I found it quite appropriate to tackle this one after reviewing Pour Monsieur.
This was originally launched in 1989 as Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentreé. A few years back, it got labelled Eau de Parfum. I’ve had bottles of both and can’t detect much of a difference between them.
Basically this is an updated CPM with an oriental twist. Like CPM, it’s quite timeless. It doesn’t feel dated to 1989. Unlike CPM, you could buy a bottle of this today and smell fresh. Not modern, but fresh. This, like Pasha de Cartier, is quite a formal scent that will work for anyone who is 25 or older.
Anyway, the scent.
This has that same opening as CPM. A dusty citrus. It’s a bit spicier and greener of the top, but still very much a citrus accord without any tricks to it.
A subtle vetiver note appears, and ties the citrus together. It’s at this stage quite woody.
The base shows up. A very nice vanilla accord. It’s not a gourmand vanilla like we are used to in 2018, instead it’s a semi-sweet vanilla, that shows all the facets of raw vanilla. Sweet, yet spicy
In the end you are left with a citrus-vanilla on your skin. This may sound similar to Edition Blanche, but it really isn’t. Blanche is playful and fun. Suitable for any situation. CPM EDP is more of a gentleman’s scent.
Of course, much hate has been written about this scent online. Flanking Chanel Pour Monsieur must have been tough, but I think it was reasonably accomplished here.
In 2018, I find this version much more compelling and inviting than the original. It fits better with the world of today.
Longevity is good – 7-8 hours.
Rating: 7.5/10
dragonega – :
Blind bought this fragrance based on reviews here. I wanted to like this fragrance as the reviews suggested this was comparable to Eau Sauvage but found Pour Monsieur Parfum to give off a moth ball scent with a cloying vanilla dry down. This fragrance may be okay for an older gentleman but not recommended for the under 45 crowd.
АртемШалыгин – :
I hardly need to add my voice to this, but this is one of my absolute must-buys. Every man should try it once. It doesn’t smell anything like Dior Eau Sauvage, but it is conceptually similar insofar as it represents a classic of the mid 20th century canon.
I get a clean and creamy, although not especially sweet, citrus. French lavender (not the English stuff.) Honeyed bark and just a brushstroke of vetiver. That luxurious Chanel spice comes out too, although it’s soft and very gentle here.
I like to think about fragrance as people. There is a man who lives near me who is tall, slim, blond and very handsome. I think he’s in his late 30s although he could pass for 10 years younger. There’s an elven delicacy to him but also an imperiousness; a confidence. He is light, but not weak. He moves with the grace of a ballet dancer and is always beautifully, if understatedly, dressed. I don’t know what fragrance he wears – he’s too classy to ever wear anything that projects too much – but in personality terms, he is Chanel Pour Monsieur down to a T.

@greg1187
I’ve heard before that IFRA didn’t totally ban oakmoss. It still can be used, but up to only 0.1% concentration out of the total volume.
FYI.
korysheff – :
Knightofwands,
We will probably never hear from you again, since there are no similarities between Chanel & Dior. Chanel is a sweet dense oily perfume which smells like Neroli Ivy. Ivy, not Orange blossom Neroli, while Dior is a more acid citrus one. Chanel is too sweet for Summer. More a Fall/Winter frag.
maxim-3211 – :
Pour Monsieur EDP is an incredible formulation from Chanel, given the IFRA restrictions on oakmoss etc.
Oakmoss is actually still listed in the ingredients on the back of the box, which has to be rare in this day and age.
To me this smells like a smooth, fizzy lemon & oakmoss cream soda, if one can imagine such a concoction!
From my experience, Chanel do not mess around when recreating their classics. Basically a must have for any serious fragrance collector. Get it now before it changes.

