Description

Announced as mysterious, sophisticated and extremely masculine, the new exclusive fragrance The One Royal Night is out in fall 2015 and represents an oriental edition of the original The One for Men fragrance from 2008. Available exclusively in selected stores around the world, this new addition to the Dolce & Gabbana The One collection offers a fragrant journey to the Middle East.

Its oriental – woody composition begins with notes of cardamom (two types of cardamom oil) and basil. Wild pear wood, a dry wood with a leathery note, and spicy nutmeg form the heart, followed by the oriental base of amber, cedar, sandalwood and labdanum.

The bottle is decorated with dark hues and golden details such as a rectangular cap, the Arabic name and Dolce & Gabbana The One logo.

Beautiful oriental version of it’s famous original counterpart, The one.
It’s starts with the same fruity slightly citrus note but then quickly takes a wonderful new path towards woody and slightly more spicy base notes. Add a wiff of Oud and cardamom and what a delightful gem it’s becomes. Lasts a good 8 to 10 hrs on me.
A definite buy for those who like the original and have a nose for the woody Middle Eastern fragrances. One my top five fall to winter fragrances for sure.

The One Royal Night opens with bittersweet, candied orange peel which is slightly more pronounced and nuanced then the original eau de parfum. This quickly gives way to a very realistic cardamon, nutty and also slightly bittersweet. The cardamon begins to pop off with the nutty resonance of fresh, mildly pungent curry leaves.
Something mildly, but pleasingly acrid at the borders delineates the territory of this fragrance and also pushes back into the area sprayed. I get the bittersweet peels of preserved, Chinese candied citruses; sun-dried and lightly dusted with the semisweet flavored powders used to make these dry candied preserves. The type you find in a Crackseed shop stored and displayed in large glass jars (a delicacy anyone from Hawaii will readily recognize). Fruits of all kinds are preserved and candied in this way. You can find everything from lemon and orange peels, to entire plums, peaches, and apricots preserved and candied in the traditional Chinese fashion being sold from large glass jars at these shops. There is a smell reminescent of that in this fragrance. A slightly pleasant and comforting medicinal note is mingled with a layer of lightly warmed Indian spices. Spices that are not raw, nor yet even the slightest bit browned.
The original dna of the eau de parfum is strongly apparent and holds everything together. Very similar to the original but this composition is a bit richer and darker, with a touch more of exotic spices and a mellowed medicinal nuance. The strongest spice of which is the natural smelling lightly toasted cardamon.
Exquisite and gorgeous, the development of The One Royal Night progresses a little less soapy than the original eau de parfum. Like previously mentioned, there is a slight medicinal nuance which comes off very rich, luxurious and very, very nice, comforting, and highly sophisticated. This nuance is not a detractor in any way, and instead brings a polished and mysterious character of sophistication to the fragrance.
Reminds me of a slightly dimmed room, elegant glass windows with natural, darkened wood furniture. A desk covered in books, maps, periodicals, and a silk tie. A worldly study with refined and elegant fixtures. Absolutely wonderful!!

Well, did not like it, sillage and longevity are average.

I guess a “Royal Night” involves caramel. Lots and lots of caramel.
I’ll say that as a whole I am not a gourmand fragrance fan. So you can take my review with that grain of salt.
I have liked “The One”, but it hasn’t really stood out to me. I did recently smell The One Grey, and I liked the grapefruit accord.
This however , is quality and luxurious. The caramel scent comes from the “amber” (vanilla, benzoin, labdanum) and while it is overpowering at first, it does calm down, but is still present.
I like cardamom in other scents, which is probably why I haven’t washed this one off my hand yet.
I personally don’t like it, but I’m open minded enough to appreciate the quality.

Imagine a quiet night, but full of creative energy. This is my favourite fragrance for such time. Soft combination of amber & oud, just to add soft colour to imaginations. Always comfortable to wear it when I am alone, enjoying long creative time alone. And take the scent into good sleeps.
Surely sometimes I wear it for business meetings etc. But for me, this is the best for the me-times.

