I keep getting the body products for this scent for Christmas, which is unfortunate as I don’t like it, so I’d better speak up. Very strong vanilla, more vanilla going on here than anything else I have, and I don’t deal well with lots of vanilla as it tends to trigger nausea and migraines. My loss, as I’m sure this is a great year-round treat for many people here!

The vanilla is so strong that I am anosmic to it.

Vanilla Bean Noel is my second signature fragrance, trailing behind Ambre Essence. I love this sweet, warm, almost smokey vanilla and get tons of compliments when I wear it! I usually make my own body spray/lotion out of Vanilla Bean Noel fragrance oil because I think it smells better & stronger than BBW’s, but I never pass up the chance to purchase the lotion from BBW. To me, the vanilla and sugar cookies are the star of this fragrance, closely followed by caramel and more sweet notes, then that warm drydown of musk that I find somewhat smokey and intoxicating. I do not detect any cacao notes at all, or peppermint that a few others have mentioned. I hate that this is marketed as a “holiday” fragrance. I don’t get a holiday vibe from this at all, just sweet, sexy yumminess year around!
Side note: I wonder if I’m not detecting these odd notes like some others because I make my own spray out of VBN fragrance oil. However, I don’t detect any odd notes in the lotion I purchase from BBW.

@ the reviewer below me you are right. I purchased 2 bottles of the old formula and loved it. It smelled like some sort of cupcake. I didn’t want to run out and ordered another bottle thinking that it was the same and it’s not. It barely has any scent and and its just not worth spending money on the new formula.

I posted in the forum a while ago that I popped in to pick up my yearly spray and cream and they reformulated it. The sales person denied any change, but I’ve been buying this ever since the first release. It is watery nothingness now. I put both on my hand and they barely smell like vanilla water and are gone in a flash. This used to be delicious.

Was gifted the fragrance body lotion and shower gel for Christmas 2017. Like many Bath and Body Works fragrances I can’t distinguish any of the notes in this for some reason. It doesn’t smell nice on me or in the bottle. It smells simply fake. However, I know I have smelled this on others and noticed it was a nice vanilla scent. Furthermore, sometimes I use hand soap from Bath and Body Works at other’s homes and enjoy the scent, but when I walk into the store and try things I don’t like any of them. For the most part, I would *like* to enjoy Bath and Body Works, but most of the time their scents don’t agree with me.

the peppermint I read complaints about are gone (thank god) buying this up immediately. I don’t like wearing strong scents in front of my daughter so I want more simple things I can use more every day. cute simple holiday scent. 🙂 Honestly I hate bath and body works with a passion for some reason but when the holidays come I have to pop in and get this.

I have the body cream and I ABSOLUTELY love it!!!
I transfer it into a jar and add Organic Avocado oil and organic sweet almond oil. My skin is extra dry.
This layered with any of my fragrances makes my fragrance smell 10x better. I will definitely stock up on this gem this coming holiday season.

On initial spray I get caramel and vanilla and weirdly enough, peppermint. Or something alcoholic. I don’t know why I smell peppermint in this but even in the dry down I get that. But mostly I get caramel. Caramel all the way. It is so sweet and delicious and men love it. I get so many compliments from male colleagues at work when I wear this. It’s light enough for everyday as it is not heady. It makes you smell scrumptious and sinuous.

What happened to this scent? I used to adore it and so did my wife. We called it our caramel spray. We even used it as a room spray. It had a rich, buttery caramel scent to die for. I bought the 2016 new bottle and it is like a weak green watery sugar cookie now. It does not linger and the caramel is all but gone! Thankfully, the body lotion and cream still seem the same so I wear it paired with Coty’s Vanilla Musk. I wish that Bath and Body Works would change it back!

I loved this perfume when it first came out. It was clear and truly Vanilla Don’t remember the year. I waited about 3 years before purchasing it again and they had changed it to the nasty green stuff it still is today, and added nasty toasted marshmallow to it. Now it’s disgusting and I plan to never buy it again. They ruined it by adding cheap smelling gross marhmellow. YUK!!!!

Gives me vanilla sensory overload:I can’t smell a thing, could be water to my nose.

