As a lily lover, I found that Un Lys on me smelled more like jasmine (which I like, too, but…) than Madonna lilies. Otherwise, I think this perfume is refined and beautiful. I’m not a big soft floral person, so this voluptuous perfume is right up my alley. It is loud and glamorous. Un Lys is a confident and beautiful scent that radiates sunlight and joy. I don’t have many good floral perfumes in my library, as I never feel comfortable wearing something that is quieter or timid. I like to stand out, be different, and shock. In many ways, Un Lys is the celebration of womanly femininity – wise, sensual, and brilliant. She reminds me of all the great women I loved from my past, women I learned about all the secrets of the world from. I would wear this if I had a lover, as it literally smells like a ray of sunlight.
Lesika – :
Simple and linear, a beautiful reproduction of lilies. This is a wearable Lutens, not quite as wearable as Fleurs d’Oranger, but close. It smells like Easter and weddings, down to the solemn, green clang in the opening that reminds me this is a Lutens. But that note softens with time and gradually fades into the vanilla. Not for me, but I appreciate it.
Евгений 1994 – :
I am using mine sparingly because the thought of being without it makes me sad. Without a doubt, poignantly beautiful almost to the point of tears… Lily, vanilla and musk? Only three notes? Was it that simple to mix or was it just the right amount of each? Mmmmm, sumptuous, sublime…
chubacka – :
fantastic real lily!!!
antonyo2000 – :
I have just received the 50 ml bottle of this long searched beauty – oh, such a delight this aroma is: softest slightly creamy composition with so perfectly balanced notes of lilac, some decadent lilies and those of the valley. So calming, so relaxing velvety blend and what is truly wonderful about it this has no age relation in itself – I found this as same exciting and moving as it first happened to me 44 years ago.. Gorgeous aroma which is timeless.
d128312 – :
Very pretty combination, the lilies are a bit too clean at first. Later on they are joined by a delicious musk and vanilla that keep this scent from being too clean. The musk is like a lighter version Muscs Koublai Khan. I would love to have a decant of this.
sid-piter – :
I want it badly but can’t find it anywhere here in Australia.. Does anyone know where to get this frag from to be shipped to Australia?? Perhaps someone dislikes this fragrance and could be interested to sell an unwonted bottle to me – please do contact me then!
claw1971 – :
Beautiful! A gorgeous garden of sweet smelling lilies – all fresh and dew-sprinkled. It’s such a lovely natural fragrance. It’s so soothing, so refreshing, so quiet and gentle and delicate. It’s very demure, like a beautiful elegant woman – understated yet completely noticeable. It has presence. Very charming and sensual. Just gorgeous!!! And it lasts for 14 hours, no problem. And the compliments – all the time – ‘oh you smell gorgeous!!!’ It’s one of my favourite perfumes ever!!! Heavenly!!!! Beautiful lilies. Exquisite.
KZXuqu58 – :
Exactly like a bunch of fresh oriental lilies. A clean but lush white floral with a hint of green.
kostya751 – :
I don’t care for lilies at all. However, if you can imagine the loveliest of lovely flowers, sweet, pure and intoxicating like a woman’s eyes, Un Lys is that flower. Ultra feminine, no sharp edges at all, and yes, even mouthwatering. Dear, graceful, very lady-like, she makes her presence known without raising her voice, but she most definitely gains attention. Serge Lutens really has a “nose”, doesn’t he? Exquisite and heart-breakingly beautiful from the onset through to the dry down. I cherish my bottle of Un Lys.
attalmise – :
This was my first Serge Lutens perfume and I am so happy that is was. This encompasses lily to a T. The petals, the dew on them, the air around it, the scent that lingers after you’ve smelled lillies…It is soft but bright, a very white scent. Its not overly heavy or too delicate, it is just right. You definitely need to love lillies to like this perfume. If you’re unsure if you would prefer lily as a strong heart, this is definitely the perfume to try!
