Description

The new edition of Valentino Uomo fragrance from 2014 comes out in the spring of 2017 as Valentino Uomo Acqua. The new flanker represents the refreshed, summery version of the original leathery fragrance, which still preserves its elegant and intense character.

The top include refreshing aromas of mandarin and green tomatoes. Sage and patchouli form the heart of the perfume. The base ends with leather and iris.

The fragrance is available as a 50 and 75 ml Eau de Toilette.

FINALLY! I had lost hope among the various Valentino Uomo. This differs completely from all the others, giving life to greener, fresh and classic hints. The tomato leaf is the touch of class between sage and iris. The best among his brothers. Valentino Uomo Acqua is a contemporary exploration of freshness and intensity. That aromatic freshness of an Italian garden. Recommended for spring and summer. Pure love!

in the drydown smells like axe black’s drydown to me.

I did think this was a good fragrance but unfortunately this type of smell has been done before and the scents that it was trying to replicate I actually prefer.
Before I compare to what it smells like I’ll describe it on its own. This is a fresh, but also semi sweet and powdery scent that also has a bit of creaminess. The scents that this reminds me of slightly is Dior Homme Eau as it has that iris note making it smooth and fresh but it more so resembles a Bleu De Chanel if you that incense note with Iris !
I prefer Dior Homme Eau and Bleu De Chanel over this so after I use my sample I won’t be purchasing a bottle. However, I do think it’s a good scent and I can see there being an audience for this.
Performance— People were complaining that this didn’t perform but it lasted 4-6 hours on my skin with only average projection. Mainly I just had a decent scent bubble for the entire scent life.
Overall rating—6.75 out of 10! Decent scent in the opening and heart but it kind of falls flat in the drydown

    Very complimentary.
I love the entire line especially since the original garners so many compliments from the ladies. Having had a sample of Aqua that as I tested it one day it spilled out in my briefcase, I immediately purchased a full bottle, which will arrive tomorrow. This is a great smooth creamy iris scent made fresh by tomato leaf and the performance is ok to me.

Just forget about the word Aqua. For me it one of the best among these 3 Uomo. It does not smell Aqua like other fragrance outside. It totally different. It smell so damm good. Only the longevity is problem here. If you own D&G The One that the same level about longevity. The rest totally so beautiful about this fragrance. You will never get bored and for sure you will get compliments with this one. Just try by your own rather than read a review here. I have a bottle and so far im totally satisfied with the scent. Cheers

Wow, this juice is amazing! So smooth, mellow and sexy! Guys, this WILL turn heads and for the right reasons! I smell a fantastic iris/leather combination right off the top that comes across as cool and confident without being overpowering and the dry down is mature without smelling ‘old’ or dated. I swear if this didn’t have sage (which gives it that aromatic masculine edge to my nose) I would be rocking this fragrance myself! Amazing how I love the leather in this, but can’t stand it in Valentino Donna where it made me smell like a leatherbound whip-wielding dominatrix LOL.

This is great fragrance imo….it’s definitely not typical “Aqua” frangrance. I’ve been wearing today at work, it’s about 24 celcius out today and I find it performs well. Getting Abit of a blue de channel scent off every once in awhile. But overall I am very happy with this one, performance is not an issue as I just decant some into Automizer and freshen up when feel it fading. Get 25 5ml decant automizers on Amazon for under $15 (cad)…

manufactures these days only focus on SMELL, MONEY and the smell of money, they have forgotten PERFORMANCE.
I would go with DIOR homme sport rather than this one. at least it performs good if not beastly at daytime.

This may sound surprising…but out of the three Valentino Uomo fragrances (Uomo, Uomo Intense, and this one), I think I like Valentino Uomo Acqua the most.
I like the entire Valentino Uomo line, but in many ways, I would rather wear Dior Homme than Valentino Uomo, and Dior Homme Intense more than Valentino Uomo Intense. Having said that, there is something so fresh and elegant about Acqua, that it KILLS me that this fragrance’s longevity and projection is weak.
My only solution has been to decant Acqua into smaller decant bottles and then blend it with about 30% Molecule 01 to boost the power of Acqua. The only other solution is to wear this fragrance on warm days where the heat will help fragrances like this project a bit more. This fragrance will die in cold/cool weather!

