Been here and there with this one.
I agree it smells soapy. Just simple, green, herbaceous soap.
On the other hand I agree this is more of a modern take on the Guerlain Vetiver than any flanker of Terre. But, IMO Guerlain’s fragrance is classy – the newest Terre d’Hermes Eau Intense Vetiver – not so much.
Performs quite good in rainy days and I’d say that’s what it’s meant for.
I’ll keep the bottle to see how it performs in high heat and high humidity next summer. For now 3/5. Not bad but not Ellena’s level.

very expensive SOAP, non-pleasant and harsh.
There is the same problem with this one as well as with Eau Tres Fraiche.
Both has beautifull crisp openings but after half an hour the drydown is awfull.
    DO NOT BLIND BUY THIS!!!

I agree with Smello. This reminds me of Guerlain’s Vetiver but smoother. It has less focus on the bitter orange (peel) of the original Terre and more on the zest of citrus fruit. It smells good.

Tried this while walking through the airport and I must say it is ok. Smells like a “creamier” version of Guerlain Vetiver with added citruses. Still prefer the original Terre but this is good in its own right. If you like vetiver scents but want something less sharp and more mellow, this is a good pickup.

I tried it yesterday in Moscow. If u have ever been to russian bathhouse – wet sauna, or ‘banya’ – then you will immediately recognize this scent: it smells exactly as a soaked birch broom used in a steam room. Sounds ridiculous, but that’s it. Well, not bad, but not a high-end fragrance, especially for russians.

Here is another creation that reminds 95% of my beautiful Vetiver de java of “Il Profvmo”. The other 5% is given by Sichuan pepper but that is perhaps why I prefer Vetiver de java.
However, it remains very good but has nothing innovative.

I had try on the paper in the airport and decide to buy it because I has been TDH for a long time. When I ask staff to try on my wrist and apply the original on another wrist, I told them that I change my mind. I do not need it more. I try to compare both wrist and finally I love the original one not this one. After that I go to wait for the boarding. Around 30 minutes, I feel that a lot of thing change. I like it. This is the same story that I face with the original one. Finally, when I arrive the destination airport, I decide to buy this one. The smell for the open is (quite) un acceptable. It is the smoky side of vetiver like Guerlain and a small orange for you to touch that I don’t like the smoke side but I prefer the softer one but after wait it settle, I think this should be one of may favorite like its brother. It is TDH and vetiver.

A Deeper, darker and woodier interpretation of original.
The orange is much less pronounced. This makes the fragrance more of a deep, full and smooth fragrance instead of the invigorating citrus and almost violet feel ( not smell ) of the original.
I get a good 5 to 7 hours and good performance all around.
If you like encre noire, deep woody scents, or are very masculine you will like this.
This is not unappealing, but is less mass appealing. Thus, it will likely to offend the sauvage fanboys.
If you already own and like this try ambre sultan and tom ford for him extreme

    On initial trial smells interesting
Starts very bright and citrusy then somehow becomes more mature than the rest of TdH line.
The quality of Vetiver is great BUT performance is a bit below expectations
Will have to try it more.
For now I’m a bit disappointed with the performance

Beautiful creation of Hermes. Indeed this is a new creation. It’s Hermes’s take on vetiver, to be compared with Guerlain’s Vetiver extreme or Lalique’s Encre Noires Sport, not a flanker of TdH (despite keeping its DNA).
I love it. Buy it for the vetiver, not for the orange or to remind you the original TdH. That said, like Dior, it is hardly possible to find Hermes’s perfumes discounted online. There may thus be better deals on vetiver than this one.
Should you be interested, I suggest to read the “Quest For THE Vetiver Cologne” on basenotes.net

Twangy oranges with loads of pepper sprinkled on top, that is what is in this bottle, based on the sample I smelled, it drydowns to a strong masculine fragrance of vetiver, it deserves attention, got a bottle, will blast thru this scent this fall, this fragrance will last at least 8 hours, and it will still linger on as skin scent well thru your day or events.

