Description
The fashion house of Givenchy presents a new exclusive collection called L’ Atelier de Givenchy, which contains seven fine fragrances made from rich raw ingredients that evoke the Givenchy fashion creations and materials. Each fragrance is accompanied by a special fashion sketch. The scents are: Ambre Tigré, Bois Martial, Cuir Blanc, Chypre Caresse, Néroli Originel, Oud Flamboyant and Ylang Austral.
Ylang Austral is a scent that, like Givenchy couture fashion, combines structural precision with freedom of choice of materials. It is described as exotic, chic and radical scent of luxurious woody – floral warmth. It is composed of mandarin leaf, ylang – ylang and sandalwood.
The fragrances are available as 100 ml Eau de Parfum .
Ylang Austral was launched in 2014.

One of the dangers of creating exclusive collections that emphasizes the richness and preciousness of its raw materials is precisely that the final result might not convey this. The perfume can become like Austral Ylang of L’Atelier de Givenchy, so focused that they are incomplete or insufficient in their profile.
The proposal here is to bring the Ylang from its narcotic and dense connotations and lapidate it to show a more sunny and luminous side within a woody floral context. The description mentions the protagonism of mandarin leaf, ylang and the woody creaminess of sandalwood and by following its evolution in the skin is exactly what the perfume offers.
Although very pleasant, the perfume disappoints in this simplicity, even more for something that pretends to be luxurious and to emphasize the nobility of a material. It would be like using a gemstone and giving it costume jewelry treatment. The luminosity conferred on the ylang in the way it is interpreted makes the floral idea stand on the edge of what some of the more luxurious shops use as a room scent: a floral, light and fruity citrus opening followed by a simplified floral body with the creamy floral bouquet made to fill the environment in a pleasant way. This is followed by a musky base with the woody creaminess of the sandalwood well tempered so as not to defy anyone. I see a great room ambient fragrance here, but I have my doubts regarding it as a perfume. I know there are people who love the scent of a store so much they are looking for perfumes that reminds it, I just do not know if that audience is willing to pay more than $ 200 for something like that.

Ylang Austral – a new take on the classic Givenchy Amarige. Modern, feminine, fresh, exotic and not too sweet thanks to the leaf and wood. I love it so much. Unfortunately it doesn’t last long on my skin. To improve longevity I layer it with the original Amarige.

Intense ylang-ylang scent. At first it is very fresh and nice, but unfortunately after a while it starts to be sultry which is typical for dominant ylang-ylang scents. A scent for sultry sirens I guess. Not for me as I like freshness.

Wonderful pure ylang ylang fragrance, exotic and woody…I tried it this morning at Sephora on the Champs-Elysées. I really thought I d discovered the Holy Grail I had been looking for for so long…I have been trying to find an ylang ylang soliflore for ages. But NO! Zero lasting-power! It was all gone from my wrist within ten minutes.
170 euros/ 100 ml…what a disappointment! So sad…