    Love it! Totally unisex !
Definitely needs a hot summer day – it settles beautifully on my skin, such a lovely creamy amber… Love love love! 🙂

Basically the original (minus some key notes), plus a very subtle spritz of Gucci guilty absolute. It’s a pleasant and light skin scent, maybe a hint of middle eastern vibes (false oud note?) Either way, I’m not dying to get this scent, but would love if it were in my collection. So far it is a bit pricier than the others. If I had none I would get the original edp. This is a bit linear and lacks projection. Basically I really like it but it doesn’t quite justify a purchase for me just yet. And it doesn’t replace the original.

Where’s the tobacco?!?!? It’s my favorite note of D&G’s The One. This fragrance is the spicier version of the original…minus the tobacco.

I KNOW that this fragrance is marketed for men, but I really enjoy wearing it!
Yes it is masculine but I feel like I’m ok with it!! There are so many sandelwood fragrances that I can’t pull off, as a matter of fact “sandelwood is one the notes that I usually stay away from”, but I really enjoy this fragrance 8.5/10.

  12. :

Something is wrong with D&G fragrances, they used to be long lasting now is only water in the bottle that cost you over the roof,,,the other day i had few d&g fragrances to test,to be honest they last only while you spray it,reminds me on chinese fragrances that cost $2-3 for 100ml bottle…This house of fragrances have to do something to make long lasting perfumes or people will start avoiding purchase,,for now i am FAR FAR away to spend money on any D&G fragrance, because EDP version last only 1h or less…Shame for D&G…

On this one id say its a very nice scent. Very oriental and woody. Although not very unique. You wear this definately on a special night wintery occassion. Its oriental and woody notes are very clear and noticeable from opening till drydown. Sillage is strong with also a good performance. Bottle is fantastic also. Id give it 7.5/10

it’s just as its name. the One indeed, with Royal feel and quality, and works best in the Night!
one of my favourites ever. glad i found a 150ml bottle in a local store though a little bit expensive but it’s worthy!
on clothes this juice lasts for 3 days so i’d be careful and spray it only on skin.

Simply the best version of THE ONE by D&G!!!
This smells luxurious, creamy and simply majestic..
One sniff and you will instantly fell in love with it.
Great blend of Amber, honey , nutmeg & sandalwood.
Although projection is weak but there is something about this fragrance which leaves an overall classy rich expression.
Not for teenagers or young boys.
8 out of 10 for me.

The One Mysterius Night coming in 2018 as an eastern exclusive!!!

  21. :

    3 out of 5

Smells exactly like the Edp just a little spicier… absolutley awfull performance, 0 projection and the scent vanishes within 2 hours of spraying on skin.
    2017 batch.
Update: may have judged abit too soon, on reflection this holds its own in comparrison to the edt and edp but still pretty close to the skin wearing but stronger than both others.

  22. :

    4 out of 5

I love this reinterpretation from the original “The One EDP”. But whereas the original is slightly more tobacco wise, this one is slightly brighter and spicier (with the same DNA), but hey, extremely refined and delicate Arabian spices. Perfectly blended and equilibrated. Both excellent. Both masterpieces. None of them is better than the other, they are just a bit different but both 10/10.
    It smells modern, classy, luxury.
    Absolutely gorgeous!

This smells like what you’d think an Arabian billionaire smells like. Short n sweet
Ps the bottle is beautiful but you could kill somebody with it

I absolutely love this Oriental Spicey fragrance! Very unusual scent. I love spicey scents and this one hits the target. A cardamun with creamy and nutmeg. A rich fragrance. I have no other fragrance in my collection that is anywhere near this scent. Very unique. I’m sure it will be a big compliment getter.

  25. :

Best formulation for “The one”. and it is indeed “The one”. Smells Amazing. It got the perfect blend between eastern and western perfumery. Absolutely stunning. Compliment magnet. I love it.
Note: Girls who do not like or enjoy oud will not like it but most girls will love it.

  26. :

    4 out of 5

This smells AMAZING! I’m no connoisseur or anything but definitely smells Middle Eastern (probably why it was released there) smells nothing like original to me. It’s a scent of its own. I even spray my pillow before bed!

