Based on experience i only got a compliment on this on one instance and its not a mind blowing one as the person simply told me that the perfume i am wearing is nice.
This i would attribute to the fact that i know being a 90’s scent this is already something that is familiar with almost everyone who are inclined to fragrances. I remember smelling this first from people i don’t know personally so I’m not able to ask for the name of the cologne. I was in search of its name for the longest time and when i got the chance to smell it again and confirm through my olfactory memory that it is polo sport by ralph lauren i was so happy that finally i will get to enjoy the scent i have been wishing to be my signature scent for my lifetime.
Unfortunately the outstanding sillage is no more present and perhaps being a classic cologne people already grew out of it, Also for the price range it is something not worth keeping considering the performance of the product nowadays.
Would that change my perception of this cologne from being loved to dislike? No i will forever love the scent but i wont buy this fragrance again.

Oh my. This is a walk down memory lane. This is basically what every guy smelled like when I was a teen. It’s fresh and pleasant, so I can understand why it was so popular. Sadly, I can’t remember the last time I smelled this on someone. Might just have to find a bottle for my son or my fiance.

It’s gonna be hard to take the nostalgia goggles off for this one, cause this was my dad all throughout my childhood. Even 20 years later, he’s never quite varied much from good old Polo Sport.
I can see why: it’s a likeable, unpretentious scent, very much in that 80’s fruity-marine fougerr vein of stuff like Aspen and Cool Water, but with just a bit more oomph. Almost like a hippy-surfer variant on the theme.
My father, a bit of a wild child himself (and a surfer in his youth), pulled it off perfectly.
If you’re a laid back, friendly kind of cool, give it a try

Bought this little baby 10 years ago, still have the same bottle and I still love it! Airy, minty goodness with seaweed and lavender. Lasts 8-10 hours with a few feet of projection.

Nearly two decades after discovering this little gem I finally decided to get a bottle. It’s a little fresh. I think saying a little fresh would be like saying that Antarctica is a little nippy. To me, it smells like having come out of the shower fresh for the day and the best thing it’s in a bottle. A morning/afternoon fragrance.
    Sillage – 7/10
    Longevity – 6/10
    Scent – 7/10

So I finally pulled the trigger, and ordered a 125 ML vintage version (Batch code tells it’s from 2002) from eBay. Fingers crossed!
This is my FIRST TIME EVER scent. This is what I lost my fragrance virginity to. This is my first love.
I was gifted RL Polo Sport in 2000, along with its incredible deo-stick. Now let me tell you this, even the deo-stick was as potent as a cologne. No kidding. And yes, just like many other fragrances, RL Polo Sport kind of died with the reformulations. I remember the scent very clearly, that it wasn’t your typical blue aqua juice.
This is why I trust all the reviews on vintage Nautica’s Voyage, and can envision that being a very rich scent (even today it is but…) back in the days.
In 90s and early 00s, the fresh-citrus-aquatics were definetely strong. Now when you hear these words like fresh, aqua etc., it sounds bad, referring to light, gym-wear skin scents.
I’m now hoping to update my emotional review once I see again my first love, and write down the differences.
Note: I have used the new formulation (2 bottles) so I’m confident to make comparison. Again, fingers crossed!
Update: After 2 weeks use of the Cosmair bottle (dates back to ’02) I must admit I am a bit disappointed with the performance but very satisfied with the scent. Either I was too emotional about being positive about the longevity, or the fragrance did not age well. It could even be that Cosmair 00s formulation is already degraded one. It does not seem to make much difference than the current bottle in terms of performance (I get around 5 hours before it fades almost completely), but there is definetely a difference of roundness and depth. Long story short, get the vintage one if you can find at reasonable prices, otherwise current formulation is not a total suck up.

My favorite of the fragrances I tried today; sweet and home-y, definitely something you can throw on after daily activities (or in preparation for them) and feel clean, dry and pampered.

