    70-80% L’eau d’issey pour homme
    20-30% Encre noire original
If EN takes you to a damp rainforest,
ENS will take you to a national park with lots of flowers (strong L’eau d’issey resemblance)

Does this remind anyone else of Ralph Lauren romance?

EN is gold, ENS is copper, both conductors but we are on different levels. Grapefruit and aquatic notes do not do well with vetiver. Mostly I feel (too much) citrus fruits and cashmere wood and the bond is not the best.
Honestly, for the summer, there is much better.
    Verdict: 5/10

Absolutely wonderful for what it is! We’ve all been flankered to death by the likes of D&G, Chanel, etc., but I am here to tell you that Nathalie Lorson and the folks at Lalique deliver flankers with purpose in a way that few others do.
As has been pointed out many times already, all the Encre Noire entries represent a clear and nuanced variation of a consistent theme, and should never be mistaken for otherwise. Where the OG Encre Noire is dour and dark in its cypress-induced moodiness, A L’Extreme is more rounded and sociable, bringing to the foreground an exquisite vetiver. Likewise, EN Sport brings an uplifting grapefruit/bergamot combo that really sings. And like its fellow flankers, you still get that cypress and vetiver Encre Noire DNA as it dries down, only modulated differently in each case. To me, taking that original DNA + modulating it into a variation unto itself is what all flankers should aspire to do.
EN is brilliant, but let’s face it, we can’t all always pull off the Severus Snape bit. And let’s face it, just because it’s great doesn’t mean it works for just anyone. For warmer days and more relaxed occasions (and happier moods), EN Sport really hits the mark. My only complaint is that like most other citrus-forward scents, this one lacks the staying power of the other two. But that is completely understandable and in no way detracts from a wonderful fragrance value. Blind buy safe.

EN: Strong cypress + moderate earthy vetiver (30+)
ENE: Strong incense (that disappears in the drydown) + moderate cypress + moderate earthy vetiver (35+)
ENS: Strong citrus (that becomes moderate in the drydown) + moderate earthy vetiver + light cypress (25+)
The question is: would you rather buy a fragrance you love and that is hardly wearable in public (EN original) or a politically correct version of that (ENS) that you can wear on a daily basis year round at the office?
Despite my love for EN (and strong fragrances), I opted for ENS because EN is really a beast.
That said I may buy EN in the future anyways given the low price point. (That said, EN is primarily a cypress scent with vetiver as secondary note). Same for ENE, which has more rounded edges and makes it wearable in the evenings of cold months…
    Summary:
ENS: all day during fall/winter/spring (possibly summer evenings), the most versatile flanker in terms of uses and ages
    ENE: fall/winter evenings
EN: cold winter days in an open environment
Should you be a vetiver freak, I strongly suggest the following read:

It’s official! Lalique is now my favorite house. Encre Noire Sport is wicked awesome! As we say here in Boston. But truth be told, I held off on buying this flanker because many reviews here indicated it was 80-90% similar to the original with just some added freshness. As the happy owner of the original, which I’ve grown to adore, I figured it made no sense to buy the Sport flanker if they smelled alike. Well, I finally gave in on the advice of a friend here, and I’m glad I did! Although you can certainly detect the original in this, especially in the dry down, it still has it’s own uniqueness. Sport is clearly fresher, more versatile and much more of a crowd pleaser. Best of all, it’s so different than any other “summer” fragrance of the typical aquatics and citruses. It’s the best vetiver-based fragrance in my entire collection… and that includes the original!
As for Lalique becoming my favorite house. The reasons are simple. They have unique fragrances that perform excellent (at least the ones I have) sold at very competitive prices. I own Encre Noire, Encre Noire Sport, Lalique Pour Homme, and Lalique White. The latter 3 I purchased over the last couple months. Honestly, I could not be happier with a fragrance house. In total I invested about $130 dollars in these 4 fragrances. Dior, YSL, de Marley, Tom Ford, Creed, and other ‘leading houses’ should all be ashamed of what they’re bringing to the marketplace compared to Lalique which offers beautiful fragrances at bargain prices. I know this reads like a Lalique shill or something. I just want to give credit where credit is due.

