Description
Opus VI, presented as a romantic fragrance creating its own vivid memories, is a woody amber oriental, inspired by the traditional medicine for broken hearts, amber.
But whereas traditional amber is created through balsamic raw materials, creative director Christopher Chong approaches this most traditional concept through a modern lens, fusing synthetic molecules with a decidedly modern olfactory profile, such as Ambranum and Z11. This supposedly helps create a discordant effect which is not unlike the emotional frame of when someone tries to forget the memories of a heartache!
According to Chong: ” Personal memories are a fragmented journey into our lives. A source of profound knowledge, a sort of secret diary in the minds of each of us”.
top: Sichuan pepper, incense, Pimenta aracemosa (bay rum)
heart: periploca graeca (silk vine), cypriol (cyperus oil), patchouli
base: ambranum, Z11, Cistus ladanifer (rock rose), sandalwood
The Library Collection Opus VI was launched in 2012.

yeah…well not that monster people say it is…and nothing extraordinary when it comes to smelling this.
ps; i wonder if its the reformulation
simkov-o – :
I really wanted to love Opus 6 but i only like it. It’s very complex but it has some medicinal smell that i don’t like. Jubilation is the best from the house.
nuiacsov90 – :
Formulation change! I purchased 4 different bottles from 4 different, reputable sellers and the formulation is definitely changed. The opulence is gone! I have only mls left of the original.

More on a feminine side BUT this won’t be the case if smelled on a man dressed up in tuxedo. They will be even too shy to complement you about this fragrance, because they might think you’re the ROYAL FAMILY.
maschinzer – :
I like this one. Smells like rich Arabs. Sometimes it reminds me of classic perfumes when i was a kid. I only wear this to special events. So a full bottle will last a lifetime. One of my fave in Opus range alongside Opus X. Perfumista must have this.
arcandDrorret – :
Made by the Gods…and with something so obviously amber-centric, I have no idea how anyone could smell SOAP. It can be called a lot of things good and bad I suppose…but soap, is a new one on me. Not for the meek or ambivalent. When I wear it, I’m thinking about that Hall & Oates tune, “Maneater”. One of the scents I’ll always own. Honestly, one bottle is probably enough to last a lifetime. I spray it twice on my torso…once on a wrist, and I’ll rub it on the other. And my wrists don’t carry scents very well but for the extremely heavy ones like VI.

Although a huge fan of Amouage, I have to go against the grain here with Opus VI; Opus VI was strong and overbearing, I mean sweetly animalic super strong, IMHO!!
Don’t get me wrong I think it has some great qualities that makes this stand out among its counterparts, however I couldn’t get past the incensey, almost [sweetly] BO smell that enveloped as the fragrance evolved.
A little leaked out onto my fingers and it was a huge bubble of a fragrance even from my fingers. Silage is outstanding; Projection is massive; Longevity is through the roof; Performance is off the charts. I must give this high ratings from an artistic viewpoint because it is done quite well. Just not my cup of tea though!
Two fragrances Amouage Opus VI reminds me of: L’Artisan Timbuktu and also, Jubilation XXV. The difference is all have an animalic nuance, however Timbuktu’s sweetly nuance is toned down a bit and Jubilation XXV’s nuance comes through in the blackberry note.
Both of the latter, IMHO, have done the sweet incensey thing a little better than Opus VI to my nose.
Amouage has some really intriguing and amazing fragrances however, I will have to pass on Opus VI and allow my fellow fragrance friends enjoy what I just couldn’t!!
Performance: 8.5/10
Projection: 9/10
Longevity: 9/10
Silage: 8.5/10
Overall: 8 or 9 out of 10 (for pure fragrance)
(Although not a fan of this, still wanted to give an honest rating for those who do enjoy this…)

Pretty linear, the 3 chords from top to heart are:
Soap, soap & soap
Uttesetat – :
Just a few points on my sample.
Very nice, smooth balsamic fragrance.
I was expecting more Labdanum, like TF Sahara Noir, as some comparisons where made.
I think there’s more oud than Labdanum, but mostly benzoin and Strax I think.
There’s some nice green notes.
Reminds me most of MFK Velvet Mood.
Amber is usually mostly Labdanum, but it is a combo of balsams, as is the case here.
This is reminding me now of Jubilation XXV without the fruity notes.
There’s a bit of spiciness and vanilla.
bjm549Diobtetty – :
my most complimented fragrance! Every time i wear it, many people ask me what is the fragrance i wear. One of the best in the world and for sure the best in the library collection line. This one and Epic are the top from Amouage

Smells like a combination of Tom Ford Man (but a little sweeter),incense, fresh paper money and immortelle. Rich, unique, long lasting and respectable.