  27. :

    3 out of 5

    I really like this stuff
The opening isn’t the greatest, for the first couple minute it smells like apple cider vinegar gone off but after that it’s amazing. Basically The One’s DNA but more enriched.
Performance for me is 11/10 ,used 2 sprays in the morning at about 8am and still getting compliments in the evening.
(Note im using this in cool/warm weather +-20° celsius)

  28. :

    3 out of 5

Isn’t this supposed to be a stronger version of the EDT/EDP? why is the rating so bad then?
For me the opening smells different. More woody for sure and more spices.. but as it dries down the one DNA kicks into gear and it starts smelling more and more like that familiar vibe.. basically become the one.. Its nice.. I like it… The only thing is i hope the performance ends up better than the other two. If so we have a winner
    Scent 5/5
    Performance not sure yet.

  29. :

The drydown amber/labdanum smells very feminine to me (on paper). Good for colder weather, definitely formal and mature.

  30. :

    3 out of 5

One of the most mysterious smells I have ever used. A touch of middle eastern fragrance (not oud). Good performance
    Overall 7/10
Caution: Dont spray too much or you will give yourself and others around you a headache.

  31. :

    4 out of 5

    Why, Why, Why?
Why can’t I find a fragrance from ‘THE ONE’ range which lasts for more than 1 – 2 hours.
One Royal Night is a very classy and mature fragrance. Not a fragrance I would expect anyone under 40 yrs wearing. The bottle gives the impression of an Oud fragrance without that ingrediant but still very much a Middle Eastern fragrance.
I tested this liberally when waiting for a flight from Rome airport. I had a 2 hours wait before having to board by which time I found it hard to find the fragrance on me.
A beautiful fragrance but if I have to re-apply this 4 – 5 times a day it becomes a too expensive option.

  32. :

    3 out of 5

    this is a great fragrance.
on the top note I can smell very rich cardamom and basil notes – and basil adds an oomph to the top note…it then dries down to a full amber note and I think I can also smell nutmeg…and then the final notes are sandalwood…with a hint of amber too
this is just great for winter and fall – but the colder days of fall

  33. :

    5 out of 5

Is it normal I get a pretty thick alcohol smell from the bottle and at initial spray? After that it smells creamier than the original. I haven’t smelt the EDP yet
Edit: Hmm maybe that’s just the cardamom that my nose isn’t adjusted to yet. All smiles now 🙂

The first time I got the one ,I was like Wow it’s incredibly amazing and I don’t think dolce & gabbana could’ve done it any better! But few days ago I was at the duty free and I was attracted by the Arabic letters on a dolce & gabbana the one bottle and I was like whaaat ! So I had to smell and and I was hooked immediately .. the point is dolce & gabbana did make the one smell better, for 125$ i believe it’s worth every penny ,well done .

  39. :

This is definitely better than edt and edp … more mellow and has a touch of luxury… 8 out of 10 overall.

  40. :

    3 out of 5

This should be the Eau de Parfum version in my nose.
Spicier and also woody, I feel something more smoky even perhaps can be cedar with amber, the labdanum, conveys something like oud, or should have any oud hint of honoring this version of the so-called Oriental nights, looks like a darker version / dark, like a night in the east perhaps.
In short it is the aroma of traditional with something deeper, spicy and warm, woody as I said, a little stronger and with more consistency, better version of The One in my humble opinion.
    Rating: 10/10

  41. :

    3 out of 5

It starts with a blast of cardamom & it doesn’t smell really good but it drys down, beautifully, to become almost identical to the original The One.
Between The One, The One Royal Night, & The One EDP, I recommend going for the EDP first, the Original, then Royal Night.

  42. :

    5 out of 5

Very similar to the standard EDP released in 2015, Dolce and Gabbana’s The One Royal Night edition (exclusive to the Middle East and UK, I believe), departs in minor but ultimately uninteresting ways. What I mainly get out of it is the EDP with an additional mix of incense and fruit, so overall, nothing all that special as far as a new fragrance, relative to the original EDP.
Performance is very similar to the original, which is very good, but ultimately the limited availability of this release renders it more expensive. I’ll pass on pursuing it further but am happy to have a decant.

