Description

Jacques Bogart is launching a new fragrance to reveal secrets of Arabian nights through an oriental-fougere-musky story which begins in 2010. This intense composition as bright as the sun aims at man who seduces and attracts attention.

Dark flacon of Arabian Nights is decorated with a golden top and letters, which accentuates the precious and luxurious composition. Its outer carton is also a combination of shiny black and golden nuances. This mysterious Arabian fairy-tale begins with spicy aromas of cardamom, cumin and petit grain. A passionate heart is a blend of patchouli and precious wood, while the essence of Arabian Nights is rounded up with white musk, cedar, vetiver and moss.

Jacques Bogart Arabian Nights has been available since 2010, as 50 and 100ml EDT.

A strange Arabian Evening followed by an enchanting Arabian Night
As a goal, I believe that Bogart’s house intended to bring the arabian nights warmth and grandeur from the caliphates and emirates, or at least, a scent to match our imagination about that theme. I don’t think Bogart has been successful in that attempt. You clearly perceive two distinct phases in the perfume evolution: A smelly Arabian evening followed by a scented Arabian night.
This fragrance deserves a more detailed note analysis for us to understand the “why” of its evolution in two separated phases: the smelly and the scented stages.
HEAD and HEART ==> In the powerful opening, the blending is based on strong accords of cumin (probably caraway variety), petitgrain (bitter essential oil extracted from the orange tree green leaves) and cardamom.
The strong and persistent petitgrain is the main responsible for the noted similarity mainly with Amouage Reflection Man and with Le Male in a lesser extent. However, when combined, the cumin and cardamom notes may develop a strong animalic scent. Cumin is a pungent bitter-sour spice note that sometimes (namely combined with cardamom) may be associated to the sweat scent or to the pee scent. Used with care, It can highlight the fragrance creation like no other. Nowadays is often used to render an intimate, animalic note in absence of a recognised animalic ingredient like civet or castoreum. Cardamom can be intensely sweet, resinous and aromatic. Combining this intense aromatic resinous note with an animalic one, amplifies the effect. It’s like singing from a distance or close to the ear. You will certainly enjoy the melodious song sung from afar, but you may reject the song that has been screamed in your ear. I do belive that Bogart’s aim has been to ensure this loud animalic accord would endure the entire evolution, but it resulted in a strong punch in your nose, all the way through the head and heart developpment, and only eased up during the sweeter bottom and drydown.
This pungent scent effect makes Arabian Nights to be the most polarizing fragrance of the fragrance community. You do encounter fierce haters cursing this perfume, or people madly in love with it. More than half of the haters claim this perfume to smell like pee in the top and middle stages. More than half of the lovers are quite enthusiastic about the strong animalic accord.
HEART ==> In the heart, one also feels incense (yes, more incense amplifying the animalic effect), woods, floral accords and patchouli.
BOTTOM ==> At the base we get white musk, oak moss, cedar and vetiver. At this stage, and during the dry down, there is a slight added sweetness that some people attribute to tonka or vanilla. When reaching the bottom stage, the fragrance twists from an aggressive scent into an almost alluring, enchanting and persistent aroma.
The general feeling you get from the animalic side of this fragrance is a synthetic and unatural one, instead of a medicinal scent as it is usual in so many oriental fragrances with oud. The output is intense and full of incense and, when applied on your skin, the fragrance doesn’t change much during its evolution. Mostly it revolves around the cumin/cardamom combo and added musk later on in the bottom phase. This perfume is not an easy one to please and a large voter base may be prodigal in “tens” and “zeros”.
There are several comparisons between Bogart’s Arabian Nights and Amouage Reflection Man. Both are similar, but Reflection Man is sweeter and less animalic. An Amouage lover will never admit such similarity, but the resemblance is pretty obvious.
If you seek an arabian dark oud note in Arabian Nights, you are just wasting your time. No oud is listed and there isn’t any in the fragrance composition.
The bottle is very pretty, and although bears the same Bogart visual identity, it looks and feels nicer and with better quality than the other Bogarts. Both projection and longevity are huge. In my opinion, Bogart has been able to launch a fragrance close to the niche segment, but let’s respect the proper proportions.
Let’s check the math for Bogart’s Arabian Nights:
    – Scent opening: 5.0 (I like animalic notes as loud as in this fragrance)
    – Scent drydown: 8.5 (the drydown is actually quite nice)
    – Longevity: 9.5 (up to 12 hours – 3 sprays)
    – Sillage: 8.5 (up to 6~8 feet with almost 3 hours of projection – 3 sprays)
    – Uniqueness: 9.5 (It’s almost unique. I took 0.5 due to the similarity with Amouage Reflection Man.)
    – Versatility: 4.0 (be very careful when choosing the places where you are going to wear this perfume; on your own at home it’s a very good choice)
    – Wearability: 7.0 (adequate for cold weather, so during Winter and Fall; Use it in a warm day only when visiting your mother in law).
    – Compliments: 3.0 (actually some people like it all the way, and many enjoy the drydown)
    – Quality: 8.0 (a bit synthetic; good quality flask and sprayer)
    – Presentation: 9.0 (quite nice and better looking than the other Bogarts)
    – Price: 9.0 (100 ml non tester for 19 Euros)
    Average: 7.36 / 10.00
    – between 7 and 8 = above average;
    – between 8 and 9 = recomended;
    – bigger than 9 = don’t miss it;
Advice: DO NOT blind buy it! Actually have your eyes wide open (I mean nostrils) when testing it. Whenever you want to ride alone in a bus or train, apply 10 sprays of Bogart’s Arabian Nights on a hot summer day.
I only review the fragrances I like. With Bogart’s Arabian Nights I am expressing an opinion about a fragrance that I still don’t realize if I love or hate it. This duality makes me feel uncomfortable with this fragrance, or even disappointed. Two things I know for sure, is that Arabian Nights will never provoke any compliments and that my wife will never use it.

