vozhd1908 – :
I blind bought this one for a good price, thinking it might be similar to the discontinued and really good Bermuda Tonic by Aramis (considering the notes). I think Totally You is better, as the rum note is there at first and goes strong for a very long time. The other notes are supporting players (I was expecting some sharp fruit notes but there is nothing like that), though they do a great job in preventing this from being merely rum flavoring/extract. It’s a little sweet, but just a touch musky, and no discernible lavender! Over time a mild wood note comes forward, but everything is as natural smelling as one could expect in a “lower end” designer (I don’t get any dihydromyrcenol, calone, etc.). I don’t understand the light blue color, though; this should be light brown or reddish brown, or even light red instead. And despite watermelon being listed, I don’t detect it and this is not any kind of aquatic scent. I have also tried the first “masculine” of this company and that one is very good too, but definitely “old school”/mature.
Over time, I began to think of the Perry Ellis “oud” scent, Black Vanilla Absolute, and again, I think I prefer this one! BVA is clearly “darker,” but not by that much, and I don’t think the dryness of BVA works well with the rum idea (and I’ve got Joop! Wild for that in any case). Totally You is a soft rum/vanilla scent with a bit of “darkness,” and it smells more natural to me than others that can be compared to it. I only used one spray to the chest, and I don’t think it was even a full one, so a couple of sprays may lead to a “darker” impression. Longevity was excellent and projection is at least very good with the one spray!
