Without any doubt the best fragrance to remember a vegetable garden. A walk in the countryside in full spring.

I find this a wonderful green galbanum first on, way too much so for me, but it dries fast to a delicious herbal cool, with a moment or two of nearly 4711 Europeaness in there, but continues to fresh herbal cologne. This will be too masculine for some women, but I would call this unisex. I like this very very much.

This is a wonderful fresh, green scent, with Jean-Claude Ellena’s signature all over it. The bracing green herbal aspects are well rounded out with subtle florals (lily of the valley), fruits (plum) and leaves (tomato). Sadly, the longevity of the current formulation was terrible on my friend’s skin. I’d pick up a bottle if it was going cheap, but it’s a hard sell at retail price.

As the warmer weather approaches I am debating in my own head whether I should get Eau de Campagne or not. You see this fragrance evokes in me beautiful memories of my childhood with a sprinkle of nostalgia. But I do like this fragrance very much and it has been on my wish list for quite some time now.
Imagine a warm summer afternoon, it is about 4 o’clock and my grandmother goes out in her garden for a spot of gardening. The smell of the soil baking all day under a relentless heat of the sun and all the beautiful flowers and vegetation ready for a good dose of refreshing watering. The opening of EDC reminds me of the water hitting the leaves of the tomato plants and other various green stem, throwing into the air the most pungent aroma of tomato leaves and other herbaceous plants. No doubt about it- this is a very green and woody fragrance. Basil, vertiver and oakmoss are also very present. This fragrance is spicy, very green, woody and remains clean till the dry down. I believe that it is best enjoyed on a hot day to experience all the different green facets that EDC has to offer. I would advise against a blind buy because it has a vintage quality to it.
When I smell EDC I am transported immediately to those afternoons to my grandmother’s garden and my heart aches for this is the first summer that the garden will not enjoy your presence.
The reason that I am debating whether to purchase EDC or not ladies and gentlemen is because I have frame this memory so preciously in my heart and the thought of it being tempered with ever so slightly fills me with horror.

I am not a fan of aquatic, green scents. Eau de Campagne is at this time unique and you can smel luxury. It should project more and have more power. i love the start of the perfum. It reminds me on the my child hood on one green plant. It goes quite aquatic but still have the vintage note to it.

A scent for the hottest summer weather: An uber-green blend of tomato leaves, herbs and bergamot. I don’t pick up the lily or jasmine notes. I think this is an acquired taste that leans nostalgic due to its age.

To open this scent is tomate leaves and musk, fresh and bitter herbatious with no sweetness. I detect lemon, bergamot, thyme, and mint.
Al it settels in there is a subtle sweet warmth with amber under the oakmoss greanery. Reminds me of Eau de Rochas homme but deffinetly unisex.
Its got a certain generic sporty aftershave vibe that I dont love underneth the green tomato leaves. Lasts pretty well, about 6 hr.

I love the smell of tomato plants and so the fresh, bitter, herbal tomato leaf and basil topnote captured me immediately. This is a great, classic green that avoids the pitfall of some other green scents, which is seeming dated or austere–instead it’s a fresh, natural, realistic garden (plants, not flowers) scent, which I even find comforting. The herbal top notes are short-lived and quickly give way to a sweet, dewy, slightly soapy greenness that is very close to skin. In fact, the drydown is sweet enough that I’m surprised some people find this too masculine for a woman– I would say it really is a perfect unisex, but everyone has their own associations with certain notes so your mileage may vary. Performance-wise I wish this scent had better sillage, but the longevity is fairly good even when it’s a skin scent.

Very aromatic, minty green fragrance, totally unisex. It’s like a fresh wave, so well done. I am usually not a fan of green scents, but I must admit that this one is stunning.

I think you will have to be born during 70’s to understand it, as 70’s and early 80’s time was full of similar smells around you, colognes, soaps, bath foam….
I wore it som years ago, I only used one bottle, but every once in a while, if I’m in a department store who carries Sisley, I immediately spray som on my hands and enjoy.
But did anyone noticed som changes in the smell resent years? It started to smell “denatured” in a way or another! Or maybe I will need to wear it for few days to re-understand it ?!
I wish I could find the bath line of it, soap/shower gel/body lotion/deodorant, this will be amazing.

