Description

Near Dusk, the new fragrance from actress Jennifer Aniston, is coming out in Summer 2015. The fragrance is the third of her beach and sun-kissed inspired fragrance collection, after debut Lolavie from 2010 and J from 2014.

“My first two fragrances are feminine and refreshing—they remind me of a day spent by the ocean. I love being on the beach at twilight, and with Near Dusk I wanted to recreate the relaxation of those fleeting moments of sunset. This fragrance captures that glowing feeling that comes over you as the sun sets and night falls,” said Jennifer.

The scent includes notes of salt, delicate flowers and a woody base. Developed by Jean-Marc Chaillan, it opens with accords of pink pepper, nectarine, coconut water and sea spray. The heart includes flowers of orange blossoms, jasmine and peony, based on musk, white amber, blonde woods and vanilla.

It is available as 10, 30 and 85 ml Eau de Parfum.

Online I found a 50% full roller ball for $1.50. So I would be stupid not to get it, right? This is a likable smell for summer nights. Definitely worth the dollar fifty. Will not repurchase but will finish it.

Salty lipstick. I read the reviews and expected a sexy coconut scent, but I don’t smell the coconut. It opens sharp synthetic, with a salty blast. I was intrigued as it settled onto my skin with an added musk & lipstick aroma. But then it was gone in about an hour. I would’ve enjoyed this if there was more coconut and it lasted longer. Though I think as far as salty perfumes go, CK Reveal does it better.

This has a beachy, clean-type smell to it….which may be great with another chemistry, but on me… it isn’t doing much.
This seems like a softer version of Womanity, because there is a slightly salty type ocean fragrance note which seems very similar to the chords in Womanity. If you like that type of fragrance, you will LOVE this one – and this could serve as your softer version of that fragrance.
This is a fragrance for someone who prefers a more natural scent.
(This was written when I had a summer cold, so the experience deepens when I’m feeling better).
    ————
Ok, the fragrance sits off the skin a few inches – and turns into an almost peppermint aromatherapy sea salt mixture that has a sultry earthy-beachy vibe to it. This is “clean” – and comes in as a full chord rather than having individual notes popping out – or playing out of line. If you’ve read my previous reviews, you’ll know that this is one of the tests for me to determine if a fragrance will make it into the category as a “signature fragrance’ or not.
This has a much softer earthy quality – similar to Alliage by Estee Lauder (but this is MUCH softer with less sillage)… and I still detect a certain note that is similar to that used in Womanity.
I like this better after about 30 minutes into it. The first blast of the spray is strong. You need time for this to set up on the skin to determine if it mixes well with your chemistry or not. So far, so good. I’m liking this a lot – now.
I agree with the other reviews that say that this is a fragrance that smells delicious – but not overtly so.
This is one that may be a good one to wear when you are still testing the waters and you don’t want to wear something that is overtly sexy or enticing. This may be a first date type fragrance – where you are still on the fence – and not completely sure if you want to draw a line in the sand and have things move into a “romantic” situation… or to be left as “just friends”. This is pleasant – but not overtly sexy or alluring.
It smells “blue” to me – like the ocean type vibe. I’m not sure that I would place this in the “purple” category – like the bottle suggests. It has a distinctly “OCEAN” vibe to it, which I really like and I’m drawn to.
On my skin, this is ok. I’m not completely crazy about it…. but it would suit the purpose of being clean and neutral… on days where I don’t want to call attention to myself – or to wear something that would be overtly feminine.
This is not a unisex fragrance – I don’t see a man wearing this… but it is also not sending a signal that you are openly available for romance.
This is just “to be”. That state of mind that you are supposed to arrive at when you have stopped chasing monkey mind in a meditation. Those of you who have taken transcendental meditation will “get this”… others, may not. This is neutral…gentle waves on the beach and sand. Nothing that rocks the boat – relaxing and totally neutral.
This may be “Peace” in a bottle.
    Beachy Peace.

Weak weak and hardly noticeable. Below average sent that last for about 5 minuets. Not worth the bargain price, it is weaker than a cheap body splash. This is not worth buying or spraying. Smh on saying this is a perfum it is just a money grab.

