I’m really surprised this doesn’t get more love. Now, I realize the name is misleading a bit as “Dancing on the moon” is not what this evokes in me. However, the scent itself is very pleasant. It’s a pretty white floral. Nothing more or less really ( to my nose) but I do really like the floral blend. If you like white florals give it a try.

I wanted to review this again, as my feelings on this have changed. I still like this; I mean, to me/on me, it is heavy white floral and yellow floral, and those notes seem to more often than not net an instant, automatic love for me.
However, since I had this when this was new to the masses, and I recently pulled this one back out from my fragrance stash, I have discovered that Dancing on the Moon, again, I do still love it, but it is not that original like I might have thought. Reminds me a lot of Songes (which I also love) and also Poeme (which I also love). And imho, there are many other fragrances similar, as well. I do like this, but to me, it does not warrant the hefty price tag….Yes, I do still love the clean fresh scent of this, but again, this is just not very original to my nose/on my skin. And for the price of this, why can’t Maison Martin Margiela include caps for their perfumes..?!? lol..
Anyway, I do love this, but..many similar fragrances..and many in prettier bottles and at better prices. So sorry to bring up the price, but imho, at this price point, you better be more original……and include a cap for your fragrance!! LOL 🙂 Have a nice day!! xx

Oh I picked the aldehyde in the immediately. Reminds me of Chanel No5.
Most women would ‘like’ this one but it’s a pass for me.
I love the By The Fireplace the most.

All I got from this was a unpleasant metallic artificial floral scent. No thanks.

Synthetic, musky / cashmeran / frangipani sweet opening, not necessarily in a bad way though. Something a little minty or cool going on when smelled from a distance? Is there such a thing as camphoraceous aldehydes? Maybe this mint/camphor is an attempt at fleshing out the top notes present in many real flowers in the white floral category, similar to Tubereuse Criminelle’s use of mint or Carnal Flower’s use of eucalyptus. I don’t remember this camphor top note in real frangipani but it’s been a while since I sniffed one. The frangipani (or moonflower/datura/jasmine) is not perfectly realistic but it is pretty well rounded, with a slightly tropical fruit aspect (salted ripe mango?) and an indolic base. There is a nice cuddly cashmeran and slightly salty (ambergris?) musk that reminds me a lot of Calvin Klein Reveal. Overall I think this brand is overpriced and uses too much ethyl maltol and other synthetics, but I actually kind of like this soft, quirky floral.
Edit: Testing this against Datura Noir, the florals are similar though the MM is lower quality – so Dancing on the Moon is a datura floral, not a frangipani. There’s an almondy quality to both.

I’m surprised by the notes on this one! On me, it smells like sweet creamy vanilla, sugar, and not much else but perhaps a hint of musk. It’s soft and well balanced, and more than anything feels comfortable. It’s nearly gourmand for the first hour. I can see the comparison to Hypnotic Poison, it’s just missing HP’s sort of dark and bitter edge.
As it dries down I smell a touch more jasmine and a bit of amber, but the primary notes remain vanilla and musk. A light and sweet musk, certainly nothing animalistic.
It’s projection is light, it doesn’t last a terribly long time, but it’s sweet, approachable, and very ‘huggable’. I can picture it on almost anyone at anytime.
Is it full bottle worthy from my perspective? Hm, if I saw a great deal on it I think I’d go for it as I enjoy scent and the bottle, but I’d not pay full retail price for it as it doesn’t last and it’s just a touch (loathe to use this word) basic.

This reminds me so much of Christian Dior’s Hypnotic Poison and they both smell just like root beer to me. I really love the Replica collection of perfumes, but this one is not for me. It’s quite heavy and intense. If you like Hypnotic Poison, you might enjoy this though.

