Launched in 2016, Papiro was created to pay tribute to the scent of cedar, which is the signature of Amberfig’s perfumer. It has become his favorite note because it reminds him of the smell of old books. In fact, the inspiration came from the aging of a book, as he himself told me in an exclusive interview, held in 2015.
But do you know what papyrus is? The papyrus became known as the precursor of the paper in antiquity, much used by the Hebrews and Babylonians. It was obtained through the use of the white and spongy part of the Papyrus stem interior (Cyperus Papyrus), which is an aquatic plant with woody and dry smell. Once cut into thin strips, they were wetted, superimposed and crossed, to be pressed later. The sheet obtained was hammered, smoothed and glued alongside other sheets, in order to form a long ribbon that was then rolled up. The writing was parallel to the fibers.
This note is part of several fragrances known in perfumery, from Designers to High Perfumery brands. And in this creation of Amberfig, it does not exist, because the fragrance is not literal, but figurative. Here, ideas go far beyond the usual sense.
Papiro’s fragrance features notes of guava, Persian lime and sweet orange, on top. Then, the body carries notes of red cedar, plus cedars from Virginia, Texas and the Himalayas. In the base, the fragrance features notes of patchouli, oak moss and leather.
The result is beautiful and has a retro aspect. Although it does not have a fougère construction and is part of the fruity-woody groups, Papiro deceives easily. Those who feel its fragrance and don’t know its composition, can imagine a beautiful note of bergamot and state that the moss is there since the beginning. But it was only inserted into the base of the olfactory pyramid. The red cedar (also known as smelly cedar or apple cedar) has warm, woody and fruity nuances, very different from other cedars.
And just like the unfolding of the old papyrus, Papiro’s fragrance reveals itself gradually and mutant: at times, it looks like a green and mossy fougère of the 70’s, which has been modernized in some way; other times, it is sweet and oriental, with a juicy orange over a delicious geranium. On my skin, however, I did not feel the leather as much as I would like to.
In terms of projection and longevity, it is irreproachable. And incredible as it may seem, after hours on the skin, it reminds the smell of some old hardcover books. Just close your eyes and let the imagination free.

A masterpiece of the house, no doubt.
Papiro is an inspiration in a favorite note of David, cedar, one of mine too lol and here has all kinds.
The opening is fruity, feel guava and citrus chord accompanying adjunctive, orange or lemon perhaps believe that this tone is to match the red color of its heart.
The combination woody of several fused cedars, makes this heart really push, is bright, lit at the same spicy and warm, red cedar stands, it is velvety woody and even red, has something amazing and different which refers to varnish it, earring that looks like the soil of Mars, but all combine here in an exquisite way, making a living woody combination and in flames.
Base appears a comfortable touch. perhaps this leather nuance, stabilizing the previous woodsy tone while maintaining a distinctive refinement with the hint of moss, a unique aroma and undoubtedly the best at home.
