Description

The Jo Malone collection has been expanded by another saffron-inspired edition. The name of the fragrance is Jo Malone Saffron Cologne Intense and it combines the sensuality of oriental wood and saffron, providing a unique and very modern fragrant bouquet.

Top notes of the composition incorporate incense, pink pepper and bergamot. Tartness and freshness characterize the opening of the composition, soothed by pleasant notes of incense. The heart includes saffron, iris and sandalwood, adding spicy and powdery shades warmed by creamy woody notes. The base is built around a union of guaiac wood and blond wood, enriched with sensual white musk and warm amber.

Jo Malone Saffron Cologne Intense belongs to the collection of Cologne Intense and arrives in black glass flacons with silver-colored stoppers. The fragrance is expected in sales from June 2013 as 100 ml eau de cologne intense.

I bought a bottle of this, mainly because it was discontinued and hard to find.
Saffron is strong at the beginning but fades away after about 20-30 min and I’m left with soft wood and iris that last some good time (10-12 hours on me). The projection is low on this, it’s very intimate but with excellent longevity of the base notes.
I can’t really smell amber, musk or incense here.

what a shame this has been discontinued because it is such a unique scent. It is warm and woody and incense and, of course, saffron. If anyone can suggest replacement or a dupe I would be most grateful. Even though this was marketed in the Intense line, longevity and sillage are awful, I can shower myself with it and an hour later literally zero trace remains. It has much better staying power on my boyfriend so it shows body chemistry has a lot to do with it. I still have about 25ml in my large bottle and I treasure it, using it for very special occasions only. I also feel it compliments deeper shades of clothing better than light. Just my personal opinion.

Saffron is my favourite Jo Malone!
An alluring saffron solifore… supported mainly by vanilla which together creates a beautiful suede accord. It is slightly sweet but not gourmand – just classy! Moderate silage but with great longevity.
When I want a suede accord fragrance, it’s either Jo Malone’s Saffron or Le Labo’s Santal 33.
Saffron is warmer and has a cozy effect, whereas Santal 33 is more austere and avant garde. Love them both!
Saffron is unfortunately discontinued, so I am glad I have my back-up bottles.

This is very nice. Just not, at all, a masculine scent to me. This and Vanilla/Anise are the two I really wanted to like but they were both too feminine.

So far, the best saffron I ever tried.

Great saffron note coalesces into a vanilla saffron gourmand ending on an extremely light base of vanilla sugar and warm woods. Maybe some powdery rose/ iris? in there. This one is tenacious on clothes and hair, lasting 6 or more hours but the wow factor, the saffron opening and the gourmand saffron confectionary cloud, is very short–half hour to 45 minutes at most, although whiffs return from clothes and hair and in quite an appealing way. Still appealing as a skin scent with 2-3 inches of projection. I reapplied and got a much denser cloud of this confectionary base, which retains some of the suede edge of the saffron. One of the more interesting Jo Malone’s that I keep returning to for its uniqueness.

This is a beautiful warm creamy saffron, great on its own or paired with other Jo malones such as Oud and Bergamot. It is one of my favourites, if it’s one of yours or you are thinking of maybe getting it one day then get it soon because it is being discontinued due to the introduction of the new Incense and Cedrat intense cologne.

I can’t argue with the reviews about the wow factor this has with its opening…. Upon first application its luscious leather, like a new soft handbag luscious, and some woody accompaniment joining hands with the saffron.
Sadly for some, or happily for others, this lasts for mostly 10-15 minutes until it completely morphs into a softer, powdery iris and wood, which is actually very pretty but leading to a much more feminine, even soft soapy vibe…
This is probably one of the most chameleonesque scents I have ever experienced, but you certainly have to let it evolve on your skin.

Wonderful review below! I have to say it has the same effect on me. I first tried this when the cologne intense range were launched and despite living it, saffron kinda got lost in the mix as the Oud & bergamot still shines with a unique clarity. Upon re inspection this fragrance is a lot more up my street, very warm oriental and natural. It sits on the skin so well, enhancing a kind of natural skin aroma without being animal. That’s the scentual quality of saffron, and it really is one of my (if not ‘the’) favourite notes in all perfumery. I had previously overlooked Jo Malone saffron as starting out very earthy and rough, super accurate basically. It soon settles though to a familiar soft and gorgeous saffron aroma which smells to me like its blended with various woods, mainly creamy sandalwood and a hint of vanilla. It’s absolutely beautiful stuff…very long lasting and subtle projection which last very well indeed on clothes. I can’t fault it and I think I may have to get it to satisfy my saffron fetish.

I tried this for the first time in London; where the sales lady covered my wrist in it as well as Peony Blush Suede(which I already owned) told me to crush them together while wet, and then sent me on my way. I spent the rest of the day pulling my wrist to my nose and inhaling followed by my eyes rolling in the back of my head and a long ‘ahhhhhh’. It lasted at least 6 hours.
I kept craving it after back in the US so I went and got a big bottle. Now my Peony Blush Suede is out (and #1 on my to buy list – bigger bottle this time).
I like this on it’s own too. It’s not something everyone is wearing and I like that. It’s also nice layered with the French Lime Blossom lotion, although my husband doesn’t like that stuff – says it’s too old lady for him.
I think this will last me a while, and I may miss it when it’s gone. Jo Malone hooks me like that.