    LOVE IS SO DISAPPOINTING!
this scent is almost total LOVE..
but already as mentioned before the performance is DISASTER!
not more than 30 minutes ?! wtf valentino?
if it would last even 2 hours i have bought lifetime supply of this..
i don’t mind this would be the smell of my sweat!
ooo valentino valentino who would have believed…
its very similar to Tabac Gentle Men’s Care Maurer & Wirtz
so buy the cheap tabac for this price.

Just picked this up today, they did a really good job of turning a really sweet & dense fragrance into a fresh one without making it weird. This whole line between the original, intense and Acqua have been great

I can’t say anything reliable about the performance etc. but DAMN this is a ladies killer!! No joke here. Works better than Sauvage, La Nuit de l’homme or Aventus

I was ordering nail polish on nordstrom and saw this offered as a free sample, so i thought why not. I normally dislike aromatic green scents, but Uomo Acqua is a pleasant surprise. It’s very different from the aquatic scents I’m used to, which are usually marine or aquatic floral scents. This smells youthful, masculine, and dressy. I’m not quite sure what notes I’m smelling though. I get a hint of patchouli, some leather and a general greenness. Soft to moderate sillage. Fairly linear development even though the notes are listed as top mid base.

I’m a tomato leaf note freak and love the classic Eau de Campagne since the day I first smelt it. Hell, I even blind bought Tomato Leaf by Great American Scents based solely on the name, and I love it. You can imagine my delight when I found out the new Valentino had tomato leaf as a note! I was ecstatic.
Well, I can’t really give a fair unbiased review of this fragrance as the second I sprayed this I discovered this doesn’t smell like tomato leaves AT ALL. None, zero, zilch. This is a watery, vague generic smelling aquatic mens fragrance. Thats all I have to say as I basically lost interest the moment this stuff touched my skin.
    Too bad, so sad.

  18. :

    3 out of 5

It has nice promising opening with iris and freshness but it drydowns to generic nothingness and it becomes impossible to point what this parfume is about. Little bit tragic comparing to the original uommo.

  19. :

    4 out of 5

I wore a sample from Nordstroms before deciding to buy a full bottle. I really like this fragrance. I already own Valentino Uomo and Valentino Uomo Intense and like them both. Being a big fan of the iris note, I had to check out the Acqua version of this scent, and really enjoy the fresh opening with a lighter version of the original DNA.
I will admit – longevity and projection is not great. To be more blunt, if you think Dolce and Gabbana’s The One EDT doesn’t last…I think this lasts even less.
I bought this fragrance because I love the scent and can carry a glass rollerball decant around whenever I wear it. It smells elegant, beautiful with the leather and iris base and mandarin orange off the top. Having said that…dont’ be shocked if 4 hours is all you will get with this beautiful scent.
If any of you have ever used ‘Canvas’ from Lucky Scent, this fragrance is a candidate using that fragrance extender. I am going to start using it with Valentino Acqua!

I don’t know why this gets so much hate. This is only a first impression but I was impressed on first spray. I get the iris but also with an accompanying freshness. Its soft and smells very refined for a freshie. For a fresh iris scent this is pretty damn good. Not sure why people compare a fragrance meant for the dead of winter with a summer version flanker. Kind of silly to me. Performance I don’t know yet. Everyone is saying it’s terrible. Maybe that is why it scored so poorly.
    Scent first impressions/opening 4.5/5
Performance – not tested but seems to be dying down on the test strip pretty fast.. Might be a below average performance.

  21. :

    4 out of 5

Nice citrusy/green opening which dries down to a faint leather and iris Uomo DNA. Pleasant, casual, inoffensive but the performance is not the shiniest.

  22. :

To me this one starts of with
a strong blast of mandarin and a
tomato leaf and i can smell some
iris in the background. I do like
it and think it deserves a spot in
the uomo line, but still the original
and the intense one is my favorite if
i had to choose one due to the rather
poor longevity and projection this one
    has.

  23. :

Was given a sample of this yesterday and really like it. Great addition to the range for daytime use in the heat. The opening is great – citrus with iris, very fresh but also a cut above in terms of complexity – this is not your typical acqua smell. Had two compliments today so contrary to comments above I think it’s not so bad for sillage. Will be picking up a bottle asap.

