I bought Escentric Molecules discovery set and so far I am disappointed.
Escentric 01 is nice BUT it is a dupe of Dior Homme Cologne 2013 (which I also own) with less projection and longevity… knowing DHC 2013 is not a longevity beast, I let you imagine Escentric 01 poor performance :((

I didn’t like it at first, but now it’s my top 5 for summer. Let me tell a quick story of the first time I sprayed it. I was well aware of the rumors that this fragrance has unusual performance, so with that in mind I sprayed only two sprays on my neck. That is my general rule for stronger fragrances as to not offend anyone. I let it sit for 45 minutes. I step in the back seat of a 2016 Honda Civic and my two parents who sat in front immediately react very negatively with a cringe. They asked what is that smell! Ethan you put on too much, don’t wear that cologne anymore. So I didn’t, because that shit hurted. Mind you I could only smell the fragrance if I pressed my nose on my skin. My first impression was that it was too harsh and too lemony peppery. 7 months later and I have made a complete 180 with my opinion. I’m a little bit addicted to the smell, it is unlike anything I’ve ever smelled on anyone my age, and it makes me feel like I’m on another level than anyone else wearing fragrance. I feel like it is contrary to my parents first impression very inoffensive and light. The sillage is excellent (probably) and the reactions that I get are very positive now, even my mom likes it now. I don’t know what happened on those first two sprays, but now I am in love with this stuff.

A breeze of citrus musk. Mainly lemon. The lemony aroma stands out, while the musk sets the stage for the powdery leather to step in. To some this will be sheer perfection. To others this is a no go. As for me, i will say its a masterpiece because in a room full of guys smelling the same… you’ll stand out. Thats what really matters!

Escentric 01 and Molecule 01 were the fragrances that started the success of Escentric Molecules. These fragrances were designed upon a particular molecule, more precisely the Iso E Super, patented by IFF company.
Escentric 01 has 65% of Iso E Super in its formula, maximizing the power of the fragrance and the other notes. According to the manufacturer, these notes are lime peel, hedione (synthetic compound of marked freshness, which may have floral nuances – similar to jasmine – or citrus), iris, balsamic notes and fresh musk.
On the skin, Escentric 01 works great. It is a kind of perfect complement to what the perfumer wants to show for those who have not seen the brilliance proposed by Molecule 01. And what they bring in common – Iso E Super – is much more effective here than in the other creation, at least for me.
Respecting the concept of the brand, Escentric 01 is clearly synthetic, but has a perfume vibe, exudes an extremely pleasant fragrance and does not give that feeling of frustration, which was the reaction of many people regarding the other fragrance.
Escentric 01 is easy to conquer because it has a clear and citric aura, but carries numerous facets that only reveal themselves over time (and depending on the user’s skin) thanks to the immense amount of Iso E Super that was used. That is why some people smell bitter orange, others smell pencil shavings and others smell woods. There are also those who feel a silky and strong musky effect, others say they feel suede and there are those who only smell peppers.
The truth is that Escentric 01 is extremely changeable, although it does have a citrus-like spine that holds up everything else. On my skin, the projection is good, but the highlight is for the longevity, typical of fragrances that bring a synthetic note here and there, but with a big difference: this time, the compound is not just another note in the middle of the olfactory pyramid. It is the main note and was used without fear!
Escentric 01 is shareable, differentiated – even when it seems generic – and still allows some bolder layering attempts. It deserves the family fame!

At first I disliked it and now i think it is nice, but I would rather have nice casual aromatics that are cheaper
maybe I will get it on sale sometime
nice stuff, hard to judge longevity , 4 hours ?

What a strange perfume! I bought a genuine decant just incase I did not get on with the cedar.
My first spray lasted over 48 hours despite showering etc. It was quite a strong cedar note on me, along with something gentle that I can’t describe very well.
Then I tried it with Black Orchid, and it was way too strong for my nose, and the cat ran off…
Then I tried one tiny spray with one tiny spray of Boadicea, and I rubbed my wrists together and KAPOW! Heaven. I can’t believe how good it smells. Normally this fragrance is quite masculine on me, so I rarely wear it, but with the Molly 1, it is unbelievable, delicious, vanillery flowers, warm and amazing. I love it. I have to save up a bit for a large bottle. It is a miracle worker that can last up to 48 hours on my skin.
I am so glad that I read all of the reviews before purchasing, and I am really glad that I have it. I have not worn it out yet. I will see what happens tomorrow.