    ★★★★★
I have reviewed this fragrance before, but since I purchased a vintage (Cosmair) bottle that is getting harder and harder to find, I needed to be more elaborate straight away.
Let me start by saying that I have tried (and own) many -m a n y- summer themed fragrances, both niche and designer. Let me name a few: Profvmvm – Aqva Di Sale, Profumi del Forte – Tirrenico, Lili Bermuda – South Water, Kenzo Pour Homme, Bvlgari – Aqva & Aqva Marine, Tom Ford – Oud Minerale & Soleil Blanc, CK – Escape, Puig – Aqua Quorum etc…
Nothing, and I mean it, nothing manages to provide the profile of an ideal summer fragrance like Polo Sport, which is a scent that is invigorating, aloof & classy, easy to wear but with enough depth to be alluring and distinctive at the same time.
I can’t describe how it smells like by naming notes, but I can tell you that to me it evokes images of a swimming pool, sea spray, 90s inflatable toys and an abstract image of a sunny tennis court.
I was desperate to find the vintage version again, since the current formula is a failure. I was using Aqua Quorum for a while as a substitute, but it is not the same quality of a fragrance, it lacks the class and originality of Polo Sport and -more importantly- the nostalgia.
The amount of compliments this one gets me proves that this perfume does what a perfume should do: evoke a memory & make you and those around you feel good. A perfume that is often labeled as synthetic, generic and boring by perfume enthusiasts, which proves that snobs are far more than actual perfume reviewers. I’m glad Tania Sanchez agrees with me in The A-Z Guide.
The 90s were all about the uplifting and summer fresh, and this little gem is the king of it all. You don’t need any niche scent that claims to contain 100% real ambergris or seaweed extract to be your summer companion, you just need a scent that has a solid and distinctive concept, and in this case, you get a scent that doesn’t smell like seaweed, or citrus, or sand, but more like an abstract vision of what a man smells best during the summer.
Distinctive, suitable for all occasions and classy, only in its Cosmair edition.
Thank you, Harry Fremont, for your vision and for giving me the best olfactory memory of the 90s.

The fave scent of desperate teen boys everywhere – apparently so terrified of their pubescent BO that they bathe in it. It’s the fragrance equivalent of a frat-party hangover – loud, chemical, and leaves you with a headache and a sillage wake that you’ll need several showers/runs through the laundry to get rid of. If I never have to smell it again, it will be too soon.

A classic I still wear every now and then, even though it gives me this strong urge to dust off my old JNCO jeans.

90’s in a bottle. I have a lot of designer & niche fragrances, but I always come back to this one. Great choice to wear Polo Sport when the temperature is hot. Ladies love the smell.

Used to bathe in this before middle school dances. 20+ years later they’ve definitely reformulated the hell out of this, but it still captures the essence of what I remember it to be. I find it has some of the abstract concepts from Rugby including cut grass and horse manure. (In a non-offending way, of course).

Clean, fresh, bit of sweetly masculine.
Bought this again of a recalling my past time when i was a bit younger ha ha ha..
Got good comment from my female co worker, last sunday afternoon in the middle of team building event.
My wife also said this frag is so fresh but sporty.
    Cant resist to reSpray more….

Like others, I bought this recently more out of nostalgia, as this was my first “signature” cologne (and deodorant) in the mid to late 90s. Still smells mostly the same, the lemon/lavender/mint opening is really uplifting and original in my mind. The dry down is my favorite part. I (like others) remember more seaweed back in the 90’s, but I see less of it as an improvment as I always used find the sea grass smell a little off.
If your want to smell fresh and clean, this is the best in my mind. It’s strong and last all day…still love it..
I guess the question is…would you prefer the new polo blue EDP aqua or the vintage vibe of Polo Sport? Kinda liking the latter right now even though I like the former a lot too…

  18. :

Yes, I am a female , but truly love this scent on me. It’s very sporty and clean. This is one of the very first scents I owned when I first got into perfumes. It’s very strong and long lasting. You can tell it’s from Ralph Lauren.

My favorite sport scent. I’ve been wearing it since the year it was launched. My current bottle is from a Jan. 2017 batch according to checkfresh.com. So the good news is that it’s still obviously in production and the scent is very true to the original formulation. The standard by which all “sport” fragrances should be judged 🙂

This was one of my very first fragrances in HS in the mid 90’s. Still love it and own it today. Don’t wear it as much but brings back so many memories like fragrances can do. Love to just smell the bottle and reminisce. Epitome of the “soapy clean” scent imo.