Really nice! my scent for the summer

  25. :

    3 out of 5

    This is truly awful.
It’s starts as a chaotic mess, barely even registering as fresh despite the ‘Acqua’ theme, and then dries down to some generic woman’s perfume.
Points to them for trying to turn the original into something fresh (not an easy job) but it just didn’t work.
My advice: spend you hard earned money on a proper summer fragrance (like Eau Sauvage) and buy Uomo Intense in October.

  26. :

    3 out of 5

I’ll say this. IMO I feel this has one of the best citric openings I have ever smelled. I get a juicy and zesty mandarin orange with some green notes (which I am assuming is the tomato leaf). The sage starts to kick in shortly after the initial blast(but it’s not strong). On me the mandarin starts to die down around the 1 hr mark for me. I wish it carried over longer. Boss Projection is about 1-2 hrs and then it moderate/bubble is smaller. I would say it becomes a skin scent 3-5 hrs after application. Heat or using lotion/Vaseline will get it to stretch close to the 5 hr mark. To me this feels closer to uomo intense rather than the original uomo and of course that’s due to the iris. Man I think the iris is too much on the dry down. I would like if it would have dried down into maybe a sweet leathery green base instead of having iris in it..Maybe just having iris in the mid?. Maybe a musky or woody sweet green base?. try something different ya know. It’s a really good fragrance. It just has a amazing opening and meh dry down + so-so performance.

Talk about misleading people. Under main accords, its stated green! This one is anything but green. Totally redundant as the only potentially interesting note (tomato leaf) is totally nonexistent, making it smell like the watered down version of the original and the original has been a sweet and cloying mess to begin with.

  28. :

    4 out of 5

Nice smell, softer aquatic version of the original.
    Good for summer wearings.
Good projection for about an hour.
    Pro: Very nice opening.
Con: Sadly only lasts about 4 hours.
There are also 125 ml bottles of this….
Pity it lasts not that long, otherwise also FB worthy at a reasonable price (discounted).

Endymion, there are 4 Uomos by Valentino, the third one is Valentino Uomo 2015 or Noir, check it out, then comment.

I have worn it a lot in the last week, this fragrance it is very pleasing and a compliment getter , no one complained about the smell of this fragrance, almost all the people that I asked about this fragrance said it is smells really nice. The tomato note it is much dominant than iris note.
On clothes it last for days but on my skin I get 4-5 hours max with 1 hour moderate projection. In my opinion this fragrance fits much better for spring or autumn, the performance on the summer heat it is not good, especially if you live in a country where the temperature during the summer it is above 30 degrees Celsius.

Consider this a new entrant among the fresh, modern, suave and sophisticated genre, joining the ranks of fragrances such as Allure Homme Edition Blanche and Dior Homme Sport 2012.
Uomo Acqua is an excellent release, pairing Uomo’s trademark iris with a unique citrus accord that is remarkably vibrant, green and to some extent tangy. Although the scent is not particularly complex, and mostly linear, it smells fantastic, and hits its stride in the heart, when the iris blends with tomato leaf and the citrus accord creating a beautiful scent, that should work especially well in summer evenings or occasions which require one to get a little dressed up. While it’s modern and fresh, and by extension synthetic, there is nothing harsh, excessively sharp or abrasive, or clumsy about the manner in which the synthetics were handled here. Everything reflects skill and polish and is blended with precision. Acqua’s citrus is bright, but never irritating. Its base is a smooth suede which melds seamlessly with the iris heart accord, rather than an ambroxan laden woody-amber which is all the rage these days. The tomato leaf lends a tangy, green vibrancy without ever getting in the way. And while the fragrance diffuses well, it never reaches obnoxious levels and instead stays reeled in to just the right degree. Others might argue that it’s too weak, but I don’t feel that way. It gets noticed by other people and is urbane to the point where a “beast mode” performance just seems unnecessary and out of tune with the scent. It probably reminds me most of Dior Homme Eau for Men, though Acqua is much smoother and feels more deft and modern in comparison. Overall, Acqua is a very well put together scent, effectively simple and linear, and is a great option for the summer. Furthermore, it’s different enough from Uomo’s other iterations where one could own it (along with the others) without being redundant. Very nice! Thumbs up and recommended for sampling.
EDIT: Wearing it again today, I’m also picking up on some tonka in the base along with the suede and leather. But it’s a tasteful amount, and isn’t overpowering or out of balance in relation to the other notes. It lends a bit of sweetness to the scent.