Aniston frag’s seem to be all fairly safe types of fragrances, and Near Dusk is no exception. A clean scent, yet there is also a slight warmth. I even (oddly) get a slight gingerbread scent when I first spray this, but that dissipates almost immediately.
A clean, comforting type of scent. My nose does not pick up a boatload of white floral like some reviewers describe, but just a warm clean scent. I seem to pick up the nectarine and amber more than others, based on the votes. The coconut is faint, and I’m not picking up much musk. Pleasant and light, if not good on longevity. Aniston definitely seems to have a pattern with her fragrances, nice, decent, fairly safe and inoffensive, but not long lasting. I guess at least at the inexpensive prices, I do not mind having to possibly re-spray and refresh as the day goes on, provided the day “allows” for it.
All in all, I like this one. I don’t think Ms. Aniston has created a fragrance yet that I don’t like. A great Summer and outdoorsy scent, in particular….I like it.

This was a blind buy for me at Ross. I figured 1 fl oz for 10 dollars wasn’t really too big of a risk. Plus, of course I glanced at reviews on here before I took the plunge. When I first took the cap off, I thought it smelled nice and clean. When I sprayed it though, it’s like a blast in your face- I’m guessing that’s probably the white florals. I dont want to offend anyone, but this smelled really old ladyish at first. HOWEVER, in the drydown, it’s everything that people are saying about it. A night beachy/marine scent. I mean, that’s all fine, but I have to go through almost an hour of super sharp smells to get to the pleasant stuff. I wouldn’t buy it again.
Oh, for those saying this is a “warm” scent to them, I get the opposite. Salty cool. If anyone has ever smelled the Bvlgari Aqva Marine for men, this smells like the woman’s version.

This is a gorgeous clean, incredibly soft, and ever so slightly sweet scent!
I absolutely love this but if only it had a stronger projection, I think the cold weather here in Canada doesn’t help.
I don’t get any florals in this fragrance, but mostly a musky coconut with a clean sheets kind of feeling.
It’s like if you went to the beach and then came home and laid on your bed with some sunscreen still on your skin, it’s clean and inoffensive, something I’d wear at any time, any place.
I’ve sprayed it only an hour ago and I have to really dig my nose into my arm to smell it so it’s gonna be one of those “bathe myself in it before I’m out the door” fragrances.
It’s not like Beach Walk beachy, but a softer version with a tiiiny hint of aquatic notes.
I LOVE Versace Crystal Noir but the coconut disappears on my skin so I’m hoping to layer this and see how it goes!
    I’ll update in warmer months!

I just received a roller ball of this. I LOVE it! Love the coconut, musk, slightly sweet with just a touch of vanilla. I am so over flipping vanilla, seems like it’s in everything but Near Dusk has just a touch of it. Reminds me of sitting on the beach in Bora Bora watching the sunset. Great blind buy for me!

I layered my Versace Crystal Noir with Jennifer Aniston Near Dusk perfume and they go very well together! Both have the same Coconut, white floral creaminess to them so yummy but jenns adds that special sand salty flavor which is surprisingly captured in this. its like passing thru the white flowers before your feet touch the sand and then touch the warm beach water at night.
I summarize this perfume as a summer night at the beach vibe.
    Good longevity

This was a blind buy for me, and wow, I am so glad I have this in my collection. The coconut in this smells like it has been freshly harvested and bottled, along with a few drops of the ocean. Sweet vanilla, slightly oceanic/salty coconut goodness – I don’t get many of the floral notes, which I don’t mind, as the coconut is so beautiful and takes center stage. I’ve worn Near Dusk on a date, at work, in the winter, running errands, and while lounging at home. Such a versatile, lovely fragrance. One of my absolute favorites.

  11. :

    3 out of 5

My favorite fragrance from Jen’s line so far, very feminine, tropical and “beachy”. The coconut in it smells really creamy and pretty. Majority of the time, the coconut scent in many fragrance lines usually leaves a “plastic” smell on my skin. NOT this “Near Dusk”.
On the dry down, this one actually reminds me of “Woman” from Ralph Lauren which I really enjoy, launched in 2017, but even better, as I found this one in a 2.9 oz bottle online for around $20 🙂

  12. :

I agree with you Jen, this is my favorite fragrance of hers so far but I haven’t tried Chapter One yet, I have a feeling that could be a good one.

