Description

Launched in 2014 with the Dolce fragrance, the eponymous collection from Dolce&Gabbana expanded in 2015 with Dolce Floral Drops, and is welcoming the new flanker Dolce Rosa Excelsa in early 2016. As with the previous editions, Dolce Rosa Excelsa evokes Sicily and the Italian woman, the main sources of inspiration of the designer duo.

The composition begins with exotic fruity papaya blossom and fresh neroli leaves. The signature ingredient of the collection, white amaryllis, is located in the heart of the composition, together with white water lily and white daffodil. The heart further on seduces with two types of roses: the first time ever used African Dog rose and Turkish rose absolute. The musky, woody and slightly piquant base includes accords of sandalwood, musk and cashmere.

Canadian model Kate King continues to be the face of the perfume line. The bottle of heavy, frosted glass is painted in soft pink and decorated with a red cap in the shape of a flower. The fragrance is available as 30, 50 and 75 ml Eau de Toilette.

Maybe I like this one from the line more. Nice and rosy.

Lovely and rosey I like most of the D&G range this one is very nice for day wear I also have Light Blue, Rose the one and Dolce garden all of which I love this one is a welcome addition to my D&G perfumes we are currently coming into our Spring in NZ so this fragrance is perfect for now light and not too overpowering. I love roses I also own Stella and Paul Smith Rose which I love as well. so this perfume get’s a thumbs up from me.

pretty scent, but doesn’t really stand out to me. Not as much rose that I would have hoped given the name. It also dries down to almost nothing. Wouldn’t buy a big bottle of this, but maybe a roller ball or something for days when you need to wear a low key fragrance.

  4. :

    3 out of 5

Not too sweet for me, so I was surprised that it smells pretty good on me. I might get a rollerball, but probably not a whole bottle.

Had a sample, so my review is a short impression. It didnt impress me. Bland on my skin, some lily note at the beginning nice light. Then it went “down”. Dried out. 1 h later i felt like there is no scent on me at all.

Love this perfume. This is the first perfume I have bought twice because I loved it so much. Very light and floral. The top papaya dries down almost immediately on me and the rest smells of roses and very lightly. I love it. Only downside is that there is barely any longevity. With higher end fragrance I expect at least a few hours of wear…this wears off after an hour on me.

  7. :

Beautiful musky light rose scent. The dry down is stunning, and the dominant musk lingers for hours. I don’t understand the overwhelming rose comments, within the forum, as the musk creates a more woodsy overtone which pairs nicely with the already-subdued rose. Love it. Been my signature frag for a while now.

  8. :

    4 out of 5

Generically fresh and pleasant with a rose vibe in top notes.
Poor longevity but a very nice scent

Stylish and romantic. Luminous but also has depth. This replaces my first review because I said it smelled like fruit punch and candied roses and left it at that. But I’ve had it for months now and while it does smell of that to me lol it’s more beautiful and elegant than that sounds

  10. :

similar but stronger than Dolce Green… unfortunately rose is not noticeable
    moderate silage

  11. :

    5 out of 5

Soapy, musky, sneeze-inducing floral. I do not get any rose in this sweetened generic bouquet. It begins sharply but the fresh greenery dies down and gives over to the musk It is an easily worn office ready scent. Low silage low interest

  12. :

I really like it. I mostly smell fruity and white flowers with a hint of rose and musk. It’s not my favorite, but it’s a lovely scent. Light, not overpowering, feminine and flirty.

  13. :

Can you still bey this parfume? The sent is so sweet and nice I really mis smelling it!