Hey pal, this is normal for this frsagrance.
The same thing happened to me when i first purchased it a few yearsd back.
i sprayed and was like….uuuugh, wtf? I smelled NOTHING! Well I did get something, it was only rubbing alcohol!
A few days went by, i kept trying to see if something would surface but I did notice one thing. I was getting compliments at work 5 hours after i had applied! I was blown away as I literally could not smell a thing! I was saddened as I like to smell perfume on myself.
Well, long story short i finally started smelling it after I sprayed my brother to see if I could smell it on someone else! IT smelled DIVINE!! Like a musky, somewhat salty/sweet peppery smell, almost like hot skin on the sun!
Now it was become one of my favorite go-to fragrances! I get complimented on it almost every time I wear it. LOVE it!

Sometimes I am shocked at what gets so many loves and likes here on Fragrantica, and Escentric 01 is definitely one of those times.
At first blast, this is very chemical and synthetic and alcohol (rubbing alcohol, not boozy alcohol) smelling to me…Smells like something from a science lab. Maybe the design of the bottle plays with my subliminal..? But that is what I get at first blast. Then I get pretty much..nothing….Where did this fragrance go..? I tried spraying a couple more sprays, and it was still as though I sprayed nothing. I even held my nose right up to my skin on my forearm where I sprayed this, and sniffed..I sniffed hard..and nothing. I really, really strained to sniff..what is going on..?? I finally give a few more sprays, and..nothing.
This is from luckyscent, so I know it’s legit. I faintly VERY FAINTLY pick up a slight VERY SLIGHT pepper note, and that is it. After about 10 sprays (yes, 10 sprays), and even waiting a couple of hours for some sort of dry down magic, I gave up. My skin just must eat this one up immediately as soon it is sprayed…?! I don’t know..*shrug*
I do, if straining hard yet again, pick up a pine tree scent about a couple hours after wearing this, but that is again, holding my nose smack up against my skin and sniffing hard. I don’t know about this one, or what happened…? All I know is I pick up basically nothing with this unless I really strain my nose like I never have to even detect the faintest of scent.
One of the most overhyped fragrances to my nose..I just don’t get it…*shrug*..But that is the beauty of fragrance, it can be so many things to so many people. Unfortunately, for me, this one..nothing. So disappointed..But I guess you can’t win them all.

This is a clean, woodsy scent that is smooth and appealing. I find it stays close to you and doesn’t have much sillage. It stays on for about 8 hours. It actually is a lovely scent.

Escentric 01 is transparent and absolutely beautiful — the essence of all that is new, clean, minimalist, and exquisite. Contains a hint of celery, making this a vegetal fragrance.

Very reminiscent of Montale’s Intense Pepper for me—and a simpler version of it as well. It has the Calabrian lemon and pink pepper aura, which is fresh and stimulating, and slightly sophisticated. The fragrance as a whole is not as well-blended as Intense Pepper is though, which leaves much to be desired of it.
I personally don’t think that this fragrance was intended to be taken as serious fragrance though. I moreso suspect that this Escentric-01 is simply intended to act as some kind of demonstration for the company’s ISO E Super. ISO E Super is a very large molecule, that if the olfactory channels are closed, will trigger the G-Protein to open up the channels so that the molecule can be processed.
You see, there’s a very faint bit of floral (said Iris) at the bottom of this fragrance. So I believe the demonstration here involves seeing their ISO E Super unlock the perception of that floral note if it isn’t inherently present. And it does, or did for me anyways, midway through. So I think the effectiveness is proven fairly well, but as an actual fragrance this stuff is otherwise pretty bland, and not even really decant worthy imo.

