Description

Guerlain launches Shalimar Souffle de Parfum as a new interpretation of the classic oriental fragrance Shalimar from 1925, or, better to say, its modern version. Perfumer Thierry Wasser gave a new breath to this legendary scent through a sensual, sparkling and precious interpretation Shalimar Souffle de Parfum that comes in a blue bottle.

The scent is a delicate floral oriental. It opens with fresh and light citrus aromas of lemon, bergamot and mandarin. Indian Sambac jasmine and orange blossom water absolute make its sparkling floral heart. Vanilla from Tahiti and from India form the base together with white musk.

The fragrance is available as 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

Shalimar Souffle de Parfum was launched in 2014.

Based on the notes and reviews here, I really thought I would like this, or even love this. Usually I adore the combination of vanilla, citrus and white florals. And it got even better, when I read that this would be creamy, like a creamy lemon cake. And then came the comparisons to Lancome Hypnose, which is one of my all time favourite night/winter time scents.
The original Shalimar never suited me, but this sounded so promising. But on my skin this is just pure musk and citrusy spiciness, and the white florals are far too sharp.
Glad I tested before buying. The house of Guerlain is very high on my list of both vintage and modern days perfume houses, if not the highest, but I guess I will have to leave at least all the Shalimars, Samsaras and LPRNs for those whom they suit better than me.

I smell a chocolate note. This is reminiscent, to my nose, of a more grown up Vera Wang Princess. I don’t smell much vanilla but that could change. I do love Princess but I was hoping for more of the creamy lemon everyone else gets. I’ll update as the day goes.

As I could find no shop to test it, I blind bought it on line (based on the notes & reviews here on Fragrantica) and it was Love at first sniff! I love the opening notes and the drydown; the citrus&sweet vanilla mix is simply delicious and so different from all other fragrances I have (or have tested). Gorgeous! So I’d say this is my favourite Guerlain so far! I wish I could find the intense version of it (I’d blind buy it too!)

This is the only one Shalimar I actually like and find wearable for myself. Just noticed that when it dries down on my skin, it smells like lighter version of Lancome’s Hypnose. As I already have Hypnose, I’m a little bit disappointed.

Opens as creamy lemonade! I don’t get the baked good comparisons at all. To me it smells like vanilla and lemon effervescence floating above a heavier, albeit soft, floral musk. This is a lot fresher than other fragrances with gourmand notes, which suits me nicely. Of all the Guerlains I’ve tried so far, this has to be my favourite. It dries down with a nod to the classic guerlain base that I think I’m only just beginning to understand, but maintains a light airiness above the more creamy, soft notes.

this is a gourmand and goes on like lemon baked goods with a musky depth; I usually like intense versions of items but I have both and prefer this to the intense

I sprayed this on the cardboard of the sample at night and it was still noticeable the next morning, right now it’s 17:46 and there’s still a good trace of it, amazing!
For me this perfume smells exactly the way the bottle of it looks. Reminds me of a surreal winter night. The sweet vanilla quality only comes after hours and hours of wear, otherwise some would even consider this fragrance to be quite masculine.

Haha, ok I get it now! People think (lemon) soufflé instead of souffle (breath). Yes, I guess then Guerlain has brought it on themselves with an easily misinterpreted name like that… I thought: have people’s noses become so jaded by all the gourmand scents that that’s all they are able to smell now?
I’m wearing Souffle again today, for me it works best in cooler temperatures, it’s a bit too much in warm weather. Still no lemon cake ;-), but a beautiful creamy Indian sandalwood. To me that makes Souffle more in line with Samsara than Shalimar, but sweeter, updated to this millenium. Could have been a Samsara flanker!

This Shalimar was underestimated by me. I looked for Shalimar in it, and could not find it. But it turned out to be almost original spirits, and despite the short stamina of Shalimar the EDP is very good. I would describe the smell as a very fresh musk. For the musk lovers it could be a nice alternative.