  14. :

    3 out of 5

While I don’t use this perfume as much as I thought I would I still can’t hate it, it’s not a perfume I would personally use everyday but something to use on days where I’m feeling romantic, maybe even a bit flirty but not sexy, it’s just like a rose: beautiful on the outside but protected by thorns.
The scent is elegant and sweet, the rose calmly fades away with the drydown and ends up smelling similar to the other dolce with the white top, fresh and sweet.
Generally inoffensive scent but with just that hint of femininity that makes it special, I wouldn’t recommend this if you want something powerful and bossy that will make you stand out immediately, this is a gentle scent.
The bottle is absolutely adorable, the rose top and the simple black bow make this a beautiful addition to your collection, even if like me you don’t use it often, you just can’t shun it away.
Would I buy it again? No, but that’s because I use this so rarely that I think it will last me quite a bit, but even when it finishes I’m not sure how quickly I might be re-purchasing this, it’s a nice scent yes but personally just a bit boring.

  15. :

    3 out of 5

I’m baffled. Smells like white bar soap & menthol in the bottle. The same when sprayed on, the drydown is light unoffensive flowers.
Nothing really great about this or terrible.

  16. :

I could see this being a safe office scent as it’s not a Sillage monster and it’s really soft.
Very pretty combo of mostly rose and some other flowers- like walking in a flower garden. I noticed that I need to spray it in “warm” areas like in my elbow bend to get the full bouquet of it – it needs heat to change and really release all the fragrances in it. Smells like nothing straight out of the bottle but as it heats up on skin it “blooms.”

  17. :

I like this flanker than the first dolce theres more sweet flower but its still a little bit generic.

So here is the first post for me as I am not good at describing these perfumes like most members but I do enjoy reading what to expect from a perfume here when I am looking to buy. I recently moved and lost an entire box somehow (or it was taken) that had my perfume inside so I found myself with no perfume at all. I went online and researched a discounted vendor to buy some things I have always wanted to try or own and decided to try this one. I bought from LaBelle Perfume Distributors in FL based on reviews and purchased this along with 4 others. Either both of my boxes were exposed to heat during shipping, or I was sold all bad perfume. If I am mistaken on this particular scent and it was not exposed to heat, then it smells like diaper wipes. At first I was thinking to write it smells like an old granny lotion smell but then I was thinking, no, I know this smell and it is the smell of a baby that just got cleaned. I am hoping it was just my bottle.

Beautiful! I’m not a huge fan of rose fragrances. This is just the right amount of roses. Very calming and gentle rose blended with notes of musk. This is the perfect rose fragrance for people who’s favorite fragrance isn’t rose.

  20. :

    5 out of 5

I really love the scent, very nice and wearable for everyday use.
But I get no sillage or longevity on my skin.
Edit: eventually I got tired of it. I find it sharp on me. But I still find it fresh and versatile.

Shhhhh, my new “Secret”. A lovely bouquet of mixed flowers with a youthful blend of well-known and new ROSES. The sandalwood base note is long lasting…..the overall fragrance, packaging and marketing is a love story with re-“generational” life! Such a beautiful bottle too.
    Well done Dolce&Gabbana, Thank You.

  22. :

To me this is indeed an excellent rose and the reason that I loved this perfume on the first spray was that it’s not a straight up rose scent like the one that I had imagined. The idea of a rose scent to me is the one of Bvlgari Rose but this one is much more than a simple rose. To me is a watery rose that smells fruity, clean, fresh and mouth watering – I don’t know why I personally always get this feature in all of Dolce & Gabbana frags. It feels like summer in an locus amoenus, like in a green grass garden where flowers and fruits grow and emanate their fragrance all over the place. I simply fell in love with the perfume and I believe that this is one of those joy and happiness bringing scents. It’s beautiful in its simple semplicity.
Oh and I forgot to mention that the bottle design is purely marvellous.

  23. :

    4 out of 5

Slightly better then the other dolce from the same line.
Add in fresh rose, summer seems to eat up both this and dolce, the cooler weather keeps this crisp.
    Poor longevity imo

  24. :

    3 out of 5

Too bad…It starts with gentle and kinda fresh smell, but the longer I wear it the rose gets more “in your face” and my head starts to hurt. Big plus for the lovely bottle.

  25. :

    5 out of 5

This smells very daily-use product-y. Shampoo, lotion, something.
It’s pretty though, perfume for those who don’t want to be obvious that they are wearing perfume.
Roses and soapyness. I like it!

