Description

Silver Mountain Water by Creed is an Aromatic fragrance for men. Inspired by Olivier Creed‘s fondness for skiing, Silver Mountain Water was designed to evoke the sparkling high-mountain streams of water in the Swiss Alps.

The white bottle capped with a silver cap resembles a snow-topped mountain with a glistening silver stream.

The fragrance opens with bergamot and mandarin, followed by a heart featuring green tea and black currant. The base is composed of Galbanum, musk, sandalwood and petit grain. Silver Mountain Water was launched in 1995. The nose behind this fragrance is Olivier Creed Sixth Generation.

    FRESHNESS: Silver Mountain Water.
Yes, this creed has all the potentials of what can be a high mountain spring or an oasis in the desert. Green tea is the protagonist, I do not feel the currant but the petitgrain. Green, fresh. If you hate citrus fruits, it’s perfect for the hot seasons.
    Point to disadvantage: Persistence.
p.s.The tea leaf is identical to the one present in Ungaro’s Apparition Homme.

This is probably my favourite creed that I’ve worn. The performance is not great, let’s get that straight out of the way. I usually find scents last well on my skin and I’m more into close, skin scents than beast mode, WMDs anyway, but it’s weak after 2 hours even for me.
Now we’ve dealt with that, the scent itself is glorious. The opening is absolutely fantastic, the lime and watery mettalic smell, which I would guess is the blackcurrant mixing with something else, is beautiful and fragile. Very glass-like. As it settles it moves more into a soft, slightly mettalic, icy, floral scent, it isn’t going to challenge in my opinion but it just smells good. I feel like some might find it boring in the dry down, but I see it more like doing a fundemental with an absolute class and precision. Beautiful.
100% unisex imo. Love it in the spring and summer but I enjoy it on a fresh winters day too. Occasion, I think it’s more of a daytime scent but dressed up or down works. Maybe a little dapper and clean for a grungy look, but it works well with more smart-casual or smart dress.

Just ok. Nothing special. Way too expensive for what it is. 6/10

This has been reformulted into water. Seriously, barely able to smell it after 15 mins up close and not getting any whiffs of it at all. Unless you can find a vintage bottle, go with Xerjoff Mefisto instead. The opening of SMW is pretty unbeatable, but what’s the point if it vanishes almost immediately.

The fragrance is good, but the price is too high for its average performance. Creed should work on it..

I think I have the new formulation because my bottle is just disappointing. (Or mine might just be a dupe.)
Scent starts off with a metallic citrus and the dry-down is unappealing. Weak performance and weak sillage.
Hoping to try another bottle to prove myself wrong.

This is my signature scent. At first there are a lot of citruses and greenness; my girlfriend´s 13yo cousine didn´t like it, she said it “smells like nature”. I guees she doesn´t like going out a lot, because the smelll is amazing, is versatile and has a nice not freshness, more like a cold vibe. the middle of the fragrance is my favorite, a lot of white musk give the fragrance some depth, but is still really cold-like. The ink note is the tea, more present in the middle, but you wont say ‘oh , smells like tea’ unless someone remind you of it.
Longevity could be better at this price, around 7 hours.
Some girls like it a lot, but is not a compliment monster.
Projection is good. Very versatile, i like it in cold nights because the musk is more noticeable, but every time i want to smell clean an sophisticated this is my dumb reach.

an Incredible scent. (Smells exactly like Bond no 9 Hamptons, which I prefer) the green tea note in SMW adds an additional almost creaminess that the Hamptons lacks. To me Hamptons is more pure and incredible for the summer time.

A sincere advice for creed lovers,
Collect the old 120 ml bottles with the thin sprayers of your favorite creed before it vanishes forever. Creed new formulations in the new packaging is no longer the same, no ambergris, no depth, no longevity and they are doubled in price.

This seems to be a polarizing fragrance to many, but most people like this fragrance around me.
For me I do not get ink, but do get a metallic, steel like smell that helps this fragrance smell masculine and even edgy.
The white florals, aquatic like notes, and some white tonka like note help this fragrance smell bright and youthful.
I find this a provocative scent that is best suited for Business meeting, important events, or when someone wants to make a presence.
I find that the duplicates, no matter how much more affordable they are, they still do not smell as good as the original.
4 to 7 hours with good to fair projection on me.
If you wanted a more masculine Amouage reflection man, this is probably your ticket.