This is Terre for the younger crowd. Terre was a full bodied, spicy dish that can suit anyone … with the right level of confidence. Eau Intense Vetiver is for those still looking for their foothold. It’s a citron sorbet flanker for Guerlain’s Vetiver with a lot of pepper. Lasts roughly 16 hours.

It’s getting weirder by the minute with Hermes fragrances these days. I mean after some recent very strange entries by Ms. Nagel, now a …… Vetiver?! How creative! Like this world really needs another mediocre Vetiver frag, right?
I totally agree with reviewers spcmiller and antonpan, that ever since Ms. Nagel took over from Mr. Ellena, she’s been restlessly dishing out mediocre stuff in my opinion. She also does it very fast, as if attempting to fix one mediocre release with another one, even more mediocre. But the problem is that the quantity doesn’t make the mediocre quality any better! It just confuses the hell out of the consumer, I believe.
I feel it’s legitimate to ask loudly: what is this supposed to be, some kind of a rat race? This release by Hermes was completely unnecessary, just like few others in the past couple of years. I also think that it may have a devaluing effect for the brand long term.

  14. :

    3 out of 5

The first impression was just unpleasant. Thin profile. Not interesting. Not shocking or intriguing. Harsh, bitter, green, synthetic citrus notes. “Bug spray!” I sincerely thought.
There’s also something similar to the Dior Eau Sauvage Cologne and D&G Light Blue Italian Zest flankers. Some chemically piercing quality common to all of them. Must be the thing now. And a certain simplicity. Actually, it might work with the right body chemistry, but it’s not for me. It literally smells like it’s made out of 2-3 compounds. I have respect for minimalism, but sometimes less really is less.
Also, I’ve had both Guerlain Vetiver and TF Grey Vetiver, but I don’t get any common notes with this release. So, I don’t really understand why it’s being called “vetiver” – or Terre D’Hermes. Maybe it would’ve been better to call it something else, since the original has already (and justifiably) become a classic in itself. As much as I like the original, I dislike this flanker. (To my mind, the Parfum version was comparable to the original and Eau Tres Fraiche was OK.)

….with weak performance it doesn’t leave the starting gate. I wish these companies would hire me as a consultant.

  16. :

HERMES attempts to create mass appealing fragrance. It preserves the original base, but it is overwhelmed with fresh citruses. I can not help my self, but I feel something very similar has been done with Tres Fraiche, making this redundant. Performance is very subtle and definitely worse than original. Anyhow, a pass for me. EDT Terre is still my go to HERMES.

It is a nice classic clean vetiver.
Remember me a lot Theseus by Villoresi (all the notes are included in it)
    A very mature man scent.

Love the Hermes EDP & Eau Tres Fraiche, but this one just doesn’t work for me. As much as I’ve tried, I just can’t get the citronella candle vibe out of my head. One positive note: It does actually keep mosquitoes away!

For a very long time Terre d’Hermes was one of these scents I was sniffing out for on people. After a while I dared to ask what they were wearing. Since then I was returning to it frequently especially in the fall.
I discovered vetiver with an eary love I fell in with Masculin Vetiver from Boujrois in the late 80s. Cheap and misleading formula, but a breeze of luxury at the time for me.
Both scents actually founded my area of interest in scents and sort of stigmatised it with that woody-citrus-herbal connection for life.
Therefore I was extremely disappointed (really, hence the tone) in this new proposal from Hermes. It’s just an annoying, tough bergamot-pepper punch in the nose, which is even hard to wash off when you really had enough. Flat, mediocre and common. Even Old Spice (the original) 30 years ago had more dignity and grace.
Actually I feel like all newcoming men’s fragrances turned the same metal-scented, cheap after shave alley, where probably only the ones, that skip a daily hygiene routine can feel comfortable with a power scent that deals with that negligence with a tacky, overwhelming wall-of-smell.
What a shame the Eau D’Orange Verte is so ephemeral.
Regards to all the restless noses out there. ;>

This really feels like Terre d’hermes crossbred with Sauvage to me. I get the bergamot and sechuan pepper (Sauvage) heavily, but little vetiver.