    @ mshilov
    I agree with mshilov.
This a very good true Oriental and if it smells like dog pee or sheet (I have seen this written elsewhere) that dog is worth a fortune.
Yes it’s love or hate! I love it!

So bored with the last reviews which are highly subjective, so I wanna stress again that it definitely does not smell like piss or shit (sorry), it’s a beautiful dark oriental with defined animalistic notes which can be almost unbearable for those who are used to safe and fresh masculine scents. This one is not safe. But even the name does not mean safe office style fragrance. It’s not for the first date or theater as well – too strong. It lasts almost forever, don’t trust those who say it’s weak or lacks longevity. Sillage is enormous. So use it first in the shop or where you can try it – just for yourself – to understand if you like it or not. It’s 100% love-hate fragrance, but this quality makes it interesting and unique. And what I like about it is that it might be weird, but it’s not sugary sweet like many middle east fragrances or those pseudo-orientals from Paco Rabanne, etc. It’s very sexy, in the most natural way, if you know what I mean.

The worst scent I’ve ever smelt! Fecal Notes, with a bit of wood and spices , it gave me an instant headache. I’ll be ashamed to wear this in public. I had to washed immediately but I think lasts for a long time, definitely more than 6-7 hours with huge silage. I don’t know why it’s been called Arabian Nights, it definitely doesn’t smell like an Arabian perfume or with something you would like to wear in Middle East!

  5. :

    5 out of 5

I must say, this one is a disappointment thus far. Soft, rotten sort of floral scent and not in a good way at all.
No longevity. Lasts perhaps 4 hours on my skin, if that.
No musk, no woods, no spices.
Weird and not worth it, sorry.
It’s NOT strong, not in scent profile, not in performance.
Tip for the reader: caveat lector. Do NOT go by these reviews.

This is a review for the WOMEN’S one.
What a misleading name!! This is a fresh lily of the valley scent. Smells almost identical to Dior Me, Dior Me Not. In saying that, it is pleasant. However, I was expecting Samsara by Guerlain or alternatively something heavier and more Middle Eastern smelling.