Tomato leaf/stem is one of my favourite garden aromas. This classic EdT showcases it in a lovely and bright, elegantly grassy, mossy and earthy blend of freshly cut green herbs, countryside flowers, oakmoss and subtle citruses adding freshness in the opening. The drydown is smooth, clean and slightly soapy. Moderate projection and reasonable longevity 🙂

This smells great, but to me it’s very much a ‘I am a delicious salad dressing” kind of scent. I want to drink it rather than wear it. I suppose it’s the tomato leaf and basil that make me feel this way.

  19. :

Eau De Campagne smells almost just like Dettol the antiseptic liquid. Very green and very soapy, smells like quite an old school shaving foam/soap.
I enjoy the green elements showing up in the base, but the shaving foam vibe really doesn’t go away…
Not something I was expecting it to be.
If you like Aromatics Elixir kind of green or the original Eau du Soir, like me, this one probably won’t satisfy you.

Green herbal, aquatic. Cool and relaxing, this fragrance really fits its name. Luxury yet so close to nature, I really wish it can last longer, can stay no more than 3 hours on my skin.

  21. :

    4 out of 5

Green, green green – green enough to suit even me with my obsession for green fragrances! This was one blind buy that I will never regret, and its by Jean-Claude Ellena who has created many fragrances that I love. It opens with a sharp herbal note that turns a little grassy, but you get the entire meadow here – grass, weeds, vegetation and a whisper of wildflowers, but it never turns sweet and has a beautiful earthy base. I do wish it had better longevity, lasts about 2 hours on me and stays close to the skin. I’m purchasing the body lotion and shower gel which should improve the staying power at least a little. This definitely goes on my favorites list!UPDATE; I have the shower gel and body lotion now, happy to say it definitely helps the fragrance last longer. I’ve just ordered another bottle of it too, love it that much!

The first fragrance by J-C Ellena? It is also one of his best, at least for me. I really enjoy the herbal-green-freshness since it suits me perfectly here in the hot, humid climate. It is not very long-lasting, but what is here in the tropics where scents are beaten into submission. Just keep on spraying is a perfectly fine solution.
    Completely unisex and a keeper.

I just received this in a swap! OMG.. it is so clean! I love the herbal in the dry down. I find the opening a little bit more of a man’s cologne but non the less i WiLL be wearing this gem.. especially in the summer/warmer months! 🙂

Eau de Campagne is a timeless fragrance that doesn’t necessarily means old.
A great balance of citrus, oakmoss and vetiver that speaks luxury, elegance and calmness.
When I found out the nose was JC Elena, I just smiled.. Unmistakably Elena and it would have been a huge success if it was released under Hermes.
The only downside is the longevity, approx 4-6 hours, but it’s still acceptable…
All Sisley products are very high quality. It’s an underrated brand. I really look forward to a new perfume by them.

On my skin it is very strong and more on the sour side, more manly than unisex I would say. It has great sillage after I shower It’s still there much nicer and airy than the opening. I like it, although It is not my cup of tea.

Im a guy and I love this. Maybe I really pick up the tomato leaves, but to me its very very green almost like wearing a salad. Green notes are my favorite so no cologne can me green enough for me. It’s unisex and I can see both men and women wearing this, but because there is nothing sweet or flowery about this one, its has a more masculine spin to it.
Perfect for summer and hot weather. Its super expensive and that is too bad. I pick it up on eBay when I can and I got lucky recently to find a large spray for $44, It retails for around $150. If it were more affordable it would appeal to more people.
For guys into cK One and Cool Water, I encourage you to give this one a try, break out of the ordinary.

Eau de Campagne in my Skin is a lighter and feminine version from Vetiver from Guerlain!!!
This fragrance is extremely elegant, with a very good longevity and very distinct from the citrus scents that are being launched nowadays.
When you spray, it is very green and sharp, but then a light vintage French herbal smell stays close to the Skin. The Sensation that I have is that I´m on Holidays in the middle of a campagne!
    It´s really divine!