  21. :

This could’ve well be named Flanker x Un Jardin series, but they already made Citron Noir as a classic EAU so they jumped on the Terre naming to sell better. This is a nice scent if you think about the EAU versions but it doesn’t lift up to the grandeur of Terre D’Hermes. Nice smell, nothing groundbreaking I get a ton of grapefruit from this, also longevity is 4-5 hours.
    Disappointing

I love Terre d’Hermes. I love vetiver. I was so looking forward to this one. All I get is bergamot. Stinky, sticky bergamot. What I don’t get is vetiver, intense or otherwise.

  25. :

    4 out of 5

Hermès Eau Intense Vetiver is very peppery fragrance – very, very peppery – with mulled grapefruit and almost but not quite scent of cloves backed up by quite a pleasant Vetiver that smooths out what might be an otherwise overpowered pepper.
Definitely a fragrance for colder weather and certainly for the over-40s.

I am pleasantly surprised. Had no idea this was out until yesterday visit to a local mall Sephora. I got a sample and so far it’s very promising. Hermès dna is totally there, I even detected some parallels to their own Bel Ami. Further sampling is very much justified

I went to the Hermès boutique in Prague with an open mind. It wasn’t an easy task after so many negative and neutral reviews. I thought to myself that it can’t be that bad. The beautiful young lady gave me a generous spritz to the forearm and a also sample with a smile. I resisted breathing it in right away and went for a walk through the old town waiting for the fragrance to speak to me. Silence. No projection on the arms lenght. I proceeded to sniff it directly. I would have expected this to be reeking with vetiver in all its glory based on its name. I expected deep rooty earthy sweetness. And what I got was fresh green sour citrusy funky scent. It is indeed really close to the Eau de Citron Noir with some smoky hard-to-find vetiver in the background which slowly moves to the foreground as time goes but never reaching the word “intense”. It remains close the skin. It doesn’t smell expensive, nor luxourious. It’s not special. It’s just average. I don’t have anything against flankers. Dior Homme Parfum is one of my all-time favorites. But this is a disgrace and a major dissapointment. Mrs. Nagel has large shoes to fill and I’m afraid she wasn’t the right choice for the brand. Sorry.

  29. :

Very dissapointed by this new fragrance. Nothing as original Terre d’Hermes. Very mainstream scent.

  30. :

    3 out of 5

This is not Terre d’Hermes at all… it’s literally just Eau de Citron Noir with a pinch of clean vetiver thrown in. That’s all I get out of it. I would never buy Eau de Citron Noir because I already own Dior Homme Cologne, and I would never buy this new Terre flanker because this doesn’t resemble Terre at all and it smells so close to Eau de Citron Noir. Christine Nagel really needs to get her crap together.

  31. :

    3 out of 5

I love vetiver and Sycomore is my favourite fragrence so I have been looking for more examples. Christine Nagel seems to have divided opinions quite stongly since her takeover at Hermes but I love what I have of hers (and Galop too which I don’t have and, as I don’t have an oil well or run a stud farm, I can’t afford), This version of Terre d’Hermes just amazed me from the off with its hedgerow smell of cut hayfield grass that’s been left lying for a few days. As with Nagel’s Twilly and Eau des Marveilles Bleue it’s as if the well-rehearsed orchestra is ready to play and a cheeky young gamine walks on stage with a triangle and hits a single bright ringinig note which has such clarity and humour the whole pompous underpinning is momentarilly foregone and the audience giggles knowingly. It doesn’t last of course and the concert begins. In this case the ringing note peters out fairly quickly but it is so worth it that you want another hit. I’m comparing it to regular TdH which is very steadlily refined and smooth whereas the Eau Intense Vetiver is a bit grubby and louche so maybe that’s why other reviewers compare it unfavourably but as you can still buy both there is no need to worry. It also held up against Vetiver Extraordinaire by Frederic Malle when I tested a sample of that concoction and that has more real vetiver than anything else around I’m told. And Dominic Ropion composed it. Nagel’s mix may have gone from the stage long before Ropion’s orchestra but it’s a fraction of the price and, hey you can just spray some more. It’s also cheaper than crack.

