Description
“Dear Polly is a love letter in scent to my wife. Black tea, like the brew with which she awakes each morning, immediately warms the skin. Top notes of apple and bergamot create a sense of familiarity, while sensuous musk introduces complexity. Finally, it finds its resolution in a voluptuous spice, as piquantly punctuated as it is seductively honeyed. Familiar and new, comfortable and invigorating, it is a fragrant brew for two: lovers can wear it and recall each other. Even with distance they’re never apart.” – a note from the brand.
Dear Polly by Vilhelm Parfumerie is a Aromatic fragrance for women and men. This is a new fragrance. Dear Polly was launched in 2015. Top notes are bergamot and apple; middle note is black tea; base notes are oakmoss, black amber and musk. The nose behind this fragrance is Jerome Epinette.

I still can’t make up my mind why I don’t like it. It’s high quality, fresh fragrance for daytime. Maybe because to me it projects the image of a high class young woman in her twenties wanting to have casual vibe but wearing luxury brands head to toe, which is noteceable (and not in a good way) and spending her rich parents’ money?
I also don’t like the bottle – too awkward to hold in your hand, I would be afraid to drop it. It’s also sold only in 18ml and 100 ml. I get it why they would like to sell 245 dollar bottles more but that’s precisely what turns me off.
I’ll have to pass.

I will start the review with what I don’t like about the fragrance – the bottle. The shape of the bottle is just, very user unfriendly to say at least. It’s pretty hard to hold and spray in a comfortable way. But the good thing is, this is the only thing I really don’t like about the fragrance.
The scent is beautiful. Black tea, honey and quite a bit of fruit (I don’t get apple though) on me. I originally think this would be more of a S/S fragrance but I am putting this in a colder weather today and find it works surprisingly well. The honey and a bit of smokiness makes it a warm one that may work in slightly colder weather (but probably not in the really cold winter).
Sillage is decent but definitely not the strongest scent in my collection. Longevity is pretty good, I have sprayed it 3-4 times this morning and it is still going strong after 7 hours. Wish the Sillage is a bit stronger so more people can smell this fascinating scent without the need of standing right next to me.
I have to say this fragrance might smell a little bit too sexy for some more mature men. Give it a try before buying a FB is recommended.
Scent: 9.5/10
Sillage: 6.5/10
Longevity: 8/10
Overall: 8.5 (I really love the smell of this fragrance, which makes me forget about the average sillage)

Life changing . . . !

Dear Polly is an incredible smoldering tea scent. I’ve been on the hunt for a good Earl Grey scent for a long time, or at least one with a strong black tea note with nuances of bergamot.
This is steamy and beautiful. Smoky black tea singed with a bit of honey, brightened a little with citrus airness. The apple in this fragrance is subtle and like dried apple — fleshy with a hint of dark green, not thin and aquatic.
There’s a prominent wood note that meets my nose as something between guaiac and oak — really dry and smoky, very well balanced with dark amber in this composition — never setting aflame into campfire territory, just gently smoldering. Along with musk which is also dark, this reads almost like a smoky pipe tobacco note, especially with the moist dark fruit infusion. The hint of oakmoss gives the base a really good texture that weaves in and out. Sometimes smooth, sometimes airy, sometimes mossy with an occasional woody prickle.
Dear Polly is a cerebral scent letter inspired by the founder Jan Ahlgren’s wife. I love the clean depth, warmth and woodiness of this fragrance, the complexity that culminates into a simple, soothing and natural scent. Longevity is great on me lasting for a good 12 hours.

Currently on the tea-perfume quest, I found this beautiful perfume.
It is a wonderful refreshing tea scent (in the opening). Unfortunately, this black tea refresh effect disappears on my skin after 1-2h.
What remains is a very light tea scent and a sexy smokey, dark base. I get 4-5h max. with decent sillage.
I am sometimes a bit irritated / surprised by the smokyness…I love love the tea note, though. I bought the travel size of 18ml for the start because it is an expensive perfume and I do not know, yet what to fully think of the smokyness. Might be nice for bbq or fireplace evenings actually. Update will follow.
Not FB worthy, yet.

I was introduced to the brand by a friend.
Loved the design of their website and the packaging at first site, however, since I do not live anywhere that sells the brand, I had a friend buy blindly for me.
Choosing Dear Polly based on the brand’s official website proved that I bought the right scent, it’s amazing!! The story behind the fragrance is also as romantic as the scent. (Please read on their website and other reports!)
The scent is extremely warm, which is always what I’m looking for in my perfume (note l’ombre dans l’eau or Le Labo scents…etc) Black tea is very prominent, and with body temperature, it smells like a warm, big hug. I love it. My friends and family all adore this scent, been asked a few times on which fragrance I’m using.
Cons: Price tag is ridiculously high and the bottle design proved the be beautiful but very unrealistic. The shape is difficult to get a grip on, so I often fear that the bottle will slip and break.
Anyway, it’s a beautiful fragrance, and for people who love black tea should definitely try. I hope one day they’ll create travel size tubes.

So excited to write the first review! This perfume is everything. It’s sexy it’s classy it’s soft it’s a statement, it is literally so complex and balanced that I didn’t even wait to see what others thought of it before buying! This was a total “i love it and it makes ME happy” purchase. I really don’t know how to describe it other than I cannot stop smelling myself and I love what I smell.
This is more on the feminine and floral side, but the black Amber and musk really ground it with some sexy heart.
Seems like this perfume is ONLY available at the NYC Barneys so if you don’t live close by not sure how else you can test it :/
EDIT: for the pricetag I am VERY disappointed by the longevity and the weak drydown, but it is so beautiful for that first 1-2 hours (closer to 1) that I will let it slide for 1 BF but maybe not again.