I always enjoyed Dolce & Gabbana The One, EDT & EDP.. So when I first heard about The One Royal Night I had to get my nose on it, & I finally succeeded! The One Royal Night is very much still “The One”, although the DNA of The One has been reworked to give it more of an exotic middle eastern vibe.. The One Royal Night does not stray to far from The One but it does have it’s own personality.. The One Royal Night opens up fresh & spicy with a strong dose of cardamom & some basil.. Dolce & Gabbana used two different types of cardamom oil in this composition, hence cardamom is a big part of this fragrance & is detectable throughout it’s duration.. There are some nice spicy hints of nutmeg in the heart along with pear wood.. As The One Royal Night starts to dry down sandalwood & cedar start to become more detectable & add some depth to the fragrance.. This touch of sandalwood is my favorite part of this fragrance.. A base of amber adds sweetness while a nice amount of labdanum adds an exotic smokiness.. The use of spices, wood notes, & labdanum is what gives this take on “The One” an exotic middle eastern vibe.. The One Royal Night is definitely more suited for the cooler weather although it could still be somewhat versatile, like The One.. The One Royal Night also performs a bit better on my skin than The One EDT, & maybe even a bit better than The One EDP to.. I do see The One Royal Night as more of a mature fragrance than The One, & because it is a bit more of an exotic fragrance it may not be for everyone.. Overall I happen to love The One Royal Night, & I will continue to appreciate it, as I do the original The One.. With the release of Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme Intenso, Dolce & Gabbana The One Eau De Parfum, & Dolce & Gabbana The One Royal Night, I can finally say that I think Dolce & Gabbana is headed back in the right direction.. I really hope that The One Royal Night stays in production & becomes more widely distributed as it is a great new release!

I tested this at the airport where they wrongly advertised it as ‘the one royal night oud’ – just because the bottle shows some words in Arabic (لبل ملكي ؟) it doesn’t mean that the perfume includes oud, but anyway… I love the original, both the edt and especially the edp. This one is closer to the edp but at the same time it is also different. I’d dare say that this is less complex, because it has less ingredients and the moment you spray it, it does not develop all the way to the dry-down. What you spray is what you get. Almost immediately. It’s a great scent though, with a lot of depth. I have a huge crush on this perfume and I find it incredibly sexy. Love it, love it, love it!

Yum, just received this. This is not a cardamom bomb as some are claiming nor is it identical to the EDT or EDP, it’s similar to a degree but it has its own vibe, loving it

  47. :

This is a cardamon bomb not for me. The only cardamom fragrance that I like is Bond No. 9 Brooklyn. It dry down has alot in common with The One EdT opening.

I tried it, just has been released in Abu Dhabi 4 days ago. The drydown smells very similar to original The One. I will test it more give better review.

@acidnbase – Thanks for the info! Please test this fragrance out some more, and give us a more detailed review.. I am very very interested in this fragrance.. Dolce & Gabbana The One for Men with sandalwood, that sounds great! I hope it will also be available in the west..

  50. :

    4 out of 5

okay folks, i got the chance to test this one, it is already available here in Saudi Arabia.. this comes in EdP concentration and i would say it still retains the original The One DNA but this comes off a bit fresh and airy because of the more pronounced cardamom and basil.. Sandalwood and cedar are obviously there “replacing” the tobacco from the original.. i can’t gauge the performance yet but will be reporting back soon as i will be testing it more.. i didn’t care about the original The One and its flankers but i might get a bottle of this..

I suspect many that have voted did not actually try the fragrance.
What are we voting on here. The presentation, the marketing, whether or not you like this brand? Should there be separate voting buttons for those categories.
I just find it confusing when people vote, and I highly suspect they didn’t even try it.

  52. :

    5 out of 5

Very interesting indeed D&G cashing in on the popularity of Arabic perfumes. A shrewd move. Let’s hope it’s the long lasting ‘The One’ many fans have craved and the EDP didn’t deliver.

  53. :

Perfect! You guys already voted on love and like, even voted on the intensity of notes, and also on longevity and sillage. YET no one wrote a review on the fragrance actually smelling it.

    LIKE !
oh, about putting the name in Arabic it means “this is oriental-middle eastern inspired perfume”.
It is like when Aramis made the Calligraphy line and the bottles are imprinted with Arabic words.
Can’t wait to smell this because I love the taste and smell of basil!

putting the name in arabic on a bottle trying to make it exotic! this is so lame and tasteless.