Smelled this and honestly I’m disappointed that this is named Terre D’Hermes…One of the amazing aspects of Hermes as a brand is how independent their creative process is…or was…They never chased fragrance trends…
    Until Now…
Every Terre D’Hermes Flanker has been, up until now, a great effort. They were practically Niche fragrances at designer prices albeit, high end designer prices. They were conceptual but wearable with a high quality content. This version of Terre comes off to me as a dumbed down version of the original…something I never thought I’d ever say about a Hermes fragrance. Instead of an amazing authentic Orange which was pretty much the main identity of the scent, it has been switched with the dreaded, ubiquitous “CITRUS NOTE”…What the hell is that supposed to even mean??? When a brand can’t be bothered to list exactly what citruses are being used, it’s a warning sign to me that whatever they refer to as “CITRUS” is code for sweet. And the citrus in this is sweet…
    A SWEET TERRE D’HERMES???
    REALLY?
The other flankers are so much more unique than this and with a superior quality Imo…I mean “Citruses”? If you are going to remove the Orange which again was the star note in the scent why not replace it with a quality Bergamot or Fig Leaf note? Hell, what about an earthy plum scent for men using the Terre base? Terre D’Hermes with a medicinal oud note??? I just don’t get why you’d remove Orange to add “Citruses”…mind blown…lol
Other than Galop…Christine Nagel is off to a rocky start replacing the irreplaceable Jean Claude Elena…
    SIMPLY PUT SCENTS

    Bought a bottle…
This is a Terre d’Hermes Parfum with some grapefruit, orange and lemon removed and pepper with vetiver added instead.
On the other hand smells in some point as a successor of Guerlain Vetiver. Some extra sprays (regular 4 + extra 2) gave me 9 hours of longevity. Still it sits and sticks pretty close to the skin and barely projects.
Starting to appreciate it for what it is.

Just received a 10 mL decant of this fragrance. It’s okay. very citrus heavy in the opening. I do enjoy the dry down of the fragrance. I prefer the original.

  35. :

    4 out of 5

This has nothing to do with the original, in my opinion. I find it somehow similar to Tom Ford Grey Vetiver but a bit inferior in terms of smell although this has better projection and sillage. Neither eau fraiche nor this new release are my cup of tea. For me, the original is still a masterpiece.

  36. :

    3 out of 5

    Finally I’ve found my Terre
I’ve never hated original but realized once that it’s not for me.
As for me Intense Vetiver is much more natural and balanced though has quite a lot in common with his father

  37. :

    4 out of 5

This fragrance for me wasn’t love at first sniff…it had to grow on me. At first it seemed a bit plasticky, and the flinty note many love in TdH is almost absent. The vetiver is amped up…(the vetiver is a straight-forward vetiver, not smoky or spicy) and it stays around for a while.
And in comparison with the original TdH it does have much less Iso-E Super…a note I lately have been overwhelmed with.
So while I like Eau Intense Vetiver, I can see why TdH purists may think that it has strayed too far from the original. But fans of TdH should try it and give it more than 15 seconds…I have been wearing it now for 5 hours, and it is a like for me if not a love.
Side note: For those purists that want all the notes of the original TdH I’d recommend Maison Louis Marie’s No. 9 Vallée de Farney. Amazing scent.
Longevity with Eau Intense Vetiver is excellent… I was able to smell it for 10 hours after spraying… All throughout work. I believe sillage is decent and it slowly becomes a skin scent at around 4 hours.
Another side note…the comment about Mme. Nagel “ruining” the original is stupid. TdH is mass produced…it isn’t Ecce Homo in Borja. It’s like saying chocolate milk ruined regular milk. If you don’t like the alternative, buy the original.