The Fragrance DeeJay is back! I’m back because I forgot how much I love this stuff, but not for too long…
I didn’t think of this as a workout fragrance… I have been hooked on the nice balanced cucumber note from polo blue for my workouts for quite sometime…. so anyhow, I thought I might put these two together and I was pleasantly surprised… The scent will last and last, it helps with my mindset during the workout and quite frankly it smells great.
If you have these two, give this mix a try

Soft, citrusy, woody musk. Abstract and otherworldly. It’s Iso E. You’ve smelled this everywhere, especially in recent fragrances. This is an interesting concept, but to me a damning indictment of the state of modern perfumery which overuses this pallid but easy to like molecule. This is a strange molecule – I’ve tried JHaG’s Not a Perfume which is basically the same thing; it’s hard to smell on yourself, you think it’s gone and then it’s back, but it manages to have longevity and monster projection. I’m not sure why, since it’s supposed to be the same thing, but E01 reads more masculine while NaP feels more feminine (???). I’m pretty bored with this citrusy cedary aquatic but if it’s your thing go for it.

This perfume. It is a bit like Marmite, only either you smell it and love it or you can’t smell it. I bought it twice by now and the first bottle seemed to have more of something in it. As the user you smell it only a little bit while spraying, it will faint quite quickly but dont be fooled. It reacts with your own smell and develops to something very unique. So unique that people will ask you what the heck are you wearing woman? Stranger ask me that questions. My friend know whether I came to work by the smell and we work in a huge building in two different places! Only these were all women. My boyfriend or friends can’t smell a thing on me. I can smell the smell I leave on a scarf and it is a mix of my own smell and the molecule but they can’t smell a thing. So bloomer really. I still use it on my neck but as a base, with that in other paces than my neck I spray twice with some other (rather gentle) smell like Diptyque. I use perfumes for my own pleasure really to remind myself of good places and good smells, not for others but if you like to be smelled by others and smell so much on the morning trains that make other people dizzy then this is definitely not a perfume for you. It will be a waste of money:)

Sampled it a few times, did a full wear yesterday.
I see a few people here confusing Escentric 01 with Molecule 01. Well, to me they are different as day and night. I don’t get any Iso E super with Escentric 01.
Escentric 01 is more based on citrus/bergamot with a bit of pepper. The fragrance has extreme good lasting power! It comes off to ke as quite uncontrolled and rough, which can be a good thing in perfumerie. Unfortunately the global smell reminds me of bandages (I see someone else also has made the reference!), which makes it not too attractive to me.
Lasting power is very good though 24 hours later I can still smell it on me.

I quite like this weird one. Molecule 1 is good, but escentric 1 is more interesting in my opinion. I like the woody-lemony vibe in this fragrance (I can’t discover the pink pepper and iris in this scent). Nice and casual. This perfume would be fitting for a name like “anyway” if that wasn’t taken by JHAG already…..

Man, I wanted to love this. I put it on one arm and Sacred Wood by Kilian on the other one. 15 hours later I could still smell this. Of course it was a skin scent by then but who cares?
When I first sprayed it I got the woodsy scent coming through strong, but the weirdest strongest thing for me was rubber. I felt like I was in Costco picking out tires! I was hoping it died down but for many hours later, it was still there, overpowering the woodsy scent.
I asked three people which scent they preferred-this or SW by Kilian and they all three picked this one. I didn’t tell them I smelled rubber, and they didn’t mention it.
Oh, also, it burned going on, but that died down too. Sadly this is one I won’t be buying.

However ‘cool’ it’s presented, this is the fragrance equivalent of Monosodium Glutamate.
What’s MSG? – something with little describable taste, which can be put into food in high concentrations, enhances the flavour, makes you want more without knowing why, synthetic but moreish.
That’s ISO E super too. Enticing but vacuous. It’s not a good combo.

OK – after a lot of umming and arrhing, I finally scored a 30ml wrapped , brand new refill of this through a reputable beauty website – people have literally RAVED about Molecule 01 so, curiosity finally got the better of me .
£35 later ……….I have sprayed it on skin, hair and clothing and you know what I smell ? Absolutely nothing , my husband cannot smell it and neither can my daughter . I smell an initial blast of alcohol not unlike rubber and then…………….the silence a deathly , and expensive .
I have a nose that can usually discern what perfume of aftershave a woman or man is wearing , 99 out of a 100 times , its my party piece .
Is my nose going deaf ? Is this a case of the emperors new clothes ?
Did I just waste half a days pay on a bottle of water with a bit of alcohol in it ?
I would swap this for just about anything -I can’t review this at all – how do you review – nothing ???

