Xerjoff is one of my favorite houses with a wide variety of offerings.
I like more fresher scents in general and Xerjoff has a lot of unique smelling fresh scent offerings.
Mefisto however is not one of them as this is not unique. The scent has strong similarities to Creeds Silver Mountain Water (SMW). Mefisto is less watery and more powdery than SMW with better lasting power.
I find this scent perfectly appropiate for office envirement but also casual use. My wife generally doesn’t like Niche perfumery but this is one of her favorite fragrances on me.
Summary: Good smelling fragrance which a scent character which is not used by the masses and with great longevity. I give Mefisto a 8,5/10.

Xerjoff Mefisto has a strong reputation and in trying it today, I can understand why. Its blend and note breakdown are excellently arranged to create a balanced, enjoyable freshie.
First, the opening of mixed citrus (lemon, bergamot, grapefruit) is great, and grapefruit and bergamot in particular vary from one another enough to create a sort of general citrus vibe that’s enjoyable while not being overwhelming.
Next, the heart of mixed florals, perhaps the three greatest floral notes, in rose, iris, and lavender. It too is fresh, but also sharp and deep and nuanced.
Finally, the base of amber, sandalwood, cedar, and musk, is soft, warm bed for the fragrance to rest on after drying down, the amber and musk adding some sweetness to contrast the citrus and floral opening and heart, respectively.
This is a near-perfect formula for a winning fresh fragrance: variant citrus and floral notes with just enough woodsy and whim while still being on-target and not too quirky to be universally enjoyable. Still, somehow, though, it feels sophisticated and not so commonplace to be regarded as boring or generic.
Mefisto’s main pitfall, at least on my skin, is its performance, which seems to be moderate (at best) in terms of both projection and longevity. Apparently the consensus is somewhat more favorable.
Only with respect to performance, then, is Mefisto a tough sell. Even its discounted pricing ($238 for 100ml on FragranceX) is a tough sell, let alone the retail ($290 for 100ml on Luckyscent), but surely there are deals and decants to be had.
In conclusion, it’s a superlative freshie, held back only by its performance on my skin, but hopefully it does better on yours.

A great fragrance. It indeed smells very similar to SMW, but differs in that it has a very “juicy” citrus quality that really makes it shine to me. Better performance than SMW as well.

Martinjford could not be more wrong. Probs a creed fanboy. Sure mefisto plays the same game as SMW but it does it much better. Its MJ to Iverson. Messi to neymar. Its Magnus to Anand. It performs MUCH MUCH better than the creed. SMW gives you 5 hours. Mefisto gives you 9-12. One is smooth, the other ragged. One is brilliant 0n a global scale, the other just a smart kid in class.

To me this is almost identical to mancera wild fruits. Both carry the DNA of Creed SMW but they are more feminine and fruity. Creed is the masculine and sophisticated choice (old 120 ml batches I mean)