  38. :

    3 out of 5

Sorry madame Nagel but you just ruined a truly piece of art.
    What a pity.

  39. :

    5 out of 5

I love vetiver and this does not disappoint.the bergamot /citruses in this are refreshing from the get go as the vetiver slides it way in, too mix beautifully and then steps ahead of the citrus leaving them to mingle in the background, still noticed, just subtle. The pepper is not pronounced but it is lingering way in the background, maybe my nose just hasn’t picked up on it yet, perhaps after a few more wears I’ll notice it more.
Some are saying this is common, boring, a disappointment, etc, to me it is none of those. I think if you are one who likes vetiver this would be a healthy addition to your collection, even if you have the original Terre d’Hermes. This juice proves you do not need a whole book of notes to have a beautiful fragrance. IMHO
UPDATE: 7+ hrs and silage arms length for close to 3 hrs.

  40. :

    3 out of 5

antonpan’s point of view is right.
I have tested it last night and I want to tell you it’s a disaster, a chemical bomb. If at first it feels the vetiver flavor after 1-2 hours turns into a nightmare for olfactory senses. It still smells after 10 hours the artificial smell
I have Terre d’Hermes Eau Tres Fraiche which I love, but his is a complete repulsive for me at least.

  41. :

    3 out of 5

This is not bad, I was actually going to buy Terre D’Hermes EDT, but this is much stronger and better.

  42. :

    3 out of 5

It’s a very enjoyable smell, very close to the original but it has extremely poor longevity & projection. Two sprays on the same hand had vanished by the time I left the small mall I tested it in. Overpriced, doesn’t need to be hunted down. If we’re letting our hair down, I think Hermes longevity is tanking lately. My first TDH carried forever, but refills hasvne’t. As well, this same day I re-huffed Eau Tres Fraiche and it’s lost like 70% of its longevity, so seek older batches I guess?

  43. :

    4 out of 5

Very much like classic TdH but brighter and fresher version of it. Day lasting performance, but projection fades quickly after application to lingering fresh smell. opens better if sprayed on skin. Really nice lemon-grapefruit citrus blast at the start. Overall, It lucks multidimension, just one fresh vibe, missing undertones, the same as classic one. It is still very nice fragrance

  44. :

    4 out of 5

I tried this at Nordstrom’s today.
I respect what they tried to do here, it just didn’t gain a whole lot. Basically this is TdH amped up on citrus and vetiver – Much brighter.
However this falls under the “Lemon Pledge/Bathroom Cleaner” category.
Its not a bad smell, I just cant get away from the Lemon Pledge chemical vibe.
It starts out incredibly bright and bitter grapefruit which is almost lemony. It starts to mellow into the TdH DNA, but much happier. The vetiver is there and always will be for the life of the frag.
Unfortunately not worth the price, but I like what they tried.

  45. :

    3 out of 5

Madame Nagel please stop ruining the brand. This one is ultra chemical smelling as a flanker of Eau de citron noir.
I get chemical cheap lemons (the same type as in citron noir) with a conventional though nice vetiver note.
0% of Terre d’Hermes elegance here.

  46. :

    3 out of 5

No, no, no. what a disappointment! a very strong citrus mix for the first half hour and then the classic scent of tdh but like the eau de parfum as a smell. as performance … medium. 5/10

Nothing new….. On the Middle of the road of eau très fraîche et Guerlain l’homme idéal Cologne bit on a Bad way ……. In fact this smell like bug spray

Now this a real mans – man scent. This is very masculine and simple, but wearable and modern. Its a powerful mostly vetiver scent, you will make entrance in the building with this one. Its actually different from the original, not just another repackage copy. A scent the takes you back into the days when wearing masculine scents was cool. No unisex vibe on this one at all. I think ages 25+ can pull this off, as long as your dressed at least casual. Every man needs a little of every type of scent in his collection, This is it if your looking for that one masculine scent. Its worth a try for anyone.