I have been wearing a few sprays for about 3 hours now and I really really like this scent.. The strength has been steady thus far and if it lasts a few more hours it could very well become my signature by default. I will add that it has been a very windy day and I had to spend at least an hour or so standing in the wind. I am still floating in the scent…
The reason I say “signature by default” is because I find this to be a very “professional” businessy smelling scent, and also it does not screw with your senses like some really great “intoxicating” scents do. I find it to be very inoffensive and well balanced. If I were to smell this on someone at a department store, I would think “white collar professional”… This is something I could wear to work every day. I do not think an overspray would hurt either – It’s light but its definitely there…
I think what we have here is a really great scent with the wrong name. Name it something like “Le Executive” and I think it would sellout fast to a mature crowd (Im not sure what the sales have been like but I really had to do some searching to even find out about this fragrance) UPDATE: Its sold out at my favorite online shop :

  35. :

P.S. I did not get any burning sensation from this one as mentioned in the previous review. I did get a burning sensation from Feve Delicieuse and I can’t find anyone claiming that anywhere else but I think that may be caused by either mixing different ingredients from other fragrances that linger on the skin or perhaps body chemistry – or maybe even the cia … eh

  36. :

    3 out of 5

slightly burning sensation upon spraying on skin. In short: lightly peppery at the start and then mostly woody (soft powdery woody smell) with floral undertone- both very generic, no wow factor, just a nice plain woodsy lightly floral smell. Did not get lemony notes at all. It does not smell synthetic or any weird stuff mentioned below. unisex in a sense- it’s genderless, I would mostly picture it on elderly person (perhaps because my mom loves and wears Dior Homme which I rejected for similar floral iris/woody smell) . It is not very sofisticated for any day or night smart occasion, man or woman.
On negative note: This fragrance did give me short and sharp headache, thus I am a bit worried about projection of it to other people. I might keep it, as long as I can hold my breath for few minutes or spray it on shirt and let it be for a short while. Perhaps concentration of ISO E Super is a bit much and needs further dilution to avoid initial sharp kick on your brains. Buy it, it’s very distinctive smell, so you know when other perfumes trying to rip you off with ISO E Super
Final conclusion: no magic happend. Got used to the smell overtime to the anosmic point (knowing that it’s 20% solution, this perfume should smell forever, it does not, it’s barely noticeable). Overpriced, overhyped.

Like Jeremy Fragrance pointed out in his review: Escentric Molecules probably got the best selling point going with this fragrance, saying Escentric 01’s one ingredient (Iso E super, reminiscent of ambergris), will smell different on every person.
Well, it doesn’t. It smells exactly the same, with slight variatons depending on your skin type.
Escentric 01 is also super weird, as it disappears and reappears randomly. And like Jeremy also points out, it smells like a natural scent and not a fragrance. Will be perfect for someone who hates fragrances and got the money to spare.
The bottle is actually quite nice and you can tell it’s from a niche brand.
But in my opinion? Absolutely not worth 120 dollars. The good thing about it that I found though, is that you can use it in combination with other fragrances to make them last longer.
7/10 – You have to be into niche fragrances to enjoy it

    **magic in a bottle**
One of the most difficult fragrances to describe as it smells different on everybody. It’s not sweet in any way. Soft woody, and musc. Very natural but pleasant. Don’t bother smelling this off a blotter. Spray it right onto your skin. You may not be able to smell it ok yourself, but it will smell fantastic on and you will receive compliments everywhere you go. I promise.

This smells so similar to Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue to me, except not as sweet or as sparkling. There’s no juicy apple and no floof, just those nice bright and clean citurs notes on a base of musk. It’s simple.
A couple hours later, it warms up and turns slightly sour (but in a good way).

  41. :

    3 out of 5

Absolutely horrendous smell in my opinion. Smells like something I’d put on my meat before eating it as a kid, reminds me of a middle school cafeteria. Not at all pleasing to me.