I went to visit my mum today, and I couldn’t help but notice that she smelled absolutely lovely. I got her into fragrance a year or so ago, and when I asked her what she was wearing, she excitedly showed me a sample vial of Shalimar Soufflé de Parfum.
Okay – this is heavenly! How on earth have I not tried this before today?!
While I’m not going to pretend I can pick out various notes, I will say I smell a light, airy, fluffy, floral lemon cake type scent that made me go out and spend my Shoppers points on a 90 ml bottle. It’s muggy and warm here in Ontario, and this perfume really blossoms in the heat. I see that this fragrance is described as fluffy in many reviews, and that truly is the perfect word to describe it. Light, airy, fizzy and fluffy. Many reviews I read say this has poor projection and longevity, but I have to strongly disagree. My mum had only sprayed it once, and it was a soft, beautiful cloud surrounding and following her. When I opened my newly acquired bottle, I of course tried it right away and now, 5.5 hours later, I’m getting frequent wafts of this.
The bottle is, of course, gorgeous. Feels heavy and weighted in the hand, and the ombré colour effect is the cherry on top.
SO beautiful, and so glad I got a bottle. If you happen to stumble across this one, it deserves a test, at the very least. I can’t see how this would be offensive to anybody. Only pleasing. Mmmmm.

I purchased a sample of this from ebay. I must say, the name alone intrigued me. Initially there was a recognizable original Shailmar note. It quickly morphed into a soft, musky vanilla. If Shalimar is the classy dame, Soufflé is her teenage sister with a pony tail and bubblegum. Pleasant. But doesnt have the warm spiciness.

I bought this because of the notes, not for the Shalimar name. (I like Shalimar, and though I see no relation cannot hold it against the perfume). This is light, airy, and fizzy. It’s Guerlain quality lemon meringue pie with a soda. I love it! It’s a perfect light spring & summer scent. Stays close to the skin, but is still noticed by others. My favorite gentle scent.

  13. :

Very soft fragrance. Lemony meringue that does not project too much, but hugs you warmly and comforting without losing its elegance. Very inviting! Plus, the bottle is gorgeous!

  14. :

    4 out of 5

This is the softest scent I own. Not in a barely there way, rather a lingering powder puff of floral lemon vanilla beauty. It’s more a delicate floral on me than the gourmand everyone else describes. Souffle was a safe blind buy for me – it’s sexy like Shalimar, but so easy to wear and love. While it does stay close to my skin, it has good longevity as long as it’s not too hot outside. (Also, it’s always light, never cloying.)

With Shalimar Souffle de Parfum, I can visualize myself eating the entire Tarte au citron meringuée, spoonful by spoonful. It´s gourmand, citrusy, fluffy, light, pleasantly sweet & delicious. Enough said.
/I want to emphasize I´m writing this with respect to this perfume. Moreover, it´s called “souffle” & I´m suggestible, what can I do?/

  16. :

Strange that nobody mentions sandalwood, that’s all I seem to smell, and it is lovely. Reminds me very much of Dune, in that regard.
(Enough with the lemon cake comparisons already, have some respect, it’s Guerlain! 😉

I really like this one. It has a lot of sweet citrus at first that you just want to keep inhaling. I love this kind of citrus, something cake-ish about it, it is not boring to me. Then it turns into summer beach salty impressions but more like an evening or night fragrance, definitely a vacation feel 🙂

  18. :

Interestingly, I get a whiff of what smells like Commodity’s Whiskey (which I really like) during the opening. The citrus scents follow suit, and then my favourite part which is the dry down steps in. Vanilla is the most dominant scent on my skin, which is usually the case for most perfumes that have a vanilla base. The composition and dry down isn’t very complex, but I think that is precisely why I like it for everyday wear.
I really do enjoy this perfume, also due to the fact that the Jasmine Sambac doesn’t rear its ugly head at all – Jasmine is one of my least liked scents.
Unfortunately for me, this scent is only capable of sitting close to the skin. The sillage isn’t projected at all. The upside here is that is lasts very long on me, I can still smell it the next morning even though I put it on before sleeping. I might have to purchase a full bottle once I’m done with my decant!