I buy this every year. Cheap thrills. Love it and don’t care that I smell like a cookie from across the room.
Edit: this has been reformulated and is now so weak it’s not worth a purchase. Save your money.

I’m not going to lie, this one grew on me. It was not love at first sight. I got a gift set of VBN for Christmas and at first sniff wasn’t a huge fan. I gave it another chance and I’m glad I did; it smells just like a sugar cookie. In the past I’ve encountered gourmands that claimed to smell like baked goods but had other notes that threw off the sweetness; this one delivered on the goods. Sweet, comforting, and realistic!

I love this scent. The first time I smell the mist at the BBW shop, I thought it was terrible. However the price was too good during the semi annual sales so I pick up the travel size bottle. After actually spraying it on my skin, the smell started to grow on me and I liked it now.
There’s another BBW Red Velvet Cheer which is also very yummy and when layer with this, it’s totally delicious.

This is very very sweet vanilla and caramel to me. I have yet to get any chocolate or the benzoin I love so much. I love it anyway. If you spray an article of clothing and leave it in a room and come back, oh man, the smell that hits you is pure caramel vanilla goodness. My only complaint is longevity, lasts about two hours on skin but many hours on clothes. I could really eat my own arm when I wear this, it smells so delicious.

Fragrance Review For Vanilla Bean Noel
    Bath & Body Works
    Top Notes
    Whipped Cream Vanilla
    Middle Notes
    Chocolate Benzoin Caramel
    Base Notes
    Sweet Notes Musk
    Joyeux Noel
Vanilla Bean Noel is a delicious and generous gourmand scent. This is a table at the middle of a room in a Christmas party at a hotel ballroom in red and green and white Xmas themed tablecloth and adorned with poinsettia and decked with sugar cookies, chocolates, coffee, little cupcakes and desserts with vanilla whipped cream. It’s a dessert flavored fragrance for Christmas. As such it’s a perfect holiday party Christmas party fragrance. To be more specific, this is a body mist or fragrance mist very similar to those Victoria Secret body mists; or perhaps those indie niche scents like Demeter Fragrance. But this is a more developed and fuller gourmand with good longevity and sillage. I find that it wears long enough (over 5-6 hours) which for this scent is ok. It smells great.
The opening is a vanilla with creamy buttery milky notes that do smell like whipped cream topping over a cake or pumpkin pie dessert. Then you get some of that chocolate and caramel, a cookie, and delicious bakery shop smells. Smells like the interior of a bakery shop and as such it does smell like typical gourmand scents i.e. Britney Spears Fantasy. But while I formerly shunned fragrances like that I now love to wear them especially for the holidays. It’s all about knowing where to wear scents like that. This is a warm chocolate and vanilla based fragrance that suits the winter time in December and will make you feel festive and good around the holidays Christmas parties, office Xmas parties and being with your family and loved ones.
There is a warmth in the dry down provided with musk and for me the vanilla and vanilla bean scent is absolutely delicious, sweet, sugary, and excellent as a scent if applied lightly to come through from your pulse points. Sometimes this stuff smells good in my hair as well. If you can carry gourmand fragrances well check this out. It’s so nice.
    Merry Christmas

It’s magical, I’m totally in love! Creamy chocolate chip cookie with caramel dip and a hint of benzoin and musk. On clothes it lasts all day, but on skin it fades away after 3-4 hours. I think it’s really impressive from a body spray. If it’s not available in your country, don’t worry, try Choco Musk, it’s a very close one.

It smell likes burnt chocolate chips cookie but in a good way. I mean it smells like a fresh baked cookie that has a little bit of burn. Very yummy vanilla. Not sexy, nothing fantastic about it, it is just yummy cookie scent for me.

This is my go-to scent year ’round that I use when I am down in the dumps. Once I spritz this on, I am instantly transported to sitting in a window seat with hot cocoa and a good book, watching the snow flakes gently fall outside. This is pure comfort and contentment in a bottle. Unfortunately, you must re-apply throughout the day, but you’d better believe I keep the lotion at my desk at work, and at home next to the couch at all times!