Exhildbib – :
I ordered these along with SL Datura Noir (based on reviews only). Strange thing is when I smelled this first I thought, well, not my style (my boyfriend’s remark “Smells like WC air freshener” added up). Then I smelled Datura Noir which was also unpleasant but as I spent this much money on both, I just forced myself to stick with Datura Noir. After a week, when I was so pissed with Datura Noir because it just wasn’t me, I took out Un Lys. I smelled it and thought “Why the hell didn’t I like this before?”. I sprayed it and I understood what might have been the problem – the opening is really intense and almost chemical, but that’s only for 2-3 minutes. After that, it’s pleasant lilies, but not “white cotton summer dress in a meadow” lilies – these lilies are elegant and regal. For some reason, I imagine that Grace Kelly would have liked this perfume. Un Lys is princessy but not bubblegum pink Disney princess princessy. I also love smelling this on my scarf – I get musk then, but no vanilla. Too bad Un Lys is so expensive and I could only find it in a bell jar. However, if you can afford it without a headache, go ahead and try it.
tks681bedyWelty – :
I absolutely adore the opening. Gorgeous lilies! But the dry down smelled rather minty which I hate.
Alkximii – :
When I get married, if I was ever to find my better half, this is the perfume I will be wearing at my wedding. Now that might never happen, but I am saving whatever is left in my Un Lys bottle for that occasion, and I only spray a tiny puff and smell it from time to time when I need a reminder that miracles can happen, and there is someone perfect up there watching over me.
maugli78 – :
Absolutely stunning.
Lilies can be a challenge, one of those headache inducing flowers but this is gorgeous from the moment it is exposed to the air till hours later when it slips away.
I have not found many of Serge’s frags easy to love, so far. Often they are too complex or challenging for me. Un Lys is easy to love.
Unfortunately, I can’t afford a bell jar of this plus import duty etc. If this ever shows up in a smaller size, available to Canada, I will be beside myself with joy.
Sunnick – :
In my garden I have a few lillium oriental and when the bloom they odorize the most beautiful sweet and lightly spicy smell.
Un Lys however, is much greener and lighter than my garden lilys. It is beautiful, but not as sweet and voluptous. As mentioned before it is not changing much. It’s a clean and pleasant lily fragrance with a moderate sillage, but not as sweet, spicy and animalic as I was hoping for.
vkq676speagoessenda – :
Un Lys is the most sublime creamy floral – lily and vanilla join forces to produce a delicious feminine scent. It radiates from warm skin. There is zero harshness in this scent, it’s beautiful from the first spritz. Lutens and his perfumer, Sheldrake, disguise that initial alcohol blast with clever top notes.
Unlike some reviewers, I wasn’t overwhelmed by Lily of the Valley – there maybe one or two tiny nodding white bells – but nothing akin to Diorissimo. However, their purpose is only to ring in the glorious trumpeting lily – a huge white one with powdery stamens. Personally, I prefer Serge’s lily to the real deal, which I find overwhelming and would not have in the house! A creamy vanilla cloud carries Lutens’ lily.
While Un Lys doesn’t develop and change radically over the hours (like so many of Lutens perfumes), personally, I am glad. It’s beautiful. For some reason, I imagine Marilyn Monroe might have worn this if it had been around. It’s so soft and feminine.
Note: this is only available as a Bell Jar now.
milaam – :
I was expecting – due to the name no doubt – a lily note from the opening of this perfume, but instead experienced a very strong, very uncompromising, lily-of-the-valley scent.
/Soliflore/.
And it was so strong that it was tough to struggle through the first few minutes of the perfume – it was a borderline scrubber at that stage.
Why muguet (in bucketfuls!) is not listed as a topnote here is completely beyond me. 🙂
Fortunately the muguet disperses quickly, and is replaced by a subtle vanilla accompanied by another unacknowledged note; this time lilac.
Within an hour or so everything has settled and changed to a true, pure lily scent that must have been hiding under the previous, far more assertive elements.