  13. :

    3 out of 5

I like this the best of all the Jennifer Aniston fragrances. I get mostly peony and coconut from it. Many people like J the best (the blue one) but the peony coconut and vanilla in this make it my favorite.

  14. :

    4 out of 5

One of my best blind buys ever. I’m not a fan of sweet fragrances to say the least. I prefer “cold” ones, even with a masculine note. But this one is truly outstanding. I can definitely smell these salty and marine tones. Cononut and white flowers are blending together smoothly. And it lasts very long. I sprayed my hair a bit in the morning, I washed it in the evening and I still can smell it a bit the next day in the afternoon.
    Highly recommended.

  15. :

    5 out of 5

There is something about celeb perfumes that have this weird note to me on the initial spray.
I can’t put my nose on it, but I can’t ignore it.
The dry down is lovely, but I’m not going to be able to keep this one.

  16. :

    4 out of 5

This was a blind buy based on reviews and I am so pleasantly surprised! Out of all the celebrity fragrances I own, this one is my favorite. I have to agree that this one will likely be her best-selling fragrance.
As others have mentioned, this smells like a high-end and not a celebrity fragrance. The notes are incredibly well done leading to a beautiful, sensual, and warm scent. I would have no qualms gifting this to anyone, as it appears to be the type of fragrance that could work with most all body chemistries.
If not well done, orange, coconut, and vanilla notes can come off smelling very cheap, sickly-sweet, and synthetic. The coconut, amber, vanilla, and orange blossom in this fragrance are simply beautiful.
The longevity is not that great, it doesn’t last a whole day without reapplying, so you may need to spray and re-spray your top. The sillage is also moderate unless you use a heavy hand with it.
This is well suited for summer weather, though I can see myself wearing it throughout the year.
There are very few perfumes in my arsenal that I’ve repurchased and this will be one of them.

  17. :

    3 out of 5

This is divine! I am so surprised and pleased.
This does not smell like a celebrity fragrance at all. It’s more like a high end designer fragrance. I get a beautiful jasmine with a very light tropical background. Very elegant and reserved. Nothing like the usual summer perfumes out there.
I regret not having tested this one sooner. The jasmine here is to die for.
If you are a white floral lover, you MUST test it!
This perfume is classy and calming at the same time without being boring or dated.
It would make a perfect gift for almost anyone. I think i will buy my mother a bottle of Near Dusk for her birthday.
For this price, i am also not afraid to encourage anyone to blind buy it.
Sillage is subtle but it still projects well enough. My only complaint is longevity, but you can’t have it all.
I think Near Dusk is a MUST among the celebrity perfumes, specially for people who usually don’t like celebrity fragrances.
Underestimate it at your own risk.

This is a soft, sweet musky floral. Close your eyes, and you are on the beach at night with a soft wind blowing. Light and lady-like. Love this.

  19. :

    4 out of 5

First, I have to say the longevity on this is pretty amazing. I wore this yesterday and this morning I can still smell it.
I think the “dark beach” smell was captured nicely. I get coconut, but not sickly sweet or overpowering. It complements & works with the marine and musk. I love Beachscape because its so fresh and personally it says beach to me. Having said that I think Near Dusk is probably going to be the best selling and most liked of her fragrances.