As the owner of original EN,I like it,of course, and I don’t see the point of extreme version, really, and I don’t want to know how does it perform,as the original one is phenomenal on my skin, but that is the problem.I miss a little bit softer vetiver,as Sycomore,or Diptyque Vetyverio(I found them pretty similar),and then we come to Lalique sport version, which I decide to blind buy,and I think I’m not gonna regret it.I think it’s going to be pretty similar to Sycomore,at much lower price tag, which is very important, but not more important than the content of the bottle.I think I’m going to enjoy.I’m pretty sure.
    Update….
The juice came today…I was wrong. It is citrus on vetiver, but after that, I get some metallic smell, which I dislike.(I had bery similar scent from another designer, but I can not remember which one?)I’m really dissapointed. It is still to harsch…I have too look after Diptyque Veryverio for appropriate softness that will suit me.

Vetiver with a sweet lotion smell, really good, outstanding for the price. Surprisingly similar to Chanel Sycomore EDT and a fraction of the price (I’ve got one of each wrist at the moment). Interestingly the original and L’Extreme versions both have something very inorganic in them that makes me gag but this one is great.

I grew up around motorcycles, racing and motorcycle shops. I decided to blind buy this after reading some of the comments and being curious. Guys, this smells exactly like a dark, cluttered motorcycle repair shop. The mild sweetness of brake fluid and old grease. The unwashed, sweat stained shirts destined to become rags. And just a faint hint of two stroke oil and citrus degreaser by the sink in the corner. Can’t get this out of my head now.
I love it, but not sure how many compliments it may get. It is definitely not big on projection, but my dry skin kills fragrances so that is no surprise. Also, I do not see this as a warm weather frag at all. And it is a bit understated for a full on winter, so not sure when I will wear this. I still love it.
Update: This has me seriously confused, but the last two times I’ve worn this fragrance the dry down has eventually become quite feminine and powdery. I did NOT experience the same thing the first week of wearing. Its as though the base notes have disappeared, leaving the lavender and green cypress. Weird. I’ll give it another shot or two, but if it continues to result in same I’ll have to give it a pass.

Collect some flowers, grass, a pinch of dirt, some rain, and briskly mix and roll all of that in your hands…then peel a juicy grapefruit. Take a big whiff – there you go.
Nothing dirty or dark to smell here. This fragrance is proud to be clean, bright and green and not in a very masculine way.
Very pleasing, optimistic and long lasting scent.

Smells like a clump of spicy-hot dirt to me. Full of twigs and gravel.
Evokes the feel of a public library on a damp day, or a small, old cemetery in the middle of a dirty city.
    It’s a ‘dislike’ for me.

I saw yesterday a tester bottle with a blue juice inside and in the pictures above is grey in color. Have they changed the color, or is this an indication of a new watered down formula?

    My review for Encre Noire
“There’s this little spot in Oregon by Union Creek I used to visit often and in the late Spring early Summer it’s like a rainforest with the weather, Rogue River flowing close by, moss and fern all over and the magnificent old growth timber. Encre Noire captures that damp, deep forest vibe so well it it makes me want to go hunting for morels. Gorgeous fragrance that should cost much more than it does.”
Encre Noire Sport is that same spot when the Sun has come out and things have dried up a bit. Fantastic fragrance and I would actually recommend this before Encre Noire because of its versatility. Check it out!

Out of all the fragrances I’ve purchased, this by far is my favorite in all categories! The scent itself, versatility, siliage, longevity, Price ect. This is almost a perfect fragrace! 9.5/10! I absolutely love this frag! Kudos to Nathalie Lorson and Lalique! I’m buy “at least” 2 more 3.3 oz bottles. Probably more in the next year. Just in case. 😀

This was a risky blind buy. The original Encre Noire is beloved and hated in the community. I came across the Encre Noire Sport with a discount (on notino) for 20 Euros for a 100ml bottle, I was intrigued. Because of the reviews, telling that the Sport variant is a little less heavy and more citrusy… I decided to settle with it.
And boy I am not disappointed.
It is a wonderful scent. Forest earth after a rain captured in a bottle. If you know Beckham’s Instinct… take it and throw some wet earth in it (in a good way) and up the projection + longevity.
And last but not least: The flanker is a beauty, as it always is with Lalique.
The only thing I’m not sure is the color of the parfum. Encre Noire = Black Ink… and that’s how it looks like.
    Stainalarm? Hm, maybe.