  15. :

Not a huge fan of this one. Starts with a very sharp pine scent before drying down to an uninteresting musk base (much like Millesime Imperiale, but less sweet).
It’s not a bad fragrance by any means, just not special enough to warrant the price tag. I’d take many designer fresh scents over this one.

Creed’s strength comes from shared memories offered by their fragrances: SMW smells fresh and crisp, of clean snow and cold air – really quite an olfactory feat.
Silver Mountain Water – depending how much one applies for either low-to-medium sillage – doesn’t announce your arrival but rewards those you allow to get close. This is a very high quality but easy to wear and safe fragrance – it won’t offend coworkers or first dates.
Longevity is quite good for a ‘light and fresh’ scent: it will last you most of the day or evening after first application.

Opening blast with citruses. Love the dry thou. I am not an expert of notes but I love the green woody dry down. Awsome to me as I am lover of chyrpe and citrus fragrances.

SMW is obviously a unique well-composed scent that’s true to its name; but for some reason I could never fully connect with it (I still haven’t gone through my one ounce bottle which I’ve had for a couple of years now). My issue with it is it seems to lack depth. Yeah it smells mineralish and mountainish and all that, and yes you do sort of feel like you’re standing by a rock lined stream when you’re wearing it, but… that’s it. I dunno; I keep wanting it to be something more. It’s like a sturdy foundation without a structure to give it meaning.
Look: it’s a pricey scent (for some odd reason) and you definitely want to try a sample before you commit.

SMW has a yucky pericing opening but the drydown is magical. Too bad I don’t want to wait an hour or so to get to that point to really enjoy it. I’ve smelt a few clones of this and it’s made this fragrance total junk for me now. This is worth $50 dollers at best. A nice pretty scent but has no identity. Mr nice guy that you’d forget about in less than 60 seconds.

  21. :

Fresh summery aromatic citrus. The green heart is well balanced and supports the summery feel in a beautiful way. My impression is that galbanum has an important role to play here.
Silver mountain water has a lot in common with old British masculine colognes, just like its best-selling cousin CK One. I guess it’s no coincidence that this fragrance enters the market the year after CK One.
Even if SMW suits my nose better than both the Calvin Kline cousin and many of the old British originals, I still think I would choose one of the more than a hundred year old designs from Floris or Penhaligon. To me the feel of wearing a fragrance that has been enjoyed by various people for over a century overtrumps getting the slightly more modern touch of SMW.

Amazing scent with a very appropriate name. You get the pleasant metallic and the essence of mountain air. Definitely a unisex scent, and one of Creed’s finest fragrances. More affordable than Aventus if you know how to shop, but still quite expensive.

This and Aventus are the most popular Creed scents for a reason.
Just look at how many clones there are of Silver Mountain Water (SMW) and Aventus.
To me, SMW is Creed’s take on a fresh scent and it’s a unique take. The name of the fragrance truly does match what the scent evokes during its life on your skin.
    1. You get the “silver” from that sort of “metallic ink” smell which is noticeable when you sniff the scent up close on skin.
    2. You get the “mountain” from the cool, breezy, fresh linen smell that comes through in the mid and drydown
    3. You get the “water” from the slightly aquatic nature the scent gives off at times which mimics a white wine or champagne smell with some creaminess.
Of the notes listed on this site, Green Tea is not prominent to my nose – to me, a noticeable Green Tea note is what you’d smell in Banana Republic’s Vintage Green – it’s more light, transparent tea accord in SMW.
This a freshie with the eccentricity and subdued projection to make it signature-scent worthy!

This opens as a glacial peak covered with currants. On me, it then melts into a delicious white tea scent, yet the ice vibe lasts morning noon and night. A wonderfully unique men’s fragrance for spring and summer office wear.

