Blind bought this one, but unfortunately i don’t like the smell. What a pitty (smell 5/10)

A warm, sweet smell with a tart fruitiness and cotton candy quality. Best suited for a younger crowd looking for something tropical and playful. Not bad, as its construction, performance, and quality are all decent, but not for me, personally. It has the potential to become kind of cloying and annoying. Worth sampling if you’re a fan of Azzaro Wanted and scents of a similar ilk (warm, sweet, fruity, synthetic…this one’s a little bit better than average though, and perhaps a bit more mature). 6.5 or 7/10 depending on my mood.

Sometimes for such fragrances i honestly feel sorry for them, now this one is such a master piece that what can i say, truly a hidden Gem with solid 8 plus hours longevity and 2 hours scent bubble but i know the reason why its not getting love, the reason the Cassowary Fruit , many do not know how it smells so they reject it on initial spray. The same happened with me a month ago when i tested it on my wrist and few mins later rejected it but 3 hours later while driving home i felt wibes of some ultra unique scent but couldnt figure out from where, another 4 hours later going to gym while changing i felt the same wibes and when i smelled my wrist i was stunned that it was still there despite i washed hands twice therefore next morning i bought it, guys this one is a great, solid, unique and powerful tropical summer scent with good value of money, pick it up, dont run from the initial spray wait for only 20 mins and see.. i got tons of compliments on this, in my university 2 more guys bought it in a week time after smelling on me.
Dry down is very fine and resembles Escada magnetism a lot.
    Worth the money.
And yes generally i hate joop but this one is The Splash
If You like Escada Magnetism then get it asap as its discontinued .

I was really hoping to love this scent but unfortunately it’s only a like.
This scent opens up with that very unique cassowary fruit nite and coriander making this a juicy but also spicy and unique scent. Honestly, the opening is really unique but it was a little spicy for my taste and actually my gf said the same exact thing. After about 20 minutes that spiciness fades and the scent becomes more creamy and soapy. The scent stays like that for the duration of the fragrance but gets a little wordier in the base. Everyone says this smells like Chanel allure homme sport and I can totoaly see that as I would say this is a more tropical take on that scent !
Performance on this is decent ! It lasts on me about 6-10 hours but only projects decent for 2 hours and then remains a light skin scent for the rest of the fragrance life, However, this is a scent that comes and goes if you start moving and your body heats up. Also to truly experience this scent you have to use this in the days that are over 80 degrees as the heat brings out the juicy qualities of this.
Overall rating –7 out of 10 ! Unique scent and decent performance for a summer frag but this is only a solid like for my taste and nothing that sticks out and makes it a favorite

    I must say, wow.
This is my first Joop! Aqua/Flanker.
It’s Very different from Joop! Pour Homme.
    It’s very different.
It gives you an Okay 4 to 5 hours(bring a travel atomizer), but sillage isn’t huge…a foot or two away from your body.
Unless you use more than one spray.
I use four; one on each wrist, one one my chest & one spray on my neck.
So my sillage is at arm’s length for two hours, after that it’s a little above the skin…but you can smell it, when you move….
It trails off into other people’s noses.
I like hearing “Someone smells really good” and then they go searching for the scent.
Plus my friends gave me a few hugs at a get-together.
    And love the scent.
    Is it a beast, no.
But is it worth a second buy, yes.
I would suggest you buy a bottle for yourself.
    3.8 OZ Bottle, $19.00.
    Worth it!
Age: 25 and up….I picture wearing this, more than 25+.
    Scent: 6/10
Value: 8/10 (Only cost $19.00 for a 3.8 Oz bottle)
Sillage: 6/10 (Arm’s length at best)
Longevity: 5.5/10 (Four to five hours)
    Creativity: 6/10 (It’s a great clean scent)
Versatility: Anytime & anywhere during the spring & summer.
Projection: 3/10 (one hour to 90 minutes)
Complements: 7/10 (I’ve gotten five complements today, plus a few wtf is that smell…to the point, where they’re looking for the origin of the scent…it’s you..what the hell is that…you smell nice:-) I’ll take that pick me up anytime.)
Update 04/08/2017: Just bought another two bottles of this for the spring and summer.
Smells really good and get it before the price goes up for no good reason other than it’s spring/summer season.