  18. :

Encre noire sport is a wetter, fresher and citric version of the original with the ADN of the original in its base.
It is a powerful and uplifting smell with very good longevity and saddle concealed by the playful ISO E Super particle.
I own Franck Olivier’s Black Touch and it seems very little. Black Touch is much less fresh, more spices and a kind of Terre de Hermes spiced.
Encre noir Sport is very good. 8/10.

This was yet another blind buy.. I was looking for a scent that has a nice vetiver note as I have lately got into vetiver based fragrances.. I found this online at around 25 dollars and I was alittle hesitant to pull the trigger.. I’m really glad I did.. But why the sport flanker? I’m not so much into the “dark inky* scents. This has an inky accord bit it’s not strong.. If you really love this scent then I recommend picking up Franck Olivier’s black touch.. it’s a cheap and you can use that on days you don’t want to waste this juice.. Very happy with my purchase.. This will remain in my collection for a long time..

This fragrance is one of only a few that were love at first sniff for me. I really like the original EN, but wondered how in the world there could be a “fresh” or “sport” version of a scent with the same DNA as the “black ink”, which is about as far from sporty as they come. Kudos to Lalique for daring the attempt! Although not stereotypically “sporty”, the opening is pure bliss- grapefruit and nutmeg are a perfect foil to the brooding character of the cypress/vetiver. To me, this combination enhances the fresh woodiness that lurks in the original but often gets overlooked due to the suggestive name and black bottle. I don’t smell any aquatic notes in this- which is a good thing. Maybe just a hint to lighten up the composition. Ms. Lorson has done a masterful job with this one: intensely woody, combination of vegetal darkness and citrusy optimism, fresh and earthy at the same time. It can be worn is all seasons and for most any occasion. A+

One of the best freshies out there. Even those who loath vetiver will find this pleasantly appealing. It has garnered me compliments from both sexes and from colleauges who don’t care much about frags at all. This is a nice, versatile, and very affordable rendition from the house.
(Mind you – I could not care less for the original. This is so much better in my books…)

This sport version smells forest like all the comments below. And i love it. But poorly i need to spritz more than 4 times due to its lack of sillage. And i think maybe it shouldnt named ‘Sport’ . Encre Noir Mild suits perfectly.

    Stalwart and noble.
Being the uncultured swine that I am, I was appalled when I first sprayed this and internally demanded what manner of horse s**t was assaulting my magnanimous visage and why all the reviewers here were playing a nasty trick on me.
But the longer I had it on my skin the more I grew to love it. This is an evergreen forest the day after a severe storm, every part of it, not just sweet parts you would put into a hand soap. It’s crips pine trees, moss covered stones, damp logs, fresh air, and raw soil, everything.
There’s nothing sugary or floral about it, highly masculine but in a noble and dignified sense, not the sort of masculine that makes you smell like a drunken unwashed hobo who soils himself and picks fights with random strangers. This is something an Oxford professor or George Washington would wear.
This is the first Encre Noire I’ve tried so I look forward to trying the more hardcore ones in the colder months. Which, by the way; even though this says “sport” don’t take it to the gym with you. I think they just managed to make a winter weight into something doable for autumn/spring but nothing above 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
If you’re new to this like I am, give this one a chance. A tea drinker will probably hate black coffee if they never tried coffee before in their lives.

In the right weather (spring/rain) this can be an absolute gem!
Though in other circumstances, to my nose, it has proven to be slightly cloying with the grapefruit/vetiver/cypress combination- but that may just be me. Will last well throughout the day with nice whiffs coming and going.
Solid scent. Nothing more, nothing less. Don’t let anybody fool you that’s it’s a game-changer.