  49. :

    First impressions:
This is TdH with a very strong vetiver note. I think its gorgeous, absolute love at first sniff. The Terre DNA is there, but the vetiver is center stage. Will be great for the fall.
If you are a fan of vetiver and you already love Terre d’Hermes you will probably like this. If you are a fan of Terre d’Hermes but not huge into vetiver, you might not like this. Yes, Terre d’hermes already has vetiver, but its nothing compared to this.
I can already tell that this has better performance than TdH, no doubt. Its yet another fantastic edition to the Terre d’Hermes line.

  50. :

    5 out of 5

This is a nice and elegant scent, but I’m not blown away by any means. If I have to be completely honest, I’m kind of disappointed, because to my nose, this vetiver edition is not up to Terre in terms of the quality of the blend. The reason I put it low under the regular Terre is the opening – it’s like you’re smelling common lemon essential oil from your local cosmetic store. Simple, natural, JUST lemony! That is the opening from Intense Vetiver. It’s not bad, but I expect a LOT MORE from brand like Hermes. I’m sorry, but Terre is an amaizng fragrance to me and this simple and cheap lemon opening of Terre D’Hermes Eau Intense Vetiver is quite disappointing to me.
After this first lemon burst, there is a lot of pepper notes and this combination lemon-pepper is going too mature and kind of old fashioned for my taste. Later, when the vetiver becomes stronger, I like it more and more.
All in all, nice office scent, but I have Terre EDT and Erbario Toscano Cuore di Pepe Nero and they are way better to my personal taste, so Intense Vetiver is a complete pass for me.
I would go for Tom Ford Grey Vetiver Eau de Toilette instead anytime anywhere.

  51. :

    3 out of 5

    A brighter version of Terre.
Actually to me this smells like a Cartier Declaration with vetiver added. Quite prominent cardamom and some cumin as well…
And it’s less intense than Eau Tres Fraiche in terms of longevity and projection. Around 6 hours and quite poor sillage.
Planning to purchase a bottle to give it a chance. For now Eau Tres Fraiche is the best one out of three for me.

  52. :

    4 out of 5

Tried this in Nordstrom last night. I was totally jazzed to see it for sale so recently after release. Quite honestly, I don’t see the appeal: it has a smoky vetiver that overwhelms the spices and citrus notes; yet some undoubtedly will find this appealing. It smells somewhat chaotic to me, but I am still a diehard fan of the original.
    Why mess with perfection?
Please note that it only comes in EDP concentration.

  53. :

    5 out of 5

The opening of this is awesome. Think The original Terre D’ Hermes but with a very smoky vetiver accord, almost like Encre Noire meets TDH. As much as I loved the opening, the dry down loses me. Similar to CDG 2 Man, the smokiness subsides, and loses the most appealing aspect of the fragrance. Not bad, but a little disappointing.

  54. :

    3 out of 5

I tested this at Bloomingdales. It smells like Tom Ford Grey Vetiver/Guerlain Vetiver plus a sweet orange/citrus accord. Very nice.

  55. :

    3 out of 5

This Terre is safer and different from the original with tones of vetiver added. It also has some bitter orange but it feels very well balanced and.. common with hundrends other scents.
It’s all about a citrusy woody vetiver, quite masculine and versatile. All year round use.
Dominant notes are a woody and slightly vegetal vetiver with a tiny dusty vibe, black pepper, bitter orange and bergamot. I can also detect a faint aquatic vibe which feels tighten with the orange.
The longevity is above the average, about 7 hours and the sillage is moderate. Safe but common scent for every day use.

  56. :

    3 out of 5

This actually has more vetiver than the original witch i smell more Iso E Super than Vetiver. The citruses are on the front. A mix between lemon and bitter orange. Very fresh. Not a masterpiece but more suitable for summer than the original. I like the citruses more in here actually.

  57. :

Just tested it with the Hermès commercial. Nice, fresh scent. Maybe more wearable for people who don’t like the classical Terre d’Hermès. Feels a little bit more “young” and sporty.

Downvote this comment too – hopefully it gets enough exposure before it disappears so others get the message.