Just bought this one today. First it smells like a pee. Afterwards this transforms into a scent of some kind of a floor cleaning fluid with slight touch of fecal notes. I don’t understand how a good list of ingredients could have been mixed in such a peculiar way.

Some of these reviews are funny. Arabian Nights does not stink to my nose, it’s rather light. Compared to some of the animalic sillage monsters I own it’s rather tame and pleasing. I prefer a strong animalic to most scents I encounter and some are over the top and have slight differences but I still wear most of them alot. Arabian Nights is spicy and a nice cheap one. I like the Bogart house and have the first formula of One Man Show and like that one too. If you want a nice spicy scent with some interesting charm that is very different then your typical cologne guy stuff this is an easy one to obtain for a cheap price, some of my faves I own were 250+ , not full price by any means, that’s around 450-400-350. In the niche game I see many losers, by that I mean the fragrances themselves are not worth it, not utter trash but price+ smell+ longevity it adds up to not worth it for something really not that unique, but there are those occasional gems that are loves for sure and I am happy to own them. If you compare Arabian Nights to Salomé for instance or compare Arabian nights to some Ajmal’s I own then Arabian Nights is easy to wear. I guess my point is, don’t be discouraged by some of these reviewers, make up your own mind, this one is cheap to get, it won’t be everyones fave but some people will love it for what it is, another fun flanker in the already fun Jacques Bogart line. And if you hate it then send it to me.

Beautiful. Opens up with a divisive, polarizing assault of funky spices before drying down to a sweet lingering musk. It’s not for pretty much any work environment, but on weekends, it has become my guilty pleasure. You’ll get musky whiffs for 10 + hours, even when you’ve been outside playing in the sun. Neither my wife nor my sons seem to like it, but they don’t complain, either. And I love it. Risky blind buy, but if you appreciate unusual scents, try seeking it out. Worth several times the price.

    Hola!
I just got Bogart’s Arabian Nights, a blind buy based on a few reviews here.
So I spray a squirt or two and sniff sniff, what is that?
I’m reading the notes and I see NO cumin listed.
    Oh well.
If you want to be appreciated wearing this sauce
take a walk thru east L.A.
You’ll be liked and possibly asked which
    restaurante mexicano you just left.
This ain’t chili or tacos, not burritos or
    empanadas, it’s enchiladas mi amigo.

I thoroughly enjoy Jacques Bogart and own a few.
Their power can be countered by understanding it and using less and most of them dry down after a couple of hours to be the delights that the first half an hour would never suggest.
Arabian Nights is the odd one out for me.
I appreciate Eastern fragrances and have a liking for oud but Arabian Nights is something else.
A tiny amount is too much with this one. Half a spray to your diaphragm area under layers and outside in the freezing winter is how I think this should be worn.
A cloying leather car freshener smell is how it works on me right the way through.
Sorry Jacques Bogart. This is a rare one of yours that I dislike.

I have heard the name `Arabian Nights` before – in connection with Jesus del Pozo – but I can`t compare as this is the only AN I have smelled to date..
I wouldn`t associate this scent with the word `arabian` instantly, although it is definitely be spicy so it does make sense after all – caraway, cardamom, pepper.. The woody notes stay underneath the spices and can only be smelled later on towards the drydown. It is strong and somehow as I was sniffing it on my arm I was thinking that if I closed my eyes I`d probably think of a shop somewhere in the near east, where this guy is working all day with local groceries and wears some woody and musky perfume he borrowed from his dad or his brother and by the end of the day the smell of spices of the grocery shop sticks on top of this and as he`s walking home at the end of the day this would be the scent that I would come across as he passes me by on the street. And in general, if I smelled this off anyone, it would certainly raise my interest and I would ask them what is the scent they`re wearing!
I somehow think that even girls could wear this – or women to be more precise – because of the musk which is also prominent here..I bought it for my fella – I found a 100ml bottle at a mere 20 euros, which is reasonable enough for a potentially spicy perfume – on him all I smell is spices, on the other hand on myself I smell mainly musk!
To sum it up: certainly different, I would dare say SEXY, doesn`t break the bank and possibly `arabian`..and girls who like stronger scents could give it a try. Thumbs up from me!