  20. :

    3 out of 5

I love how Near Dusk really does capture the dusky warmth of an evening at the beach. There is a creamy and powdery haze that’s dominant, but it’s still “clean”, the way anything washed over with seawater seems to be. The most identifiable scents to me are coconut milk, jasmine, and oceanic musk. There’s a sort of lilting lull between coolness and warmth, an ebb and flow like the sea, and a sweet star-anise-like tinge to it. The “marine” vibe is less salty air and more salty sand, driftwood, dunes. It’s comforting, down to earth, and luminous with life.
The funniest thing about it… my fiance and I were lying in bed this morning and I had him sniff my little tester paper of Near Dusk from last night… “It smells purple”, he reflected – how funny. He wasn’t at the store with me… nor did he know what scent this was… nor had he any idea of what the bottle looks like…

This is a lovely fragrance and very grown up. Its musky, beachy and spicy! This one is husband approved which is always a plus haha. This scent is more like what you would smell as the beach air flows over the flowers, grass and sand in the evening! I really love it! I love jennifer’s scents, I still need to collect the blue one.

  22. :

    4 out of 5

This is the only one of Jennifer Aniston’s scents that doesn’t just turn into boring dryer sheet/laundry detergent for me. I actually really love it and find it to be very well balanced for what it is. There is still the clean, fresh quality to it that characterizes all of her fragrances, but I do detect coconut, vanilla and white florals under the beach/marine/ozonic scent that gives it a summer vibe without screaming “pina colada” “sunscreen” or “aquatic bomb” Will be wearing this like crazy in the summer.

  23. :

    4 out of 5

Mmmmm. I adore coconut and can rarely smell it in perfume. This one is coconut, musk, and salt spray. It’s not too sweet at all. Lovely little perfume, would be very good for summer but honestly right now in winter it’s a nice little pick-me-up as well.

  24. :

    5 out of 5

I find that the notes together kind of smell like maple syrup! It’s not super sweet, but it has a woodsy kind of soft sweetness to it. I don’t find that the coconut is as pronounced as in other fragrances, thankfully (I am not a fan of the coconut note). I think it’s a very nice scent actually!

  25. :

I Love every Aniston fragrance so much !!
Lolavie is the perfect clean scent – It really does smell like laundry detergent…and I Love that.
J is a perfect marine vanilla scent…You just smell like you put on a luxuriuos body Lotion.
Near Dusk is a perfect datenight fragrance. Its more sweet and less clean than her First two. Nectarines,Pink Pepper and coconut make a very sensual scent, but its Not overpowering !

  26. :

I like beach escape better …this one is clean woody falls flat on my skin….Beach one is clean n femme ..this is one is ok , won’t buy it.

  27. :

I really like this fragrance and also, J by Jennifer Aniston. Wasn’t as impressed with Beachscape. Smells a little too much like fabric softener or laundry detergent.
Loved the comment from Nil3 about the ad photo. I thought the same thing when I saw it. The really funny thing was when I looked at the profile pic for Nil3, I immediately though you looked a lot like the actress/singer Anna Kendrick in your pic, and I mean that as a compliment.

I am surprised gardenia isn’t mentioned in the notes. This is the first thing I smell! Gardenia, citrus, woods a tiny bit of salty water. Beautiful!
Smells like a fantasy walk along a beach surrounded by a lovely garden.

  29. :

    3 out of 5

Never smelled this perfume. Would love to have it.
The only thing that’s bothering me about this add is Jennifer looking nothing like herself but much much more like one of the Olsen twins.

  30. :

    4 out of 5

I love this. Soft and sweet but in a sugar almond short crust pastry type of way. Not a candy sweet. It’s A light coconut vanilla breeze. To me it’s a little reminiscent of wild orchid by Beyoncé. With hopefully better staying power.
I realise everybody experiences everything differently. And our body chemistry obviously has a lot to do with it, but I have Alien also and don’t find anything about them to be similar. To me alien is a strong punchy ambery, woody jasmine that gets a little licoricey.
I love them both but personally wouldn’t put them in the same basket.
No offence to anybody saying they are similar as we all pick up different things in a fragrance. It’s all quite personal.

  31. :

    5 out of 5

This is very similar to Alien in a way. I love this scent. The salt and woods and coconut just totally do it for me. It has good silage and longevity. If you want a long lasting celeb scent that isn’t all fruit and flowers give this one a go. A fine example of an inexpensive scent that smells like a high dollar top shelf fragrance.
UPDATE: the more I wear this, the more I love it. This is the perfect beachy scent. Also, the longevity is incredible. I took a shower, went to bed and still smelled this on my skin in the morning.