Wow! amber, vanilla and cream feast. Two sprays and its there the whole day, just how I like it! Bottle worthy and of course dont blind buy. This could very well be my signature. Very strong and lasting juice.
Nat79 – :
Probably the most beautiful amber based fragrance in the world today this masterpiece from Amouage blends ambranum with gorgeous Omani frankincense and a host of other luxurious Oriental accords such as sandalwood, pepper, cistus, and patchouli to create an almost divine ambrosia that has to be smelled to be believed. This is gorgeous unisex beautiful elegance with tremendous projection and sillage. Quite easily the crowning jewel of Amouage’s Library Collection, this is an absolute must have for for all lovers of exotic Orientals and amber based perfumes Gorgeous!

The King’s Scent
A must-have in library collection line
Simply, it’s a luxurious golden perfume, which gives me a lot of confidence.
Kind of boozy with strong incense and oriental spicy notes. The Opus VI has aristocratic golden color, imagine if Pharaoh was alive it could be his perfume. It has some gourmand sweetness of amber and earthy notes of patchouli which I cannot stop sniffing my wrist
The silage is heavy and longevity +10h. on skin and +12h. on clothes
overall 10/10

Some might not agree with the hype but I must admit that this is a fragrance from the opus line that really grasp me as some of the opus line is truly for those that are well aware of what quality ingredients should smell like and truly value them even though those in the main stream may be lost and hate that sort of scent. I’m no pro but this is very nice and doesn’t resemble any other fragrance I own. It is smoky but not like black orchid or amouage interlude but because the amber mixed with the rum and sandalwood create a bloody sweetness that cloak the incense smokiness and create a smooth balsamic base that only enhances the beauty of the other ingredients and makes this a real unisex masterpiece that is neither masculine or feminine but just right for both and just as beautiful for either. This is better at night in cool to cold weather and only then it’s show its quality to even a person who is new to niche fragrances. Projection/10
Silage/10
Logevity/10
Scent smell/8 for those that know when something is synthetic and cheap and may irritate those with allergies and/or sensitive skin. Starts off with a nice bouquet then dies down 1 hour after the alcohol dissipates only to heat up in a few minutes and start projecting again for at least 6 hours then gets closer but never becoming a skin scent until after 8-10 hours.
Лыткаринец – :
Extra, extra, read all about it!
Opus VI is the note of incense at its most opulent best. It reminds me of the sumptuous smell of the homes of affluent Middle Eastern sheikhs and businessmen.
Opus VI is a mixture of incense, oud, and amber that infers a lifestyle of luxury, grandeur and splendour.
I don’t need to mention that the performance is out of this world. One or two sprays max, and you’re good to go for the next day or so.
I tend to shower 3 times daily but even such an obsessive habit does not even put a minute dent in Opus VI’s performance.
Amouage, we salute you! 10/10
trezyxct – :
This is something special. It does not resemble anything I know. It is very poweful, but in a mild way 🙂 Can be worn by men and women in any season. Extremely well balanced. I could sniff my hand all day long. It is worth the money, there’s no doubt about that.
adidas8887 – :
I always get compliments whenever I wear this one. On of my favorites. Long lasting and very good projection.
sviktor8 – :
Sampled it, and smells like soap
Sprayed it on paper week ago and still smell like soap
Is it the same perfume that you all talk about?!
spartanec87 – :
Opus 6 is part of my trifecta of Amouage faves, Jubilation and Interlude being the other two. Straight up I would like to say this is by and large an Incense frag. If Incense is not your thing, probably be a good idea to sample this first and not do a blind buy despite all the hype.
You get a hit of the incense right away on first spray along with the pepper and herbal leafiness of the bay note. The Incense stays to be joined by the nagarmotha mostly in the heart and then the labdanum and amber add a layer to the base along with some woody notes from the sandalwood. In summation, Amouage does great incense frags and this is one of the best out there. Smells very rich and opulent and gives me immense pleasure every time I spray this.
Projection is quite monstrous the first hour or so, people will smell you when you walk into a room. It settles a bit after that but always has a nice scent bubble around you for most of the scent life. Longevity likewise is good, I get about 8 hours regularly. Two other favourite frags of mine it reminds me of are L’Artisan’s Timbuktu and Tom Fords now sadly discontinued Sahara Noir. If you like either of those two, do get your hands on Opus 6. This is a Love for me. 9/10
Alexandr9212 – :
My favorite out of my Amouage collection of 11 bottles. You can not go wrong with this special scent. I get so many compliments and the women do pay attention. It makes me feel above the norm & no one ever smelt better than I do when I am wearing this Opus VI. I love all of my Amouage collection, but this one is the top, then Epic Man and Interlude Man, followed by the others I have.
I recon that it will be a very long time, before there is a fragrance that can beat Opus VI. In my opinion, Opus VI is the best perfume in the world.
UPDATE:
On comparing Opus VI to my bottle of Pardon, Opus VI is very similar on my skin and out performs Pardon by miles. It’s like Opus VI is on steroids.
K.Zulechka – :
This starts off with the signature Amouage incense. It then gives way to a background of amber and a little spice, that is kept there by the incense. It then travels into the incense stage where you will smell incense. From there it will remain a spicy incense. This is a really powerful fragrance and you’ll be smelling it for a while. The incense I mean. I’ma pass.