  26. :

Botanical rose, peppercorn, spices, baby powder, florals, peony. A sophisticated fragrance with very strong silage, nicely blended. Beautiful, but not representative of something I personally would wear. Review by CycoEva , May/2017

  27. :

    5 out of 5

This is a pretty scent. I get the neroli and rose at the beginning, with a soapy mid and a much fresher dry down. It was very much as if I had stained my body with rose petals, took a bath with a high quality white bar soap, then spent a long time rinsing and came out very clean. Like I said, pretty. One spray wasn’t enough, but three gave me a headache.

It’s a bouquet in a bottle, a floral print sundress in olfactory form. Perfect for any occasion that requires a sundress. Wear it with your favorite cotton dress and a large straw hat. Also good for those days when your haircut ended up shorter than expected, and you needed a boost of femininity

i’m glad i just have the trial vial and not the full bottle because for all the (supposedly) beautiful notes listed in this perfume, it just didnt live up to it’s name.
I got the first whiff of crisp apple and rose in the beginning which i really adore and hope that it will linger longer (like all day). But minutes after that, i got this sharp, acrid smell that really stings my nose. This sharp note lingers all day, unfortunately.
Great beginning, but after that only dissapointment. Thank goodness i only had the trial vial.

  30. :

    5 out of 5

I had high hopes because I like rose note in perfumes. Unfortunately, this one has disappointed me. It’s fresh in the beginning, soapy rose, nothing special. Then it becomes more close to skin and powdery rose, the kind of grandma one (no offense to grandmas), which I don’t like. The end is very musky and green. I was tired with wearing this fragrance. Definitely prefer Lancome, O d’Azur or Baby Doll by YSL when it comes to rose note.

  31. :

Simple rosy scent. Lasts about 2-3 hours. Very poor sillage.

  32. :

This is rose in the most simple & most beautiful form!
    I love it!
Classic & elegant, yet versatile & cozy enough to be causal.
    Love it!

I really liked this perfume for the first hour. It smelled very soft and gentle, sweet but fresh at the same time. Rose in this scent is not like a Queen Of Flowers – powerful and strong, no. It smells more like a rosebud, very calming. This perfume is not warm, it’s more fresh and cooling. For the first hour I was impressed with this scent and already wanted to buy it. But I’ve decided that I need to give it some time to develop, and it was the right decision.
All the flowers have dissapeared, and all that I could smell was musk. Musk with some green, watery notes (maybe it was water lily). The combination of animalistic, harsh musk with watery, green flower scent smelled weird to me. In the beginning this perfume was very feminine and reminded me of spring; but later it started to be more sharp and masculine.
Probably I will give this perfume one more chance.

  34. :

    5 out of 5

A lovely scent. Just rosey and lovely. Clean and not powdery. No big deal. No imagination in my opinion. But if you want just a rose perfume, this is it, blooms in hot weather and wraps the skin softly. Not totally flat, but not very complex either despite the considerable amount of notes. In my opinion Rosa Excelsa is in desperate need of sandalwood, as the wood notes are not prominent at all. It is enough musky for an EDT but layered with a musk-centered perfume it will last longer. As for me I would layer it with patchouli.
Opens like alcohol and soap; neroli. Very herbal, but it softens gradually in a soft borderline creamy rose. Feels indolic for some minutes, definitely a lot of flowers that I could not tell apart in Sephora, (and I don’t know how to identify), dance around the rose. I can read them now, seeing the notes, but still, my nose needs to be trained on the different types of lilies, narcissus; never heard of papaya flower.
    Floral, rose, musky, fresh? Yes.
Aquatic? No. I detect a creamy feeling.
Nothing extraordinary or groundbreaking but at the same time nothing wrong or terrible. A well executed fresh rosy eau de toilette.

  35. :

Dolce Rosa Excelsa is very floral more than sweet. It is a very pleasant fragrance although I am not going to repurchase. It smells like a lot of scents, nothing too special and it doesn’t stand out.