  22. :

Definitely a very sweet and creamy scent. It is heavy and sugary. I feel that this is 5x sweeter ng warm vanilla sugar. warm and no smokiness at all. Smells awesome when the weather is cold.

  23. :

I adored this when I first got it. Super creamy and sweet. I got all vanilla and caramel. It doesn’t last at all, but it was cheap. The first problem was the mist stained my clothes. Then, after having it for a few weeks it seemed to go bad as it developed a horrible synthetic smell and became revolting. Bummer because it smelled great at the start.

  24. :

(If anyone would like to try this, happy to trade decants for my want list.)
I have the mist version, and the color alone creeps me out: it is VERY green! (It makes me think of poison, lol). Maybe the color makes me biased to the scent, but I find that it smells cheap, plasticity vanilla. It is not bad, but there are sooo many other better scents out there.

If you missed Vanilla Bean Noel this year, try Katy Perry’s Mad Potion, which is also a vanilla/musk blend. I sampled Mad Potion today and it has the same musky dry down, which unfortunately didn’t work for me.

This review is for the 2015 season version- I believe the fragranticans when they say a formula has changed.
For me I smelled this for the first time at the after christmas sale. The lotion goes on with a strange cookie-like blast. But then the drydown….I was surprised to love it! It retains a vanilla sweetness but also has a ‘dry’ scent which must be the benzoin. The whole thing is anchored with a clean simple musk. It’s like vanilla meets pencil shavings? Which doesn’t sound attractive but I just love it. Smells much more expensive than it is. In fact, I love the toasted caramel note in Prada Candy but the perfume often turns sharp on my skin, ruining the thing I love about it. Vanilla Bean Noel came along and provided the gourmand yet sophisticated vibe I was looking for. Went crazy and bought a bunch of it on eBay – spray, lotion, shower gel. Is also great for layering with other things.
Next year will be a new packaging and very likely a new formulation. Try this one while it’s still around.

I agree w @Snicole82- the lotion is great! For me, the lotion provides a great base to make any perfume I have last twice as long. I buy the lotion every time it’s on special but I’m not interested in the spray.

Blech! Sugar and fake vanilla and that’s it. Absolutely hated it. I would’ve liked this when I was four years old.

For the record,I prefer the lotion over the body spray. The lotion smells of cookies, etc while the spray smells of burnt coffee.

I have been dying to try this and “Warm Vanilla Sugar” since first reading about them on Fragrantica in freezing London, UK. Despite currently living in anything-but-cold South Florida, USA, when I came across this in the fine fragrance mist and Warm Vanilla Sugar in the mist and ultra shea body butter in the 75% off sale, I really could not resist all 3 of these products for only $3.75 each! I would have gotten the Noel in the shower gel and body lotion too, but they only had the Mist in stock.
I absolutely agree with a review below me that said Warm Vanilla Sugar put out a more sophisticated vibe and could be worn year round. But Vanilla Bean Noel does work smashingly as a stand alone scent. I can get away with layering it with the Warm Vanilla Sugar body butter, and just did so tonight. (One of the few nights, well ever it is actually cold enough to go without AC in South Florida.) This is really yummy! For those of you who tried Vera Wang’s Princess, it is a but like Princess and Gold Sugar had a baby. The whipped cream and chocolate in this are delectable, but it doesn’t have the water lily and powdery notes of princess, or citrus twist of gold sugar, both of which smell a bit more natural and “perfumy”, while Vanilla Bean Noel is more of an entirely edible vibe giving gourmand. A bit like the difference between Cologne of the Missions and Fantasy Britany spears. The first being a very natural vanilla, and the latter much more synthetic but still pure gourmand fun for those with a sweet tooth.
All in all, for those wanting a more natural yet still sweet Vanilla scent, I would advise Cologne of the Missions, or Vera Wang Princess EDT.
Yet for those who don’t mind the artificial cupcake, playdoh like sweetness, like a thick frosted cupcake milkshake flavored of sugar cookies and whipped cream and caramel, you will love Vanilla Bean Noel fine fragrance mist. As do I….I have an appreciation for natural, more “grown up” scents as I do for these frothy holiday flings.
And while I would usually reach for Cologne of the missions or even Warm Vanilla Sugar as a more natural day-to-day vanilla, sometimes its fun to mix it up with Vanilla Bean Noel for a frothy milkshake fling while watching Pulp Fiction and listening to 80’s pop….sometimes girls just want to have fun.
8/10 for the Scent and Silliage
6/10 for longetivity (I love the Warm Vanilla Sugar EDT and need to save up for it, but sadly the EDT of this one is discontinued.) Still worth it, especially if you can find it in the sale!