lozovoigena12 – :
This is KING.100/10
StjepanEmo – :
From the first spray, Opus VI delivers: richness, opulence, complexity. One of the best from the Opus line, without a doubt, it has the typical Amouage exquisite incense, blended masterfully with spices and a sweet amber. A must try for lovers of these kind of scents.
Performance is excellent.
OY.Arinaa – :
One word sums this fragrance up. HEAVENLY.
lu4fer – :
There is a filthy animal (not just animalic!) note in the opening phase, however this is nicely offset by the amber, incense and spices.
Key to understanding the spicy aspect of this perfume I believe is the West Indian Bay or “pimenta racemosa.” Some brief research tells me that this type of bay leaf contains notes of nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, and vanilla. This explains why the fragrance feels so richly spiced, whilst having a fairly simple note pyramid with relatively few notes.
The later development of this fragrance (after 6 hours) really surprised me. Just when I thought it had faded to a whisper of amber with dry woods, I suddenly smelt the spicy bay leaf note reappear. Wow! Then the whole thing seemed to resurrect itself, and now, 8 hours in, has gained new life on my skin.
Not unlike Jubilation XXV there is a slight ghosting effect, where the fragrance seems to disappear then reappear. However, it is now very much “there” again, as a rich and strong amber.
Speaking of Jubilation XXV, in my view Opus VI is the fragrance that Jubilation was always trying to be.
Opus VI feels like REAL opulence and luxury….Opus VI is the true King; Jubilation is a mere pretender to the throne.
valdis33 – :
Hey! I found an amouage I can really enjoy 🙂
this one is right up my alley. Leather with a kick, spices – just pungent enough to be noticed, but still retains it’s smooth edges. Having sampled all of the “amouage men” – this is by far my favorite. I will continue to on with the library collection to see if I can find more!
realrocker – :
I like different perfumes for different reasons…but this scent and Opus V, may very well be the best fragrance in my entire collection. And Opus V & VI are the heaviest scents I own, hands down.
both V & VI, give me every single thing that I look for in a fragrance, be it niche or designer. I actually took a liking to V, before VI. This one grew on me, and now I know in my gut, there is no way I could ever NOT like this one. Ive even made the mistake of applying too much of it (6 sprays…completely unnecessary), and got a stomach ache and a headache, at the same time…AND STILL!!!..when I recovered, I became an even bigger fan. of its sheer elegance and power.
far too many ‘noses’, fail in the most important facets of perfume making. But the designer will ask for a lot of money, just the same. Amouage does not indulge in such bullshit, in my opinion. If there is a company out there that gives you more bang for your buck, its definitely Amouage.
projection…longevity…sillage…and very solid note construction, is basically what this scent is known for. It literally took my breath away, the first time I sniffed a tester @ Scent Bar, in LA. And a common fragrance sniffer (my cousin, who was with me, the day I first smelled it in Scent Bar) will tell you it smells like a very high grade incense. (which isnt a negative comment at all).
its surreal..it has depth..its also thought-provoking, where it forces you to THINK about why it smells so damn good. And you know you’re dealing with a true blue niche scent, when everything about it, smells organic and palpable.
there are very, very few scents made as well, with the kind of mass appeal that Amouage/Opus VI, has. Ive smelled the vintage, YSL/M7..and tho’ this scent doesnt smell like it, a comparison can be made as to M7 being a ‘Holy Grail’ among designer scents. People, talk about that vintage juice in very hushed and reverent tones.
and now Opus VI has supplanted M7 in my opinion, regarding why and how, it should be put in its own catagory. It has no peer and nothing smells like this. A perfect scent. And tho’ Ive never been to Bangladesh or Egypt, when I wear this stuff, I imagine Im living in an exotic place, where Ive just bought some body oil that smells like Opus VI, in the nook of an outdoors, spice market..sold to me, by some incredibly old shaman-type, who has one good eye, while the other eye is covered in a milky glaze…he also has one tooth in his head and a very deep, raspy voice. And were it not for how desperate I was to buy this oil, he’d scare the hell outta me.
ask yourself, if there is anything in the inventory of Azzaro or Calvin Klein, that can evoke that kind of image in your minds’ eye.
mex7773 – :
A great example of an Amouage beast fragrance living up to the hype. Opus VI is the first of the library collection that I’ve sampled, and is fittingly the first as it’s the most hyped so far, hailed as a cold weather masterpiece.
Opus VI is a bit of a chameleon since, in its essence, it’s a mix of incense, amber, and pepper, but it certainly seems like there’s some underlying complexity that I cannot identify that easily. It feels urbane, sophisticated, something to be reserved for evenings and formal occasions, but not just to be worn out casually, and certainly only to be worn in the colder months in my opinion.
Performance is superior—a strong blast from the onset without signs of slowing down hours into wearing, and one that seems like it’ll cling all day. Apply carefully.
It’s sufficiently biting and dirty that I wouldn’t given it the absolute highest marks, but Opus VI is surely on my list of acquisitions as far as cold weather fragrances, but for down the road. Despite its hefty retail pricing of $355 for 100ml, it’s available for US customers at FragranceNet and BeautySpin for $160, very much on par with the pricing of other Amouage fragrances.