Probably one of the best saffron scents I ever smelled. A wonderful blend of soft saffron and dry woods. Maby I can smell some leathery accords which makes it very interesting. A great fall scent. The blend is really good, but like a lot of ppl think, the sillage is too shy. On me the longevity is quite good (~6hrs), so I don’t criticise that.

The first 10 minutes literally make me weak at the knees. To me, the combination of the top notes evoke leather, rather than wood or saffron — am I the only one to get this impression? Not the harsh leather of a chain-smoking biker’s jacket, but the soft comforting smell of a leather coat worn over a sweater in October.
With each passing minute after that, the beautiful coat-like scent morphs into something creamier and slightly cookie-ish, maybe the sandalwood shining through. After 30 minutes, all that is left is a cozy skin scent.
There is absolute beauty in those first 10 minutes, and there’s something to be said for that. It makes this perfume well worth it for me.

Gahh. I should’ve listened to the previous reviews before buying–I love this scent, but it lasts something like ten minutes. I’m persevering with it because, hey, I already own it, and the smell makes me happy–but it fades shortly after I’m out the door, and I will not be re-purchasing.
Edited: I might as well go into *what* I think it smells like, even though my suggestion to anyone reading would be to skip this one due to its five-minute longevity.
On me, the scent is juxtaposed and versatile–crisp enough to be worn on a summer afternoon, dense and rich enough for a winter evening. And so on.
There’s a moderate heavy undertone that I like: sort of amber, but on the bright/sweet side, and leather, but not musky/animalic. Main notes to me are incense and sandalwood…but its overall impression is fresh and floral, more so than woodsy. Like I said: juxtaposed.

This is all right. As in if this was a 20EUR cologne I might ponder about purchasing it. However, considering you can get organic saffron absolute for 10EUR on eBay or for slightly more in selected health shops, and it smells stronger for longer, I’ll stick with that.
A fool and his money is easily parted, comes to show again.

On me it’s a soft, warm, comforting scent. With the dry down the saffron and sandalwood mingled into a soft cream with just enough amber to make I interesting. I agree it’s a skin scent, and it wasn’t long lasting enough–mostly gone at five hours–for me to want to pay the price. But it was pretty heavenly while it lasted, like being snuggled in a warm blanket, or lying in the shade on a hot day while a gentle breeze caresses your skin. Definitely worth trying on skin to check if it’s flattering on you.I bet it also layers beautifully for a lot of scents, though I liked it too much on its own to put anything on it this first try.
Update: I was wrong about the longevity. I just caved and bought it in this year’s (2014) “intense” gift set. In fact, now that I’m wearing it outside a situation of testing several scents at once, the longevity is very good. It’s lasted me through half a dozen hand washes and eight hours of office work today. At this point it’s mostly a light, sweet amber, but it’s still a snuggley warm scent.

To my nose, it makes me want to eat “paella” hahaha
I really want to have it. No joking, this one has something addictive. I think to mix this with tom ford noir d’ noir, or tuscan leather. JM Is really great to mix.

Had bought Pear Fresia type after smelling in a magazine. Initially smelt awesome …sweet fruity but after about 20 min OK 30 minutes almost ALL gone NO projection …i like this fragrance BUT hate the longevity so will NEVER buy again

I agree with the previous reviewers. Such a quiet scent, a huge disappointment! There is a little bit of saffron in the opening, then the scent merges into this dry, peppery, woodsy whisper, which is quite pleasant and I only wish it was stronger.
I much prefer Korres’s Saffron creation.
Nothing intense about this cologne, except for the feeling of intense fury re it’s lasting power and projection.

I tried this for the first time today and I can honestly say that I’m disappointed. The initial opening is very nice and the saffron is beautiful however this doesn’t last for long. Once the saffron has worn off, the scent then turns soapy…I keep getting a whiff of washing powder for a while after I’d put it on. I won’t be buying a full size bottle.

£100 for the subtlest perfume I’ve ever tried! Rip off! Its like a ghost, barely there and zero projection. Haven’t a clue why its in the intense range.
There is a whisper of saffron, but i mainly get dry blonde woods. As it develops some amber creeps in, but really there is not too much to this. Such a shame, best used as a base for layering with a brighter scent. I found it works beautifully with blackberry and bay.

Well, this is a very nice composition but criminally underpowered. It had virtually no projection and faded with 15 minutes when I tried it out.
I think if you’re selling a scent like this for £100 + you have a responsibility to make sure it lasts a bit longer than 15 minutes.
Send the perfumer back to the lab!

I can hardly wait to have it as it is that im in love with Saffron !
P.S. is it gonna be like Silver Shadow Davidoff as it has Saffron in the heart note !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just tried this few days ago. I have to say Saffron is very very quiet scent.
I’m quite surprised to see leather is not listed in the notes pyramid. To me, I smelled incense, leather, saffron and some woodsy smells. The scent itself is really nice, could make you calm. I have to say it’s more about leather than saffron to my nose, not strong like Thierry Mugler A*Men or Tom Ford style, more like a toned-down, watery leather but it’s still dominant. Other notes kind of layered on top of leather note. Very nice composition.
However, Saffron’s down side is its projection. Even I personally don’t like humongous sillage cologne, I still find Saffron way too soft. I could barely smell anything, it stays very very close to skin since the beginning. The longevity is alright since the sale assistant sprayed Vetyver combined with Nutmeg & Ginger on my other wrist and Vetyver faded out before Saffron. Having said that, Vetyver projected a lot more.
To me, it’s such a shame because I love the scent but let down by its projection.