Had modern version of the scent. It was a vegetable garden on me, nice and very familiar-smelling, it lacked soil notes which didn’t make me sad, though. Enjoyed the scent a lot.

  32. :

The opening notes are quite important for me as I love the moment I spritz perfume after a shower . Eau de campagne is too herbal for me , like wet herbs freshly cut and I am quite sure it would be perfect if I were a shepherd wanting sheep to gather around me immedeately 🙂
I like little lambs but I am sure I like grass less than they do .

Tested this again and again and the longevity is really impressive… i put 4-5 sprays yesterday aroung 19:30 and today 9:20 i still smell the perfume and was smelling it all the night during sleep. it is close to the skin but elegant perfumes are not shouting….My wife loves it and reminds her clean fresh cut grass…but this is not in the way of 212 men….the tomato leal supported by lemon and moss are the main notes for me but the mossy feeling is not overpowering making it old fashion in that way. of course the perfume is romantic and a bit dated not because someone can’t wear it today but because this type of perfumes are not produces today.

Wearing this today from sample kindly provided by MrsLetterO.
It smelled lovely in the palm of my hand last night so I sprayed it on neck and wrists today and am now not quite so keen.
At first, a distinct whiff of underarm body odour emanated from my wrist – eek! – I think this must be the tomato leaf which has now calmed down a bit. I mean, I’m not prudish about body smells or anything but I don’t really want to apply ‘Eau de B.O’!
I also immediately detected eugenol and that’s a nono for me. I correctly identified this eugenoly thing as basil – the sole ingredient which also spoiled O de Lancome for me.
As it calms down, though, this frag is not bad at all, I just wouldn’t choose to wear it again as the top of the wearing is just not to my taste.
Update – couple of hours after applying, I just had to scrub this stuff off and replace with something I like – scrubber!

  36. :

This is a sharp green frag which opens with that fresh and green aroma of bergamont and galbanum. This is not unlike Diptyque’s l’Ombre dans l’eau as I can get that ‘tomato on the vine’ smell.
The middle notes soften the composition with a little fruitiness and spicyness but this is not a sweet fume by any stretch of the imagination.
This is a very grown up scent, which is cold and aloof and I imagine that it takes a certain type of person to be able to carry it off.
I would only wear this fume in the summer, as it is fresh and light in the extreme and I feel that it wouldn’t work very well in the cold winter months.
If you love green frags then this is for you.
Is it a keeper? Definitely for me but there is a time and a place for this little masterpiece of olfactory art.
Fabulosity: A fine winter’s morning where the sun reflects upon the thin covering of frost which blankets the ground.

I LOVE this fragrance- it has been my go to much of the last year, even when the weather is not hot, but especially when it is. It’s one of the few scents I enjoy a lot that is also “office appropriate”. It’s so green and clean without any sweet, soapy, detergent like, synthetic ozone or powdery notes- often nice clean bitter green notes turn powdery on me, this one never does! I wish it was available more affordably. It doens’t have the usual common obviously synthetic aquatic note either, but sometimes I do detect a hint of a masculine slightly aquatic note, but it is faint and unobtrusive. I generally dispise aquatic /ozone/marine type aroma chemicals.

I finally kept the perfume and took the risk….and it was the right decision. The longevity, which was the main problem, is more that satisfied finally on me after tasting it some times….even after 5 hours, they still notice the perfume while i pass….The drydown is so nice and infuenced by geranium. At this point, the drydown, after 3 hours or more, reminds a lot egoiste platinum…is the same type of smell although the starting and middle notes are completely different.
Very good choice but not for everyone as is considered weird perfume.