I bought this a couple of weeks ago. I’m still trying to work out how this relates to Dior Eau Sauvage EDP, both 2012 & 2017 versions.
There are some close similarities, but also distinct differences. Chanel PM EDP has a smoother, more refined opening. I say that these scents could easily substitute for one another, but I wouldn’t, at this stage go any further than that. Dior has the edge by having 100ml bottles in a similar price range to Chanel’s 75ml offering.
To be honest. I love all three, and want to keep them all available in my collection.
I will update if I work out the differences/similarities, but don’t bank on it 🙂

This scent is wonderful! I have just acquired a bottle after years of admiring the PM Concentree and more recently ‘revamped’ Eau de Parfum.
It lasts a long time and projects moderately – I noticed it on myself throughout the day.
A fresh (not sharp) burst of citrus, followed by rich and intense lavender and vanilla. It feels dry and green. This line dates back to the 1950s and it smells classic but not dated.
I have previously dabbled with Eau Sauvage EDT but this feels smoother and warmer.
I love it!
cherkov – :
“Scent of a persistent sophisticated gentleman, strong, clean, lemony but green”
A bit musky in a dry down but just in the right proportion.
noenohitch1980 – :
I’d been wearing the Concentree for years-well before becoming a fragrance enthusiast. At some point in refilling my order, I selected the Parfum rather than the EDT. Since I only recently noticed the difference on the bottle, I’m going to say there is virtually no difference in the scents. Some of you may disagree, but I ask you to remember that like beauty, smells are in the eyes-and schnoz-of the beholder.
Pour Monsieur Concentree is absolutely wonderful. It’s a blend of lightly spicy, woody and green notes that compliment an overall sweet, dry, soapy, talc-like body. It’s very barbershop (a phrase I find myself using perhaps too much) and a truly clean, mature, and versatile scent. I firmly believe that you wear what you like regardless of age, sex, etc., but I think this is best sported by an older man and may not appeal to the sub-30 crowd.
maison157 – :
Pour Monsieur makes me feel powerful and dignified. Bright citrus and powdery lavender with a slight metallic edge and a beautiful creaminess gives way to a base of gorgeous vanilla and Vetiver. Undoubtedly masculine, but the right woman could easily pull this off.
Its non-linear beauty unfolds over the course of 5 to six hours with great longevity and projection.
Pour Monsieur is far from modern, but it’s a timeless, versatile, classic.

Pure class in a bottle. Wonderful fragrance from Chanel which I find more refined as an EDP compared to the EDT.
Almost a must have if you are aged 35+.

@johnnyz:
PM & PMC share the same DNA, they’re both oakmoss/vetivery based classic adult male scents with some citrus on top.
The main difference is that PMC is, in layman terms, “dirtier” or, better yet, “stingier” at it is a more sharp fragrance. PM is more rounded and softer.
If U own PMC and like it, chances are U’d be a bit dissapointed with PM, as it is similar but is less prominent.
PMC is somewhat an umped version of PM that Chanel introduced in the midst of the powerhouse craze as they aimed PM lovers that weren’t ready to switch to smth completely new.
Personaly, PMC is my favorite of the two as it has more charachter, but it is the less refined one.
To put in perspective PM is a full suit & tie pinstriped attirre, PMC loses the tie and stripes for a black suit and unbuttons the first three buttons of the shirt.
Hope it helps.
luusernamef6 – :
Man I don’t know what is wrong with my nose or with the Fragrance Communities noses.
Oldfactoryfan claims Chanel PM EDP to be comparable to Colonia Assoluta, where I scent zero similaraties. Colonia Assoluta is a Lemon, Orange, Bergamot based very fresh and light Summer fragrance, while Pour Monsieur EDP is a far warmer, Spicy Fall Spring fragrance. Quite entoxicating in warm weather.
Godking sees general similarities with Edition Blanche and also Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluta, where I would say these two are closer to the original Pour Monsieur, all Spring/Summer fragrances in my opinion.
and Phenomenal disregards this one because there are better Vetiver based fragrances, as if this were one. There is hardly any vetiver in it.
What apparently everybody misses is that the total scent of this Chanel fragrance comes closer to the oily sweetness of NEROLI ivy, drenched in vanilla. A scent non of the so called Neroli based fragrances like TF Neroli Portofino or Bright Neroli by Ferrari even comes close to. Because what the Neroli praised fragrances in fact smell like is Lemon, Bergamot and Citrus. Not Neroli!
By the way, I own all above mentioned fragrances. So my comments are not based upon a brief encounter.
But than again, maybe it’s just my nose.
mrgoga – :
Good one from Chanel (at last).
Reminds strongly of the original PM, a tad more sweet in the drydown and a lot soapier so it’s not for people who are sensitive to pure soap smelling fragrances. That is, actually it’s only downside, other than that it’s almost perfect as a minimalistic elegant and timeless scent.
Longevity is good to excellent (8 to 10+ h), projection is good for the first couple of hours and than moderate as this is not one to show off, but to enjoy.
Personaly, I’m a fan of PMC as it is (was) stingier and kind of hoped this will be a “best of both worlds” deal, but no, it’s a sweeter, soapier PM with immensely better staying power than the last formulations of EDT.
Fans of the PM will be delighted for sure, the rest of us will be satisfied.
Grab one or two of these right now, as I bet they’ll dilute it within two years or so.
Overall a strong B+, would be an A if not for being a interpretation of smth. that’s around for almost 70 years.