  32. :

**My review is for the fine fragrance mist of this perfume**
This is a great summer scent!! The main notes I pick up are lots of jasmine, nectarine, vanilla with hints of coconut and musk. On me this is very long lasting…..longevity and sillage are both moderate on me and I really love this perfume!!!!!!

  33. :

    5 out of 5

This smells like a weaker Alien to me. I smell jasmine with amber and musk. It’s a night scent. Nice pick if you like Alien but it’s too loud for you. My boyfriend loves it. It doesn’t smell cheap in any way. I usually don’t go for celebrity scents, but I enjoy this. It’s even acceptable for dates in my opinion. I never would have guessed it has coconut or ocean water. It has a saltiness to it, but it’s not aquatic. Also, coconut is always synthetic on me, but not in this.

  34. :

    4 out of 5

Ohhh this is very nice. They used the coconut in a very nice, approachable way that seems quite natural. In a nutshell: Salty, musky vanilla with a pinch of coconut water and a pinch of the original fragrance. I also understand the Alien comparisons. It could be one of the more distant flankers! 🙂

  35. :

    4 out of 5

On me this smelled a lot like the original Skin Musk oil. Nice but too similar to something a lot cheaper.

Ok so I live in the UK and I was hunting for this for ages !
I finally found a bottle of this for sale in a UK retailer. So the box is very pretty with the purple white ombre. The bottle is a beautiful purple colour and my favourite colour is purple so I guess that’s why I love it.
This fragrance starts off as a fresh beachy floral with a sweet fruity undertone.
The middle turns into a very clean crisp and fresh floral bouquet that dries down to a beautiful beachy vanilla.
Overall this fragrance is a huge hit !
    I give it a 8.5/10 xo

  38. :

    4 out of 5

Very nice, vanilla, coconut (neither overpowering though). Jasmine. Not all sweet. I get the sea salt vibe again like her previous fragrance.. Lasts quite a while too. I like it.

  39. :

    5 out of 5

I have the blue one and I like it, I always get compliments when I wear it! simply pretty! Near Dusk is also pretty, mostly floral, maybe a bit more generic I admit, I dont detect any coconut, it is a soft floral with hints of vanilla, the vibe of this scent is soft, it isnt anything heady..but it lingers nicely on the skin, is feminine, easy to wear..Aniston has done a nice job , her perfumes all have a soft pretty vibe!!
I dont get the comparison with Alien Extraordinaire which is more sunny and brighter..nice scent, maybe a bit too soft though to be bottle worthy.

  40. :

    4 out of 5

I think J by Jennifer Aniston smells like a vat of cleaning chemicals, so my expectation was rock bottom for this one. Its actually not horrible. The coconut is very subdued and the pink pepper is very soft. Throw in a few white flowers and some woody notes and here you have a generally pleasing scent. There is not one note that stands out, so its considerably well blended, thus easy to wear. If you’re on a budget you could do worse. Am I a fan of this line? Hell no, but I’ll admit its a nice scent.

  41. :

    3 out of 5

Love at first sniff! I had to have it immediately! It’s just so….me. My only complaint is that it’s not that strong. Oh well, might be good for very hot/humid days here in Texas.

  42. :

    3 out of 5

This is a really nice fragrance. I wasn’t a huge fan of her first one, as I found it too laundry fresh, or almost reminiscent of a dryer sheet. I don’t think I’ve tried the blue bottle, her second scent, or I just wasn’t impressed by the tester. This however, I knew from the first spray from the tester, that I’d have to eventually buy it.
My husband got me this, and I’m loving it. I think it will be very nice for the summer, but definitely not limited to being just a summer scent. I can see why a couple people say it’s similar to Theirry Mugler’s Alien. I find Alien hard to wear, but this is very wearable. Even the bottle is pretty, and simplistic. I’m glad to have this, and if you find Alien a bit too strong(or a lot), you should try this. It’s just lovely.