This is a barbershop old type clean smell that slightly reminds me rive gauche pour homme. The perfume is definitely for men, cant imagine a woman to wear this. I first smelled it on a paper three days ago and still smells very nice. Yesterday, i put it on the skin but it seems there are longevity issues. I dont know if the perfume is only for summer but i was smelling it only an our after the application and then, remained very close to the skin. The difference between the paper and on me, is high. I cant understand why because i never had longevity issues that much.
once you apply it, you are smelling the greenest at a high lever with the tomato leaf to be the dominant note. The basil which is at the backround, gives further push to the tomato and the whole thing, is concluded with some lemon. After about 30 minutes to an hour or more, the tomato leaf and basil remain there but the moss i coming into the game and stays up to the end. This moss gives to the perfume the old type feeling and reminds tradition colognes like ysl pour homme. I like this perfume and bought a 100ml bottle but i’m not sure if I’m going to open the box or give it back to the store, not because i dont like it but because of the longevity. The thing is that almost every time i use a new perfume, if that is not heavy, i find my self not to be in the position to smell it, my nose has moods maybe. Once i use it again and again, i realize that the longevity issues are not so big or does not exist. For me, 5-6 hours max, is enough but with this, it seems that the problem is bigger. Even my wife was not smelling anything until her nose touches my skin. Either i have to go to the store to reapply from the tester or give it back. I see as well that there are several longevity issues with this perfume but again, I’m not sure because every skin is different. Millesime imperial is another perfume that does not last for most of the reviewers but on me, last for 9 hours or more. As the price is not low, i have to consider it again. I like it and take the risk, or give it back and loose this type of smell. I like old fashion smell but not powdery smells. I like Eau sauvage, acqua di parma cologna, armani pour homme, rive gauche pour homme which for me is one of the most masculine and unigue perfumes in the market but i never liked habit rouge, amouage gold pour homme, burberry pour homme and other perfumes that remind an old man with powder.

    A PICNIC IN THE 70s.
All of us know how a perfume can work as a time machine, and makes us fly even in centuries never personally lived. Well, I was (almost) five in 1976, and the first spray of E.d.C. immediatly has “sequestred” me back into the garden of the summer house that my relatives have rented that august.
Maybe that was the first time i’ve experimented tomato leaves or the cucumber, or the Vicia faba beans (also known as the broad bean, fava bean, field bean, bell bean, or tic bean, … wiki source), because this perfume has that kind of gourmand-green smell-taste. perhaps my mother or my aunts had a galbanum fragrance typical of those years (blended also into hairspray and shampoos), or maybe this is the green smell of a garden surrounded by pines, I can’t say.
But to me this fragrance is really the Heart of the happy, fresh, disenchanted and naturals 70s, and at the same time it still classically universal.
Yes, what I’m not saying is that this fragrance recalls some other fragrances to me: Eau Sauvage, Calandre, En Avril Une Soir, N°19 , but is less metallic and more “botanical”.
I’m sure this is not that kind of perfume that make people stop you in the middle of a street to ask you what you hell are wearing (I had a bottle in the nineties and i don’t remember somebody has never cared about this fragrance), but it belong to those perfumes that you sniff in private, even if you are surrounded by hundreds of people, for feel safe, protected, and innocent.. well I mean , that is the effect it has on me.

Initial apply is blast of basil and tomato leaves and then tamed by joining of other notes.
    Overall effect is bitter soapy.
This is the only fragrance that doesnt project nor last on my skin.
Launched as unisex but is more on the masculine side.

Eau de Campagne is green green, a bit on a Cristalle way, very sharp and somewhat masculine. Probably an excellent choice for hot summer days, for me it is just rude.
I compared it with Cristalle that is synonymous with femininity in a very subtle way, cause it’s so green. But Campagne is sharp, acts more like Aliage, without its beautiful dry-down. I’m into green, but this is definitely not my cup of tea.

Very fresh, crisp and clean, but just too ‘flat’ and a little masculin too.

bitter green herbal fragrance with highly expressed notes of tomato leaf, basil and lemon and with a mood of elegance and joy. More interesting than wearable on my skin (longevity is about 3 hours for me). I don’t like basil in perfumes so this time I pass. With all my respect to Jean-Claude Ellena.