I’m really not as well versed in the world of fragrance as many of you are… I have the 1989 version of this ( Concentree ) and I’m curious if anyone here can tell me what the difference is between the one I have and this new “Parfum” version is? …. Is this the scent the same, just stronger / lighter ? Or is it a different fragrance altogether? .. Thanks in advance!!
prakin – :
This is a wonderful scent. It introduce itself with lavender and a juicy lemon blended with vanilla giving it a tarty smell. Yes, that lemon is very bright and natural smelling to my nose. People will react to this scent in the opening which last 15-30 mins. This scent starts of with good projection then it suddenly hugs the skin tightly very quickly. The lemon goes away then you get the vanilla and that nutmeg spice blending with your skin DNA. You really have to dig your nose in for a sniff of the scent after 2 hours. The fragrance in the drydown smells like your body can produce this scent and you are not wearing a fragrance. I think that is pretty cool thing. This is a versatile fragrance that you can wear smart dress right to formal setting. This is not a strong scent so I can’t see you disturbing anyone. People do like this one in the first hour. I am glad I have this one and I could see myself wearing this when I am very old. This is a modern fragrance with a classic scent.
ruslanzr – :
Amazing!!! The huge question, and debate, is whether or not this smells like the EDT Concentree. IMO…YES! There are slight, yet subtle differences between the two, but if you love the EDT Concentree, then you will love the EDP. Go light though…this is one beast of a frag. I hit myself with 3 sprays, and when my dog came near me, he,started drooling excessively. He caught a taste of it. The next day, I could still smell it throughout my house from the sillage. Having worn both the Cologne and EDT Concentree versions, I must say that I am in love with this fragrance all over again. IMO, this is the best kept secret. Sophisticated, yet timeless….
gbx650speagoessenda – :
This may well become my signature scent. IMHO, Chanel Pour Monsieur edp is classy, elegantly masculine, beautiful, and versatile. It is not overpowering, and I seem to get excellent longevity–8 plus hours. I can see wearing this casually, at work, or out for the evening year round. And, my wife likes it too!

It took me some time to get used to this EdP. For about a year, I tried it on paper blotters, cloth, and my own skin, and finally said I have to get it.
Upon the first wearing, it was nothing like my previous impressions – a heavy opening, a somewhat confusing development, and an elusive drydown. But I quickly adjusted myself (or rather my nose) to this masterpiece.
Yes, the opening is strong and impressive, with a prominent sweet, patchouli-like note. But then lavender steps in, and woody accords gradually replace the soapy ones. I should call it a “perfectly packed vetiver”. The drydown is smoky, dreamlike, endless.
Pour Monsieur EdP has a sophisticated kind of charm without being too complex. Sillage and longevity are above average. A powerful and elegant alternative to my all-time favourite Eau Sauvage – sans myrrh and with much more presence.
Here’s a true classic, worth every penny. Recommended!
dark080886 – :
This juice is gorgeous! Opens up with a sweet lemon candy note(which initially turned me off) but after about 15-30 minutes it starts to blossom a little and the harsh lemony vibe starts to mellow and the lavender starts to take over and it begins to feel more woody. This is a mature type scent. Def a signature scent on the right guy. I have had this bottle for over a year now and I’m just now giving it a real wearing. Projects and lasts just right. I’m really loving it. This, to me, fits right in between Chanel allure pour homme and coromandel. I suggest trying it out, it’s truly a charmer.
Suggested age: 35 +
Scent 9/10
Longevity 8/10
Sillage 7/10