I sometimes dream of meeting a woman that is part Charlize Theron, part Famke Janssen, part Bridget Moynahan, part Meg Ryan and smells like Bogart’s ARABIAN NIGHTS.
Well, I already have Arabian Nights 🙂 and my wife is better looking than any of those movie stars :-))

@bww The EDP in the blue bottle is not by Jacques Bogart. See Bigsly’s post below mine. The JB one is the EDT in the gold and black bottle/box.

WARNING: Some companies and ebayers are selling an Eau de Parfum Arabian Nights, and claiming it is by Bogart, but it is by American Fragrances and has nothing to with Bogart (Bogart is nowhere to be found on the box but it clearly says American Fragrances). So, be sure to tell the seller you only want the Bogart EdT or else you might get the EdP by AF, even if it states clearly that you are getting the EdT by Bogart in the description (I saved a screen shot of this). This happened to me on one of the most popular sites for buying scents among us Fragranticans! If anyone has the real EdT and wants to swap it off, in the USA, let me know and I’ll send you my swap list.

My fiends, you are a bit crazy to think it has a stinky vibe, this scent blows of quality and secrets that only magic places can treasures!Arabian nights is one of the most prominent JB scent,a true travel in lands long forgotten by new oud standards! We get the frenzy of a spice market, exotic wood logs drying, burned incense all around the streets and the sweat of a traveler that washed himself with a patchouli gel!The best way to reach such sensations is to spray it,so don’t miss it,guys!

I can’t imagine how it’s possible to wear this. Bought it dirt cheap out of intrigue and it’s certainly different!
Smelling the cap you immediately get the fecal note. It’s synthetic similar to a can of ‘fart gas’. There’s a cloying synthetic sweetness surrounding it which smells like a variety of Febreze based on Parma violets.
You think occasionally it will induce some kind of giddiness so you’ll feel like a dog rolling in fox poo. This mirage vanishes every time and gives way to synthetic nausea.
Spending time learning to appreciate this would probably be foolish as it has nuclear performance and so unfortunately it’s not something you can enjoy privately.

I’ve enjoyed reading the reviews here. I feel some sympathy for a new reader who is reading these reviews to get a feeling about Arabian Nights before purchasing. There are good reviews and bad reviews – and it is confusing. I will try to summarize in order to assist the new reader, as this fragrance is worth it :
For the record, I also did not like this very much on my first try, but there was something in the various stages of the dry down that I found complex and sweet and I really liked it so I persevered. In fact the more I wear it, the more I like it. **Edit : This is now my favourite fragrance of all ***
BUT…. for those reading the reviews below that (over)state the underwhelming scent when first sprayed, they are telling the truth. This is the one surprising factor of this fragrance. Not sure what the initial effect was meant to portray. For me, the initial smell can sometimes be a bit pungent and bitter : woody (leaves & bark) petitgrain and cardimon. These notes are listed as being in the mix, and I assume they are to tone down what is to follow.
Because, just wait momentarily for the dry down, it is a wonderful scent indeed, really very beautiful. I get tonka bean sweetness with it’s intensive balmy, warm, gourmand and intoxicating character of heavenly vanilla. If you enjoy vanilla, this is your juice !

I wonder how some people like @Rerik blind buy three (!) bottles of a perfume bearing the name “Arabian Nights” (!!) and then blame it of being strong and spicy (!!!). There’s nothing wrong with this beautiful scent, but definitely something wrong with some shopping habits.