I purchased this before the Semi Annual Sale,
for 5 bucks because I loved how simple and yummy it smelled.
This smell is very comforting, and kind of reminds me of my great grandma’s baked goods.
I am not a huge fan over holiday scents, lotions, and such due to how fast the holidays come and go.
However this body spray is defiantly winter useable, and easy enough for anyone to pull off.

it’s depressing that this only comes in season. it’s one of the best vanilla body mists i have (body fantasies vanilla). It’s sweet, warm and deliciously vanilla. If you wanna smell vanilla-y, and all cuddly and sweet, this is perfect for you. It’s not serious by any means. It’s not a mixture of anything BUT vanilla and caramel. (because i know i really hate when they mix vanilla with something tropical. It gives me a headache.) (*cough cough* coconut vanilla B&BW)
I’m ordering this in bulk for sure.

  35. :

Yay, it’s back for the season!
This is one of my BBW favs. I don’t often wear it out though. It’s best for chilling at home in your pajamas.
I love milky scents like this. The bottle lists “notes” of vanilla bean, sugar cookies and whipped cream.
Personally, I would like this more if it was a little less sweet and cloying. They have a room fragrance which is just called Vanilla Bean and it smells amazing. They used to sell a Vanilla Bean body fragrance but they discontinued it.

So I can’t lie, this one was disappointing to me. While I still like it, it’s probably my least favorite of all the vanilla scents I’ve owned. Barely any vanilla shined for me; I only got the whipped cream and sweet notes, which was disappointing considering this was a vanilla scent. I smell it every year, hoping the scent will grow on me, but it never does. For me, the sillage was soft and the longevity was weak, but it paired with the body lotion, it lasted a bit more into the moderate longevity range.

I do not care what mi55anthr0py or Fillgree4life say. I want this. I want to get the shower gel so I can smell like vanilla the moment I get out of my shower.

MmMMmm…delicious..this really smells like baked sugar cookies..perfect for layering with other fragrances!

  42. :

I initially loved this. It was so nostalgic to the ’90s and high-school. Not sophisticated of course, but really fun and playfully sweet. Very festive. Then it made me more ill than I could believe. I was nauseous and had a migraine for days after spraying this. All the candy store sweetness dissipated and it became a sickening synthetic white musk. I felt like I was drowning in a tank of Jovan White Musk. I have never had this severe reaction to a fragrance, it was shocking. Migraineurs beware!

  43. :

    4 out of 5

The travel sized bottle sort of has a smell of cigarette smoke sticked to your skin then comes the burnt caramel scent which eventually goes to a cocoa dry down. I was expecting rich vanilla, they should change the name of this gourmand fragrance. However, this goes well on fabric as I notice the chocolate tone.
..and so I gave it another shot. I got the big bottle of the fine fragrance mist. Yes, it did smell like sugared cookies!

  44. :

    4 out of 5

For years this has been one of my top favorite winter scents from B&BW!
I will say initially right after spraying this its a little strong but after a few minutes it dies down to a yummy vanilla cookie/cupcake scent and whenever I wear this I always seem to get random compliments and get asked what perfume am I wearing….and my husband loves it when I wear it so that’s a excellent plus!<3 Also this bodymist is very long lasting IMO I never really have to re-apply.
*I also like using this with the matching shower gel and bodylotion/cream. And IMO this is light enough to wear year round.

  45. :

    3 out of 5

I love vanilla and bakery smells so I had to have this! It smells like pure vanilla frosting goodness, with a little added extra. It is very sweet and simple, I smell marshmallows in it as well. It doesn’t stay on that long, but I just keep it in my purse and spray it on a few times a day. It is a very soft, yummy vanilla scent that is perfect for winter.