Notes from the MMM website: aldehydes, moonflower (night-blooming datura), jasmine, ambergris, musk, vanilla. Though an alternate retail lists frangipani tree as well? Who knows what the notes for this one are…
This fragrance is peculiar yet approachable. The opening brought to mind a light licorice, but beyond that I’m having trouble recognizing what I’m smelling here, other than perhaps a creamy floral rounded off with à la lab creation (in a lovely sense!). I wonder if there were any new or different synthetics used to create this scent. The family member I was shopping with smelled it on me after I sprayed it on myself and had to know what it was to go spray it on herself before leaving the store. This fragrance makes me want to smell the moonflower/night-blooming datura to compare to see if it’s anywhere close to this, or if it is a fantasy note. It’s interesting and pretty, worth a try to curious noses or people looking for a lovely scent that isn’t going to be instantly recognizable.
solomets57 – :
It smells like plastic! mostly like a walk on moon! metallic musk airy and mineral water. some iris and jasmines, but no ambergris. I can sense the frangipani as well.
It’s ok, but kind of meh.

I am a little surprised at the reviews for this, they seem to be all over the place, with liking and not liking, and the descriptions. But that is the ‘beauty’ of fragrance, can be so individual to so many.
For me, this is clean, refined, a little modern feeling, a very slight edginess to this, and a wee bit of sexiness in the background for good measure. To me, this is a light fragrance. I am surprised to see this voted as mainly a Fall/Winter fragrance, as for me, this screams Summertime, or even Springtime. For me, this is mainly a daytime fragrance, but could easily be carried over into night.
Definitely unisex. For me, this is what I wanted D&G Light Blue to be. To me, D&G Light Blue sounds wonderful by so many reviews and the notes, but D&G Light Blue ends up smelling..sour, maybe..?–on me. This Dancing on the Moon is what I ‘imagined’ Light Blue to be, but even more refined. Classy and clean.
To me this is a fragrance you really only notice once the person has already passed you by and you are left wondering, ‘what is that fresh clean scent..?’–not realizing it was a perfume. So, this is not heavy, at least not in my book.
Crisp and clean. Fresh and refined. Light..airy, and refreshing. Not heavy at all for me. Sort of a ‘just showered’ scent to me. I totally LOVE this, and have been savoring every little drop of my sample of this one!!

Reminded me alot of Mugler’s Alien. Not my thing

Despite what I would consider a somewhat misleading name, this is a good fragrance. It was wholly unexpected, but I really enjoyed it. With its name and dark bottle, I was expecting something quite ethereal, deep, perhaps even effervescent. I knew from card I got with my sample that there was jasmine in it, and that’s all I knew.
Needless to say, I was very surprised to find this to be a frangipani scent. It’s definitely one of the nicest frangipani scents I’ve smelled, but I would never have thought that would be the dominant note. The jasmine and cashmeran make the frangipani even more warm, rich and full-bodied. It’s like a hug in flower form, but not one that’s overbearing.
Frangipani fans, definitely try this. It may quickly rise to the top of your favorites. I don’t think I will need a full bottle of this but I’d be quite happy to wear the scent if I owned it. It’s simple, yes, but charming and sweet.

Smells like Barbies.

I received a sample of this yesterday and I’m going to need a full bottle stat.
This is a sweet floral to my nose, the frangipani and jasmine are intertwined beautifully, while the cashmere type note kind of rounds it out, no sharp edges or spice here. Underlying is a fresh, clean base, not really crisp or soapy. If you’re looking for a heavily layered classic, this is not going to be your perfume. If you just want a clean, soft beautifully done floral with a decent lasting power you may want to give this a try. (over 5 hours on me! That’s insane, I never have perfume last that long!)
If I were to compare this to anything I might compare it to Jasmine Rouge by Tom Ford, but frankly I’d prefer this one. It’s got Tom Ford beat in terms of sillage and longevity, especially for the price point.
A previous reviewer said it was more feminine than masculine (paraphrasing), and to my own taste I would agree. There’s not much here that I would consider a “masculine” type scent, not sure why it’s even marketed as such. To each their own though. 🙂

Essentially, Dancing on the Moon is nothing more than a nondescript floral from start to finish…it’s similar to Flying after the Neroli Portofino-inspired top notes wear off.
Gender-wise, as a male, I would be hesitant to wear it, and I’ll wear almost anything. It’s almost matronly and smells the most antiquated of the 4. It’s also the most linear of the Fantasies line with little evolution or depth beyond what you can smell when it initially comes out of the bottle.
Much like the others in the Fantasies collection, for an EDP it is lacking…it barely makes it to the 2-hour mark without it becoming a skin scent.
2/5…and I’m being generous.

I can’t wait to try this!! Sounds so good.
