One of the two Guerlains I most desire to own full bottles of. I’ve tried this on many occasions and gone through many decants.
As far as violet scents go, this and Apres l’Ondee are true perfection. It lasts at least 6 hours on me and is perfectly powdery. Does it emulate the smell of Les Meteorites? To my nose, yes!

I expected more out of a retired, hard-to-find Guerlain. I expected more iris. The iris just lends the soft, powdery feel to the scent. This is straight-up violet. Soft, powdery, slightly sweet violet. A skin scent that lasts a couple hours then is gone.

This is just like the Meteorites powder pearls which is a very good thing. In a way not so good in terms of sillage and longevity. When i wear the cosmetic pearls i smell it strongly from the tin container and as i apply the powder to my face. I slightly smell the beautiful violet scented powder for 1-2 hours after. My bottle has the same effect. Smells strongly from the perfume bottle and during application. The scent is a skin scent for up to 2 hours which is spot on with the scent performance those makeup pearls give off on me.
I find Penhaligon’s Violetta to be a stronger and longer lasting version of a violet-dominant type perfume, somewhat, like Meteorites and Violetta is currently one of my favorites this season. Guerlain Meteorites has a hefty price tag for such a short-lived skin scent. I was better off sticking with just owning the cosmetic pearls.

Meteorites is the prettiest candied violet scent I know. It smells exactly like the meteorites powder, it’s so delicious. Sweet, a bit tart, with a powdery touch in the drydown, yet never losing that playful and innocent feel. It’s light and airy, almost with a sheer quality. If I were to compare it with a fabric, I’d have to say gauze. Longevity is excellent, and sillage very good too.

Meteorites fall from the skies and on to your skin during which time they become purple flowers. This is a gorgeous purple floral fragrance and each of them are my favorite: you’ve got iris, you’ve got violet and heliotrope. The heliotrope at the base is probably harmonizing with powder or a soft sandalwood that is not listed. The iris and violet reign supreme. The scent is long lasting, elegant, aromatic, bold and beautiful. If you like fragrances like L’Heure Bleu and Apres L’Ondee you’ll like this one. This has some of the same aspects as L’Heure Bleu but far more powdery and certainly not as melancholy. It’s sweet, romantic and very grown-up. It makes the statement that you’ve become a woman. I find it extremely romantic and so I can only wear this from time to time, especially if I’m in a particularly romantic mood. Formal. This is nothing to put on with jeans. This is a fragrance you wear with a beautiful dress, gown or wedding gown. The scent is rather strong so apply with a light touch. I’m assuming it’s been discontinued or reformulated. Try to hunt down the original vintage on ebay. You won’t regret it. This is a masterpiece of perfumery.

For some reason, my Great-Auntie got me this when I was kid and I loved it. It smelled exactly like parma violets and face powder, and I used to adore it. I have a tiny little bottle left which I covet, and desperately want more of. I really hope that this comes back, or I can find something similar.

Thanks to a Fragrantica friend who got me hooked on Arpege by Lanvin I now possess this perfume. O my God where has it been all my life? I think, yes I think this could be it, my wedding perfume. It doesn’t have the white floral scents I go for but it has purple flowers that smell the same as if it was a bridal bouquet. These are iris flowers, violets and heliotrope. Out of all of them the heliotrope is the alpha flower. Iris and violet are well combined. Smells purple, feels purple, tastes purple. This is soft and didn’t last as long as I would have liked. For whatever reason, it’s a more elaborate and stronger scent than Vera Wang’s Sheer Veil. This is not giving me a bridal fragrance vibe but if I fail to find a more suitable one I’ll choose this one. It’s memorable, and smells expensive. And more importantly it’s been discontinued and no one else is wearing this. I will be one great smelling bride that smells unlike whatever fragrances are on other brides! This fragrance makes me think of the 1950’s, of women who were dressed in bell shaped skirts, beautiful ball gowns, gloves, hair made up in French twists, sophisticated classy ladies seated in a lounge apart from the men and holding their expensive clutch bags talking quietly but contentedly. It’s an expensive smelling fragrance. It’s also similar to Creed’s Fleurissimo which was Grace Kelly’s wedding perfume. If you can still find this fragrance go for it and buy it. It’s gorgeous. I’m so lucky I have one bottle in my collection.

