. I mean, the change really is sudden!
Luckily I always use tiny amounts of fragrance on me ( I don’t want my perfume to be overwhelming, just want a light scent hug let’s say) so I saved myself from running to the sink trying to scrub off the grapefruit thing.
I don’t think the fault is entirely about the fragrance itself: my skin is quite fussy with this kind of scent and it prevents me from enjoying some perfumes.
I think that the “try it before buying it (allowing an hour to develop)” is vital for this one.

Opens with a harsh, sharp citrus that almost came across as pure alcohol – had that kind of nose-burning feel to it. That dissipated almost immediately though, and left me with the Javanol. So, sandalwood. Lots of sandalwood. Initially it was pleasant, but it eventually became cloying and overwhelming and I ended up scrubbing it off. I’d hardly even call the transition linear – it was more of a single point. Too strong, too synthetic, no depth or nuance. As others have pointed out, this line relies very heavily on body chemistry, so no doubt mileage will vary. I definitely wouldn’t pay money for this, and probably wouldn’t even wear it as a gift.

Interesting and not unpleasant but I wouldn’t wear it. I hear these EM scents are comparatively individualized (moreso even than most frags). Fwiw:
Starts out with blast of galbanum (earthy) + faint fragrant woods + faint aquatics.
Morphs into a plasticky note + lemons (about equal intensity) + faint juniper (smells vaguely medicinal here).
    The plasticky note isn’t offensive.
Stays like that (plastic/lemons/faint medicinal juniper) indefinitely.
Like I said, interesting – but I wouldn’t wear it

Like Molecule 04, I hate the javanol. It starts out wonderful with grapefruit and juniper. As soon as I can smell the javanol, I want to puke. I ended up taking rubbing alcohol and removing as much of it from my skin as possible and put on something strong and long lasting to cover it up.
This was part of a sample pack of the entire Escentric Molecule line that I purchased from LuckScent.

It took a few wearings but it really grew on me. It has this creamy sandalwood/rose feel to it. It is very different to me and cannot compare it to anything really but I am anticipating it being a compliment getter.

This is a cannabis-free version of Kinski by Kinski. No wonder since the perfumer is the same – Geza Schoen.

Disgusting, annoying, cloying, not original. I smelled this before but can’t finger point it. It’s loud, and a run to the sink to scrub it off. I just sprayed a tiny bit. It clings to your skin for long hours. Almost made me want to throw up. Maybe it’s that pertinent weird citrus note (I like citrus notes but not this one). Oh well, it was a sample, thanks me for that. I love Kinski. This does not resemble Kinski or whatsoever, in my opinion, of course.

  27. :

Transparent, modern woody floral with a citrus opening. Very nicely done, reminds me a lot of Kinski without the cannabis note. Safe for work, but not invisible – definitely the sort of thing that will get you compliments.

This is so sharp, do not apply more than 1 squirt. It start with grapefruit notes and quickly turns into linear sour harsh turpentine. It will last all day and it’s sweaty sour note will cling even longer. 0/10

Just received my sample. I think it’s absolutely beautiful, most of the escentric molecules fragrances work so well with my skin, first spray right away I get this citrus fruity blast which turns into a sort of a sweet lemon smell. I am a massive fan of this fragrance line apart from molecules 2 I think it is. The one which smells of burning rubber. But this is stunning on my skin!!! Keep them coming

Tried Escentric 04. Nice, but that’s a typical pink fruity floral fragrance that you can find in the section of womens designers perfumery. On a feminine side.
A lot of candy grapefruit at the beginning, than some peony flowers and Javanol at the end. However, it’s not a Javanol bomb, it is used in the conventional amount.

Slightly watery, a citrus floral woody. Leans a bit on the feminine side. Sandalwood underlines the whole composition. Pretty long lasting. Not a fan myself, but not a bad fragrance.
Reminds me of: Still life, Olfactive Studios

Honestly, it’s too citrusy for me; reminded me of their Escentric 1&2, but more tart–I prefer 02.

Its about Skin Chemistry, Im sure theres a lot of people who got along with ISO E Super, so if you are one of the lucky ones, Good for You!!! I bought Molecule 04 and Escentric 04, I watch two videos on Youtube, I never experience with ISO E Super on my Skin, so I request to send me samples of Molecule 01/02/04 and Escentric 01/02/04. I love Sandalwood so my first desire was to test Escentric 04 since is more Complex and have more ingredients, I sprayed on my chest, both Pulse Points, but no more than 30 minutes the whole Citrus from the Grapefruit was gone after the opening, I was waiting so hard to smell the fantastic Sandalwood, Well the Juice went to skin scent and stayed on my skin for no more than an hour, I was disappointed so after that I applied Unscented Body lotion on my whole body, I reapplied again, nothing, same reaction. I woke up this morning took a shower, applied Unscented Body lotion again, I sprayed Escentric 04 on my 3 favorite spots on my body, after an Hour I smelled nothing, I reapplied again, and my whole body smells like I just rubbed grapefruit on my skin. This is my opinion, my experience on my skin, It could be different reaction with some other kind of skin but I have bad chemistry with some of the beauties out there, besides both 04 never blew me away, I will do the same with 01 and 02 with the 2 offerings Escentric and Molecule to see what happened but so far I will have to return both boxes, thanks God I request for samples of both because I will say this until the last day of my Fragrance Journey, Sample Matters!!!!!!!

Joeymaz doesn’t know what he’s talking about….The fragrance lasts and lasts…It’s what happens when you’re not used to ISO-E….It’s my new summer fave. It’s got this fizzy, citrus woodsy scent that is truly addicting….I plan on getting a lot of compliments with this one….