  36. :

    3 out of 5

Maybe it’s that i tried it today. In autumn, on a cold day.
Maybe it is something else. But I can not understand this perfume. It has no power at all. literally, no way to detect it on your skin. Maybe, if you inhale very deep on a spot where you sprayed it, than you’ll fell a bit of soap. Unfortunately, it seems that it does not match with my skin.

  37. :

    4 out of 5

This is slightly less nauseating than the original, but I still cannot fathom why anybody would want to pay for it. I received it as a gift and don’t know what exactly to do with it. It lasts all day long. Smells of soap and flowers, in the least appealing way imaginable. Ghastly. Do not blind purchase.

  38. :

    5 out of 5

When I first smelled it on paper I loved it, it was a fragant rose with fresh notes and some other florals which I couldnt identify but it just smelled amazing, intense on the paper and it lasted for days. I bought it when I had the chance to get it at discount and I regret to not have it tested on my skin before, what a difference! Even though I could already smell it from the box before first press, the scent is much weaker on the skin, also develops different, I get why others complained about powdery. It still smells nice I just wish it would smell more like on the paper and had more intensity, this is abolutely not worthy the price (70€/30ml ridiculous!),I’m disappointed.

  39. :

@Atreyus I agree about adding vanilla (honey not so much because while I love to eat honey, as a note in perfumes that I’ve tried it ends up ‘flat’ on my skin) to give this a touch of sweetness to break up the rosewater/dryer sheet scent this gives off. I just adore that opening spray of fresh red roses, but that dustiness it shortly turns into makes me :(.

  40. :

    4 out of 5

This is a nice scent, but nothing overly special. It is an everyday perfume for a well-dressed lady to go out shopping and to lunch with friends. No more, no less. It is too floral for a woman looking for a sporty, younger scent. I have smelled many perfumes like this, and this one won’t stand out. But if you were a European woman looking for a day scent that will not bother anybody, will not be too memorable, but will be pleasant and with an air of cosmopolitanism, this works.

  41. :

    5 out of 5

My initial impression after the first spray was of a fresh bouquet of roses in my grandmother’s garden. A true, fresh flower smell … If only it could be more than that!
I don’t get papaya blossom, and the neroli note is very green, which makes it kind of sneezy for me, so it’s not really the type of citrus opening I’d expect. I get white floral – even if the specific notes of white amaryllis, lily and daffodil are hard to discern – with lots of rose in the background, but it doesn’t really evolve beyond that.
It smells like a strong rosewater and non-descript-floral room spray, actually. It’s not bad, but it’s nothing to write home about either.
I’d like a sweet note like honey or vanilla to balance the rose and carry it on the skin longer. I can’t detect sandalwood or musk, although the cashmere does stick out as a base note. Again though, it’s more sneeze-worthy than anything else. Yes it’s clean, and I do love the rose notes, but it just stays flat, like a dryer sheet on my skin, before disappearing.
That’s unfortunate, because I’ve wanted to add a good rose fragrance to my collection for some time.
I will give this scent a couple more chances, of course. The first time I wore it was on a weekend morning, weather was very moderate, and I jumped in the shower to get ready to go somewhere within a few hours. So maybe wearing it longer, or wearing it in warmer weather, will have a different effect.
But so far, there doesn’t seem to be anything really striking about this fragrance, except for its lack of depth. Disappointing.

    A nice inoffensive rosey perfume.
    Period.
    .

  43. :

    4 out of 5

There is nothing excellent or outstanding about Rosa Excelsa. It’s a nice perfume but it definitely lacks consistency. Too faint and inoffensive. I hope D&G spares us the floral drops because this is already nondescript rose.

  44. :

    3 out of 5

This perfume is truly fabulous. I loved it the instant I sampled it for the first time. Sometimes it takes me a while to make up my mind about a perfume but in this case, I just fell in love and had to have it. It’s floral and sweet without being too much and the rose adds a delicate-ness to it. Rosa Excelsa is probably my new favorite perfume and I JUST got it. AMAZING.