  23. :

This one reminds me of the time I fell off my horse knocking myself unconscious. As I drifted in and out the fresh smell of aldehydes with greens and artemisia wafted through my nostrils. I recall just as I began to smell fresh spicy oranges with Ginger Rogers I awoke on a grass field to the sound of horse hooves hitting the ground all around me. I asked a chap on a horse carrying a mallet what he was doing, “Polo Sport” he replied as his horse ran over me like in the Chariot racing scene in Ben Hur with Chuck Heston. I woke up to see my __ in a cast as a nurse was signing her name on it, I notice she wrote her email too, this Polo Sport EDT is similar to the Sport Polo, only less pain

They don’t make’em like they used to. This is how a Sport fragrance should be: striking and powerful with ample depth. A gorgeous cologne that I am happy to get reacquainted with.

This stuff has been one of my favorites since the 90s, and it never fails to get compliments. Of all Polo fragrances, this is the one that I will always have; although some of the other frangrances by that house are quality, I can take them or leave them. But this…this is one that my collection will NEVER be without. To the younger men out there – if you want to begin being a lady killer from an early age, invest in Polo Sport.

  28. :

I’ve bought a 5 ml decant of polo sport because I was skeptical about it
First, it’s a big blast of mint when sprayed (a reminder of stinky men room at the gym…LOL) Then all the flower notes are appearing with a background of an airy fragrance made by the aldehydes.so good longeviy (6-7h)
Day wearing, mostly casual after the gym, work, office….maybe (go light)
suitable for all age but very manly
    7/10
Sad, it is now harder to get, I would buy a small bottle to let in my gym bag. But I will enjoy this scent until the decant is gone 🙂

One of the first real fragrances I purchased as a man. Synthetic for sure but very good. I really enjoy this frag. In this day, Im not sure its worth the asking price though as it sure is synthetic. That said its one of my kids favorite fragrances with the other being Dior Homme Cologne 2013.

I had stopped using this a few years back, as I found the blend at the time a little overly chemical smelling, but, I’ve just acquired a new bottle, which smells just as I remember it. Whether it’s been successfully reformulated, or I just had a bad bottle, I would now recommend this hugely, the mint is just wonderful, so fresh, and manages somehow to catch a snapshot of the 90’s. Have loved getting back into it, great fragrance.

I love these 90’s sporty fragrances. They contain such a distinctive masculinity that scents nowadays are lacking.
This scent definitely reminds me of Cool Water – Rather, this is what Cool Water SHOULD HAVE smelled like. I get a more “blue” color with this where I get a more “green” color with Cool Water. Still very similar, but I prefer this.
Distinctive 90’s masculinity all the way!

    ★★★★★
There is a sea of sport and lightweight fragrances, a sea full of similar smelling modernized scents. Ralph Lauren Polo Sport is the only sport fragrance that smells sporty and has an unmistakable character.
Minty aldehydic opening invigorates and literally wakes you up with a play on citrus and lavender, leaving you with a trail of fresh bitterness. As it progresses, seaweed and other green and woody notes make it greener and woodier, while a subtle sweetness is singing in the background. Musk is slightly apparent in the drydown, but the scent stays fresh until the end. Very thoughtful and genuine blend which as a result is more of a feeling than several distinguishable notes.
The vintage Polo Sport that I own has a longevity of 6 hours with good sillage for the first 1-2 hours. The main difference with the current formula is the depth, which the current one lacks.
Unique, serves it’s purpose, boyish sporty and fresh. The staple of the 90s for me, and always a go-to during spring and summer fragrance!

True.Polo Sport of yesteryrs is no match to the Polo Sport of the present albeit fragnance is the same but alas the longevity’s gone with the time.Wish I cd lay my hands on the older one !

I used to wear this is my late teens, back in 1999. The females loved it. Then it disappeared for a few years. When it came back on the market I was made up and went out and bought some straight away. Unfortunately the re-release simply isn’t the same. It doesn’t project the same and simply doesn’t last. the old one used to last all night and even to the next morning. What I wouldn’t give for some of the original.

