DSH’s Mysore Sandalwood smells like the half way point between shoe polish and dark wood furniture. This may indeed be the real thing or an extraction from the real thing, but as someone who used to wear mysore sandalwood oil almost daily for years I can tell you that this is shockingly simple and single note.
One of the great things about the real stuff is that its multifaceted. Yes, its very woody, but it’s also got nuances of spice, milk and a gentle warmth.
DSH’s interpretation is nice but allows for the exploration of only one part of a beautiful whole. This smells great, I was just expecting it to smell more like unadultered, inherently multifaceted mysore.

Darn!!
This is the most beautiful sandalwood fragrance, rich, complex and warm. It’s described as a single note perfume but I could swear there is an intermittent top note of sweet orange or tangerine.
Unfortunately it just doesn’t last well on my skin, or I would be buying myself a lifetime supply.
(I’m looking for replacement staple sandalwood scent since Samsara has become too intense for me; Tam Dao is too sharp/clear/light; LV Sandalo is too masculine… apart from the longevity issue, this one is pretty much perfect.)

Let me know what you think about this. If it’s good, maybe I am gonna get one.

I sampled the perfume oil version of Mysore Sandalwood and I must say this perfectly unisex, natural-smelling, solinote perfume is absolutely gorgeous!
It’s rich, smoldering, smooth, earthy, luminous, and a tiny bit sweet. It smells like a cabin deep in the forest, or an expensive carved wooden box. You know, sandalwood! Sandalwood in all its glory. Definitely smells sacred to me.
I’ll update with longevity information when I have tried it more extensively. Wears close to the skin.
On further wearing, I find the longevity to be average. Lasts for the better part of a day, but reapplication is needed toward evening.