I love amber, and I have a wide range of amber fragrances in my collection. Opus VI is the most sophisticated, most artistic and luxurious amber fragrance I have.
Ambra Aurea from the impressive house of Profumum Roma comes second only because it doesn’t have the sophistication of Opus VI.
Opus VI is potent, rich, graceful, and powerful. It oozes confidence. It is unisex, but I don’t see women wearing it. You have to be really confident to wear this because this is a monster of a fragrance that turns head and gets noticed.
If Interlude is the darkest and most bad ass fragrance Amouage offers, Opus VI is the most complex and luxurious offering from them.
Opus VI demands respect. Indescribable and unbelievably luxurious spicy fragrance. +24 hours longevity.
Perfection, absolute perfection.

Almost citrus like aromatic note supported by a soft, cuddly amber. The amber isn’t your typical vanilla-like amber but a soft, powdery sweetness that reminds me of Perfume Calligraphy Rose. The amber definitely takes a back seat to the tart herbaceous heart, though. A grand, stately fragrance. If this is a library, it’s an ancient library in the east, filled with the wisdom of the ancient world. Remains fairly linear although the amber fades – the cetalox-like green note stays strong, though. Not exaclty my style note-wise but meticulously and beautifully done. All the Amouage fragrances I’ve tried have a lush opulence and classic, timeless feel and this one is no exception. If you want to project wealth and taste, wear an Amouge.
jim101 – :
Probably because my reference Amber is 114 and a collection of Middle Eastern Resinous Oils, I find Opus Six more of a Frankincense, High Quality Synthetic concoction.
The Ambranum, Z11 (Whatever that is)and Chinois Pepper combine to provide an irritant that tickles my Carnal Nerve Centers and a heat to draw my breath away.
A Citrus note balances with counterpoint, to highlight a gorgeous, non bitter and dusty Frankincense.
Lovely.
vetalgolova – :
IMO Opus VI it’s constructed around the axis ”amber and sandalwood”. It’s one of the most warm fragrances that I have ever smelled. Another notes that I perceive are the sichuan pepper and patchouli.
Opus VI it’s very opulent and thick fragrance. IMO it’s something more masculine that feminine since has a marked ”dry woody” character. Suitable for Autumn and Winter.