  42. :

    5 out of 5

I have only just became acquainted with Polo Sport in the last few days after somehow ignoring it over these last 20 years or so. But I must say I’m very impressed with it.I get its orange, lemon and mint notes immediately,in fact I seem to get more mint in the opening five minutes than anything else, but that is not a criticism as it is very pleasant. The middle notes which include ginger, geranium and jasmine seem to drift on an ocean of pleasantness until eventually after about 45 minutes the dry down finally decides to kick in with sandalwood, cedar and musk. It has great longevity and a strong and vibrant sillage. It may be a bit grey at its temples, but so is the author of this review, in fact I’m almost fully grey, but have no fear, Polo Sport is well worthy of its own chapter in the history books of men’s fragrances.

“The Perfume For Eternal Youth” ****
I adore this stuff. It has balls.
Some people may not understand, but this is how aquatics should be. Surfing waves, California Dreamin…long holidays in the beach, our teenage group playing at night around the fire…
    A memories trigger.

This was my signature scent for years, but im reaching 40s(gulp..can;t believe it myself!) soon. After reading all the comments here, i really miss Polo Sport! Its readily available here in Singapore, and the price never dropped despite in being ‘outdated’. One thing that i find amiss is that the lack of people calling this an aquatic-its typical aquatic scent for me anyway. I just ordered a bottle of Kenzo Pou homme and cK Eternity Aqua for the all year round summer climate here…but i really miss Polo Sport! :(( Its THAT good!
People who find this strong/repulsive/headache inducing, should not smell it on themselves, but rather on someone else to appreciate the lingering scent trail the wearer leaves behind. And the mood he evokes-feeling of freshness, positivity and playfulness all come to mind. This was a compliment magnet for me.
This is a must have for me..Screw it, getting one tomorrow!
OH shoot! I just realised this is my second comment on the same page-another testament to how much i love this perfume.

This is one of the 4 men frangrances I can still clearly recall from memory and remember how they smell. Obviously any of them reminds me of a different crush in my teen years.
Polo Sport in particular is the first male scent that ever got my attention. One of my school mates wore this, and has helped a lot to draw my attention to him.
I remember it to be very fresh (aquatic, not citrusy) but spicy at the same time and overall unique but really pleasant.
I’ve read a couple of reviews here that say that nowadays the scent is more “chemical”, but I suppose this has happened to many of the designer / mainstream perfumes.
Anyway, I have very lovely (and sexy) memories of this one.

  47. :

    5 out of 5

I have been addicted to this scent since I was a youngster. This absolutely is my Number One amongst masculine Eaux de Toilette! IMHO, it is second to none. My signature scent without a doubt.
The fragrance is exceptionally long lasting (on my skin, it will hang on even 12 hours) and is characterized by the sillage that certainly is greater than the so-called average in the case of mainstream juices.
Incidentally, women really like it. Obviously, when a man in their neighbourhood sprays himself with Ralph Lauren Polo Sport.

  48. :

    3 out of 5

I worked as a lifeguard from my mid teens to mid 20’s. This scent is a great chlorine/ salt water combo with pineapple and seaweed notes that settles into a salty beachwood.
I have no idea why Fragrantica doesn’t have a “water” note option for this one.
Mint as a the top note is confusing. I think people are confusing it with ozone.

  49. :

    4 out of 5

Fresh, powerful, clean aquatic that is timeless. Its a big compliment getter for me and i will always have a sniff of it when i see it in the shops. I am too old to be wearing it these days, but the way it smells projects the idea of a nice, clean, young, sporty and fashionable person. Davidoff can’t hold a candle to the awesomeness that’s PoloSport. The only connection to AquaCuorom i see is that they were both aquatics, but Polo Sport was different and much classier. LOVE THIS! Its still easy to find here in Singapore, maybe coz the weather is more suited for this type of scents.
P.S. Yes, there has been some reformulations but its still a very good and sporty scent. Many a girl have fallen prey to it while on me! =P

  50. :

Did I actually used to wear THIS? That was my initial thought upon inner arm test spray, at a Ralph Lauren outlet store no less. Having a sample spray of “Cartier Roadster” on my other arm (from another store) didn’t help Polo Sport’s case any.
I recall my last wearings of over 5 years ago having a definite fresh, minty scent to it. This latest version had a more synthetic, slightly darker lean to it.
Projection was light-moderate, scent was pretty much gone after 2 hours. Although still available at some stores as the least expensive Lauren fragrance, I’d pass on this, and pay a bit more for Polo Blue, etal.