I was wooed by the positive reviews. Unfortunately this did not work for me. It has a highly medicinal smell that was annoying and cloying. I was hopeful it would be fresh.. and it is fresh but more in an antiseptic cleaner rather than rain type of way.

While I had trouble detecting Molecule 01 during the first few minutes of its opening, Escentric 01 is more welcoming to me with its luminescent, fresh lemon opening. The lemon here is not really aromatic or tart, but more like an abstract force that lift the fragrance up.
Escentric 01 moves to the velvety woody incense dry down phase also fairly quickly, and remains as such until it completely fades. But while the dry down of Molecule 01 feels like a layer of cream on my skin, Escentric 01 is a bit more diffusive and elevated, as if all the other additional elements take the Iso E Super to a balloon ride.
The sillage is moderate to close, and the longevity is around 9 hours. While Molecule 01 is pleasant, I found it a bit stagnant during the dry down. However, Escentric 01 ornaments the Iso E Super with sparkles, which makes it fresher and more dynamic. If you happen to be looking for a clean, innocent, abstract, smelling-good fragrance within niche brands, I think Escentric 01 worths a try.

Ok, so I guess I like Iso E Super.. From now on I can safely ignore when people fuzz about it (and trust me, people do complain about this chemical A LOT)
The drydown of this fragrance is frankincense-like, dry & woodsy, yet fizzy & transparent (almost like a light whiff of Armani’s Bois d’Encens from far away)

This is fantastic. Plain and simple. I had never tried any of the Escentrics and wasn´t that interested after reading reviews here. Some time in the spring this year while working my latest job this woman came to pick up her son. She wasn´t very close to where I was standing at all, but I smelled her AMAZING perfume and had to ask her. Ended up being this one. She wasn´t sure at first which one of the Escentrics – most people aren´t like us! 🙂 – so when I got to know her better I asked again and she brought the bottle. This one. And I got it in June this year and luckily it works SO well for me as well! I find it utterly clean without being sanitised at all. Yes, it is quite woody and I can understand the pencil shavings comparison, but to me it is merely in the best of ways so I´d rather call it newly cut, good quality woods. It´s grounded by the pepper here and brightened by the fresh and icy lemon. I smell the iris right away too and I think it´s the iris that makes it more sensual than the Molecule 1, that I also tried when buying the Escentric 1. The Molecule 1 is nice too, but this one is more sensual and more perfumey. More real, I guess. Anyway, in this one it is, maybe strangely so, kind of like with older, more classic perfumes- the notes meld together in such a good way- it´s kind of unimportant what they are and that´s kind of the way I like it. I smell water and woods, high quality soap and greenery and some milkiness and YET it is very fresh and bright. I don´t find it ambery at all even though Iso E is described as having ambery properties. Well, maybe like dry amber, a bit like the amber in Stella! Yes, that´s it. Very different from the amber in Pradas Amber or Balmain Ambre Gris- that type of amber does NOT work for me, see. Escentric doesn´t so much change on me during a wear, but it is true with the wafts coming and going. I haven´t met a lot of strangers since getting it, but i have met a bunch of friends and four friends that would NEVER say anything about perfumes have complimented me on it. It seems to drive people slightly nuts, it makes people happy and giddy and fascinated. I have my first day at new job on Monday and I will definitely wear this because I feel that it evokes positivity. I am VERY happy I bought this one!

  48. :

    5 out of 5

I tried it on me expecting very little and was amazed that it really works on my skin and I was getting really pleasant wafts several hours after just one squirt on my arm at lunchtime. Buying the dupe that has got rave reviews on Amazon. If it doesn’t work I will splash out on the real thing next payday. Really surprised by how lovely this was as I unisex skin scents are not the kind of thing that usually appeal to me.

I constantly smell tons of different perfumes, because I am looking for something special, that something that will make me go “Oh my God!!! I need to have this!!! I am in love!!!” This is this perfume! Love at first sniff!
That having said, it is so weird! One moment it smells divine, heaven, and then it smells weird, indeed like pencil shavings. Then it smells divine again, like a warm citrus my-skin-but-better come-hither smell. I have no idea why my perception to it changes, or why the perfume itself changes. But ah, that moment of perfect bliss, it’s worth waiting until it reappears!