My boyfriend gifted me this last night and I LOVE it!
For me, it is really hard to correlate Souffle de Parfum with other Shalimars since it is very soft and stays very close to my skin. Also, it lacks the intensity of it, but it does still contain its same charm and the mysterious aspect of the original. Nonetheless, it is a ”passe-partout” type of scent, not agressive and neutral. I will wear this when I don’t feel like wearing my mostly intense and sensual scents.
    Overall 7/10

Of course I know of the legendary Shalimar, but I am not familiar with the scent so I didn’t bring the baggage of expectations. I bought this on fragrencenet, It is incorrectly listed as the 2015 version (when in reality it is this one form 2014). I got the 30ml for around $25.
Decided to take it for a test drive, and she rides smoothly. Creamy vanilla goodness with citrus, it reminds me of lemon mousse and it’s delicious. Stays close to skin so office safe. I would wear this in every season except Summer. Happy to keep this one in the collection.

I actually really like this perfume. I also as others have said wish it wasn’t under the Shalimar name because if this was made in a different bottle and named something else I think people would love this scent more. I think it being compared to Shalimar so strongly is kinda unfair imo. But I’m the type who just loves to wear a good perfume names don’t matter too much to me. Onto to the scent I really love the citrus opening if the bergamot was stronger it would probably be a touch more Shalimar like. But I love the citrus opening of this it smells so fresh but not clean just fresh and citrusy. Then as it goes on I get the beautiful Jasmine with the orange blossom it’s lovely. Finally I like the vanillas and I’m a musk lover so I enjoy this a lot!
What I love is that the white musk is not laundry like at all. To me it’s a smooth sweet musk that pairs well with the vanillas. As I type this I catch whiffs of the vanilla and I really adore it. I bought this on a blind buy due to my love of white florals so I’m super happy! I purchased the 3oz bottle and I adore the bottle so pretty! I would buy this again it’s wonderful. But I would also like Pafume initial brought back I just wanted to throw that out as that was very Shalimar like so why it was d/c’d is beyond me?!? Still this is a lovely scent so I’m a happy girl. 🙂

This perfume literally makes me very angry. This has absolutely nothing to do with Shalimar and is trading on her good name. It is maligning and watering-down the brand. Anytime I wear this I get mad not only because of this travesty but because I could be wearing good perfume instead. I hate wasting a perfume-wearing day. At least it is so soapy that I can layer over it as people will just think this is my detergent.
It starts of smelling like my Korean skincare, lightly scented and slightly astringent. When you apply more it is reminiscent of a tequila shot – strong alcohol with a hint of lime. It is so soft that it is barely perceptible. Then it descends into a soapy-musk, sweetened- vanilla-floral-mediocrity. It could literally be anything at the mall or a cheapie in a teenagers bedroom.

This fragrance was a gentle reintroduction to orientals for me, but it’s an odd one.
It’s not listed but what I get as an overall feel is incense, along with the bergamot and lemon. The vanilla is thin and cool. No flowers.
All of this makes an impression that is too aloof for my liking, even though people enjoy it a lot on me. Still, despite the fact that it seems to work on my skin and I wear it very often, it has a disturbing element.
The uncomfortable feeling I get from it led me to my first layering experiment: I’ve been using it most of this winter with Dame’s Black Flower Mexican Vanilla oil rollerball and it warms up and deepens considerably, making it a very successful combination and an even bigger people-pleaser.
    Still I won’t repurchase after it’s gone.

This one is unfortunately a dislike for me. It does have that mysterious Shalimar vibe, but it is way too citrusy and powdery for me. It smells like vintage washing powder.

  26. :

    3 out of 5

I think I figured out what the secret ingredient is with me and any Shalimar – cold weather. The vanilla warmth and powderiness really comes out with every one I’ve tried, they all turn so deliciously comfy with my chemistry in the winter time.
I tried this 2 years ago in the spring and really liked it, but then something happened and all I could smell was lemon musk floor polish. Looking back, I’m really thinking it was the warmer weather. The vanilla hid from me then, but it’s back now! This is oh so cozy while still keeping on the fresher side. There’s light powdery white florals, lots of zesty citrus and musk and a cozy vanilla base. I wish the mid notes lasted longer though, the mix of the florals and vanilla is my favourite part. I lose that in the dry down, just some citrus/vanilla musk, and am left missing the cozy floral mix.