Just as Riviera Nights, this one was also released in 2010 by Jacques Bogart and is part of the line called “nights”, which aims to bottle the feeling of the nights from some particular place in the globe, transporting its user to a place of seduction and sensuality.
In this creation, the aim was to bring the warmth and opulence of the Arabian nights, through a composition built by output notes of cardamom, caraway (from the family of cumin) and petitgrain (which is the essential oil extracted from orange green leaves). In the heart of the fragrance, incense, hardwoods, floral accord and patchouli; at the base, white musk, Moss, cedar and vetiver. Some say that there is vanilla or tonka bean on the bottom too.
As with Bogart Story Red, Arabian Nights has a more pungent aroma, those who scare right off the bat. In the first one, the tone is medicinal, whereas in this one, the nuance is more like something synthetic and plastic. The output is intense and full of incense and the fragrance doesn’t change much during its evolution on the skin. Mostly revolves around the heart notes and, after a few hours, the musk begins to appear. Unlike Riviera Nights, this one isn’t so easy to please.
In addition, there are numerous comparisons between Arabian Nights and Reflection (niche scent from Amouage). They say that Reflection is even sweeter, but they are very similar. But the truth is that the elitists will never admit such similarity, which is silly.
And another note that I do is about the criticisms I’ve read regarding the name of the fragrance, because there’s no OUD in the composition, so there’s nothing of Arabic. Pure stupidity!
The Arab perfumes became famous worldwide because of its exotic notes of spices and, mainly, high quality incense such as frankincense. The agarwood is not so old in perfumery and became a trend a few years back. So, in my opinion, the name was very well chosen for the proposal of the fragrance.
The bottle keeps the same visual identity of the line and both projection and longevity are fantastic. Within the limited freedom of creativity of designer perfumes, Bogart was able to launch something very close to the niches, saved the proper proportions.

    This is surely original.
But not in a good way.
This is not so musky as people says. I wish there was more. And if it is fecal is not in a round smooth way but in a pungent astringent way. The Petit grain and cardamom fight with the other notes and they unlukily win. Unbalanced.
    No arabian at all.
Not a sane blind buy choice.

Grapes and animal notes. Take the fruity, sweet grape sensation from Silver scent and add it to the animalic, fecal notes of Kouros or Joy. Voilá! Arabian Nights is a very exotic fragrance and it pleases me so much! It is a pity I cannot find it in Brazil! I love this kind of scent! It belongs to the same Bal à Versailles, Kouros, Joy and Jicky big family. Not that they are similar in smell but in dirtiness and sex appeal. They are so human, nasty, luxurious and decadent!

Extraordinary alien in a men’s perfume universe: opulent, dark, luxurious. Sexy but not sugary sweet like modern creations by Paco Rabanne etc. Sillage and lasting power are amazing. The perfect enveloping evening fragrance for a night out, can be also worn with a business suit by confident men who know how to wear Egoïste, Yatagan, and Joop! Homme.

Welp.. I have to say all you fine folks here at Fragrantica have inspired me to maaaadness..and what a fine madness it is…after hours of reading many interesting, amusing and occasionally puzzling reviews here ( this site provides endless entertainment and information- to the originators a huge bravo!) I threw money at Ebay/Amazon and was rewarded this past weekend with the arrival of 9 different fragrances plus another bottle of my beloved Encre Noir (still battling it out with Fahrenheit to be my signature fragrance).. 4 of those joys were from The House That Jacques Built- Bogart’s One Man Show Gold,Witness,City Tower and Arabian Nights. While I believe there can be a correlation between Cost and Quality, I don’t find that same correlation between Cost and Pleasure; more buck does not always mean more bang and happily for me the Bogart offerings prove to be both very reasonable and very enjoyable. I was expecting the One Man Show Gold to be the Thermonuclear Experience;indeed,I was looking forward to it the way you anticipate the wildest coaster at a Six Flags Park. However, though it was definitely satisfying(review to come) the true Radioactivity was found in Arabian Nights. I began cautiously with 4 light sprays to neck/elbow crook and immediately got punched in the face with musk; for a moment I saw money swirling down the drain . But just a minute or 2 later I was enveloped in a wonderful, warm spiciness that still remained rooted to the ground by the patchouli and wood notes; I have no idea what petit grain smells like but I assume it was in the mix somewhere. The musk was loudly sweet at first, but as the night moved on it calmed down to a soft hum staying fairly close to my skin while the spices/woods floated on top and radiated out into the air. The 4 sprays lasted most of my 8 hours at work;next time I’m going to be more liberal with it and hopefully get more time and projection. Arabian Nights proved to be an utter delight and a wise buy; I know I’ll wear it often enough that I’m already putting another bottle into the basket at Ebay and feeling it’s a moderate sum well spent.. on that note I will admit there is a price point at which the bottom of the barrel is being scraped and there is no joy to be had .. in a fit of whimsy I purchased something called Tarragon Noir on Ebay for the dubious amount of $2.75..I can recommend it as a very effective paint remover simply because any self-respecting paint would throw up it’s hands and run away screaming… have a faboo night, all, and Caveat that Emptor ..