I had this for a while, was mildly impressed by it and definitely felt that it was overpriced (and Im not shy in buying expensive parfumes, I have a pretty nice selection of kurkdijan, amouage and frederic male stuff on my shelves, as long as I feel that I get a good value for my money, big price tags are not a problem for me)
As the general consensus here seem to suggests that it is Creed Silver Water on roids and it runs an easy lap around it, I never really got much interest in Silver Water left. It just so happend that I got some partly used bottle of Creed Silver Water recently trough some trade, and after a full day of wearing it, I am completely blown away.
The performance of SMW is INCOMPARABLY better. Are you even kidding me? And no, Im not pulling this out of my backside, I can totally accurately judge this to be the case. I am walking through the same reception, from the same angle every work day, and always freshly showered and fragnatized (i know its not a word:D) , the guy at the reception happens to be a buddy of mine, also with a good nose and some interest in frags. I asked him about Mefisto, and he said lean over, thats how little it projected. Also he was apparently unimpressed and didnt think much of it, same can be said about anyone I have asked, including an ex of mine who asked me not to wear it as it is just “not a good one”.
This morning, still sort of unaware of just how much I project, I asked the same guy about SMW and he said, “I have smelt you from the street” and he said it is very interesting, fresh with a tobacco touch it (which I believe is how he smelt the lovely tee-musk-blackcurrant combo). Later this day, a lady asked me if she could buy the “fragrance of the house”, which is pretty odd as we do not have one in this office. She was talking about a lovely citrusy smell, and I have just realized she is talking about the trail I have left walking down the corridor :)) the projection of SMW is FAR, FAR, FAR more superior than Mefisto. Anybody who says otherwise has either never tried both, or has some sort of snobbish agenda against Creed, due to Aventus’ overwhelming mass appeal)
PERFORMANCE: Trust me, these two are not even in the same league. EASY win for SMW
SMELL: I sort of get the idea of Mefisto, it is obviously using some of the highest quality bergamot one can come across in italy, and it just wants to give you this sharp, relentless citrus vibe dressed in a general Mediterranean frame of scents, sort of how some stronger wind coming from the Mediterranean sea would pick up the note of different citruses. The result is utterly boring for the untrained nose, and mildly interesting to my somewhat trained nose. In any case it is pretty one dimensional and not exactly a grower, turns more bitter over time, but thats about all what it does. SMW is a similar take, but definitely puts you on a more interesting journey, even a touch of sweetness is there at the very begining, thanks to a pretty full, fresh handpicked note of blackcurrant. the second thing you notice is the green tea, which is the perfect medicine to tame the bitterness of the mix. later this sharp citrusy journey is going from bitter to almost creamy, and boy it last ages so you will notice every step of the way. also , even after 1 day of wearing, it is quite obvious that the “masses” find something to appreciate in it, whereas to the mefisto, they just give you the face like you made them smell a small bottle of sanbitter.
PRICE: here in switzerland we pay 205 CHF for 100ml mefisto and 225 for 120ml Creed SMW, so pound for pound the SMW is somewhat cheaper, but to tell you the truth, both are overpriced. the creed somewhat, the mefisto, morbidly.

This does smell great. But the longevity and projection is pathetic. I bought a bottle from a guy off eBay who said a relative gave it to him, granted, but I did a side by side with a sample from Luckyscent on paper, and mine lasted longer than the Luckyscent one did! What a bummer. This stuff retails for an astronomically high price with this kind of performance. Next time I see it in a store I’ll spray some on to double check my bottle but like I said mine outperformed the Luckyscent sample. Ridiculous.

Can’t believe I’ve been sleeping on this since 2009. How can a fragrance make you feel both exuberant and at peace at the same time? Doesn’t matter, Xerjoff has accomplished it here!
This opens very similarly to Creed Silver Mountain Water, just replace the metallic note in SMW with a green freshness. After a few minutes though, it takes on a life all its own. There’s a familiar Xerjoff signature citrus in here that makes me feel zen. The florals on top are as smooth as silk. Actually, there isn’t a sharp edge anywhere in this composition. Combine the aforementioned dna with a soft, woody and almost powdery dry-down and you have a fragrance for the ages. I LIKE SMW, I LOVE Mefisto.
Projection: Around 4 feet easily for 3 hours. Closer to the skin after that but still leaves a nice scent trail.
Longevity: 8-10 hours on my skin.
Versatility: Any occasion or season, really performs well in the heat.

To me, the comparison with Creed Sliver Mountain Water is analogous to brewing the same coffee twice – once in a French press and once with a Chemex. The former produces more body, and leads to more muscular juice; this is Creed SMW. The latter trades body for clarity and produces more nuance; this is Xerjoff Mefisto. Both are great, IMO, but whichever is “better” depends on your personal preference. I’ll consider picking up Mefisto when I run out of SMW, but probably will not own both.

  12. :

Mefisto is a name that would raise eyebrows and make you think of something dark and evil. It is not the case with this fragrance as Xerjoff created a bright, floral composition with nothing dark, mysterious or such, quite the opposite.
The fragrance opens up with a huge dose of bergamot that pairs up nicely with the grapefruit. It has a very sharp, almost bitter introduction. In the drydown you can smell the floral aspect and some soft musk.
As with all Xerjoffs, the quality is top, this one is no exception as the blending is very good, the ingredients smell very natural and there is quite a development on skin. Nothing groundbreaking, but nevertheless a nice scent with an elegant and classy touch.