Extremely retiring and modest, this lily smells very similar to a subdued version of the white casablanca lily. It is charming, but in a quiet way. For me, there is very little vanilla at this stage; simply lily.
By now it is scarcely more than a skin scent, one that persists for a few more hours.
Pleasant but not exceptional.
For a true lily scent (that doesn’t have a horrifying opening) I still prefer Baiser Vole.
pumper_spb – :
On me, this is a soft, yet bright, sexy Lily.
I would not call it exactly understated , it does have presence, but paired with the musk and a bit of vanilla, it keeps the Lily from becoming sharp or screechy.
A clean sensuality.
I would wear this in the spring.
I myself, would even layer this over a bit more musk and vanilla in the winter time.
Edit : The first few minutes I did get a more Lily of the Valley Muguet note, and I thought Oh No, it`s just a Lily of the Valley – but that quickly changed into the Lily, musk, and light vanilla.
bigtorrentpack – :
Does it smell like lily?
Tremendouslys! And now I have made a bilingual pun! Ha!
It smells entirely of lily, in fact. I don’t get any musk or vanilla, but it’s a clean and uncloying lily, which in my opinion is hard to achieve. I’m not especially fond of lily, but if for some reason I needed to wear it, this would be the perfume I reached for.
km555 – :
This is probably the only scent I’ve tried that I thought, “I could just bathe in this.” So delicate and so life-like white Casablanca lily. For some reason this is one of the synthetic flower scents that seems real to me. I don’t think anyone has been truly able to mimic a good tuberose or gardenia, two of the most beautiful natural flower scents in the world. But in this and in Malle’s Lys Mediteranee I really feel as though I have my nose in a vase of these flowers.
I just wish this lasted longer. It’s so fleeting and has such low sillage. Really becomes just a skin scent after a couple of hours. It’s too bad that it’s been relegated to the bell jar, because I think it’s a perfume that needs to be sprayed. I have to carry a purse atomizer to refresh, but to me it’s worth it. A special gift from my husband for our anniversary.
joubpavabal – :
A creamy and subtley skanky lily that’s at its best in the summer heat. Wonderful!
Aleksandr_bazik – :
This is more of a lily-of-the-valley (muguet) plus lilac scent, not the intoxicating lily I expected, but nice…
Халид – :
can anyone tell me where to get this. i tried online but it seems not to be listed anywhere? i am in canada.
LINCOLN – :
First spray is a BLAST of lilac and musk, on me. It’s nice, but not worth the price tag.
But, wait for it…
The drydown is the creamiest lily ever, with a hint of musk and a smooooooooooth base of perfect vanilla without *smelling* like vanilla.
D&G Feminine will work in a pinch ~ same lilac, lily, musky vanilla thing: sharp at first, super soft drydown. *Edit: that one is just as much now that it’s long d/c. Poop.
Verdict: This is truly ethereal.
Vlukiret – :
Very pretty creamy lily, not sharp. Not soapy either..
Very nicely done, I like it, although I am not a huge fan of lilies. This one is high quality, feminine, in a way delicate, it isn’t heady, rather fresh, vibrant, happy lily scent. I dont detect other notes too much, maybe a hint of vanilla that keeps the scent from being sharp.
Very nice, smells expensive, the way a true lily scent should smell, I am enjoying my small bottle!!
qos800JeomiWogkig – :
I was getting nostalgic about leaving this fragrance back home when I moved overseas and reading these comments has made me even more so!
I used to work with the Serge line and found many of his fragrances too complex or confusing for me a lot of the time, and considering I loath white florals, I didn’t think this was one for me. I was lucky enough to be given a bottle, however, and all that changed.
Un Lys is Serge’s Lily of the Valley, but on me it’s nothing like this at all. On me it smells exactly like the Star Jasmine creeper that sprawls over my Mother’s garden wall. Waking up on a summers morning and smelling the warm flowers is exactly how Un Lys is on my skin. I’ve never smelt an actual jasmine fragrance that captures the true sent of fresh, warm jasmine as this, apparently lily inspired, fragrance does.