I bought this as a blind buy hoping it had Joop power but it doesn’t, instead its weak like everything else on the market today. I thought the cassowary fruit would make it stand out from everything else but instead it smells generic, neutral, and again like everything else on the market. The bottle and cap are amazing though. Dissapointed

Joop! Splash is an original take on the popular summer archetype – the aquatic!
Splash opens with a super sweet and spicy rush. Several reviews claim that there is a watermelon accord which I wasn’t able to detect. As bizarre as this sounds, I got the feeling of a “midnight fruit” vibe from this. I know that sounds absolutely strange… the sweet and fruitiness of this supposed “cassowary fruit” accord is very dark, chilling and “cool” feeling (without being minty). This super sweet fruitiness is coupled with the very apparent spicy note of coriander.
After 30 minutes or so, the fruitiness facet is subdued by the cedar note but its sweetness remains. The spice from the coriander is still going strong at this point, too. At this stage, this is when Splash starts to resemble Escada Moonsparkle. Escada Moonsparkle for Men was very heavy on the cedar and black pepper while engaged with strange sweetness. Joop Splash is very similar – it’s heavy on the cedar and spice (coriander and cardamom) all while maintaining a unique sweetness. The sweetness and sea note helps balance out the overall spicy sting of coriander and cardamom.
The “sea note” is barely present and mists along in the background providing the “freshness” of the fragrance. I feel like Joop only added a “sea accord” to drive home the “this is a summer fragrance!” message for the casual fragrance user.
A side note unrelated to the fragrance – the cap! The cap to this bottle is serious business. It has real weight and is real metal. It’s not the “cheap plastic” everyone seems be bothered by when it comes to caps on bottles.
All in all, Joop! Splash is a unique fruit-sweet, spicy, woody aquatic that shakes things up a bit. It would make an excellent gift for the casual fragrance user. However, I do feel like experienced noses would say this dries down to “generic body spray” territory. I enjoy and have oversprayed Splash during the dog days this summer. The projection and sillage are very decent for 4 hours.

Beautiful scent. Just picked up my second bottle. Really enjoying. Never had anything but compliments on this one.

I admit I expected it to smell different.
    Better, maybe.
But it does talk for it’s name, though: Aquatic.
Coriander has as strong presence, and then sea water, then dry leaves.
    It’s all about summer.
Use it to practice sports, go to the gym, maybe even at the job.
I would definitevely not wear this one on a date at night, for example, or a club, or anything during the evening.
Sillage and Projection are quite decent, as most of the Joops.

    JOOP! Splash……..
    You sexy Ocean beast you.
I bought this coz it was going dirt cheap and I needed a casual weekend fragrance, I purchased this without testing it so when I got home I opened the package and took out the shapely water ripple bottle and pulled on that cool metal cap and sprayed.
I was instantly hit with this Fruity Sweet almost pungent blast that made me crinkle my nose, 2 minutes in and I am prisoner to its aquatic fruity wave that I keep getting wafts of. Joop Splash has this definite fruity tartness with a soapy yet oceanic smell, which is how it stays on until the drydown which comes in full at a hour and lasts for another 5 hours. The base of this fragrance is identical to Chanel Homme Sport, which is my Weekends out Summer Signature.
Joop Splash has really surprised me to say the least, but hey its from the House Of Joop! So how could it ever possibly be wrong.
This cologne is perfect for hot sweaty days and just as perfect for Summer nights. It garners compliments left, right and center, so for a cheaply priced fragrance it is a solid steal.
The projection is great with 6 sprays the longevity is around 6 to 7 hours (which is great for an Aquatic type cologne) it is unique in its own right.
    All in all.
A Fruity, Herbal aqua blast that leaves a trail and will have people clamoring to get a whiff of you, Ladies and Guys go wild over this when I have it on.
So what are you waiting for???
Grab a bottle, maybe even 3, for this summer be ready to create a SPLASH with JOOP! Splash.
    8 out of 10.
Move over Chanel Homme Sport, I’ve found a new Summer Signature.