It was not what I expected but I love it. It is quite different from most perfumes. It smells citrusy and fresh but is also warm and powdery with vanilla. It is rather delicate but lasts a long time. For me it does not resemblance Coco Mademoiselle that is much sharper. This is an elegant, warm and powdery lemon meringue pie scent that I find absolutely lovely.

Ahh.. English tea time on a cool but sunny spring day. Earl Grey and lemon scones.
The bergamot is warm while the lemon is luscious and juicy but rounded out with a musky vanilla. Beautiful fragrance, my favorite Shalimar flanker.. I love it much more than Parfum Initial. They are very different. This is the truly gourmand Shalimar, in my opinion.. while PI is the trendier sweet patchouli type.
And what a gorgeous bottle… classy deep blue, flawless ombre glass..

  29. :

It is a good vanilla, deeper and somewhat darker. Almost woody, almost resinous. However, lacks something to make it shine.
I smell the powdery lemon, not as a citrus freshness but as sweet lemon.
    Warm and cosy.
I would wear it if given, but not buy it.

I absolutely love this and I will admit I do not like or even remotely enjoy Shalimar edp/edt! This is like someone mixed Coco Mademoiselle, Shalimar Cologne, and a hint of Coco Noir and made a baby! It’s so delicious!!! It is like Coco mad with more vanilla and depth it is so delicious! It took one spray to my hand and in 3 min I had already ordered a 90ml bottle!!! If you want a sexier and more unique perfume than the mainstream Coco mad (she gets around) opt for this beautiful baby! It is better much better! 😉

I wear this, and love it. It’s like lemon meringue pie. Unlike many people, however, I wear this on cool days or Winter/Autumn evenings. For some, it may be much too heavy for a warm day. Which proves that a name can occasionally be a misnomer. Not really light, like one would expect. Deliciously creamy with lemon juice to create a very palatable experience
Edit: in regards to the comment on this being like Coco Mademoiselle, it is not really anything like it at all. Lasts longer, smells better, and has some elements of Shalimar.
Lasts much longer than 5 minutes also, can last up to 12 hours on me. Especially in cooler weather.

They have tooo many versions & confuse the hell out of normal ppl w/ this souffle initial drama. I just received this today, I was convinced it was that wonderful really leathery flanker, NOPE, it’s lemon cake & flowers. That I can smell for 5 minutes. So, does anyone know WHAT that wonderful leather flanker was?? Initial?? But, which one? They really should change the bottles more, or is it their intention for ppl to buy the wrong one in hopes they will keep it, well this isn’t for me. If anyone has a bottle of the Leathery (initial), Ill gladly swap, I have the original, it is ok, but I did like that flanker leathery one better. I do know I bought it about 10 yrs ago, not sure if it’s still made, or was LE. Disappointed.

First I must say that I love Shalimar and I have most of the versions of it. I love wearing all of them even the original Shalimar. After trying Shalimar Parfum Initial I thought I wouldn´t like this. But I was wrong. This was a blindbuy because I couldn´t find a sample. I was really curious to try it. At first I wasn´t very happy about it, but of course I gave it a second chance. And slowly I found out that I like it. It is different but still Guerlain and there is something that smells exotic and different from other scents, it is recognizable. The reaction of people around me was that I always wear perfumes that are so different from what they know, but they like it. I have also body and hair powder which is really awesome.

I could never wear the original Shalimar, since it has been my mother’s life time signature. It is so much connected to her, and it is not my scent at all.
I was truly surprised when I tried Shalimar Souffle – this is enough different from the original, and more modern. Actually, it is heavenly!
I have been the floral-fruity lady for most of my adult life, so this took me by surprise. It is not linear, but very complex, soft, not heavy oriental but a delicate one. And the bottle oh so gorgeous!
This takes no 1 place in my want list!
Addition: This is also very long-lasting, I tested it yesterday midday, and today I can still smell it. Such a lovely drydown!