I miss it so.
VS19 – :
Un beau lys, très linéaire, magnifique !!!
avaitasnics – :
One of the more boring ones from Serge Lutens floral line up. Open very floral, does not smell like the smell of lily that I’m familiar with though. Then the whole thing goes down hill from there. The vanilla/musk quickly takes over turning Un Lys into a generic vanilla scent
and1001 – :
Beautiful Lily, maybe the most beautiful for me. Very musky and just a little bit of vanilla in the dry down. I wish it would be a little less musk in here. But it’s really nice!
tomas911 – :
Wow, I though I didn’t like lily. I was wrong. I just don’t like synthetic lily, which this is not. This is a very relaistic white lily. Beautiful, but unfortunately disappears very quickly on me.
sanek.yura – :
Received my 32 solid samples from SL last week and i just tested it right now. It is a soft lily scent. The musk note is more prominent to me than the vanilla. The balance/contrast among the 3 notes produces a beautiful, feminine and creamy floral scent that is a must-try for all flower lovers out there. 🙂
slepoy_ – :
I received 32 solid samples from Serge Lutens for free today, this is the 2nd I rubbed on my hand. This is a nice scent. I don’t know if a solid version will smell different from a liquid version, but this is a soft, romantic soliflore lily sweetened by the musk and vanilla. Lovely!
YARIK_RAR – :
Fantastic reviews for what sounds like a very beautiful fragrance. Is this available in Australia as I think I am in love with it before I have even tried it!! I want it. Now! Please!
Ahibis – :
Oh, my. Nothing compares to this lily. Romantic, pure, shimmering, soft, luxurious, exquisite. These lilies grow in my garden and this captures them so well, with some added softness from the vanilla and musk. And Un Lys has the most perfect vanilla. For me, this perfume was ridiculously expensive but worth every penny for the pleasure it gives me.
Ranilovich – :
Well, with no expectations about Un Lys at all, I got a good surprise again.
Un Lys is beautiful.
I wonder if any of you would agree with the following: Lutens perfumes seem to be the most realistic representations of the actual ingredients, in my experience so far, that is..
I am not a big flower fan in perfume, to say the least, but this is absolute Heaven.
I want it I want it I want it.
Sillage: modest, but not too modest
Longevity: great
Remote cousin: Vintage Diorissimo by Dior, except for the musky drydown of Un Lys
shtukin – :
Very realistic white lily
D.J.Sushnyak – :
A Masterpiece
hpo – :
I tend to like big florals but this one is slightly indolic – ick. Very poor sillage and poor staying power.
Not worth the price tag. There are much nicer lily soliflores out there.
nokkot – :
‘Un lys’ is the perfect fragrance to wear to go shopping in Paris on a cold misty pre-spring day. The lily is somehow conventional and rigorous but in a quiet and exquisite way.
SANY666 – :
I get an odd “diaper wipe” type note in this that I don’t care for. I much prefer Baiser Vole for a true lily soliflore.
darginetrerge – :
Kchild’s review is right on the money. Un Lys is heaven in a bottle.
Sure, you need to be a fan of big, strong florals but even without this affinity you should try Un Lys.
It is not as heady and overwhelming as most tuberose or jasmine perfumes are. It is warm and feminine but without being too sexy. In short: it doesn’t screem at you, it sings.