  45. :

The first thing that draws you is the frosted glass bottle finished off with a black bow and a delicate red rose cap.
When you smell it for the first time you feel an classic and romantic, tender and warmy smell of musk mixed with rose. I can feel the narcissus but it gets lost through this fresh and not at all powdery mix. The red colour is defining and you can feel it when you open the bottle. This mix of musk and rose makes you think of red.
Althrough is a classic it should appeal to most ages and tastes. It is a rose version of the original Dolce fragrance.

  46. :

    3 out of 5

I agree that if you like Florabotanica, then there is a good chance you’d like this too. For me it was a miss. Not because I thought it smelt bad, but because it was almost too aggressively soapy clean smelling. It lasted a really long time for a fresh scent, much like Florabotanica did on me as well, however the rose note didn’t stick around as long, which was a shame really since it was ok while it lasted.

  47. :

    3 out of 5

This is lovely, not overly sweet just true rose and gentle flowers. It’s clean and pretty but unlike one is wearing fragrance. I can’t imagine it would bother anyone. It stays consistent for me but sadly it just doesn’t have enough oomph from the start. It does last on the skin a little longer than average but it is just too quiet.

  48. :

    4 out of 5

Very floral, not a lot of rose, more like a dry garden in high summer, or like the horticulture tents at country shows. No sweetness, a bit green, a bit like room spray. Nice sophisticated little bottle but it’s really just a well dressed air freshener.

  49. :

    4 out of 5

I wanted to love this and I got so close, but this turns just a touch too ‘dusty’ on me before fading into oblivion at a pretty rapid rate. I really do like the initial few seconds where the beautiful full red rose is able to shine, but then the original Dolce comes out and while I like the original Dolce for what it is, I wanted the rose to shine here and the intensity of the musk just smothers it out too much for my liking. If only the musk were eliminated or it had a shot of aldehydes to make it clearer…

  50. :

    5 out of 5

I love this as much as the first two roses are my favorite and this is perfect not too over powering just right lasts pretty good too worth the buy

  51. :

    4 out of 5

I’ve read some scathing reviews of this, but I like it, for what it is. Frankly, I expect nothing from new fragrance releases, so when one catches my attention, it’s pretty exciting. I am a lifelong rose gardener and roses continue to be one of the greatest passions in my life. This does not smell like only roses, really. It smells like white flowers with some rose scent in the background, and even though no citrus notes are listed, I smell sweet lemon in the rose tones. There are roses with strong citrus bouquets, but my mind conjures “lemon” upon first sniff. Rose Excelsa is extremely “clean” but it doesn’t smell like air freshener or laundry detergent. It smells like “perfume” as far as that goes since IFRA went insane. The bottle is very pretty, and this is a lovely hot weather fragrance. I really enjoy Dolce Rosa Excelsa, and it’s a good purchase for me. If you like Florabotanica (I LOVE Florabotanica) you’ll probably like this as well. They don’t smell alike, but they are both fresh scents haunted by rose. Rosa Elcelsa’s lasting power on skin is good. It lasts a few hours, especially when I’m warm. My husband thinks is smells wonderful…always a plus! In addition to enjoying this fragrance, I adore the video with Sophia Loren. So much fun!

  52. :

Featured rose events are usually not my favorites, but there are some stunners out there (Malle POAL???). But this is a dud imho. For the summer kick-off we have here a soft, forgettable, vaguely laundry detergent, somewhat-rose-mixed-with cashmeran everyday light aquatic (and office friedly)–because who after all doesn’t generally enjoy that dryer-scent wafting through the early evening air as we worker bees come home and do the wash? Really folks–there are better, even prettier bottles (a feature many seem drawn to with this) with much better juice. However, if someone is wearing this next to me, I won’t mind! I probably won’t notice.