One of my favorite fragrances ever made! It’s awesome for the Summer and yes, I’ve tried Eau Fraiche, Aqua Di Gio, Bleu de Chanel and many many more… It’s totally fresh and every time I walk by the ladies, they want to know which perfume I have on and it even gets you compliments from guys too! If you haven’t smelled Joop! Splash yet you’re missing out on a lot it’s so magical and mysterious I just love it!
    Projection: 7/10
    Longetivity: 8/10
    Smell: 9/10

In contrast to others saying this is a sweet scent, I find this to my nose to be the masculine counterpart to Womanity. I smell a good dose of sour and salty notes. Which is refreshing. Citrus is also sour to the nose and mouth and also fresh. I am glad I bought this, it is a different smell to a lot of the spring/summer scents out there and with the added spice this is an instant love and still remains so. I tend to favour sour/bitter notes over very sweet ones. This will get good wear in the summer!

  14. :

    5 out of 5

Upon first whiff, Splash bears some resemblance to other scents primarily considered aquatic. Initial comparisons coming to mind are Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme and some of the Tommy Bahama line. However, this initial impression comes with an accompanying dose of fruitiness that does not work for me. I enjoy fruit notes in many fragrances, such as apple, orange, grapefruit and the like. Cassowary fruit will not make be making this list.
I applaud Joop!/Coty for pushing the envelope with use of this obscure ingredient. But, I also believe there is a reason why I and many don’t like it. I surmise the fruit’s scent is naturally offensive to humans, given it’s toxicity. As others have written below, the fruit is inedible to us and only the Cassowary bird, which has special stomach enzymes, can eat it.
Consider…rhubarb leaves are also toxic, but the stalk we eat is not. Interesting that rhubarb is used in almost 100 fragrances. Question: how many perfumers have used Cassowary fruit since Splash launched in 2011? Answer: none. Guess it’s not wise to fool with Mother Nature!

  15. :

    3 out of 5

Here is a fragrance very underestimated by everyone. Splash was released in 2011, in collaboration with the team of the Coty company (which retains the JOOP! cosmetics and fragrance licenses since 2008) and came to the market to prove they can also make refreshing scents.
Consists of Cassowary fruit note (also known as Cassowary plum), which looks like an egg and is greatly appreciated by the bird of the same name. Although it is poisonous, does no harm to the bird. The fruit has aroma similar to the plumeria (known as frangipani). Besides that, the output also has notes of coriander. In the heart, marine salty notes and green cardamom. At the base, labdanum, cedar and sandalwood.
Where do I start? It may seem strange, but this fragrance doesn’t have notes of watermelon. However, when touches the skin, that’s the smell we feel: watermelon and sparkling water. After about 15 minutes, the fruity smell begins to fade and the evolution shows itself stronger, with marine notes transmitting abundant freshness. Finally, a delicious cedar, embraced to the ambery creaminess of the labdanum, enclosing the evolution of this scent, which I define as aquatic-aromatic. A delight!
Every year, I see people struggling to find good fragrances for summer (especially in Brazil), going always for the blue or sport fragrances, filled with citrus notes. And so comes the Joop! House and shows that it is possible to create a refreshing scent, without appealing to nuances of lemon or bergamot.
The name is perfect for the concept and the bottle is like the sea and its mild undulations. Amazing!