well i was expecting a sweetish powdery green violet! you can’t blame me, from looking at those notes.
this smells like a set of pricey violet/lily of the valley hand cream and matching liquid soap. I know it was never supposed to be a complex scent, it was supposed to mirror the smell of the Meteorites makeup and mirror them it probably does.
i don’t get powder. it isn’t particularly green so much, as a bit castille liquid soap up the nostrils.

where is the powder, the iris, the heliotrope? the notes don’t match the scent, not to my nose.

it has the same Guerlain 2000 vibe. But to me, it doesn’t remind me much of a Guerlain perfume, not really.
i might even say that it is old-fashioned in a way that will never say vintage. Vintage is good. Old-fashioned is just, not very wearable. Sad face.
P.S. it does not smell like annick goutal la violette.

This speaks to a much older time than the year 2000. There are no woods listed, but woods dominate.
There is a tonne of violet, and very little sweetness.
Soft, classy fragrance. The merest touch of green. Expert perfumery. There is a slight tart sweetness that emerges as it dries down.
It is unwearable for me however much I appreciate it. It has none of the soft sweet nature of iris I was hoping for, except for right at the end. My tastes are too corrupted by the current sweetness on the market today. Beautiful bottle.
It is discontinued however so I shall hold on to it and hope to make lots of money off of it from a fellow collector. (How mercenary I am heehee!)

If the color purple was a smell, this would be it. It’s the purple violet candy my Dad used to eat. That shiny purple foil wrapper. Actually, this perfume is the meteorites powder balls, not a thing more. Go to a Guerlain counter no ask to smell the powder. Then begin a search that will go on and on. It’s highly sought after, and priced accordingly. Godspeed!

I hunted this down like I had a pack of hounds with me. My daughter went nuts over this smell. Oh yeah, found a bottle. She loves it. Kinda weird because it does smell like how I remember my grandmother smelling. (Besides her beloved Tabu). So my daughter smells like my grandmother. I guess the circle is complete now. It is very nice, I will admit! I get the same burst when I apply my meteorites, but love to wear a whole host of others, so for a fragrance, I wouldn’t choose it. You can’t really go wrong with Guerlain. If it works with your chemistry, you’ll probably smell the best you ever have in your life! I love this House!

Oh my, how I love this. I don’t know why I waited so long to get it. Meteorites is one of those perfumes that takes me to a very special place, like Violettes De Toulouse, and Violetta Di Parma…but I find that they all their own scent to me. Meteorites is absolutely Guerlain…the most beautiful violet ever. I get a little of yardley’s violet and Annick Goutal’s La Violette, but to me this is much better. Perfection.
All day of wearing this, I am on a fluffy cloud made just for me, everything in a purple haze. This is a cloud wear tiny sweet violets grow surrounding me in supersonic powdery violet scented perfection. Everything about this is so purple…violets, heliotrope, and iris. The perfect shade of purple. I am in love.

I am getting a lot of heliotrope out of this. First spray is a little indolic and I kind of smell aldehydes. I think the drydown is very beautiful, with a soft powder, a sweet green note, and heliotrope.
Edit to add – this perfume sadly doesn’t last very long. It is quickly becoming one of my faves, but I feel like my tiny 1oz bottle isn’t going to last very long, since I have to spray this liberally throughout the day.

This is a lovely green violet with a plasticy edge. I didn’t know what to expect of it, being Guerlain, but I did think it would have some elements of Guerlainade. Unfortunately I was wrong.
I do like this but it’s atypical of Guerlain to me. In fact I find it very similar to L’Artisan Violette Vert, although Meteorites has a little more powder in the base and is slightly more complex. Meteorites also has greater longevity than VV, although it doesn’t last on me more than 2 – 3 hours.
I’m glad I satisfied my curiosity by trying this one. Not sure if it will be a go-to fragrance for me, but it is a lovely, quiet scent.

The top notes remind me very much of Penhaligon’s Violetta, but they both develop rather differently. Violetta is geranium spicy, but Meteorites is far more gentle and remains lightly floral and powdery. It’s a sweet, simple, summery gorgeous pure scent. It just misses being cloying by virtue of the green notes which keep it fresh.

Loved the scent and treasured it – I can only name the scent “ethereal violet”. It felt like a violet fallen from the stars (meteorites, anyone?).