I was lucky enough to stumble upon this fairly early into my fragrance journey, and since then I’ve fallen in love with it. What a fantastic scent on its own, and easily the best inexpensive fragrance in my collection. I am astounded you can get this for less than $50 a bottle but very thankful.
This one is much fresher than the original, but still quite dark and brooding at the same time. Lalique managed to capture to the dusky, inky, earthy vetiver heart of the original Encre Noire, but made it so much more alive and natural smelling with the addition of bitter grapefruit and floral accords. I really don’t get an aquatic vibe that some mention here, but overall it smells incredibly woody, green, and cold in a very refreshing way. The scent matches the colour of the juice really well.
It makes me imagine myself walking through a mossy old-growth forest, shortly after a light evening rain on a mid-October evening. The verdant, barky smell of wet trees and earth overlaid with citrus.
Performance is amazing, especially for such an inexpensive, fresh scent. I’ve had people comment on the smell near the end of a workday after only applying it in the morning. I usually go with three sprays because I find this can actually be quite strong.
If you’re looking for a highly unique scent for summer and warmer spring/fall days, this would be a fantastic option, especially for those who want something with a darker, more mysterious vibe.

Making a great cologne lighter, more wearable in spring or autumn, doesn’t make it a sport cologne. It’s a nice suede smell, something to wear when the nights are getting longer, but I can’t detect any citrus, bergamot, grapefruit or other summer, a.k. sport, vibes. Still okay, great bottle, good projection, office safe, but that’s it.

Out of all the Encre Noire Line the Sport smells best to me and I will definitely stock another bottle real soon .
Few days back I was not even aware that Encre brand exist and this perfume is one of my favourite .
Also I sprayed Tuscan Leather on one wrist and this on another both lasted for almost 6 hours .
But both become skin scent after 3 hrs (though Tuscan was more noticeable) .
    Overall for me 9/10 .

  28. :

    3 out of 5

It has a citrusy refreshing opening with bergamot and grapefruit, all the way mixed with fantastic vetiver and cyprus. Fantastic smell, great performance. Best for summer and spring, but I’m sure I can pull it off on a sunny winter day. Quite bright, albeit sophisticated scent. There is nothing like it, very unique. I have this as well as the original. I love them both and don’t see they cross, it’s pretty legal to own both since they serve different purposes, but then I love vetiver, I buy anything with vetiver notes, so next I’m buying L’Extreme. The main issue with vetiver is that it’s quite a dark note most suited for cold winters, but I live in a hot country with hot long summers, so I’m glad there is finally a summer vetiver scent that is fresh without taking from the depth of vetiver.

  29. :

I bought this based on reviews instead of the original Encre Noire. “Sport” doesn’t seem like the appropriate name, but it is an excellent scent. Go light on the trigger. The first time I tried this, I used only 3 sprays and it was overpowering, to the point where it seemed to change its scent. I was about ready to sell it, then tried again a week later, this time with only 1 spray and it completely changed my mind. It is now my favorite vetiver fragrance. Great with 1-2 sprays.
Try this in combination with Coty Aspen.

Honestly it smells like a watered down version of Encre Noire, which to begin with had weak sillage and longevity on my skin. This is even weaker, and I barely detect any of the citrus or watery notes. I prefer the original Encre Noire.

  33. :

    5 out of 5

Encre Noire Sport definitely deserves attention and shouldn’t be treated only as an aquatic version of Encre Noire – rather as a standalone fragrance – IMO.
Starts off super uplifting. This is simply a burst of citrus juice (mainly grapefruit but IMO it’s a mix). That opening bought me. This dries down after less than an hour and starts drying down on my skin in a way I don’t like. There’s too much lavender which smell on my skin like melted crayons. Luckilly this lasts only a while because vetiver comes in and starts to reign. I mean – vetiver is there all the time from the minute 1 and I can detect it easily. However it dominates whole fragrance in the drydown. The rest known from EN (cypress and cashmere wood) is there but makes a woody backbone to the whole fragrance.
Longevity varies – most of the times it’s between 5 up to 10 hours. Projection is poor to medium and the higher it is the higher it is outside.
I would say it’s an unique option for spring and summer. Unlike some I would say it’s a great choice for a hot and humid day as well.

bought this one last week & i was testing it since then…
smell is amazing if you like the original EN, as many ppl said this’s not actually a sport fragrance, but it’s a light & more versatile version than the original EN.
at the beginning i wasn’t impressed because i didn’t notice any difference from the original EN, but then i started to smell the grapefruit note & i admire it.
regarding longevity on me it’s 6-7 hrs only.
i received 3 complements in the first day i wore it.
a quality juice with affordable price (27 $)
    give this one 8/10

Just as incredible as its predecessor but some will say its more wearable. Imagine the original with a citrus note and you have this. It kicks ass in hot weather and garners alot of compliments. If you like the original im certain you’ll like this as well.