I still have this down as a ‘dislike’ on here from a brief flirtation with the idea of it a couple of summers ago. The reason I came to that conclusion was Joop Splash is a syrupy, synthetic, fruity scent which annoyed me, the way it lured me in at first just to realise it had many shortcomings.
The primary one being longevity, very poor and with no depth or base notes to speak of, just a sickening and short lived, generic and ultimately cheap accord.
However I have to concure with the superb review below from teadot…There’s something I liked initially about this fragrance despite the fact that it’s a Joop and as such can almost be dismissed off hand.
On a cruder note I remember seeing a vile documentary a while back about ‘Dogging’ (for the uninitiated or americans that’s people who meet for sex in public places, car parks, truck stops etc…)
Anyway, one of the masked participants being interviewed said he swore by ‘Lynx’ (Axe) or ‘Joop’ (Homme probably?) because ‘It’s drives the ladies wild’ I’m sorry but the kind of ‘ladies’ (pfffft!) we’re talking about here are not exactly fussy judging by the state of the depravity and the quality of men involved and I can’t say I wholly trust their judgement on fragrance.
Anyway…It’s that kind of sigma which makes me even more wary of Joop but nevertheless there’s something so ugly about the brand that I kinda want to like at least one of their fragrances in a guilty pleasure sort of way and Splash comes the closest for me.
The top notes are a strange candy/fruit kind of almost tropical vibe on a generic bed of semi aquatic ‘blah’ but nearly likable. The bottle is brilliant as well to be fair giving me hope that one day Joop might actually make a half way decent fragrance.

From looking at the bottle I expected something watery and light…
On spraying there is a very sweet fruity note, slightly spicy. This calms down to a predominently cardamom and woody mix. I like cardamom, so this one is a keeper. Summer, fresh and spicy fragrance. On drying you get the saltwater and cedar coming through.

    Dear Doctor…
I’m not into sweet fragrances. But just like a “kid”, I need a fix of candy now and then. That’s what my bottle of “Rochas Man” and “Individuel” is for. But for some God forsaken reason, this Joop! “Splash”? …O God, its like the Best candy EVER ! I think I may have a serious problem.
I find myself going to the cupboard first thing in the morning, last thing at night, (even in the middle of the night !) Just to sniff the damn thing, or to spray it all over.
I can’t let go of the bottle, either. It looks like a glowing green shard from an iceberg, melting in my hand. I’m wearing out my fingers on that (highschool machineshop) knurling on it’s sNappY metal cap. Surely you’ll agree, Doctor. I’ve gone SNAP-Happy !
I know it’s aquatic in the most generic way. I know it’s fruity in the most infantile way. Not to mention if there’s wood in the base, it must have come from a discounted pile of used veneer with the glue still on the back! YET . I find it fizzy and sparkling -like a favorite yet unnamed flavour of “Fanta”! I just can’t help myself.
    Please Doctor, tell me…
    Have I lost all maturity?
    Have I lost all taste?
HAVE I LOST MY MIND ?!!!
    (sniff, sniff. SNAP!)

A strong resemblance to Acqua di gio by Armani was my first impression, but with a synthetic watermelon-esque note in place of the lime. I mean “synthetic” in the kindest possible way here. This is a fresh and revitalizing scent with moderate projection. Very sharp (with strong coriander) on the initial spray. After around half an hour this mellows to a spicy, fruity, predominantly aquatic scent on a subtle, smokey, woody base (with a hint of pepper & ….. vaseline? or burning rubber?)
Projection is quite subtle after around an hour; it’s more of a skin scent as it wears on, but when you do catch a whiff of this, it’s very clean & green. Although not listed, I can possibly even sense a bit of cucumber in there.
Seems to last around 5-6 hours at the most, which is pretty good.
Although it seems simple and perhaps not quite as impressive as other aquatic scents on the market, I do like this one. It has more of a “green” vibe (without smelling like a fresh picnic salad…) than many other aquatics available and with the added bonus of absolutely no floral. (I honestly haven’t the foggiest idea what labdanum smells like, but I find no flowers lurking here!)
Update: My best friend (whose signature scent this is) and I have noticed that this can take a “chocolate orange” turn, possibly dependent on the weather/temperature. What I previously described as “vaseline” could easily be construed as chocolate orange; especially for anybody who remembers the old chocolate orange range from The Body Shop!
This might be a simple scent, but it’s fun seeing whether or not the chocolate orange note makes an appearance because it’s so unpredictable.

Tried it on a shop based on the reviews , its similarities with Allure sports. Its very fresh and very lemony. Though a good counter part on a price . Ok for summers. Dry down is good.

After using Splash for a while now I think that this is a really excellent scent – a real grower – very under-rated. Fresh, fruity, full of character and DOES have that marine note too. It’s really gorgeous!