I agree with the poster below and thankfully I don’t get any sweaty armpit vibe at all. On the opening there is a fleeting almost imperceptible animalistic note but passes within minutes if not seconds.
One word can sum up this fragrance…..WOW………how can something so perfect and rounded be bottled like this. Amouage have produced some of the most groundbreaking and incredible scents, and in my opinion this is up there with the Very best.
I sat on the fence with this one for a long time after reading so many varied reviews ,both good and bad, and can finally say how I find it, and that is a magnificent warm, slightly spicy, slightly sweet, citrusy honey Amber laced glow. The power seems to grow in intensity as the hours pass then settles finally into what can only be described as pure scent heaven. In 30 or so years of travelling the fragrance train I think I can honestly say this is up in the top tier of anything I have ever tried. this also was a blind buy, and I feel like I have won the lottery.

I am in love. Hands down my favorite Amouage perfume so far. This is what I’m looking for in a perfume: warm, spicy goodness. I was worried because some reviewers reported a sweaty note but I get none of that. What’s interesting is this scent is warm but also aromatic and woody. It’s like the faint scent of crushed pine needles beneath the smoke and warmth. This is very powerful. Just one spray on my wrist is projecting powerfully. This was a blind buy but I have absolutely no regrets. Get this.

Hi Guys – I just bought a bottle of this online and received it this morning. The color of the perfume in the bottle seems darker than the one advertised in the pictures on websites like Selfridges. I am not sure whether that is normal or maybe the pictures on the site are not an accurate reflection. Would be grateful for any advise?
lumikko – :
I am so glad I did not blind buy. I got a 5ml sample and was appalled by the strong civet or castoreum that totally ruined it! All the wood and spice in the world could not get my attention away from the animalic odor! I mean who wants to smell like a sweaty armpit!?
PeegaindGraig – :
Smelling “Opus VI”, I can imagine opening an old, baize-lined cabinet, that once held jars of spice and incense, now only existing as an echo imbued in the wood.
The warm, resinous sweet tones reminded me slightly of the spiced rum opening in “Bentley For Men”. Perhaps the shared bay leaf and amber give that gourmand impression?
“Opus VI” is less sweet than Bentley, with a smokier, Churchier quality, but it is delightfully smooth, rounded and inviting, with a gentle persistence.
An evocative, tranquil scent, which I would recommended to fans of “Amber Oud” by Kilian or Lubin’s “Akkad”.

I have tested many of the OPUS. This is by far the best.
It opens delicious with sweet wood, cocos and nuts. In the heart notes it continues with different complex wood and herbs.
After a while (2 hours) it develop more sweetness. Like dry rum cask but not with the bitter. A bit floral, mixed into the sweetness. Good combination. More to masculine side than feminine.
It lasts forever, and 1 spray should be all you need for one day. I love this!
II and IV are also my favorits (a bit similar scents, woody, sweet, complex and elegant)
TigidegoSok – :
One of the most profound scents I’ve yet to have the pleasure of sitting with. But it’s something you need to be in the right mood for, because this fragrance is ever present and cannot be ignored. The potency and staying power of Opus VI demand that you remain in the moment, shrouded, as it were, in this beguiling cloak of incense, amber, bay, patchouli and wood. It will transport you to the heart of life in Oman, surround you in smoke and mystery, whilst effortlessly transcending the grey melange of life. This is not something one would wear every day, nor is it something to be toyed with amongst mere mortals. This is heavy, mystical, contemplative and sure, with timeless gravitas and endless significance. A triumph in contemporary perfumery.