We who loved meteorites were exctatic to find out Guerlain decided to make perfume after meteorite’s scent! It wasn’t a true perfume, but a fun way to intensify the fragrance of meteorite blushing pearls. So the fact is: Meteorites was rather simple perfume and was rather refreshing at the time. Strong powerful “late eighties fragrances” reigned the market. This was a flirty feminine unpretentious scent, yet more interesting when compared to early nineties unisex citrus splashes… I would still wear it if it was available. However I have no problem wearing Duet instead! 🙂

I’ve just received this discontinued Guerlain…I’m so happy! On my skin, it isn’t a simple and linear violet fragrance… I can smell very well the heliotrope, that becomes gradually more and more prominent!The base is very powdery, but still flowery. I think it’s perfect, mostly in spring, for those who love the sweet, powdery and a little old fashionated fragrances! It is a little similar to Bulgari Pour femme, which I also love!

I really expected more from Guerlain-
I can highly recommend Violetta di Bosco by I Profumi Firenze, an incredible soliflore that I wish would be added to our database!

Yes yes yes, the best attempt for me on iris/violet/powder combinations…simply addictive…it has naturally the Guerlain like “Guerlinade” which means you can identify each and every Guerlain in the drydown by that undescribable Guerlain touch..for me it means you can blow it to live even after hours and hours with one hot breath and the quality of Guerlain will fondle your nose..incrediable! and sadly:discontinued!..grab your self a bottle if you can! Meteorites is so far the best pure violet fragrance I’ve tried, but to appreciate it you must like powder. Meteorites is all about powder.
The violet is very pronounced and supported by another favourite flower I have: heliotrope. In all it is a very beautiful cut out quarter from the L’Heure Bleue cake and is also similar to Apres L’Ondee, two of the most romantic and wonderful fragrances ever made in my humble opinion.
However, the big difference is that Meteorites has no edge. Where LHB and Apres has anis and spicy carnation, Meteorites goes on and on with more violet and powdery iris. That doesn’t mean it’s bad (it IS really lovely) but it’s rather a cuddly comfort scent than something I would wear a night out.
Among the violets I’ve tried I would still choose Insolence edp for a night out, so I guess I’ll have to get a bottle of that as well.

I love the bottle-but the fragrance takes me back to the days before I became a perfumista-not that I ever remember calling many fragrances “old-lady”-but out of hundreds of fragrances I’ve smelled this one really smells octogenarian to me-and not in a good way! I really don’t like it so much I had to make sure my swapping pal knew what she is getting-and I hope she likes it better than me!
I have never smelled the face powder, so I can’t say whether the fragrance smells like it or not. Meteorites is simply very powdery, VERY organic indeed, but not so gentle to me as others find it-such a great bounty of violets, violets and nothing else-I had no idea what I was in for when I was expecting to smell “violets”-violets pressed hard and preserved from the days when children never talked back.

I had dismissed METEORITES early on as a sort of joke: GUERLAIN clearly needed to put out a new scent, so they decided to launch one already on hand, used to scent a collection of products in one of their cosmetic lines!
Today, however, although it is indeed true that this is no more and no less than the scent used to fragrance the colorful powdery eponymous spheres used to highlight one’s face with a shimmering glow, I am liking METEORITES, edt. It seems powdery and complex and upon spritzing evoked immediate albeit vague memories of BULGARI pour FEMME.
METEORITES is a safe, comfortable, gentle and powdery scent along the same general lines as ALLURE. Eminently wearable, a scent that is friendly, not profound. A comfort scent.
I wonder whether GUERLAIN also bottled the scent of their lipsticks? That would be nice…

This is the consummate violet. Wonderful, almost a soliflore. The Green Notes and Iris only serve as a pedestal to the violet, and the Heliotrope only to keep it there (violet can fall flat easily). This cannot be compared to Guerlain’s perfumes as it was launched as an accompaniment to the Meteorites makeup line.

This perfume brings back such fond memories. I was lucky enough to try “Meteorites” face pearls as a child. Mereorites perfume is just like the pearly, mystical little violet scented powder balls. The wonderful powdery flowers, that’s what Meteorites are. Very soft, lightly sweet, vertiginous fragrance. If you like the smell of Guerlain face powder “Meteorites”, you should try this perfume because it smells almost the same like the popular face powder:)Very nice!