  51. :

This is a true masterpiece! Even though it might be a little out of date it remains a true classic and an absolute modern genuine masculine cologne. It smells amazing from the minute you put it on and it grows character as time passes by in a balanced mellow kind of way. In my opimion they dont make colognes this way anymore. Draws many compliments smells like a modern confident man! by far the best of Ralph Lauren’s cologne’s.. 10/10!!

  52. :

    5 out of 5

I really shouldn’t be saying this but “YUCK” what a synthetic mess!! It starts off so repulsive and dries into a headache inducing, almost pure mint/aldehyde perfume! I couldn’t stand it on my hand, went to scrub it after 2 hours cz I wanted to wait for the drydown, but just couldn’t take more than 2 hours of this torture.
Synthetic to the point of smelling like plastic!!! Utterly dreadful perfume and utterly boring bottle and a plastic sprayer that may come off any second!
Really disappointed by this… Btw… This was a new bottle filled with the reformulated juice… Did not smell the original so I can’t really judge how it was but this is what it became!!!

  53. :

My parents bought this for me on my 10th birthday when it first came out. It was an excellent starter fragrance. It was such a great gift and I have fond memories with this one. I probably didn’t finish the full bottle until late high school. I think this is a great fragrance for a young beginner. Not so much for an adult.

  54. :

    5 out of 5

This is an all time classic for me. This scent summons up my whole 8th and 9th grade year. And that is “Fresh”. I had the J’s with a fresh pair of Fubu Jeans and Fubu Shirt with this on the skin to compliment it. Loved this scent during summer school of 98 and 99. These Los Angeles Valley temperatures were killing and this cologne kept me cool and fresh. so dope. i miss this scent.

  55. :

    3 out of 5

Not one of the best perfumes out there but decent and nice if you dont want to get bored by your favorite perfumes. I think is better on a young man than a man in his 40s or in his 50s. Good scent, nice projections and has a good longevity. A mediocre to good scent that is good if your were it on summer days.

  56. :

    4 out of 5

Bbjr is right on about the reformulation. The original was a great seaweed and aldehyde scent in the vein of Aqua Motu meets Nautica. This new reformulation is a disaster all the way around, you would be better off buying one of the cheap knockoff versions of it at Big Lots that at least somewhat recaptures the essence of the original with the seaweed front and center and though it may only last a couple fleeting hours, at the end of the day the 3.50 you paid for that was still a better wear than the reformulation, which has a very high and unreasonable MSRP for such an outdated and growingly irrelevant release.

  57. :

    3 out of 5

The reformulated version by Luxury Products is not even close to the original version by Cosmair. The original is a perfect spicy summer fragrance than lasts forever. The reform is gone within 2 hours and you have to get past the cloying opening that doesn’t smell anything like the original. Some reformulations are just fine, this one is a massive failure at capturing what was a great sport fragrance. If you can find a bottle by Cosmair, buy it, fast!

The Original Polo Sport.. A great fragrance that we will all miss…
One of the classic fragrance designers, Ralph Lauren, has produced a number of scents we have grown to love. It is too bad that some of these fragrances have run their course and “put out to pasture” – so to speak. Polo Sport is one of these fragrances that became a classic, but with time, has become increasingly hard to find. Perhaps it, too, has been discontinued. I recently purchased this fragrance online and could hardly await arrival of the scent that became popular in the mid-90s – as a mid-40s guy (and still roguishly handsome) – I remember this time period fondly…
Out of the bottle Polo Sport presents a complexity of notes, but settles into simplicity of citrus, fruity, and “woodsy” notes. A classic scent that is breathes clean, fresh, and distinguished. Well done, Mr. Lauren..!! While the longevity and projection/sillage of this new bottle is average, it seems that bottles produced in the late 90s or early 00s, the fragrance lasted longer with greater sillage. There have been comparisons to younger siblings, “Red, White, and Blue” and “Polo Blue Sport” – I am not sure I get those same notes. Each are great fragrances, but very much different than this blend.
Polo Sport has plenty of “Wow Factor” (compliments from the opposite sex) potential. The first day I wore this, I did not receive any compliments, but due to it’s fresh and clean wake, the potential is there. One of the beauties about Polo Sport is the versatility or flexibility – perhaps tailored more for Spring and Summer, I feel confident the fragrance can be worn any time of year and for any occasion. It also can be a favorite for all ages – those of us who grew up with Polo Sport and the younger audience who want to feel clean and fresh.
The bottle is an exceptional and classic design – typical Ralph Lauren.. As mentioned, I purchased this online. That said, the packaging is average at best. I, generally, am not a “conspiracy theory” type of guy, but I have pondered the thought of authenticity of this purchase. (I will add the purchase was through a very reputable source..) Regardless, the packaging is average or modest.
Speaking of the purchase, Polo Sport can still be found moderately priced. My final tally of Polo Sport is 4.3 stars out of 5. Yes, there may be better fragrances out there – even I have those that rank higher – but Polo Sport is truly a classic fragrance that I enjoy. I highly recommend adding to your collection – or for us 40+ more distinguished gentlemen (and I use that term ‘loosely’..), replenishing our cologne cabinet with a new bottle of Polo Sport.