  35. :

Shalimar Souffle de Parfum is a difficult fragrance for me to love as it is quite different from the original Shalimar and its subsequent flankers.
Shalimar Souffle de Parfum is incredibly musky and citrusy, not at all rich and vanillary like its predecessor. This flanker is attempting to change the face of Shalimar, making it lighter, more warm weather appropriate for the younger generation. As a young woman in my late 20’s I must admit that I prefer the original and Shalimar Parfum Initial to this latest release. I find the musk note quite jarring on my skin and miss Shalimar’s distinctive personality which doesn’t appear to be present in this fragrance.
The bottle design on the other hand is one of Guerlain’s best. The packaging is very appealing with its sapphire blue bottle and the subsequent limited edition bottles released every year with different designs on each are even more beautiful. If I collected fragrances for the bottles alone I would definitely own Shalimar Souffle de Parfum, but as scent is paramount to me, this fragrance will never make the cut.
I predict that Shalimar Souffle de Parfum will be as short-lived as Shalimar Parfum Intial, (which in my opinion should never have been discontinued). This fragrance is the first Guerlain in a long while that I haven’t fallen in love with and for that I am quite disappointed.

  36. :

    5 out of 5

Shalimar Souffle eau de Parfum is concurrently fluffy-soft and well-projecting; delicate, yet complex, she is resplendent in the kind of beauty that has no self-awareness.
She is (to me) Shalimar’s coquettish sister but still waters run deep, and as the fragrance blooms and opens from body heat, she starts to whisper and giggle of intimate secrets, telling tales of perfect Guerlain Vanilla, exquisite young French flowers, and the sidewalk cafe where she felt Love’s first blush.
My nose is untrained, but I can at least try to convey the images, feelings, emotions and hope that it translates well.
Shalimar Souffle eau de parfum, like her classic predecessor, transports me to another, much better world.
In one word: WORTH. (as in, well worth obtaining no matter what).
All the way, hands down. (but I’m a confirmed Guerlinade, which is probably not even spelled correctly).

I like this scent but it doesn’t smell like the original at all. They’re not even family. This perfume is fresh, casual and delicate while the original is pretty warm, classy and strong. The opening is beautiful with soft citrus notes. The vanilla combines very well. This reminds me of lemon cake! It’s not the super sweet kind of cake. It’s the healthy version for adults. The floral and musk notes create more sensuality. Jasmin can be sickly and overpowering but it’s fresh and subtile in this scent. I like how it’s done! This is a nice, light perfume which would be great during warm seasons. It’s not as serious as it’s mother.

i’ve never smelt the original shalimar. this is good enough for me. on me it’s not so vanillary which is good coz i’m a not a fan of vanilla. the opening very fresh from the citrus.. dry down very powdery musk and a bit citrus.
i enjoy wearing this.safe for everyday office wear

Souffle de Parfum is an effervescent citrus fragrance with powdery/musk undertones. The composition is simple, yet elegant and when I wear this I feel glamorous and feminine. The staying power on my skin varies. Sometimes it lasts all days and sometimes it’s gone within an instant. Either way, I still love it.

call me crazy if you want too but this perfume smells like Chanel Coco Mademoiselle on my skin . Anyone has the same impression as me ? its similar as the chanel one but less harsh and more closer to the skin rather than it screams “HELLO IM HERE TO INVADE YOUR TERRITORY” !

Really, really bad longevity. A couple of hours at most. I had this on one wrist and Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess on the other. After 2 hours there was nothing of the Shalimar left. For a perfume by Guerlain i’m surprised how very poorly it performed and wouldn’t waste my money despite it smelling pretty good.

Airport. The association struck me the moment I sprayed the tester. While advertisement wants us thinking of travel, adventure and excitement, my own feelings about airports amount to way too dry air, a sore lack of sleep and, on top of that, the top 5 bestselling women’s (and men’s) fragrances of a past decade mingled into a raging cloud of ethylmaltol, white musk and the woody amber of the day. I thought this was what had caused my response, but no, not entirely – cinnakitty below has it all figured out.
A testing strip of Dune had been lingering in a side pocket of my suitcase for a long while, and on a number of unpleasant airport occasions, I used to take it out and sniff its fading basenotes. It might be about the common ground between creaminess, acidity and blunt woodiness that both Dune and Shalimar Souffle display. It might be about a floral note trying to be jasmine, but ending up being the perfume of a person you are forced to sit close to, even if only for a couple of hours. The “Souffle” part is true, kind of: a muffled impression, covered with something, undiscernable. Sweet-smelling plastic wrapping.
My mother, who is in her mid-50s and typically prefers fresh fragrances akin to No. 19, found it lovely. As opposed to the original Shalimar, which was “somewhat floral, but too leathery”. I for one was left deeply confused by Shalimar Souffle. Truly unsettled, actually.