This one lasts forever. After first application, I tried to wash it all off with soap, but to no avail. I waited until the next day, took a shower and tried to wash all of this scent off of my body, still the musk persisted. Basically this stuff lasts a long time and you better like it if you’re applying it, otherwise maybe after a week of showering everyday, the scent may dissipate a little. But you really can’t apply a new scent for days after wearing this one, because Encre noir sport lasts for a week of trying to wash it off every day, go in peace

Classical masculine fragrance. Starts off with a freshly grass arome after a rainy day, natural and unique smell on the opening I’d say. Once it settles down / drydown the most prominent notes which I notice are green (certainly it comes from cypress) compound with citrus + lavender

Let me put few words on this fragrance… I decided to buy blind buy this one. I opened it and i sprayed on the wrist, waited a few seconds for the alcohol to go away and then sniffed in few centimeters away from the sprayed spot… I realized this was too much for me, it was just like running in coniferous forest with all that mixed trees in a rainy day all gathered in my wrist… I asked my self how this could be possible to put all that trees in one spray, i was thinking in the same time that probably my fiancee will not going to like it, because i was thinking that it is too out here, but let me tell you something, she came at the room five minutes after i applied this fragrance and without sniffing directly my hand she was able to catch the smell in the air that was lingering in the whole room, but i didn’t noticed that, because i was concentrated how i can pull this thin on without annoying that much the surrounding… She simply said… “This is awesome, i really like how clean and elegant this one is smelling… It reminds me the forest with clean and fresh undertone in it…” Then she asked me if she can use this one as well… I was ..wow.. if she can think that it is appropriate to wear it, why not to give it a try.. So on the next morning i applied it for work and immediately received one huge compliment from my female colleague that she likes a lot this one… Let me open a bit that we mostly work outside, and it was windy winter with fogs that were turning into thin showers from time to time… Then i reapplied it on the next day and on the next day and for all those days she was continuing to give me compliments for this fragrance… In the mean time i noticed that my fiancee started to spray her self with this one… I will tell you that this fragrance is able to stay on her for full 8 hour working day in odor rich environment, this means that in terms of projection this one is really a beast, don’t be confused by the concentration and don’t over spray yourself in order to not have headache, just leave it to linger in the air and see how the surrounding will react… It seems that something that is really hard to understand in the first place turn out to be appreciated from the surrounding… Yeah this is my honest opinion on this interesting and personally quite hard to understand fragrance!

It’s a nice clean fragrance, the first couple minutes it’s a little harsh but once the alcohol wears off the grapefruit and the vetiver comes through, it’s a clean vetiver not too earthy. I don’t personally get any watery notes and I just get a hint of lavender. The dry down is nice but a little to powdery for me, but this fragrance last and last and last. I love the grapefruit and vetiver notes it has made me want to smell the rest of the Encre Noire line and other vetiver fragrances. 8 out of 10 just because I love the grapefruit note. Will this be a compliment monster? That’s a big fat no, this needs to be someone’s cup a tea but I do suggest you get your nose on it cause it is that good. Happy smelling!

I have the extreme version which I love and just received the sport version today. It is amazing!!! It reminds me of a darker Terre de Hermes with less citrus. My wife and I aren’t fans of aquatic’s and heavy citrus, so it’s been hard to find a spring/summer cologne. This is my new favorite warmer weather fragrance. I also have the original coming in 2 days. What a great unique line.