I want to start by saying, this is unique. The musk is immediately identifiable even in the first boff of this fragrance. The cardamom is there but in my opinion gives way to the musk after about 15 minutes of application. Yes it’s musky to the point of sweet stickiness and yes it’s incredibly potent, but not forever. Wait for the dry down on this bad boy and you’re in for a world of warm comforting sexiness. The sprayer sounds like a deodorant can spritz, this sprays like hose.
    I like it, 7.5/10.

The first time was a shock. To my nose it was a flash between an oriental axilla, and spick & span (Powder detergent for floors)
I still not sure about to how classify this fragrance.
The reason must be that this creature is not complete.
If there was a story about a fragrance launched on the market by mistake because not totally finished yet: I would say “must be Arabian Night!”
As perfume it’s a bit Naked, experimental, or a parfum deprived of some elements, some arms.
In fact it reminds me Silver Scent, but distorted, cutted, and stretched somehow.
But someway (as I bought it by mistake, I saw it on ebay and I made confusion with Arabian Nghts by Jesus del Pozo ones, that I wanted because of the listed notes!), I was courious to wear it in public even to see the reaction of the others and to give it more chances. So now I get used to it, and, well, I have to say that seems to have beside you an oriental friend, and the name should be “indian days” cause of that smell of those seeds that you are offered after a lunch into an indian restaurant, or the smell of indians fornitures. can’t say exactly. but those impressions you know?!
I admit i don’t wear it often, but (as uncomplete) I found a mix with another fragrance that works a lot..
Now I like. And I have compliments. I suppose you have to get used a bit to this fragrance. Like the eyes in the dark after a lighted place. It is weird but intriguing.
I have found a proper name for it: Sinister Spices.

A sickening sweet composition overloaded with white musk. Some have compared it to Reflection Man. Well, take every good quality of Reflection Man, invert them, and amplify them and you’ll get Arabian Nights. Sweet, plastic, linear and unbalanced. Avoid!

  39. :

the fragrance Arabian Nights by J. Bogart is an average scent with little layering and lacking plasticity in its heart. The first opening when You spray it on Your wrist, reminds me of Silver Scent, then it changes immediately to its predominance of its woodsy notes. Notes that I expected to be much much stronger for a fragrance that bears its name. More woodsy notes and more fire and plasticity would have been lovely. All in all a little disappointing but still a fragrance You can wear on a nights out dressing an elegant black blazer combined with light blue jeans.

At first I always thought Bogart fragrances were very cheap and not worth buying. I always categorized them as the fragrances found in supermarkets etc. But out of curiosity I tried Arabian Nights. I was very impressed and it blew my mind. When you first spray it, it smells awful. But, give it 5 mins and you got an awesome fragrance. Now this is the only thing that I wear all the time. Its not only awesome but light on your wallet too.

it is realy beautifuk and arabian romantic scent, but unfortunatly it is really weak, i think it is too weak maybe to suit occidental norms, nowadays western people dosnt like strong oriental perfumes, but it is reaally long lasting, a romantic arabian nights perfume really afordable and good quality !!
only 45 euros for 100 ml, you must try it !

on updating this cologne as a few have messaged me on this..it suits my hubby who is in his late40s becauce it is strong an mellow,an mannish.however my son 22 is not a fan,as he likes fresh smells ,an this is far from that.