  43. :

    5 out of 5

I got a set of all her 3 fragrances (3 rollerballs, 0.3 oz each) for Xmas & I have to admit that Near Dusk is my favourite.
I fancy the fact it’s not flowery, very relaxed, low key, a bit sweet and salty as described. I am absolutely in love with it! Can’t wait to wear it in summer. While some oceanic scents tend to smell clean or masculine, but not this one – it’s warm and subtle, really well balanced.
The name most definitely matches the idea behind it and the final product. I find J being a bit sharp on my skin, yet, I don’t have this same problem with Near Dusk.
The perfume in this small rollerball will be gone before the weather gets warm, but I plan on buying a 1 oz bottle at least this one, yet, I may get a full-size bottle of other 2 scents.
I applied all three scents on different areas of my arms before going to bed and even though Near Dusk is the softest of the set, it was the only one I could still smell the morning after. Looks like JA improves the longevity of the product with each perfume.
    Very well done, Jennifer!

  44. :

    4 out of 5

Just got this on a paper sample, along with J. I like J, but I love Near Dusk.
Near Dusk is not a run-of-the-mill, sickeningly sweet or screeching loud celebri-fume. This is noticeably good quality. On paper it is very strong – and to me, that’s a good thing. It indicates that perhaps only a spray or two is needed.
The notes are in the right order. It is a sweet composition with well-blended vanilla, coconut, and musk. There are some florals, but none really stick out to me. It reminds me of something I have sampled before, but this one is really drawing me in. A dusky purple is very appropriate for the bottling of this lovely juice! It really does remind me of that special time where dark purple is swallowing up and overtaking the orangey-pink sunset. Either the ad got to me, or this scent really does capture that. Maybe a little of both.
I immediately looked this up on evilBay and there’s only 2 or 3 listings… and it is more than I am willing to pay right now. Is this scent brand new?

  45. :

Love this! Seems like a lighter variation of Alien, which I love but is very very heavy and special occasion. This way I can get a bit of it without it being overpowering. Yum!!

This is really good. It smells of seawater, sand, and a little coconut. Very long lasting too.

  47. :

Well… OK. So I read the scent profile and thought that I was going to love this one. I had her first and returned it, have her second (blue) and I do like it but it’s one I wear for work or casual laying around times. I tried this one (purple) in Kohls and actually do not care for it. I was bummed because my favorite color is purple and I wanted this pretty purple bottle lol – it was just too strong for me. Her “J” scent is my favorite of the three. I will give this another try at some point and if I ever come across a good deal I may just as well purchase 😉
You will def. get the marine and sweet scents of this though

I really want to try because of the Orange Blossom! That’s still my favorite scent in the world.

  49. :

    5 out of 5

I tried this tonight at Kohl’s and I do enjoy it. I think it’s really a pretty scent, but compared to some of the others that I tested tonight, it seems to dissipate quickly. I still think that I will pick this up sometime in the future, but not at full retail price.

  50. :

    3 out of 5

I tried this today at Kohl’s and I LOVE it! To me it smells like a lighter version of Alien Eau Extraordinaire with a touch of salt and coconut. Weird but true. It is sensual, pretty, and sophisticated, very beachy. Longer lasting than her other fragrances, but still pretty light. Nothing weird or off about this fragrance. I want a bottle, not just a small roller ball. I predict this is going to be a BIG hit! A+

  51. :

    4 out of 5

I recently ordered a roller-ball of Near Dusk from Kohl’s online – finally it was showing up on their website. The opening feels similar to me as “J” and yet there is more here too. I like the opening sea salt and coconutty vibe a lot. I pick up the florals here but not individually or strongly, I just know that they are there. This perfume is stronger than JA and J, and yet it’s not a heavy scent, either. I think the name is perfect because to me this is what I would smell like after a day at the beach, a nice shower and a soft beachy vibe perfume to finish off my evening. This is definitely wearable by day, too. I have been wearing this in the evenings and I do note that I can still softly smell it in the morning when I wake up. I really love this perfume!

I haven’t seen this out yet. I have J and didn’t like Lolavie on me (returned it). I will wait for a sale/coupon though unless I REALLY like this one which I have a feeling becasue of the notes ( I love amber and vanilla!) that this may be my fave…