A great modern fragrance from Joop. To me it is a richer, less citrusy version of Chanel Allure Homme Sport – I feel the same sea synthetic note here. Nevertheless I like Joop Splash even more than Allure.

  30. :

    5 out of 5

A nice fruity and fresh scent. Longevity and sillage are both fairly good but, could be better. Great bottle. It does have, to me, an Allure note in there in the drydown. Splash is not really a marine type fragrance for me and, in my opinion, it’s mis-named, but it’s a nice scent from Joop and it’s a grower!

How exactly is it so many people know what cassowary fruit smells like? I live in Australia and had never even heard of such a thing, and cassowary is one of our native birds.
The only fruity note I get is artificial watermelon scent for the first half an hour or so, and then settles down into a nice fresh aquatic which lasts for a reasonable amount of time on skin, but lasts a really long time on clothes
A pleasant fragrance, but don’t leave the house for awhile after applying unless you want to smell like a chupa-chup

Got this today on the cheap. First 5 mins, nothing special, but then..
All there is…is watermelon, bubblegum, watermelon, bubblegum, and more watermelon! Such a clean fragrance, although very linear and a little synthetic. I’d give myself 3 sprays of this once out of a hot shower, or when i’m roaming about the house, or maybe, just maybe on a hot summer’s day, but be warned..wearing this on a hot day will definately get too cloying and sickening.
Longevity on my skin, i easily get 5-7 hours, projection is moderate, something you’d expect from a fragrance of this caliber.
A fairly good job by Joop.
Recommend this to the younger crowd, college students maybe.

A laid back, cool, breezy, subtle, watery scent which relaxes and chills the wearer,.. but may not appeal to lovers of Niche frags..
    I applied 6 heavy sprays
    0 – 2 mins- Nothing much
2 mins – 4 hours – Good 1.5 foot projection. This scent is laid back and anything that puts a smile on my face and relaxes me in this helter skelter world is worth at least half a thumbs up.. In my experience, you need to spray a minimum of 6 heavy sprays to have this scent fully appear; anything less would see it too close to the skin, anthing more would be massively cloying and sickening – I think you definitely need to get the balance of how much you apply right with this scent. Soapiness comes in after 1 hours and gets more and more intense. It is synthetic. Without doubt this is a stepped out of the hot shower scent.. Golden Showers? Or should I say Blue Showers? Sexy to some no doubt..Ages 16-32
4 hours – 5 hours – 3 inches projection, still projecting. Linear scent. Incredibly soapy now.
5 – 9 hours- Close to the skin, little to no projection, however intense smell on the skin, sexy, watery and soapy..
    Good

I had submitted my first impression back in March when I smelled Splash in a perfumery. Yesterday, I was given a sample vial and with it the chance to smell the scent with more time and leisure and no other scents interfering.
And I have to say that I do like it much more than I had first thought. I didn’t dislike it back in march, but after giving it another try, I can now better appreciate its qualities.
It starts fruity, then develops into spicy, aquatic and moderately sweet woody notes while staying very mildly fresh. Maybe it isn’t the most sophisticated scent ever created (whatever that might be), but it’s a quite delicious casual scent for the younger guys nonetheless.
I can’t yet comment on longevity, but one hour after application, I don’t expect it to excel there – which would be in line with what others said.

  42. :

    3 out of 5

This is easy to describe. It starts with the very peppery and green fresh smell that is almost identical to CK Free. When it develops, it smells like a whopping of the rose/tobacco/patchouli augmented Tommy Hilfiger Loud, just like it! If you’ve tried these two fragrances you won’t see much difference.

  43. :

Cassowary fruit ? Yeah Wolfgang, whatever.
Smells cheap. Generic citric note, after an hour it was gone on my skin.
Several Axe products smell more sophisticated.

