Orchid is the one that keeps me sampling until I can afford more; the one that pulls, keeps me sniffing, as if, eyes closed, one could breathe in some secret. At first, it seemed like magic; a flower that has no life outside of the alchemy in that dab of wax and oil — but should. A flower that should be real and isn’t. Then, I remembered. Bauhinia — the Orchid Tree — in my childhood backyard. Tall, its leaves like lilypads, the sky awash in blooms that shaded from palest violet-pink to dark, yes, orchid. Didn’t that same scent waft? Or is Orchid the scent of nostalgia? Spicy, a twilight sweetness that darkens at the edge, always elusive….
I don’t get gardenia — except perhaps tiare — nor the orange blossom main note. More like Aftelier’s version of jasmine — clean, fresh, less creamy, or indolic. Light, it doesn’t overpower, yet it lingers and doesn’t let go.

The friendly, approachable girl that is nice to everyone. She is beautiful, exotic, and fun. Makes an elegant dame youthful and a youthful lady elegant. Aftelier scents are all delicious and mouth watering. Gardenia can’t be bottled, but this is darned close without cloying sweetness.