  31. :

    4 out of 5

Justly named, because of the metalic note.
Too me this is beautiful and pleasant and the metalic note gives the fragrance a edge of masculinity and is fairly unique.
I get 4 to 6 hours with one hours or so moderate projection. Spraying my clothes helps this last a bit longer for me.
I love this and look forward to buying the bottle. I have heard Al Wissam day is great and I might but that one first.
I don’t get the ink note.
Overall this is a business formal or business casual fragrance and is on the classy side of things. I cannot see this as a casual fragrance.
This and Aventus are my Favorite creeds and this is a masterpiece for me.

  32. :

    5 out of 5

I definitely get that inky vibe at the very opening. But it lasts like 30sec one minute. Then it becomes slightly sweet, creamy/milky yet fresh scent untill the end. Longevity is surprisingly good 8+ hours. Projection 1 hour and half. Aventus is lasting on me max 5 hours. Both 2016 batches
i actually prefer this to git and aventus. this will be my first niche purchase

  33. :

Bergamot, green tea and black currant over that familiar Creed base. Marvelous!
Serving as a clue to the cold purity yet to come, Silver Mountain Water opens in a sharp crisp cloud of metallic-tinged bergamot, mandarin and what must surely be floral notes though they are not listed. The opening, eventually settling, yields to gritty green tea, plump black currants and dry sandalwood backboned by the opening’s still bright citrus and a marine-ambergris note. The overall effect of the middle is one of an inkjet printer, or the recently printed product of one. Intriguing, really.
A few hours in and the inkjet printer accord surrenders to an oh so soft and luxurious musk. Here, where musk atop sandalwood might have warmed up the composition, petitgrain’s inclusion in the dry down keeps things frosty.
Purposefully cold, there’s a powerfulness to Silver Mountain Water almost at odds with its clean, fresh character.
Unisex, though somewhat masculine leaning, this wears wonderfully in spring and summer. Longevity is moderate-long at 8 hours with moderate sillage.
    8/10

If you hate the “ink” note and want better performance and pay less.
    Get Al Wisam Day Rasasi.
It’s a 90% similar clone, freaking amazing. I’m so happy I bought Al Wisam.

I know I might be in the minority, but I’ve tried Silver Mountain Water multiple times and I get the same experience each time. I don’t use this term often, but I find it offensive. It opens up with a very sharp synthetic, metallic smell. I don’t get any organic smell from it other than maybe a faint and bitter smell of orange in the background, so I don’t really get the berry note. Then midway into dry-down it shifts from a metallic smell to a lingering musk. For me, it evokes terrible memories of Jovan Musk women. Thankfully, Jovan Musk hasn’t made an appearance in my home, in years, and it looks like that same goes for SMW.

UPDATE: After testing SMW on my skin in hot/humid weather. I decided to buy a 120ML, which I bought from a brick and mortar retailer for $250USD — the price was too good to pass up. 🙂
I can tell you that SMW really blossoms in hot and humid temperatures! SMW smells unique, clean, gorgeous, and is very aromatic. Those that are fortunate enough to smell you will know that you’re wearing an expensive cologne. Definitely give SMW a chance if you can — especially in warm/hot weather! Since longevity is quite poor, you’ll need to spray your clothes or carry a decant. If you want to keep the cologne charged for an entire day. :-/
    —————————————–
SMW is simply boring, albeit it’s a “pleasant” smelling fragrance. Most men will probably find SMW to be a bit to feminine to wear.
However, if a man decides to wear SMW, it’s suitable for causal, and work settings, and best used in 85+ degree temperatures, so that the cologne will be able to project and perform at its peak level. I personally don’t get inky and/or metallic notes that many people smell from SMW.
I don’t understand how SMW is compared to Azzaro Chrome — which I think smells completely different, and much better than SMW.
    Performance: 4.5/10
    Longevity: 4.5/10
    Scent: 7/10
    Overall: 7/10

Musky – leafy – fruity citrus
    Color impression: ice blue
I scarcely fall in love with tea fragrances because they suspend in a neverhood where gender becomes annoyingly meaningless. I do not look for sexual definitions in perfume but SMW’s deliberate asexuality overexposes with a metallic neutr green leafy vibe plus an anonymous floral fruity woody patch that gives me the same feeling with soulless gray chrome kitchen equipment and modern cubic concrete architecture. Yet, very handy and straightforward, it depicts innocent masculinity in white dress and two white wings! Fresh powdery, green, airy, muted and aptly named.

i dont wear this so often anymore cuz im saving it since creed price has gone up ridiculously, but today because its a bit cold out, im getting more of the musk and sandalwood drydown, which is gor-geous! this is the epitomy of creed’s fresh fragrances and often being overlooked.
like ive said so many times i sound like a broken record, one of the best smelling fragrance ive ever put my nose on.