  48. :

In contrast to the views expressed below, I don’t get much out of this fragrance. Admittedly, it’s quite spicey, but apart from that it’s one of those generic, say-othing fragrances that are probably made for people who are afraid of being caught wearing fragrance. In addition, I wouldn’t recommend it to women, so why is it declared unisex?

This is JC Ellenà how I like him. Apparently simple yet very complex. An incredibly compelling bitter green composition that opens with a burst of sharp bergamot and assorted herbaceous / leafy notes. An invigorating blend made out of tomato leafs, basil, and an extra-bitter geranium note. A perfect unisex fragrance that you will surely dig if you like Cristelle, Grey Flannel or The Unicorn Spell. Among the best in its genre.

This was given to me by someone who didn’t want it anymore. I think it’s too green, too sharp, too much grass and moss. It’s meant to be an unisex scent and so far I did not like any unisex scents. I wouldn’t want this scent on a man either anyway.

This is very green, sharp, sparkling, bitter, vegetal, leafy, grassy and dry. Starts a bit like an old-fashioned eau de cologne, but quickly turns into sophisticated green smell. It works for me as a perfect summer scent. Also I use it often when I want to clear my nose from any sweet, chemical or cloying perfume. It projects well but doesn’t hold for a long time (approx 4h). Excellent quality of the whole line i.e. soap, shower gel etc. Quite expensive. 9/10

In the 1970’s I used to work part-time in a greenhouse picking tomatoes that were ripe. This fragrance takes me back to those times. This is a very green, herby fragrance, but mostly for me it has a strong tomato leaf note that dominates. Very pleasant scent that is unisex and one of the greenest frags in the world

I tried it in the shop, just a few drops, really very little, almost couldn’t smell it – afraid I might not like it and would have to go through a lot of trouble washing it off later on…
Then, after an hour or so, I was wondering which bright, lovely and clean scent it was that I got a whiff of every now and then…..
    It was Eau de Campagne!
Finally a green scent without any tea and without the citrus. Fortunately I didn’t get the lemon that’s in it.
I guess it must be bergamot that helps me to like a green scent…This one really has that fresh ‘just out of the shower’-smell that I do like…I might even like it better then Estee from Estee Lauder.
    It’s on my want-list.

Rolling in clover. The greenest scent I have ever experienced. I do not get any of the floral notes at all. I like it but smells masculine on me. I would probably prefer to smell it on a man or someone with different chemistry to me.

If anyone told me you can get a fragrance cloer to a field than this, I would shake my head in disbelief.
Because Eau de Campagne is the essence of a countryside and all the positive connections with it one can get. If you have ever had a chance to make a picnic on a freshly cut grass, surrounded by a wonderful greenery of herbs and trees, and from a distance admired wonderful, full appled ripening apples, and felt a fresh, warm breeze on your cheeks, thats Eau de Campagne there for you. It combines freshness of the grass with the hint of hay, and it is such a positive, cheerful, yet mature fragrance. Countryside in an elegant version.

Few summers ago I went to meadows placed on high hills surrounding the city where I live. My friends took their three horses and two dogs along with us. We slept in old barn filled with hay, drink water from creek passing near by and cooked our meals on fire in sunset. During day we were cutting grass and collecting hay for upcoming winter.
There is a certain smell I remember from that days. Freshly cut grass, the crispness and greenness of it. I layed sometimes awake in the barn looking through opened window out into still, fresh summer night. Air was consisted from grass, wild flowers and water drops. Dogs were barking out to the unknown. We stayed there for three weeks.
Eau de Campagne is marvelous presentation of fresh and untouched nature. Where the wilderness and peace are one, and you can sit still for hours starring out to the unknown.