    Over 40 male reviewer:
First you don’t smell it. Then ya do. Then ya don’t. Then ya do.
When you DO, you get pencil shavings. Plain and simple.
Not so sure what is so appealing or sexy about pencil shavings.
Reminiscent of the 4th grade pencil sharpener in Miss Holiday’s class that I used to go to the front of the class room to use. It was an excuse to visit my friend sitting in the front row after getting in trouble for messing around in the back row with me. Lead pencils, not graphite. Sometimes I’d spend extra time trying to get the tip of the pencil just right.
Revisiting that scent is fun for about three seconds. I can’t understand for the life how me how this would then translate into an alluring come-hither. Hanging out in Home Depot’s woodworking section might be just as sexy.
    Hmph.

This perfume didn’t work on me AT ALL even after trying it on 5 different occasions. Nowhere near the magic that so many seem to experience, but just a clean laundry smell.
There are 2 kinds of reviews on this one- either rave reviews or those who almost feel cheated. I belong to the latter category.

The Emperors New Clothes sums it up. NOTHING!
I got 16 samples from Lucky Scent, and began trying them randomly, without looking at the labels. The first one I tried yesterday was Invasion Barbare by MDCI. I really love it and will buy a bottle of it.
So today I took another sample out of the package, without looking at the label. I had a difficult time opening the vial, so I had to use pliers. The top shattered! Carefully I applied a drop to each wrist. Nothing. A very very faint smell. Nice, unusual smell, but almost not there. I waited 15 minutes, but can’t smell anything. Since the vial is open and can not be sealed because it has jagged edges, I decided to empty it on both wrists and rub them together. 15 minutes later I tried again – Nothing. Then I looked at the label. Escentric 01 I just read all the reviews on this perfume. I must be one of those people this doesn’t work on. It might be my body chemistry, but not something I would ever buy.

The moment I checked this out on a blotter and on my wrist, It reminded me of a very diluted Encre Noir, thats due to the Iso Esuper and synthetic Musk obviously but the Musk and a hint of vetiver disappeared so quickly and what I got was a thick woody(cedar) note with no direction , I would have loved it if it stood at least for a couple of hours or less but I was unable to smell that after half an hour.
If this is perfumery then I can make my own with Ethanol , Iso and white musk but that will last longer for sure.
    A big thumbs Down

I really, really wanted to love this. Thank God I only have a sample size, because this stuff just smells absolutely horrible on me. I just found my sample from a year ago and thought maybe I’d like it better now – nope. On me, this just smells like hospital and maybe some type of incredibly stale cedar. It reminds me of doctors’ offices and musty attics – not exactly the aroma I want to be wearing. Perhaps I would like this better on a man, or on anyone other than myself, but it’s a definite nope for me.

To me this perfume equals the emperors new clothes.
    I smell nothing. N.O.T.H.I.N.G
I only get the opening which smells of hospital alcohol.
I even sprayed in on a few of my friends and I can’t smell anything on them either. Neither can they smell it on themselves.
We can’t ALL be anosmic to this? Also, sprayed from different stores so definitely something weird going on when it’s getting this many good reviews.

There is some type of sorcery going on with this fragrance because it has quickly moved to ‘signature scent’ status. I really can’t quite explain it but I have never experienced a fragrance which keeps me inside a magical scent bubble of pure loveliness. It comes and goes, appears and disappears but whenever it appears, my oh my! My mother, who is not a huge perfume person herself complemented on how lovely i smelt and I couldn’t even smell myself. It pretty much stays true to the scent in the bottle on me…a floral/woody mixture of pure heaven. 😀
Update: The longevity of this perfume is impeccable! A solid 24 hours people…straight up voodoo in this bottle.

This has so much hype, it just smell like cedar wood pencil shavings, like all of the Eccentric range, they harp on about the e-isomer thing. What I can say its a rip off thing! Utter rubbish. I can’t believe I paid over £60 for this over a decade ago. I still have the damn bottle. I think it will end up in the bin this Christmas.