One word to describe this fragrance is – dilecate. In a half way fresh, yet delicate fragrance. Feminine? No fuckin way. I would say, delicate and kind of heavy frag. I am not a fan of the opening, but the dry down is damn Creedy=classy

  40. :

    3 out of 5

This is an interesting one for me.
Don’t get me wrong, the scent is amazing. Im almost confused as if I, or my wife should wear this.
It’s a very airy, bright, citrus scent. Great for warm or hot days.
I get mostly tea, bergamot and orange and MAYBE the slightest hint of sandalwood.
Im seriously torn on the whole masculine/feminine thing. Of course guys can wear this, however, I prefer more spicy and woody fragrances….but I do love this smell.
For the record, I did ask my wife what she thought, and her immediate response was, “Isn’t this a bit girlie for a guy?” Now, she is used to my Aventus, Viking, Sauvage, etc, so she isn’t used to stuff like this. But that is where I stand……..I still don’t know.
    Overall:
    – Scent – 8/10
    – Longevity – 8/10
    – Sillage – 6/10
I wish this had more sandalwood in the base! Damn……
    _____________________________________________________________
    Edit:
I bought a 2.5oz bottle for $135 (14M01). The more I wear it, the more masculine it pulls, however, it is still considered unisex in my opinion.
This stuff lasts a LONG time for a “summer” scent. 6-8 hours.

This is Olivier Creed’s personal signature scent. I love the alpine concept. Along with the zen-like, evocative name and the immaculate, white bottle, the scent conjures up images of glistening mountain streams and crisp-clean air. The name itself is a haiku—minimalist, imagistic poetry in three concise words. The main accords are green, aquatic, and mineral.
    Scent: 10/10
    Originality: 10/10
    Sillage: arm’s length
    Longevity: 6 hours
    Variation: summer (tea), winter (blackcurrant)

Before writing this review, I used the ‘find’ function on my browser to search for ‘shriek.’ When I got to ‘shrie’ my browser found one review by DMA that uses the word ‘shrill.’
Close enough. If you read DMA’s experience, it’s very close to mine. I had ordered a 7ml sample, I believe from fragrance.net and it came in the official Creed sample bottle + card and everything.
I had smelled Silver Mountain Water in a store and remembered liking it and thinking it reminded me of green tea (this was before I had read the notes.) I remember liking it since I put it on my wish list.
But this sample was one big berry shriek. I still smell that beautiful silvery green tea with a touch of mandarin sweetness, and this fresh misty air you smell when you’re near a small, calm waterfall with the tiny droplets of water barely touching you. It feels luxurious and expensive and takes you to a relaxed zen-like place. And then there’s this big fat hairy drunk guy in a red berry costume just dancing his butt off to some loud music in the foreground, ruining everything. If there is any fruitchouli that’s been made in the last 10 years aimed at millenial young women that has a red berry note, be it raspberry, cassis, or whatever, and that note felt so artificial and annoying to you, this is that same note to me.
I have no idea what happened. In the store there was a sweet citrusy note along with the misty green tea, but this is like one of those extreme flankers “Silver Mountain Water Extreme” where they amped up the currant note by 500%
Is this the ‘batch number’ bullshit all over again? I lucked out with a gorgeous Aventus batch but I can’t keep playing this game.
So be warned, those who have only smelled official Creed samples, what you’re smelling might be a bad batch, try to smell it in person in a store before you completely write it off, because what I smelled in the store, with the berry turned down low enough to make it feel truly unisex, is what this scent is supposed to be.