  46. :

    3 out of 5

Creamy and delicious, this is vanilla done right. It smells like really good creme brulee, warm and rich.
I normally wear BBW Warm Vanilla Sugar day to day as it’s more sophisticated and less gourmand. It also blends with a lot of my fragrances.
VBN is a standalone scent. When I need a sweet fix (without wanting to go over the top with Pink Sugar) I wear Vanilla Bean Noel.Perfect for chilly nights at home.
BBW would do right by getting rid of 75% of the repetitive scents out there and make VBN a year-round option so we don’t have to hoard it!

  47. :

    3 out of 5

The only Bath & Body works scent I will ever love. I really don’t think you can go wrong with this one in the winter months, when you need to feel deliciously cozy.
Somehow, it’s a super sweet vanilla bean/whipped cream scent WITHOUT being synthetic & cloying. There is no burnt smell, no weird borderline-floral-sharpness, no ‘bad milk’ vibe – just soft cakey marshmallow fluff, so innocent & comforting!
To me, it feels like the “EDT” of Indult Tihota.

  48. :

    3 out of 5

I agree with below comment on making this an EDT! It would be the shining gem of my perfume stash! This is such a yummy addicting scent, the lotion is divine. This fragrance is a Christmas tradition for me!

I’m not sure what to make of this. My mom and I *adored* B&BW’s Vanilla Bean Noel for years, back when it first came out. It was a rich, decadent, buttercream frosting-mixed-with-vanilla scent that lasted for hours. The lotion smelled absolutely edible and always drew compliments; we made sure to purchase it each Xmas and tried to make it last the whole year, which was impossible!
I just visited my local B&BW last night, with my ever-patient DH in tow. I giddily sprayed the Vanilla Bean Noel fragrance mist onto a card for him to sniff, and applied some of the Shimmer Swirl Lotion to my parched hands.
Immediately, I knew that something was wrong. The paper card on which I’d sprayed the mist smelled like…essentially, paper. There was a faint green stain from the colored liquid but almost no discernible fragrance, so I didn’t bother spraying the mist onto myself.
What was far, far worse, though, was the lotion that had the nerve to call itself “Vanilla Bean Noel.” Perhaps the lotion formulations differ, and the Shimmer Swirl is fragranced slightly differently than the rest of the line..? I really hope so, because the scent wafting up from my hands was NOT the Vanilla Bean Noel that I knew and loved from years ago. This was a thin, sharp, vanilla-esque scent that smelled vaguely of mussels steamed in beer, for lack of a better way to put it. I was horrified. I thought that I was perhaps overwhelmed by all of the other scents in the store, so I asked DH to sniff the back of my hand. He wrinkled his nose, and agreed with the tainted “mussels-in-beer” background odor.
What gives?! Is this yet another horrendous example of product reformulations? I walked out of B&BW empty-handed and incredibly disappointed. Why does everything that’s excellent have to be messed with? Ugh!

  50. :

Ever feel like you just can’t have enough of a fragrance? That’s how I feel about vanilla bean Noel. I have 2 lotions, 2 mini lotions, a body cream, a mini spray and a full size and I don’t feel like I have enough of this. It’s so sweet, but not cloying. It just smells like amazing fresh baked cookies. My brother actually asked me today “What smells like cookies?” after I applied the body cream. Hope they never stop making this stuff!!!

  51. :

    4 out of 5

Quintessential walking-bakery scent! This might be sweeter than Pink Sugar- can’t compare them directly because I no longer own PS. The opening of Vanilla Bean Noel is a mind-numbing blast of pure white spun sugar. It’s amazingly, transcendently sweet. I actually shouted expletives when I first sprayed it on my arms.
The dry down is milky vanilla butter cookies that are literally sparkling because they are covered with granulated sugar. There’s a hint of clean musk and cacao in the far dry down, which for VBN is like 15 minutes after application.
I don’t get anything sharp or fake smelling, just a quadruple dose of sugary vanilla cookies. If you like the sweetness of Pink Sugar but dislike the licorice and the burnt plastic… definitely give Vanilla Bean Noel a chance.
The longevity isn’t the best but if you smell this sweet for hours on end, you might keel over. Check plus.