If you want to know how this one compares to Lys Mediterranée (Frederic Malle): Lys Mediterranée is a lily on the sea – salty, a bit aquatic, natural and summery. Both are great perfumes but I prefer Un Lys, the angelic, creamy lily. Lys Mediterranée has never sung to me.
vanya101022 – :
Now THIS is a Lutens fragrance I can get my head around. It’s a pretty floral, and I would say it would be ideal for warmer weather. On the dry down I get a hint of nutmeg. Although I’m a lover of orientals, Un Lys makes me do a double take, but I just wish the staying power and projection were more pronounced. This one is very appealing to me, but I’d love to find a Lutens that I couldn’t live without.
vlad999 – :
I’ve worn this 3 times now (another Perfumed Court sample) and I’m torn. The opening on me is the “heavy lilac” that other people have noted, but for me it’s “lilac bug spray” which is actually kind of unpleasant. Fortunately that only lasts for about 5 minutes, then I get the softer, sweet musk with lily. I’m a huge fan of vanilla, so I love the drydown. Again, it’s not a sillage monster on me and one application lasts least 4-6 hours. Not sure I love it enough to invest in a full-size bottle, though.
dramer007 – :
The second you pick up the bottle of Un Lys invisible string instruments start to warm up. Why? Because the very moment that you depress that atomizer and release this parfum into the atmosphere a symphony begins.
As you move through your day you will be imparting beautifully scented music wherever you go.Sound corny and over the top? Then you’ve never tried this parfum.
Un Lys is a stunning full bodied lily that wafts and kisses the air w/her lushness. She’s the star of the show and allows you to be noted for your exquisite taste. She’s a true diva who takes all the credit for something that’s built to let her shine. Holding her up is a soft, deep vanille and blurring her edges is a gorgeous almost imperceptable musk. These ingrediants are layered in perfectly and create a truly creamy, almost wilting quality to this compositon. As if the lily has been in her vase for a few days and the whole house has now taken on her aroma. Fullness, decadence, excess, are words that come to mind when thinking of Un Lys.
She is delicate passion in a bottle. Seriously, look her up and see if she won’t seduce you.
(Please forgive me for the dramatic review. This perfume does that to me. I hope she’s able to do that for you too!)
gtnfh – :
Simply the most beautiful lily scent I’ve encountered. On my skin, it’s clean and transparent, with a subtle green freshness and just the most delicate hint of musky spice. Thank goodness it’s not weighed down by jasmine, tuberose, gardenia or any other big white floral. It’s got just a touch of vanilla, but not drowning in it, so the effect is softening without being sickeningly sweet. It’s creamy without being cloying or foody. Classically beautiful and sexy, sensuous, unapologetically cool and elegant, I love it.
xcho86 – :
Massive disappointment!
This has a sharp bug-spray-ish note and, is overly sharp and heavy.I don’t get it. I just don’t like this scent. I guess I am back to CD’s Diorissimo for now and forever.
mordun1968 – :
Reminds me of Donna Karan Gold but Un Lys is more floral. It’s very green, leafy and less spicy.
ruslan224 – :
I want to thank Fragrantica also for sending me a sample of Un Lys. As a man, I kind of tend to ignore florals, and never would have given it a second look. It does, however, smell beautiful on me, and I am seriously considering a full bottle! I’m also now curious about other lily scents, and will investigate! In the meantime, Un Lys is gorgeous!
cyp808speagoessenda – :
With first appliance to my skin it opens
with a sweet acidic note which you find similar to tuberose then dries down with a
bit of amber with patches of musk i can detect a hint of tuberose which is harsh at first but becomes softer and more wearable as it dries down.
With one sniff Un Lys conjures an image
of a early summer afternoon on a Sunday
around the early 1900’s in a small town in northern France Laziness ruled the day not much work to be done so sitting in their armchairs basking in the sun
thinking their idle thoughts;
a young lady tall and slender with dark
brown hair with a white cotton gauze gown walking around a field of white Lillies wet from from the early morring rains reading a note that her lover had sent her do you think she’ll be to biased to turn down his offer for marriage?
this is one of the most romantic and brings out delicate feelings when wearing this masterpiece.
gafson4ik – :
I have recently fallen in love with lily scents and this is one of the best. The topnote is pure lily: sensuous, creamy, thick, and moist. The dry down smells a little lemony. If you want a perfume that says, “summer”, this is it.
tyomich – :
Not a huge fan of lily scents,(tropical and white florals usually go badly wrong on me) I tried this reluctantly, but it is a surprising and true rendition of lilies. Fresh, dense and tropical, this smells like a lily just as it’s been cut, without dirty or green notes. Just that creamy tropical lush you get with a dew-fresh flower. Amazing. It is a definite soliflore, but the name alone would indicate that. Very lovely.
akvilibriumee – :
Thank you, Fragrantica, for sending me a sample of Un Lys!
