Description

Paging Dr. Who Fans! Remember the episode of ‘Dr. Who ’, where the doctor flies into the future and stumbles across a giant advertisement for a new perfume, with Amy Pond as the face of the new fragrance, and the slogan “For the Girl Who Is Tired of Waiting”?

Now, the wait is over!

With Petrichor, we’ve captured that very special earthy scent created when rain falls on dry soil, so you can step right into your own TARDIS without Amy’s password!

For the girl or boy who’s tired of waiting, Demeter’s Petrichor fragrance allows you to travel through time and space straight to the refreshing smell of earth after rain. Petrichor was launched in 2017.

This smelled okay at first, a tiny bit of earthy goodness, but there was a musky dry down for me. Not exactly petrichor. I like some of Demeter’s other dirty fragrances better.

Watery notes are much stronger than earth note which feels like a shadow. Not exactly the smell of earth after rain but quite a good aquatic scent with good moderate perfotmance.

This one smells great! It’s not exactly a true “after a summer rain” petrichor smell, but close enough I suppose. I wore it a couple times and it was nice. It was subtle enough to forget I had it on, catch a whiff, and wonder what the interesting smell was before remembering. I am enjoying using my sample bottle up by spraying it on the shower curtain before taking a shower. The bathroom still smells like it after a few days, so this is a very long-lasting scent.

I just received a mini splash bottle of this and immediately LOVE it! To me, it truly does manage to capture that wet-grass-after-the-rain scent magnificently. I don’t know how Demeter did it but it is (to MY nose) precisely as the company alleges. The slight element of damp earth grounds the sweetness of the wet grass vibe and the combination is absolute perfection.
Additionally, I find Petrichor to be completely gender neutral, smelling not like a man or a woman (or any human, for that matter) but of one incarnation of the Earth’s breath itself.
I use this nearly daily, having poured about 20% of the splash bottle into the oil I have in a spray bottle that I use immediately following a bath or shower and prior to blotting dry with a towel. No matter what fragrance I wear that day, the slight, skin-scent amount of Petrichor never clashes and, in fact, can sometimes enhance the ‘main’ fragrance I choose for that day.
Everyone – family, friends, all ages, male and female – who has smelled this immediately wants to know where it can be purchased (often not even bothering to inquire about cost).
It’s a unique, but gorgeous, scent for I’d say just about anyone.

Wikipedia describes Petrichor as the scent that emanates when rain falls on dry soil. Soil-dwelling bacteria release a compound, geosmin, as a by-product of metabolic activity during storms. Ozone from lightening may also accompany this characteristic scent.
Ever since trying Atelier de Geste’s Stones, and La Curie Larrea’s stony allure, I’ve been fascinated by atmospheric rain redolence.
Parallel-tested with Demeter’s Thunderstorm, and the 2 torrential cloudbursts are nowhere alike. Thunderstorm is sharp greens, where Petrichor is calming leather. There’s also a hint of marine DNA from Demeter’s Salt Air casting a shadow in the background.
To my nose, Petrichor opens with bergamot and leather, with gradual outpour of white pepper, vetiver, elemi, and musk dry down. Leather reigns at the helm, in full command with one of the best longevities & linearity from the Demeter crew. Dare I say, in a blind smell-test, Petrichor could easily masquerade as a high-end designer fragrance like Acqua di Parma’s Colonia Oud. I hesitate to say that, simply because there’s no oud in Petrichor. But arguably, there isn’t any in the Acqua di Parma either, as it’s mostly a Leather cologne. But that’s beside the point. Slap on an Italian brand name, and Petrichor could easily grace the shelves of your neighborhood Neiman Marcus.
This is expensive rain, at Neiman Marcus.

Intersted to try this. Great to see the heritage of capturing the essence of wet earth through Mitti (Earthen) attar being passed over for the modern cologne connoisseurs. It isn’t an innovative concept but a truly great way of bringing back childhood memories for all with a definite wider availability.