This is my blind buy failure for me. Lalique Encre Noire Sport is a perfect example what might be good by others, might not be good for you.
Last 2 years I buy this perfume at somewhere in Kuala Lumpur for RM200 (considered cheap compared to other brand). A tester unit. I am a picky person and I do a lot of research before buying things. I read all the reviews about Lalique Encre Noire Sport in Fragrantica here before I made my decision to buy. That shop don’t have a sample of this perfume for me to test sniff so I blind buy it.
Upon first spray at home, I realized it is not a mediocre/generic perfume. I’ve never smell anything like this! What I get is an algae smell….like an ocean full of algae. Or you in a forest full of moss. Something like that. And I don’t like it.
I do try wear it to work 3 days in a row to see whether it work for me or not. Unfortunately the smell make me want to puke. I can’t stand this. All day long I have no mood to do when I wear this perfume.
Luckily I managed to trade this Lalique with a Gucci Pour Homme II from a guy in my country. Thank god, or else this thing will just collect dust in my room.
Your experience might be different from me. My advise, do not blind buy & try a sample first if you can.

I dont get why everybody is on about how cheap this is. Where you guys buy it?:) I wish it was cheap here, but in fact Lalique is a very reputable brand here in Switzerland (not just for their parfumes but also for home deco) and the cheapest i could get it was 50 CHF for a tester.
Anyway ecomonics aside, it is a very strong contender in the sport business, definetely something to consider throwing in your gym bag. It blends remarkably well with sweat, which is the number 1 criteria for a sport frag, and also has freshness at every stage to keep you pushing. There is however a difference of its freshness during the opening 15 mins and thereafter. The most dominante of all notes is cleary lime (or bergamot as they list it here, but its more a lime than a bergamot, its a clear, cutting limes for a coronita beach party lime lime) The evolution of the smell could be described as going from a fresh lime to a dirty lime, but the freshness is still there.
The performance is very decent for a citrus type, so yea, in conclusion, if you belong to those lucky countries where its even cheap (where are these countries btw?) do not hesitate, get one and hit the gym:)

Actually when you are on a budget, this is a very nice one. Unique. Smells great, but try before you buy, this is not a safe one, a bit polarizing. I love it. 2,max 3 sprays and you’re done. Very good sprayer.

Well after reading so many rave reviews about this and Encre Noire a L’Extreme I blind bought both and I’m really beginning to wonder if most of them are Lalique employees as I was really dissapointed with them both especially a l’extreme . I am totally obsessed with Encre Noire the original ,it is my favorite all time fragrance . It is unique , it stands apart from anything I have smelled I only wish there was an EDP. when I first sprayed the Sport I thought where is the similarity to Encre Noire , there is absolutely none. You wouldn’t think it reading all the reviews would you . You know I have smelled this smell before …. hmmm what is it ? mmmm BINGO ! it is L’Eau D’Issey pour Homme I swear it is identical . I like it but …..I really wished I had just bought another original . As for the L’Extreme that was even more disappointing on first spray I just got Coumarin really heavily .So I checked the ingredients BINGO ! THERE IT WAS IN THE INGREDIENTS ! Why wasnt it even mentioned in any review? IT TOTALLY DOMINATES THE SCENT! It might as well be Amen (THIERRY MUGLER ) a L’EXTREME or even Adidas Pure Game which is just an Amen copy . Well I hope this was useful to someone . Be warned , I wish I had been 😉

It should have been named Encre Noir “Aqua” rather than sport.
This is very aquatic and seaweed kind of a fragrance.
It is good but I did not like it and it was not as what I expected.
    Longevity is super.
    Update:
I was surprised as I am getting complements from Encre Sport “despite I still dont like it that much”. I think its strong sillage smells better than what you smell from close distance”.

I love this in the summer. Not as interesting as EN. Still an interesting smell and much easier to wear. But not sure I can say more than woody, mossy and watery – not getting those other top notes. Dunno. A firm favourite though, and holy guacamole – the price!
Incidentally, the young woman on Lalique in Fortnum & Mason was having none of it when I said that you could get most Lalique scents for men under £30. She absolutely would not have it that they weren’t fake. She gave me a pitying look when I told her I was going to get my Lion off ebay rather than pay £80+. What a smug tit. Not saying they shouldn’t sell it for that, but their staff should know there arse from their elbow. No?

Good perfume for a great price.
Is heavily based on vetiver, so you have to like vetiver, but there are notes as grapefruit that put this perfume less heavier than expected.
    Anyway i