  52. :

Never smelled Vanilla Bean Noel before and out of curiosity decided to do so on a spur of the moment stop at my local B&BW. I smelled burned almost plastic fake caramel, some vague vanilla and then it disappeared, thankfully. Nothing impressive here to my nose, but I could see that it would make a good background/booster for another scent with similar (or perhaps dissimilar) notes…

HI, as of today Nov 8 2014, I bought two bottles of this, as well as the twisted peppermint. BEAUTIFUL!!!!! On me, it doesn’t scream vanilla, but balances out with the musk and the benzoin. It has a really mixed note, that to me is not ‘just any vanilla’ scent. Wait for the dry down. I’m wearing this version on one wrist, and the peppermint on the other wrist. I think I am going to try to mix them together and see what happens. I DEFINITELY like it individually for sure!!!!
Go out and buy them NOW, because when I was in Bath and Beauty works this afternoon, there were many many people there. They have a ‘but three and get three free…… so I did!!!!!! I might go back for more.

Has something changed with this fragrance? I still have an old body mist and just smelled the new one, and they smell different. The older one seems stronger and more Vanilla bean and chocolate. The new one seems lighter with more caramel.

    LOVE AT FIRST SMELL.
Well in my case I smelled the lotion first, and it was pure heaven. Believe me. Combination of caramel, cookies, milk, vanilla, muffins.. Very warm, rich and comforting. Magical dessert land.
All giddy and excited to try the mist next, and a great deal of disappointment slapped me with this strong alcohol which made the vanilla stomach-turning. Once the alcohol faded, it’s all sugary goodness, then it was gone – snap – like that. 5 seconds! Lol im exaggerating of course but my joy was pretty short lived.
This review is for the 2013 formulation. Hoping to get my hands on the new ones. Fingers and toes crossed!

The cheapest closest copy of Tihota. Delicious, I love it, unfortunately it comes but once a year, but doesn’t last long. The lotion sticks around longer than the body spray.

  57. :

    3 out of 5

Fair warning! From what I am reading, they have changed the composition this year. I’m VERY worries, because the original was HANDS DOWN one of my favorite scents of all time! I loved the opening caramel notes, the noticable vanilla, and the playful bursts of whipped cream that came though. I use this all fall and winter long, and even use it as a pillow mist most nights. The way it warms to the skin is amazing, I love how the smell becomes deeper and richer over time. The longevity isn’t the greatest, as they only ever release it in a body mist rather than an EDT, but the sillage is quite nice. Has anyone smelled this years version that can let me know how it compares to previous years? Thanks so much!

This is a great vanilla! Every holiday season I buy a few different bath & body products in the Vanilla Bean Noel scent. It’s a crowd pleaser.
So, when is B&BW going to make a special edition EdT perfume in this annual holiday scent??
    It would be a sensation!
What a great holiday gift THAT would be.

Vanilla Bean Noel was my first B&BW fragrance love. It’s such a comforting, cozy, and calming vanilla for cold winter nights spent snuggling under blankets. Wonderful for layering. I purchased both the body spray and body lotion in 2013, but unfortunately the top notes turned in one year and now give off a sour cream or burnt scent. I have yet to have this happen with any of my other B&BW fragrances turn, so maybe I purchased a bad batch? Hopefully the replacements I purchase this year will stay fresh longer.
Jan. 8, 2015 edit – Absolutely loved the original formulation of VBN, but the 2014 version seems to have been reformulated to be much more caramel-y and have less of the vanilla bean ice cream/sugar cookie scent that drew me to the fragrance when I was a teenager. Unfortunately, this meant I had to pass on an old favorite this season. I’m crossing my fingers that in future holiday seasons they’ll return VBN to its original formulation.

I’m so glad Fragrantica added this to the database! VBN is a truely gourmand vanilla buttercream frosted sugar cookie! It’s warm and delicious and is great by itself or layered with other fragrances. I personally prefer the body lotion to the spray as the spray can be a little plasticky. Even though it’s so yummy, VBN manages to stay warm and grounded and not sickly sweet. If you are a gourmand vanilla lover, try this affordable seasonal treat! Oh, it also reminds me of toasted marshmallows.