  44. :

    5 out of 5

I’m a bit surprised by all the negative reviews to be honest, they’re a bit too harsh in my opinion. It’s not like I would quickly recommend it, but Splash is also not a scent I would advise against.
Splash is definitely not your typical fresh/aquatic scent. There’s no lemon, bergamot, lime, vetiver or for instance ginger.
Instead there’s a combination of pretty sweet fruity topnotes (is it the cassowary?), smelling a bit like a mixture of watermelon, a tiny pinch of lime and a little sugar syrup (I must admit most fragrances show their sweet side on me though 😉 ). I even detect kind of a very light English tea extract too, probably the coriander.
Then soon the cedar and cardamon join in, turning the scent spicier and woodier, while remaining it’s sweetness. Although the aroma’s itself are pretty strong and dominant, projection is pretty mild and close to the skin.
I must also admit longevity is pretty poor (4-5 hours), which is not what I’m used to from Joop.
Altogether Splash is a pleasant scent, that lacks real personality and staying power. Definitely not Joop’s best, but still a safe choice for a Father’s day gift for instance, especially with that original, good looking bottle. I don’t think I’ll be replacing my 115 ml with a next on though…

Just sprayed the tester on me today (a freebie from a previous fragrance purchase) and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Not one that I would rush out to buy straight away, but one which were I to be traveling to a very hot country (not my own rainy UK) I could quite happily use as a summer anytime EDT. Not amazing, longevity is somewhat limited, but pleasant and ‘clean’ smelling in a pleasant kinda way. Not as bad as some of the reviews previously made out, in my humble opinion, but not a trail blazer either.

Ever sit back and wonder why there has never been any “water” offerings from joop!? I’ll tell you exactly why. They’ve taken the time to do it CORRECTLY. This fragrance doesn’t try to emulate the smell of a “splash”, who would?
This fragrance embodies excitement and surprise! I wonder if any of you have even smelled it.
This scent starts off with a rude SMASH of fruit and labdanum. Sticky sweet, slick and juicy. The fruit almost has a…Purple vibe to it, so passionate and precise.
As it begins to dry you may start to wonder where the wood is.
The answer is, the wood begins to perfectly mingle with that ultra sharp pungent fruit, mellowing it, and offering some sort of control.
The woods really keep this fragrance from bitch slapping everyone who comes within 10 feet of you XD.
The cardamom and coriander offer a direct anchor to the shore of sanity, giving the composition nuttiness and spice.
I don’t get any “Calone” or “Aqua” from this fragrance in the least. I am SURE of Joop!’s direction with this was to be exciting and refreshing, like a splash 😉
Again, i’m VERY skeptical if any of you have smelled it…But to each his own.
    I approve %100

“Splash” is a splash of dullness. It starts really fruity but soon… VERY SOON… fades to another wood aquatic base seen and smelled many times before. There’s absolutely nothing remarkable about it. Weak sillage and staying power.
It should be noted that the bottle is very interesting, but I suppose people don’t collect bottles but perfumes here. It’s a shame to see a brand with strange and lovely perfumes like “Homme” and “What About Adam” releasing such a boring and uninspired fragrance.

I have only sprayed it on my hand once and left it there till it was practically gone. What I got was something like watermelon. Not really fresh or clean, more fruity and pretty sweet. I’m no expert, but I’m not sure if I would describe it as woody. Didn’t last very long. It probably appeals most to the younger crowd. A nice touch is the bottle that really looks like water.

Someone should really think seriously to stop that madness about splashes, sports, marines, aquas, oceanic, ozones and so on… Please, there is no reason afterall, “torturing” an already malfunctioning genre, there isn’t anything new to be said anymore…

Please God don’t let them make those summer flankers with two guys “fighting” on the bottle front…

Dozza may be right, but this shouldn’t concern us. This one could’ve marked a return to form for Joop!, but there’s nothing remarkable about it, apart from the fact that it’s very loud. In fact it screams: “I’m here, smell me, I’m fresh and new!”
And fresh and new it may be, but alas, in no way charming.

Apparently there will be brother colognes to this one out soon, called splosh and spish! Then there will be a limited edition set for Christmas of splish, splash and splosh.
I have tried this though and it was a puchy explosion to begin and mellowed to a really nice day smell, better than Go and Thrill, not sure about the silage though!
watch out for those limited editions!

Perhaps Mr. Joop shouldn’t have sold his label. After those recent letdowns, expectations are low now. This shouldn’t have happened to this label that once stood for modern, German style in the best sense.
Always remember: never sell your name.