I just want to add that I have been wearing this daily for over 6 months now, and it is my favourite perfume ever. It is WARM and delicious, sweet enough for men to like it without being even vaguely cloying.
On me both the sillage and the longevity are really good. And Initial hardly lasts a couple of hours on me! Just goes to show what a difference body chemistry makes.
I wore Obsession again the other day for my anniversary, and I liked it and wondered if it had a warmth I was missing from Souffle… but no, much happier back in my signature. The dessert you may be imagining is NOT what this is about – Souffle is deep and womanly and glorious.

  44. :

    5 out of 5

Certainly not Shalimar except for the bottle, that’s already established by now. But….is it bad? My view, not at all. It’s a beautiful and easy to wear in summer citrus-jasmine-vanilla-musk which is not so common either in the end because of the rather pronounced – but clean – jasmine signature for a mainstream flanker (but no worries, for those not liking the carnal and “dirty” jasmine notes in classic, arabic or more niche interpretations, this is far from going into any real jasmine overdrive). I find it much more interesting than Mon Guerlain for instance and a beautiful easy fragrance which gets quite addictive in the end. For me, a summer stapple.

  45. :

    4 out of 5

I didn’t find modernity in comparison with Shalimar Initial in this fragrance. Don’t be tricked by the beautiful bottle!

  46. :

    3 out of 5

Indeed perhaps in perfumery more than most realms it becomes clear exactly how individual we all are.
I love Shalimar and think it is a masterpiece but don’t wear it often. It is just smokier and more leathery than my preference. The Initial is very pleasant to my nose but iris always seems to play tricks on my skin, and it doesn’t last long. Which brings me to – the Souffle to me is gorgeous. Creamy vanilla, whispering voile-like musk, soft citrus and white flowers dancing throughout. It’s soft, it’s fluffy, it’s creamy-light-sweet. It’s lemon-vanilla pudding on a breezy day. And its lifespan is moderate.
I do understand those who feel like this is not a Shalimar relative. Nor is sweet-coffee-patchouli Black Opium much like the original hot-spicy-woody YSL Opium; nor is the new EL Bronze Goddess EDP particularly reminiscent of the old BG EDTs. I think perhaps these pairs are more related in the minds of the perfumers who understand their inspirations and origins, who know the invisible paths that our noses do not always detect. I do get traces of Shalimar here – they’re just incomplete. It’s like a spinoff, a riff.
But at the end of the day what matters most to me is how I feel about an individual scent, not its grouping. And to me this one is joyful, beautiful, ever so wearable, and unique; the name “Souffle” is very fitting; and the bottle is arguably worth the expense even without the juice inside.

  47. :

How different we all are! For me I’d like to keep my arm next to my face all day!
So, getting right to the point…
Not Shalimar. Nothing like Shalimar. Nada. Wait for it though…
Dune. This is an homage to Dune.
If you like Dune, the original, you should try this. It isn’t Dune, it’s a Dune Souffle, but if you like that, you may like this.
    You’re welcome 🙂

  48. :

I liked Shalimar ‘light’ – l’eau de shalimar and also the perfume initial, I quite like a powdery fragrance. But Shalimar Souffle is nothing of the sort, so don’t expect it to resemble Shalimar. For me the Bergamot and the Jasmine were too intense and clashed on my skin. It wasn’t just a ‘scrubber’, it made me want to chop my own arm off.

  49. :

    5 out of 5

Love this but it only lasts about an hour on my skin. If I can get it to hang on to clothing that will be awesome! Definitely a citrus queen, the base gives a hint at Shalimar. Truly not enough sillage or longevity to be able to wear unless you spritz every hour or two, but very pleasant.