  53. :

    5 out of 5

    I love this perfume.
I’m not a fan of fresher scents, so this is about as fresh as I get. Fresh and slightly aquatic, with strong, almost heady florals. I mostly get the water lily and rose, maybe some neroli, with the musk peeking through to give it a bit of an edge. The drydown is soft, feminine and musky, with the faintest sandalwood.
I’m surprised by people finding it light or fading into something dull – both me and my husband found it to be something I would have to go lightly on, and this is even after a couple hours of wear.
Fresh and floral, without being childish or too young-smelling.
To me, this is the perfect scent for an overly warm spring evening sitting outside drinking cocktails. I’ve got no garden on my balcony, but I can bring one along with this perfume. It’s just lovely.

  54. :

i’ve tried this today.nice, flowery everyday scent.nothing too special though.there are plenty fragrances like this. not good, not bad-normal 🙂 i guess it would be good for spring,as it’s about to come here in Northern Europe 🙂

  55. :

    3 out of 5

Honestly, what even is this – Sprayed it on, got a faint smell of roses then it just dissappeared! For such a renound company I am shocked as this is honestly so dissappointing. Feels like a body mist…
The bottle is obviously gorgeous as is the original Dolce, but to me – a total waste of money.

  56. :

    4 out of 5

It’s similar to Dolce, but has a rosy scent. Not too strong, but maybe a little too fresh and aquatic for my taste. I hoped that it would have been more different from the original Dolce. I sprayed this in store and then went home and had a quick shower, the scent still lasted, so I’m guessing the longevity is pretty good. If I have to pick between this and the original Dolce, I would go for this.

  57. :

    4 out of 5

I think it’s just awful. It’s a stinking rose scent. Literally!
It’s musky and musty. I knew, I didn’t like the other flankers, but I also didn’t think it was going to be this bad.
It’s actually quite typical rose scent, but sometimes even rose scents are good. Well, not this time.
I also think it’s done before.

  58. :

    4 out of 5

I feel the same as the other reviewers, I tried it this weekend, and I can’t remember what it smelled like!? Vaguely floral, very light, almost not there….only if you like very soft rose scents..this is a waste of a flanker in my opinion!?

  59. :

    5 out of 5

Again, such a beautiful bottle. I wish I was as blown away by the fragrance inside- but I’m not. Please, I just want the fragrance to be as beautiful and as special as the bottle it is in! Nothing bad, scent is just another plain floral rose fragrance nothing distinguishable about it at all for me. Disappointed.

  60. :

    3 out of 5

The bottle for Dolce Rosa is so insanely beautiful (as is the original) & I badly wanted to like it…Pink frosted glass, red rose top and black bow. But to my nose this smells just like rose water. A delicate whisper of something that could be very good.

  61. :

    3 out of 5

At first it is very similar to the first Dolce. Very soapy and clean. However, after some time is reminds me of Dolce Floral Drops. I like it, but I won’t buy it because it’s nothing new, just the worse copy of existing fragrance.
Moreover, red cap looks like cheap plastic indeed.

  62. :

    4 out of 5

there is a vague citrusy rose scent but its masked and ruined by a savory note – maybe this daffodil musk :/ and so I don’t know if I like it or not – its v light and to smell all the notes I have to press my nose right up to the scent card otherwise all I can smell is musky daffodil… and on skin I got no rose at all.. its v light and soft, average longevity. reminds me of J’adore.

  63. :

    3 out of 5

It’s a light-hearted floral that had the potential to be something. When sprayed initially I got hints of neroli and rose and it was extremely pleasant that I had to take a minute to compose myself. After 10 minutes or so it faded into the dullest monotone floral. The bottle is exquisite though!

  64. :

    3 out of 5

For me this is the beautiful good-humoured scent. Rose is delicate and quiet.
This scent is more gentle from the original Dolce edp ( I have it).
    The beautiful bottle.

  65. :

    3 out of 5

Light and barely there fragrance – very spring appropriate. It’s surprisingly long-wearing (or at least decently-wearing) for a light scent. The note of daffodil is very distinguishable, but it is not a perfume for me. Too unexciting in a way.

  66. :

    3 out of 5

To me this is amazing. Very stylish without being too sophisticated, strong without being too much, perfect mix between floral and sweet.
I’ve tested it today in Boots, will definitely buy it.