For me it’s those kind of scent that you enjoy to sniff but not necessary you want to wear. It’s rather smell of meadow or clearing in wild forrest than smell of tidy garden. When i smell Campagne i imagine mix of grass, flowers, all kind of weeds, trees and oakmoss.
It’s perfume in Terre d’Hermes style (or rather i should say that Td’H is in Campagne style). It’s unspoiled nature. Campagne is mix of weeds and forrest and Td’H is mix of soil and woods.
Perfect, rought hand of Jean Claude Ellena.

i spent some time to love this one because im not really green fragrances, but this one has something very woody and it smeells really the campagne, lands and gardens i love it, but it is not a sweet perfume, it is bitter and has something like when you scrash green it feels really nature, very chypré , it is not a fragrance for shy pepople, it is strong and not for the well thinking who want to be well accepted because everybody smells it like something bizare on me, just a few people likes it

I was hoping to like this one, since I heard so many good things about it. Unfortunatly it showed to be not for me at all.
It become really sharp, brisk and at the same time murky sweet almost with somekind of moldy smell. I don´t know what it depens on, but I now and then have troubble with some kind of green and chypre perfumes. This one is definitly in that chategory.
So I washed it of. A while later I let my husband try it, but I didn´t think it suited him either. On him it wasn´t harsh or brisk, rather quite feiminin and he asked if it was a ladies perfume?
So my advice is to try before you buy. I guess that Eau Campagne can be beautiful on the right person with the right skin chemistry. Not for me tough.

I am enjoying my sample of this fragrance. This is a great scent to wear when traveling on an airline. It stays close to your skin.
One of Jean-Claude Ellena’s early creations. Simple and elegant. Great scent with vegetable accords with hints of citrus notes. This will be added to my collection since I am a big fan of JCE.

Sisley Eau de Campagne reminds me of my granpa-he had shaving foam, you know the one you make yourself with a special short brush-that smelled EXACTLY like this frag. When I tested it in one shop I mentioned that “foam-connection” to the salesperson, and she said the same-smells like homemade old-fashioned shaving foam:))))
not sweet, strict but nice,comfy-leisure, precise smell
I can imagine Sean Connory wearing this one in one of the old Bondiana movies, ohhh or may be even some aristocratic villians in the 007 saga could work it:)
as you may have noticed I think of Eau de Campagne as of male fragrance.
I like it, I wouldn’t mind it on a man, but I wouldn’t wear it myself.

This is a compelling fragrance, without any sweetness. While others have used tomato leaves with great effect, Sisley makes them the centerpiece and star of this fragrance. This goes on herbaceous and remains so, for hours. However, it is not a linear fragrance. The oakmoss becomes more pronounced as the hours go by. If I were completely honest I would have to confess to liking it better at the beginning than at the end. On me it took on a quality that was reminiscent of mushrooms or cheese about two hours in. Still, if you want a very green fragrance with staying power, you want to try this one.

This composition, as befits for a one signed by prince’s d’Ornano family, is really aristocratic – both elegant and nonchalant, a bit superior, at once full of “relax” and sense of humour.
It’s name, “water for the country”, speaks well about it’s vegetable, close-to-nature character.
It should be close for everyone who played in the old, bushy garden back in childhood.
Although Eau de Campagne seems to be suitable for picnics in the country or visiting friends in their suburban mansions on the weekends, it is very universal. One can wear it during the day or evening, but sure it’s too frivolous and lambent for a classic suit or dress.
It matches an elegant sporty style well.
I think this fragrance is ment for people that respect sophisticated, quasi-cavalier style and have an enormous sense of humour. For the real individualists.

It smells like raw green grass, without any sweet or sensual addition. If you want to feel like a bunch of herbs, almost medicinal, get this.. LOL

Could it be more “campagne”? Impossible.
This is completely green! It’s a wonderful fragance if what you want is to smell the countryside, no matter where you are. It’s hay, grass, fruit trees, even stables and herd, indeed!
I can’t imagine anything more green than it. I wish I could feel comfortable wearing it (it must be quite relaxing), but I still feel it’s too much rural for me for the moment.

Now see I thought this felt a little bit more made for a man then a woman.
It’s quite pleasant, but does have a 1970’s men’s aftershave smell to it, makes me remember the way my dad smelled, kind of like Old Spice does.
It does seem quite good to wear for the Holiday season. If I felt like wearing something retro, this would