  50. :

    3 out of 5

This is a very beautiful fragrance, but it bears very little resemblance to the original Shalimar. Instead, it is much closer to another Guerlain masterpiece, L’Instant, because it is similarly creamy, powdery, sweet(ish) and unabashedly feminine.

i wear this perfume to bed. I find it too soft and subtle for daytime wear but of perfect strength when I’m wrapped inside my blanket.
This scent is soothing and calming. The vanilla never comes off cloyingly sweet and the dry down stays delicious. This is my favorite of the Shalimar flankers, with just a drop of the original Shalimar into a wispy cloud of soft vanilla dreams. 10/10

I ordered samples of this perfume and can tell it’s high end fragrance, interesting and elegant but can’t say that I really care for it. It’s a serious and sort of old fashioned perfume. Citrus notes are noticeable but they are flat and are not refreshing in any way. I am not buying this beautiful bottle.

Finally got my hands on this bottle. I found it for a great price. So, I get it out of the box, sniffed the lid and was intrigued. I then sprayed it. While the first spray was lemony, it then went into a floral almost too floral cloud. After being on for a little longer, it became slightly less floral, and a lemon creme smell appeared just behind it. The base was more of the lemon creme smell with less florals. I like the dark blue bottle for sure. I will try this a couple more times with full wearings as I just got it, but I am thinking I need to layer this with a heaver cologne, something with a tonka or vanilla base. IMO this is unisex”ish”. I find that it is a fem perfum but if you are a guy who likes a creamy lemony character and don’t mind florals this may be up your alley, but like I said as for me I will have to layer this I think. Performance is moderate, nothing to brag about. Happy Sniffing.

Good news, according to the Monsieur Guerlain Facebook, I got a reply back from the admin of the page that Soufflé has not been discontinued

I love it for its own uniqueness and vibe. It is a nice citrus dessert like scent. Souffle is a great name for it. Shalimar no so much. At least I cannot smell much if anything that reminds me of Shalimar EDP or EDT. I think it’s more a marketing ploy than a real connection to my all time favorite evening eau de perfume. But this is still very lovely. It reminds me of a sheet of fresh baked lemon vanilla cookies set on a window sill next to an open window, waiting to cool off. It is really delicious, just not “shalimary” IMHO.

First whiff is sharp & I mean omg wash it off! Acrylic nail salon nasty sharp! Within a minute or 2 that passes & turns into a light lemon vanilla floral. If you can get past that 1st sharp stab, it’s lovely

People sometimes pitch a fit over having this named as a Shalimar flanker. Souffle is exactly what its name indicates; it’s a breath of Shalimar. Guerlain is not doing a swap out of notes the way that Burberry does with the Brit flankers – not that either way is correct or incorrect – it’s just a different approach to flankers.
In the same way that a chocolate souffle is not the same as a piece of dark chocolate, Shalimar Souffle is not the same as classic Shalimar. A bite of a chocolate bar is good and so is a bite of chocolate souffle, but you aren’t going to confuse the two. It’s the same with Shalimar and Souffle; you recognize the flavors, but the texture is totally different.
In Shalimar Souffle you have the gentlest whisper breath of Shalimar. Souffle shares classic Shalimar’s citrus at the top, a jasmine middle, and vanilla/musk bottom. What’s missing are the elements that give Shalimar its olfactory heft, the cedar, rose, powdery iris, civet, sandalwood, and opoponax. But again, this is a breath of Shalimar – not a lower concentration or Eau de Cologne of the same scent.
When you set aside the “Is it Shalimar enough,” you can focus on whether you like this fragrance, and I do. It’s lovely, fresh and delightful. It’s warm and womanly with enough complexity to be interesting. It’s genuinely a beautiful scent on its own which is evocative of Shalimar, without trying to BE Shalimar.

The most delicately sweet, yet light-as-air lemon dessert in a perfume bottle. Sillage is arm’s length. Longevity for days! LOVE LOVE LOVE!

Interestingly, after many testings and much thinking, I had finally decided to take this off my want list, because it just disappeared on me. Quite literally, I couldn’t even smell it.
Then I received it as a Christmas present, and I’m glad I did. Don’t ask me what was going on with all my previous tests! Yes, Souffle is subtle (it does translate to ‘breath’, after all), but it certainly does have its own quiet character.