Smelled this at the store today, it’s a very pleasant scent. It makes me wonder though why they slapped “Acqua” on the title while it doesn’t smell aquatic whatsoever, let alone watery.

  33. :

    3 out of 5

Sorry , I am so frustrated because it does not perform as I was expected, especially for a fragrance designed for summer heat. Why they created a summer fragrance that do not perform on high heat? I paid around 90 $ for 125 ml, at least it is not expensive.

Diego, that comment wasn’t related to anything you said. The quotations are quoting a previous comment.

  35. :

D-Bo – I don’t give a crap if you believe me or not, all I wanted to say is that do not expect that fragrance to last , especially in the summer heat. Wait until this fragrance will be available in your country and you will convince yourself. It is already available at Sephora.
The smell it is really nice, I liked very much Valentino Uomo Intense, but I am very disappointed of the acqua version performance. After 1 hour becomes a skin scent and after 4 hour it is completely gone.

“Thanks to everyone for some real quality reviews! Perhaps you can expand on your favorite color in your next “review”? Why dont you take your insipid musings and start a forum topic about them? Instead of polluting the review sections with your nonsensical drivel.”
Wait a minute, was there a review in that statement or are you part of this so-called problem? What is anyone supposed to gain from your review? Lol.
Nothing wrong with suggesting that the notes don’t generally work together or assume that you may not like it. I’ll agree that the ratings for the longevity and sillage are asinine if you’ve never even tested it, but suggesting that you’ll like or dislike something based on notes is not stupid. I reality, everyone will have a varying opinion on the fragrance itself.

Big fan of VUI, can’t wait to try this aquatic variant. Was choosing between purchasing Dior Homme or Dior Homme Eau for use as a daytime iris scent, but maybe I shall wait until I try VUA before I pull the trigger. If this is similar to Sur Le Nil, I think we’re in for a treat!

  42. :

Let’s get back to real perfume reviewing. Nature has its own way of weeding out bad reviews 😉
I just tried this today at the counter. Pretty sure it’s the aqua version since the sprayer has a silver neck and the bottle is grey instead of dark grey. This scent is fabulous! True that we are seeing (probably) too many men’s releases that are powder puffs but even so, I cannot dismiss how good this one smells! Uomo Acqua is fresh, very iris-forward with a hint of leather. It does not have the sweetness from vanilla like the Dior series or even the original Uomo. Compared to Prada’s Le Homme it wins by having that herbal nuance from the tomato leaves, sage and patchouli. If my boyfriend is more interested in iris perfumes this will be the first thing I get him. Not Dior. Not Prada. Not Ermenegildo Zegna. This. Heck I might even get myself a bottle.
    Great stuff!!

I think fragrantica should screen memebers before they can join this site. its ridiculous how many stupid ppl are members now. what is the point of trolling this page. this website is all learning and sharing out thoughts about fragrances.

  46. :

    5 out of 5

Wow I like how people know the main notes & what it’s similar too without a review in sight.. think Frangrantica needs to stop posting new fragrances so early and post the actual page when it finally becomes available.. or if they want to inform us of a new upcoming release to just post an article..ijs..

Agreed, not really a set of reviews, but given the previous line and market base that set the original, intense and female Donna on a track and storyline of elegant Italian households and effortless casual style, all I get in my mind is the scene from GodfatherIII(?)where Brando collapses in the allotment… somewhat lacking in dignity. I trust in Valentino, but it’s a fragile trust with this concept… Hope for the best.

I’m down with this. Finally no Commercial notes the likes of cardamom and ginger, well done Valentino for taking risks.

The 4th edition of the same perfume…Let me guess, next is the abosolut edition, then the Ultimate edition and so on…

That was to be expected sooner or later. Flankers are inevitable. But I lay hope in Valentino. I haven’t been disappointed with the two versions so far so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Plus I love the tomato leaf note! No marine accord in the composition is also promising.