This perfume is a MUST TRY for floral lovers. It is surprisingly simple. When first applied, I smelled pure lily, and that was all. But it was such a natural lily-smell! Like taking a whiff from the real flower. As time went on I caught just a little bit of the vanilla and musk, but just barely. Lily was still center-stage and beautiful. I don’t know if this perfume is quite right for me personally, but it’s wonderful.
iuretss – :
Oh my, I think I’m back to being in love with florals! I was fortunate to have a sample sent from the amazing fragratica gods and I wonder now if that’s exactly what they are; fragrance gods.
I have been searching and searching for both a vanilla and a simple floral for some time and here they are in one bottle. The Lily is lush and rounded and blooms in accord with the vanilla, which sweetens and turns the flower into something edible and delicious. The musk sensualizes the harmony of lily and vanilla and I cannot get enough of how feminine and sophisticatedly sexy this is. I must now get my hands on a bottle!
seregasimf – :
Surprisingly simple but still beautiful… this could be its title.
There is something sensuous and lush in this simplicity. It wears close to the skin, quite soft and creamy for a lily fragrance. Probably the musk has something to do with it.
Lovely balance between these two notes, not a heavy floral, neither a thick muskiness. I don’t see any green notes here but there is a sophisticated freshness in it as well. The vanilla note is just a shadow for the first hour. It comes in quietly and suddenly becomes an equal player in the dry down.
I appreciate it even more as I have Penhaligon’s Lily and Spice on the other wrist. Actually this comparison is very helpful. Somehow I discover an unpleasant note in the second one, note I didn’t notice at the first try. I guess I will have to update that review.
Lush, sensuous and creamy lilies. Adorable.
One of the best.

This is beautiful-smells exactly of a fresh boquet of oriental lilies- one of the truest lily perfumes ever. If you don’t love lilies step away!
blank0s – :
As VioletLily said, this is one of the most beautiful lily fragrances. Another beautiful, more dynamic, is Lys by Le Jardin Retrouve.
This is my kind of fragrances when I want to relax and feel myself cozy and peaceful. I can’t say it’s sexy, but very feminine fragrance. I have been looking for this fragrance for years. For me this scent is very calm and quite, first lily fragrance with such peaceful temper.
RulLEZz – :
I can`t agree more, Violet Lily`s review is beautiful!
It is a true white lily, i have them in my garden and love them.Un Lys is an ultimate lily, fully opened, gorgeous, with dew inside…Lovely.
77rakovich – :
VioletLily. You took the words right out of my mouth.
Memjg146intitytek – :
This was the worst perfume I’ve ever encountered. I felt like I’d buried my head in a vase full of cemetery flowers. I know other love this, but it was WASH OFF IMEEDIATELY for me.
Moctovi19 – :
It’s so deep lily.
Large garden of lilies, after a hot day, his rich heady aroma. One minute, it remindes me lilac, but no, it’s not lilac. They are lighter and don’t have ground of green leaf odor.
In the end smell of lilies is not so bright, reveals musk.
I can’t wear this, it’s pressure me.
susylan – :
This is the most beautiful lily scent I’ve had the pleasure to smell. More than that, one of the most beautiful florals I’ve experienced. It’s serene and sexy at the same time. Fresh yet lusciously deep. I came home after testing this, Tiempe Passate and Fracas and my SO said, “You smell lovely!” I thought it was the Fracas, assuming it was the strongest, but no… it was the Un Lys! And four hours and a shower later, it’s still there – albeit very softly now. My man sniffed my arm again and tried to eat it. It’s just that deliciously gorgeous. Oh, I want this.