OK, NO WAY does this smell like Al Rehab Silver! People who say this are wrong and or malicious .
Silver Mountain Water is it’s own creation. It’s FLEETING. But it’s shimmering and nuanced and nothing else smells like it.
After 3 minutes…..it’s a skin scent. A very very calming skin scent.
I think CREED needs to step it up in terms of LONGEVITY.

Another original creation from Creed house. Nothing is even close to its vibe (forget the clones) except that It has similarities with Millesime Imperial but I cannot detect where or at which stage.

A very unique fragrance! I finally have a sample to test, and it’s very fresh. SMW takes me to the snowy alps. It smells very fresh, clean, and I get like a cold smelling vibe (icy. If that makes sense). SMW is great for when you want to stand out. Bottle worthy? Not for me unfortunately. I love spicy and woody scents, and SMW does not fall into either category. The unique thing about this scent, is their use of black tea. Very nice note that not many other fragrances have

This is a very soft, light, and airy fragrance. I don’t like it. It almost is like a breath of fresh air which is great but is bad because its gone just like a breath of fresh air. It may be better suited for a female day time wear in the office then layering with something. It is just too light and doesn’t last to spend money on this one. It is very nice testing it, but for me its a pass.

  59. :

    4 out of 5

Exceptional unisex scent that leans feminine/floral but not so much that men can’t enjoy it. I usually don’t like florals and I have to say, SMW is really the only one of that type that I do like. There’s something about it!
Some complains below about “inky” and “metallic” notes. My nose doesn’t get that.I get a very pleasing, complex mix of notes that is best suited to spring and summer. It is light and airy and not a winter fragrance.
Longevity is light and silage is minimal. You have to really spray it on to get some projection. This is SMW’s Achilles Heel. I have an aftershave clone which is how I first discovered SMW. The clone gives me 3 solid hours of powerful projection that everyone around me notices. It cost me $12 LOL I wish SMW itself had that kind of power. In an hour, most of the scent is gone. In 3 hours it ceases even to be a skin scent, unless you really go crazy on the sprayer.
7.5 overall. 10.0 for the scent, 5 for the longevity/projection. Aside from that gripe, males may want to sample first, as it is a bit on the floral/feminine side and may not be everyone’s cup of tea.

  60. :

I have a previous review on here where I bought a 2016 bottle and it was horrendous.. a very subtle scent, and lasted half an hour on my skin before disappearing. People kept telling me that it wasn’t the case and their older ones performed really well. I then tried multiple testers in stores and it was the same!
I managed to find a 2009 bottle with 80ml left on eBay… It’s like a completely different scent! The notes are emphasised.. the performance is fantastic.. and this is 8 year old juice! Really makes you question what’s happened to the Creeds in recent years, as this seems to be a theme with a number of their fragrances; MI, Aventus, GIT etc.
I’m not buying the story about natural ingredients becoming scarcer or more expensive etc. If you can’t maintain the quality/performance of your product, then you shouldn’t retain the high price. I don’t think people would mind the introduction of more synthetics if they could replicate the previous performance and scent.
I’m just scared to use this now, as i know once this has run out I won’t be able to get anymore!

Instantly recognizable as a Creed scent, as it bears the signature ambergris base (only listed as musk in the note pyramid?) also found in i.e. Millesime Imperial and Green Irish Tweed.
Slightly sweet fruits, tea and ozonic aquatic musk with a hint of creamy ink, perfectly unisex. It is extremely linear and with exception of the black currant in the opening, it stays almost exactly the same from beginning to end. Fits very nicely for spring and summertime. Funny thing is, I actually find it to be have quite a few similarities with Millesime Imperial – maybe it’s just me? I also used to own Al-Rehab’s Silver and must admit that the dupe is pretty close to SMW, but smells cheaper as it lacks the ambergris base, which is replaced by a sharper metallic vibe.
Projection isn’t very impressive, but the longevity is a moderate 3-4 hours as with many other scents.

I dont think I was ever complemented on a perfume as much as this one
Its performance is alluring, seductive, sporty …
    Another 10/10 for Creed !