it indeed really smells like aqua quorum by antonio puig and the weirdest thing is that they launched the same year according to given info; also, polo sport is much more expensive than quorum.. why? plus the given notes are different.. ?!?!! both kinda discontinued?

    Dear Reader,
I without shame, say I did owned this perfume in my lifetime too.
I know this blue guy (Polo Sport) practically was every guy’s friend and why not he made a lot of us smell hot.
This sporty fragrance is very bold and was the trend scent type of its day that a lot of designers wanted that aquatic sport type of scent that still carried a air of style with animal magnetism and Ralph Lauren achieved that.
It has a bold fresh basil/lavender and citrus air with the center of wood musk that is very manly and has good staying power, its not like new scent that vanishes within 10 minutes to half hour, this blue guy kept it strong all night long with a lot of complements left and right by others, it gives that air of Adonis if your chemistry bonds well with this fragrance.
I haven’t worn this since I was a teen and it was great gift to be given . RL’s Sport for men is still is a good gift to a guy who likes fresh manly sporty fragrances, definitely good for night or day wear.

Well, this is my signature scent (should I be embarrassed to admit that?) so I guess I should review it.
It was actually my older brother’s signature scent first. He was the first one to buy it back in the mid 90s. It was all the rage, I suppose, at Club USA and The Limelight and other clubs where he used to hang out on weekend nights. Me, I was more of a stay-close-to-home kinda’ guy: my weekends were spent at home or at the gym or at my friends house or drinking in the park or at whichever local bar was letting teens in that week. But one still had to smell good right? And since the fragrance was free (I was stealing his stash one schpritz at a time), why not?
Well, I got hooked. And I didn’t have to force myself to like it–this was a great scent; and it still is. I may “evolve” to the very similar Polo Blue Sport when my current bottle of Polo Sport is done but the smell of this will always remind me of…well, ME!
So what is Polo Sport? It’s…clean. But more than that, it’s the feeling of going from dirty to clean–like a fresh shower on a summer day after a long morning at the gym. You just feel like, “ahhhhh. Now I can interact with other humans.” Was that a nebulous enough description?
To be more specific, it opens up with a minty citrus deliciousness mellowed by seaweed (nowadays they call it “sea grass”) that dries down to lavender. And don’t think “sushi” when you hear seaweed, think “aquatic”. Yeah, the aldahydes are there throughout but they don’t scream “synthetic” (it’s no more synthetic than any other scent out there; i.e., they all are); rather, they scream, “clean”. They are what puts a soapy smell in soap and they are what puts the “clean” smell in this scent. The other florals are in the middle with the lavender; the musk is more subliminal.
All in all, it was a masterpiece when it was introduced and IMHO, it’s a masterpiece today. Proof of its masterpiece credentials lie in the fact that the nose here is Harry Fremont (CK One, Kenneth Cole Black) so don’t think of this as a flanker in today’s sense (where houses make ten similarly-named spinoffs if they hit a home run with one scent). This was a flanker, but it was a flanker before flankers were called flankers. In other words, it was not an attempt to capitalize on the name (Encre Noire Sport? Really?), it was a purposeful (and very successful) attempt to capitalize on a scent by mak