AMOUAGE OPUS VI – THE PRINCE OF PERSIA
This is more than a scent, a fragrance, this is an experience blended with such amazing brilliance and complexity it makes me want to cry a little. It tells a story. The prince of persia
Stage 1 / first 3 hours
The prince of persia fights a man who stole a sacred painting from the temple.. An old sacred temple, the finest incense is burning.. it’s strong.. there is a faint smell of an animal.. a goat or a horse.. must be the labdanum.. there is booze.. must be the criminal, he reeks of rum.. everything is supposed to be peaceful but it’s not, u can sense ANGER, blood.. The prince is angry..
Stage 2 / 3 – 6 hours
The prince has left the temple and is now with his concubine he has changed to clothes only fit for a prince he is dressed in white everything is white, but he didnt shower. he smells of incense but it’s not strong.. the criminal has rubbed off some of the booze on him, he smells of rum.. and incense.. he is with his concubine.. he doesn’t love her but she was given to him by his father the king. he treats her with kindness but not tenderness, she likes the way he smells.. he smells rough but refined at the same time.. it’s the amber.. the amber tries to calm the fire of the incense and the booze and the smoke and it succeds for a while.. but the fire lurks.. never fully going away.. , she likes it.. he doesn’t smell like a spoiled prince. he smells like a king.. he is her king..
Stage 3 / 6 – 9 hours
The fire is finally reduced to ashes. the prince is back in his palace with his wife.. the woman he loves with all his heart and has loved since he was a teenager. he is naked, only she is allowed to see all of him, she smells like vanilla ice cream, his heart yearns for her.. he wants to treat her better, she deserves better.. but he is a prince.. he can show no weakness, no emotion.. there’s a flower somewhere.. he couldn’t help it.. he brought his wife a flower (a rose maybe?).. she knows where he has been she can smell some feminine oils on him.. she starts to cry.. he kisses her and wipes her tears off.. she melts, he then carries her and throws her on the bed in one motion.. she wonders how he can be so soft but yet so firm.. so dominant, so possesive but yet so tender..
Amouage Opus VI smells like a prince who was born into infinite opulence.. a prince with a tender heart who sees people suffer amd hurts inside.. An angry prince with a tender heart. a man of honor, an emotional and sensitive man who has learned to build strength from weakness.

Fresh green olives, diced and mixed in vanilla ice cream, that’s what OPUS VI smells like to me. A very strong frag, if not careful on the trigger it will nauseate me. Just a half spray on the side of my neck will last all day. When I first got it, I put like 3 sprays before going out, big mistake!, one hour later I started to feel sick to my stomach, it literally ruined my night. When harnessed properly it is a wonderful scent, the only problem is that it only comes on 100 ML bottles, almost enough for 4 lifetimes, if interested, try to get it on a split, 30 ML should be enough for the rest of your life!

Oud? What oud?!
I get sweet, spicy Amber, then some kind of rich rose, incense, sandalwood, and then a mellow suede-like Amber glow once again.
At first, I was worried this was going to be way too sweet for me, but like others have said, apply a little less aggressively and you’ll get the full effect of the other well-blended notes coming to the surface.
Strangely, it’s both light and dense at times, maybe depending on what your nose chooses to focus on. But because of this complexity, I think it’s versatile for nearly year round wear. Maybe a little intense if oversprayed in the summertime…so use caution, of course.
Price? Yes, this one can be pricey. But Opus VI isn’t full of empty promises. It delivers and is generous with both projection and longevity. You just have to know how to shop this one. There’s no reason you have to pay full retail, even though it’s worth it.
Kneectpeexy – :
Opus VI is such a seductive scent without necessarily being sexual or sensual, but rather a sensory invitation to empty the mind and throw the receptors wide open.
The choice of ingredients here leads me on a trail of curiosity, where the my scent buds that have been desensitized by overused notes are teased awake by uncommon elements.
In my opinion, bay leaf is not used enough in perfumery, and the opening of Opus VI delivers this note in its fresh, green state rather than dry herb. Incense is also prominent as sweetness enters in, then softened by labdanum with its botanical muskiness.
Cypriol and sichuan pepper add a spicy glow which is fresh and piquant. I’m not finding a whole lot on silk vine, although I understand that the plant has a milky sap. Such plants I relate to as being poisonous with a ‘cotton-mouth’ vibe–medicinal at the very least.
The usual patchouli, amber and sandalwood base give Opus VI a satisfying base which pulls all the unfamiliarities together, with a shadow of labdanum morphing into its faintly sour, musky, ambery resin.
Opus VI is an enticing scent journey that finishes as an uplifting, well balanced and wearable fragrance. A beguiling chapter in the Library Collection.
