Description
“The Illuminum collection is for those days when you are in the mood for something exquisitely simple and stylish.”—Michael Boadi. The collection embraces 16 fragrances categorized in four olfactory groups (citrus, floral, oud and musk). Each group consists of four scents, while each of the fragrances contains eight carefully selected ingredients.
Piper Leather is a sensual and spicy leather scent containing notes of black pepper, coriander, leather, olibanum and civet.
It is available in bottles of 50 and 100 ml.
In addition to creating the composition, Michael Boadi designed all the packaging as well as the logo and the branding.
Piper Leather was launched in 2011.

An amazing leathery lightly spiced perfume , enhanced with a touch of divine olibanum resulting a non harshing soft leather potion ; one of my favorite leather based perfumes with good performance and joy to wear , yes it is similar to “O” from blood concept but spices makes leather lighter and smoother than mate ; i found quality of used materials is fine and high , suggested at least to try especially if u r looking for new presentation of leather perfumes

I seem to like fragrances with a leather accord; this is the third one that I have purchased just for that note. Piper Leather smells sweet to my nose, I definitely get the jasmine, coriander and pepper to start, then the balsams and that awesome leather kick in. I vaguely smell the civet note but most likely as it seems to be present in quite a few of my favourite fragrances! The fragrance notes describe this fragrance as a unisex one and I agree – it does have that sweet side to keep the leather smell “clean” to my nose, but most definitely, it could be worn by anyone. The sillage is awesome, I can clearly smell this one 8 hours after application and a little goes a long way. If I feel the need to “dirty” this fragrance up a bit – drag it round the stable, if you will – I wear it with a small spritz of Illuminum’s Scarlet Oud. Then I’m off for a night out!

This fragrance to me smells very unique. It opens up with a peppery metallic soapy vibe. Im able to smell the scent for 8 plus hours and projects well. I think this scent is versatile and unisex. It’s more masculine beacause of the drydown which shows the leather a bit.
Nothing smells like this and it’s definitely a buy for me.

Like the peppier, brighter younger sibling of Tom Ford’s Tuscan leather, an ashtray leather that’s a bit soapy and peppery. Sweetens up after a while to a semi-translucent bat-wing leather, still scruffy but pleasant. I recommend it.

Very good fragrance for daywear, casual, not too much and not too little. Classy in its own way. The opening of black pepper gives it the crisp that you need on a misty morning, and the drydown of leather olibanum and musk balance the whole blend.
For my personal taste it smells too common. 7/10
Ps: wild tobacco much more unusual and sensual… Give it a go!

I found a forgotten sample of it in my box..I love leather, especially the smooth and slightly spicy scent of a saddle. Illuminum Piper Leather is the smell of leather seats in a new Ferrari car..Powerful, full leather , breathable enough because of spices that tame the oily dry down of leather. That’s only the beginning..The dry down is a bit dirty and very manly. To me it smells like a well worn old leather jacket. Slightly spicy and a bit musty..Prefer it definitely on a man. Average lasting power and low silage.

Opening is pepper and jasmine, however if it wasn’t in it’s name I would not have thought about leather. When you know that is there you can get it pretty quickly but the leather note itself is very refined. I can’t stop to think that there’s also some cardamom hidden in it.
Smell wise it reminds me of a woman’s classic but I don’t remember the name of it.
Fresh, clean and unisex Piper Leather it is.

This is my favourite scent from the illuminum range. The opening is peppery but fresh. However the drydown for me is the highlight of this fragrance, the Olibanum is prominent and is very pleasant to my nose. I haven’t smelled Cuiron by Helmut Lang but if this smells similar to something so revered then that’s a big plus. I would agree with many here that the ‘leather’ in the name is deceiving as it’s hard to pick out the leather note. I’ve smelled many leather fragrances such as TF Tuscan Leather and they have a much heavier and richer leather smell. Piper Leather smells cleaner, almost like a spicy aquatic so its much more wearable and less offensive than typical leather scents.

Rather than being the perhaps intended smell of a sports car, this, to me, is the smell of how it feels being *in* a sports car. Or, less imaginatively, of shaving foam. Shiny metallic armour guards any leather, and a brisk peppery smack whizzes past in the illusion of speed. To describe this as a leather fragrance is a bit of a stretch, really, and not only is it distinctly unleathery, but it does not seem to last very long, and the civet it cites as a note doesn’t really appear at all unless you put enough on to spoil your appetite and even then it isn’t obvious; I think there’s probably more civet in a Kinder Egg. Perhaps it was even just a marketing ploy to get people talking about something that is otherwise rather dull and in fact somewhat aquatic/ozonic/sporty/uninspiring. I think this fragrance is rather a dud and although I may wear it occasionally to the office or maybe the gym it isn’t something I’d choose to illustrate anything exciting going on in my life, which is rather disappointing as I expect more from niche perfumery. // Having worn this for several days in a row, I can update that I think I *did* find the civet but it was whispering and whimpering and then it shuffled off quietly. This fragrance has terrible lasting powers and for such an expensive product I think that’s unacceptable. And the name is misleading.

Cuiron. Piper Leather is almost a literal reproduction of the soft peppery-suedey accord of the sadly discontinued Helmut Lang’s Cuiron. If for a few aspects it may sound as a total rip-off, now that Cuiron have become extremely rare and you have to pay up to $250 for a bottle, Piper Leather is the only plausible alternative available on the market. Nice projection and good lasting power.
If you already own the Helmut Lang, stick with it, otherwise Piper Leather is a valid alternative.
Rating: 7/10

Another mistake made by this maison in my opinion. Piper Leather opens up with some pepper and other spices mixed with civetta in a combination that has no appealing effect on me. I was unable to detect a bright, easy to spot leather note in this one. If you’re looking for a leather based fragrance please avoid this one. Do not trust the name of this fragrance. The notes in here are so unbalanced that you will regret blind buying it.

I think Tommy Bahama (original) would be a wiser choice if you’re going for this look- it’s a more-complex rendition of the black pepper/coriander sparklies atop sexy base. Or Dirty English, for that matter.

The pepper and olibanum are very strong to my nose, so strong that I have to really concentrate to pick out the leather, which is a shame. There are many leather fragrances that I appreciate but this isn’t one of them. Personally I think this is more of a man’s scent than a woman’s, because the pepper and olibanum make it sooooo heavy. There’s little trace of the animalic side which the listed civet and leather notes suggest.
I have found all the Illuminum perfumes I’ve tried to be a little clumsy. In my opinion most of their fragrances are either brash and loud or so fleeting that they vanish within a couple of hours, but your mileage may vary.
