Within French Polynesia, the most famous island without question is Tahiti. The beauty of Tahiti is so enchanting that it is considered by many to be the closest there is to heaven on earth, and Tahitians themselves believe they are the descendants of heaven. In 1767, Samuel Wallisbecame the first European to discover the island of Tahiti. The second person to step foot on Tahiti was the French voyager, Bougainvillein April 1768. Subsequently in Bougainville’s travel accounts, he described the island as an earthly paradise, where men were “noble savages” and women were like Venus.

Tahiti enjoys a mild tropical climate all year round with an annual average temperature of 27°C. Its landscape includes lush rain forests, multitudes of flourishing flowers and pristine streams, flanked by a backdrop of coconut trees swaying in the wind. The island consists of two rounded portions connected by a short isthmus. The north-western portion is known as “big Tahiti”, while the smaller south-eastern portion is known as “small Tahiti”. From a bird’s eye view, the island of Tahiti resembles the mermaid depicted in Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale – with “big Tahiti” as the head, and “small Tahiti” as the tail.

Between the clear blue ocean and white sand, the most beguiling is the Tahitian gardenia, the national flower of Tahiti, and its smooth and refined scent that saturates the entire island. Its fragrance that brings life and vitality is sweet and floral, with base notes of jasmine and orange blossoms. The Tahitian gardenia symbolizes elegance, love and reunion. The Tahiti Gardenia 大溪地栀子花 was launched in 2014.