GodKing – Outstanding review, thanks for that. Just emptied my last bottle of the EDT., this was my awesome signature for over a decade. Now, I shall spray this EDP when in the mood for my classic Chanel. I will always have it. Creamy, Woody dry down…! Go with what you got.
FANCLER – :
I hate to rub against the grain. I know this is a classic. I grew up wearing platinum egoiste so perhaps I don’t have the same appreciation for this or perhaps this just smells nothing like the edt I would likely be more familiar with.
Here is the thing. I love vetiver fragrances and I own some good ones. Besides having tried many. This smells like designer Vetiver to me. It’s a bit bland or boring for my taste. I would prefer something else. This one is vetiver for “your dad”, imo. Pass on this one for me.
dapannock – :
Wow! I’ve worn this fragrance (mostly during warm weather months) for more than two years, so I probably should post a review. The presentation is well done–both box and bottle–and the then new 75ml EDP bottle was pretty much the same as Concentree, and the juice looked to be of a similar lime juice coloring. I have only recently tried the reformulated Pour Monsieur EDT and now discontinued Pour Monsieur Concentree, so I can now make a comparison between the three.
I get lemon-lime and neroli at the opening. Initially, I stood with my hands down my pants and that distance blank stare on my face (i.e., Al Bundy deep thinking) searching my olfactory database for any similar fragrances. I really couldn’t come up with anything. It had some general similarities with Edition Blanche and Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluta, but it’s not creamy like and lacks that Allure DNA and Assoluta, which is quite sharp and slightly bitter at the opening. Pour Monsieur EDP is just a smoooooth lemon-lime scent with a touch of neroli. It exudes a classy vibe and I envision someone like Gene Kelly or Bing Crosby to be wearing this fragrance. Yet, it doesn’t feel dated…at least not to me, but it may to a younger audience.
This smooth lemon-lime-neroli opening lasts about 15-minutes on my skin before transitioning to an aromatic phase with a fresh spiciness to it. What I am getting out of this? The lemon-lime accord has faded, but the neroli is still handing around. Moreover, I am sensing a bit of coriander, nutmeg, cardamom and something giving it a touch of sweetness blended with this spicy accord. However, the sweetness is very, very light and I am not detecting any vanilla. T he aromatic accord is hard to describe. It feels like lavender, but I don’t actually smell lavender.
After 30-minutes I’m starting to detect a woody accord building-up in the background, which appears to be a gentle oakmoss note and…wait a second, I am kind of getting that Bois des Iles creamy sandalwood feeling…then again, I just noticed a hint of vanilla jumping out at me. Also, I noticed that it is smelling different when I sniff my wrist then whey I let it waft off my arm and up to my nose.
An hour and a half in and things have now changed from my 30-minute observation, and this is where the magic takes place. I’m just sensing a fresh, aromatic, citrus, effervescent scent. It kind of reminds me of Sierra Mist soda with a bit of a vanilla cream soda and woody accord (oakmoss and sandalwood). But it’s also very smooth and elegant. Until now I felt that Pour Monsieur was a suit & tie Spring/Summertime daytime scent. While true, I feel that it could now be worn in somewhat less formal settings such as light business casual or while on a Sunday brunch with family. Pour Monsieur EDP is a more mature scent (30+) but it’s not at all dated and, while more of a formal fragrance, it has a bit of a playful undertone that makes it more versatile that I had imagined. I wear a suit & tie in the office so this is a perfect work scent.
Pour Monsieur projects moderately and lasts around 7-8 hours on my skin, which is perfect for this kind of fragrance. After four hours the scent is close to my skin. Although it doesn’t project out very far, it leaves a very nice scent trail that follows me when I move around.
To me, Pour Monsieur EDP sits right in the middle of the Pour Monsieur and Pour Monsieur Concentree and hits that Goldilocks sweet-spot right in the middle. Cheers!
By the way…Chanel Pour Monsieur EDP was not launched in 2016, as mistakenly claimed, because I purchased a bottle from Chanel.com on 1/4/2015 and it was available for sale in December 2014 if not earlier.