As with most Creed, you’ll find two camps for this fragrance – the ones that hate it (“sweaty balls”, “aspirin”, “hairspray”), or the ones that love it. I find myself in the latter camp.
Though not as great as the other Creed’s I own (GIT, VIW), SMW does have something remarkable to it that keeps me hooked. Given that I live in a tropical country, it doesn’t evoke scenes of snow-capped mountains for me. However, it’s a lovely, fresh, familiar fragrance – the olfactory equivalent of your favourite white t-shirt that has just been laundered.
The open is a crisp green tea and blackcurrant combination, which sustains through the drydown. There’s a hint of citrus and musk in there, but very restrained, and the base is a lovely sandalwood. I think that’s why this shines, it’s a very balanced fragrance.
The only downside to this is longevity, I get just about 4 hours on my skin, with moderate sillage. Still, it’s worth every penny for those 4 hours.
Edit: the negative reviews could be because of the dominant black currant note, which smells ammoniac to some (“bourgeons de cassis”). Probably not a safe blind buy.

Now for only $395 you too can smell like the essence of hairspray. I hadn’t realized that Aqua Net was such a popular accord.

Don’t understand the hype, this is very skanky, sour, smells like you rub your hand against your balls after a 2 hour workout, mixed with white flowers. Any fresheness goes away quickly. Creed memers gonna meme

I have to say I’m really disappointed in this one. Thankfully it was given to me by someone who did not want it for if I had paid the going price I would feel cheated. The smell itself is nice. Too bad it doesn’t last long or project real well. If you want a great SMW clone, then I would suggest Rassasi Al Wisam Day. It is about 90 or 95% SMW but with much better performance. And whatever the other 5% is in AWD I consider it an improvement over SMW. I can only describe it as a slight effervescent “fizziness”, something that has attracted me to many of the other scents I own. I also own Creed IM which has better performance than SMW but not by much. I also have tested samples of Aventus and came away disappointed by the lackluster performance. Nice smell but again longevity was lacking. My Insurrection Pure performs at least as well or better.
Maybe someday I’ll discover a Creed that is actually worth it’s price but I admit I have my doubts.

@ Littleengine..thats actually the best description Ive read of SMW….very accurate…it has a dry stone, minerally, chapped, asperin smell, mixed with herbal shampoo. I do get some coolness from the fragrance, but for me SMW is just good…its not awesome or excellent to me.

I’m wearing this right now and trying to see how bergamot and citrus and berries and musk translate to “mountaintop.” It’s just not connecting for me at all. I don’t get Alpine, I get summer, a kind of cloying summer, and an orangey vibe that reminds me of baby aspirin or vitamins, Is the power of suggestion in a name that strong? Or am I just hopelessly literal? I’ll look elsewhere for that snow, mountain, water experience I crave.

I also have Erolfa and Millesime Imperial. SMW is inferior to both. To me there are significant similarities between SMW and YSL L’homme. SMW to me, is the more durable and more projecting version of YSL L’homme and thats not enough of a reason to justify the price tag. I also don’t like that creamy metalic vibe of this scent.

I have Creed Imperial Millesime and Erolfa. SMW is right in between those two.
It is a little more aquatic than MI, and not as dated as the aquatic Erolfa.
When I run out of Imperial Millesime I may get this, but they are to close to have both.

This tells a story of peace and tranquility; it is a reminder to ‘smell the roses’ and never to forget the beauty in nature that exists all around us. This reminds me of the remote parts of the Snowy Mountains here in Australia, near to where I live. The name is apt, but it is more than just being in the mountains – it is about being one with nature.
The longevity is great and I honestly don’t mind that it doesn’t project that much because it is not a loud statement; it is a fragrance for you and those intimate with you to enjoy. It is so versatile and no fragrance has ever put me in such a good mood so consistently. It works all year round except for when it is really cold and garners many compliments (more likely to hear that you smell nice rather than smell amazing or sexy). It is beautiful and I know some people don’t like the hype surrounding Creed but I am amazed at how many wonderful fragrances that can come from one house. I won’t go into which is their best offering but will say that this is worth the high price and I hope it brings as much enjoyment to others as it does to me because this is a perfect scent. 11/10.