Dreamersdream,
I bought a 50 ML in the Netherlands end 2013 and a 100 ML in March 2016 in Portugal. They are identic.
The 100 ML has a carved number on the back side 8304.
Don’t have the 50 ML anymore.
These have been longevity monsters for me.
Although projection is a bit subjective. I have a bad nose so for me most fragrances are skin scents or close to skin.
AHSeE I can detect all day. One among a dozen out of 100 I own.
Unlike Allure Homme sport, which is mainly a skin scent for about 6 h. When occasionally I visit my clients and drive over 500 km a day, I only rely on a few fragrances. Eau Extreme is the only one for Spring & Summer. Sometimes also in Fall/Winter time although for the colder period I also use Antheaus, Prada Amber Intense. YSL La Nuit de L’homme. Montblanc Individuel and Armani Code Ultimate.
Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme is the only fragrance I rely on during the warmer period for heavy duty.
There are a few movies on You tube, about recognising real Chanels from fakes. Go check that out.
gomik19873105 – :
Guest I bet you don’t know Allure homme sport eau extreme.
You say it has poor performance? Than you must be mistaken with something very different.
This is the most versatile fragrance I own and performs beastly all year round. This is a 7.00 to 23.00 fragrance and never a skin fragrance. Most fragrances don’t perform very well on my skin, which absorbs pretty fast, but not this one.
I agree with the other fragrances you mention having performance issues, but that is rather common for Summer fragrances like the ones you mentioned above. Unless you add a huge amount of Vetiver. But that is a note not everybody likes in large percentages.
Antheaus, Egoist, Platinum Egoist and Allure Homme Sport eau extreme are all performance monsters even if the latter 2 are suitable for Summer.

Amazingly nice smell…..lemon & lavender appear really heavily for the first 30 minutes (personally I wouldn’t go out at this stage), then it settles down to gentle woody, sweet & a little bit soapy.
Though it is said chypre type, the base note has a hint of oriental touch, thanks to vanilla and nutmeg.
The sillage is moderate but the longevity is very good, so spraying once would be enough for half day (it may be overpowering if spraying more than twice) . If someone tries this on at the shop, please wait for 30mins to sniff – do not judge this perfume just after you sprayed.
Probably it suits gentlemen who are over 30yrs old better. Can be worn for both office/day-offs.

I’ve owned 2 bottles of the original Chanel Pour Monsieur EDT.
The EDP (which has replaced both the original EDT and the later Concentrée version) bares a hint of similarity to the original EDT.
But for me, the Chanel EDP smells strikingly similar to Colonia Assoluta by Acqua di Parma. After about 3 hours, the EDP starts to get a little spicier than Assoluta.
If I didn’t already own Colonia Assoluta, I’d most definitely add Chanel’s Pour Monsieur EDP to my collection, because it’s divine.

It’s a real woman pleaser in my opinion:)

Very similar to Chanel Pour Monsieur EDT. The EDP starts off with a nice citrus scent. When the base notes start appearing the fragrance becomes slightly more woody than the EDT version. A little more cedar appears in the EDP. Silage is moderate and the fragrance lasts at least 8 hours on my skin. I have the EDT and the EDP of Pour Monsieur and like them both.