Yes, it is very similar to Silver Mountain Water by Creed, but I have picked up on some major differences. After owning Mefisto for a year, I can say that I probably prefer SMW. The inkiness of SMW adds a layer of futuristic, yet office-appropriate sophistication to the fragrance. SMW also has the signature Creed dna scent in it that is a trademark and recognizable. Mefisto doesn’t have that inkiness, and in its place is a classic salty lavender smoothed over a little bit with an iris and rose combo. That saltiness of the lavender combined with the citrus notes reminds me of Acqua di Parma and 4711 fragrances, which is not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just not what I was looking for in a fragrance like this. I wanted a signature year-round work scent that is a compliment monster. I only find Mefisto good for hotter days due to its classic Eau de cologne vibes, but I can wear SMW any day of the year and it wouldn’t smell out of place. Mefisto does perform way better, but the part of it that projects so much is that overdose of salty lavender, which is my least favorite part of Mefisto and I imagine other people’s least favorite aspect of the fragrance as well. If you’re all about beast mode projection and longevity, and you don’t mind owning another Italian Eau de cologne, Mefisto is the one for you. But if you want a fragrance in this family and you value utter sophistication and clear imagery over all else, get SMW. It doesn’t have the saltiness and rude sillage, and it is perfectly rounded out by the Creed ambergris

I have read all reviews. Almost all of them make reference to creed Silver Mountain Water. To sum it up, it seems like most reviewers think Mefisto is similar to SMW, but better.
Missing more original approaches that review Mefisto as an independent creature.

I traded for this fragrance, because I’m a big fan of Creed Silver Mtn Water, and an even bigger fan of Bond Hamptons.
I get the immediate similarity, this is a sparkling and clean scent. By comparison i feel like Creed has the metallic-tea notes, Hamptons is the floral one and Mefisto is somewhere in-between in terms of what they smell like. This is the “brightest” smelling and easily the strongest of the bunch.
I’m so glad I finally got my hands on a bottle of Xerjoff! Between this, Creed SMW and Bond Hamptons, this now takes the #1 spot for me. It’s clearly a Summer scent so I’m going to keep it on ice until the weather heats up again.

I received a casamorati xerjoff 2 ml sample vials from Luckyscent however this smells almost identical to Creed. I was thinking it was a copy carbon of creed. Well its nothing negative about this fragrance only that it doesn’t last very long on my skin.

    5 out of 5

Only a first impression so far but this is some incredible juice! It does instantly remind me of Silver Mountain Water, which is one of my favourite fragrances, so of course i really like it. However the longevity is much longer for Mefisto. A long lasting unique and beautiful summer scent! I need to give this a full wearing because i may end up buying it even though i already have SMW. I will put them on side by side to check if there is much of a difference.

Hands down one of the best aromatic citrus fragrances out there and one that definitely deserves more attention and praise. For me, this one was love at first spray. Yes.. there is the obvious similarity to SMW, but as others have noted it’s a much more refined blend with a non-existent metallic feel. Mefisto, along with 1861 Renaissance are worth their weight in gold.

  20. :

Come on guys, this has nothing to do with creed SMW, it has its own characteristics and it’s quite sophisticated from start to dry down. I have few creed fragrances but I don’t own SMW. Because I don’t like it at all. I am not a creed fanboy. I like what is good and dislike which is not good. And mefisto is not like SMW otherwise I don’t have it

I have an interesting relationship with this frag. Usually I cannot smell the parfumes on me after half an hour whereas others can. With this one, the smell just doesn’t leave me for hours. It’s in my nose the whole night until I wake up. But others just cannot smell it. Never had any experience like that with a frag. Even after 3 spritz people need to lean on me to smell this thing. It just doesn’t project. Similarities with SMW is undeniable, but this one is a better version. I wish it projected better.

  22. :

One of the best lime notes in the game. Very similar to SMW by Creed but the blend and quality is stepped way up. Unfortunately, this has an ink accord on my skin that makes me not like it sometimes but I do wear it still and enjoy it.

Mefisto opens smelling like a cheap fragrance that I have in my collection namely Silver by Al Rehab. Once this dries down Mefisto smells almost identical to Paco by Paco Rabanne. To me Mefisto isn’t worth the asking price since it is so reminiscent of two cheaply available fragrances.

  26. :

    3 out of 5

Xerjoff cheap…I don’t think so, its an absolute stunning fragrance! Beats SMW hands down, no inky or metallic notes whatsoever. This frag defiantly needs more luv! Want a real real cheap version buy Silver by Rehab.

I find the opening different to Silver Mountain Water. For me the similarities start at the end of the mid to the base (Mefisto being sweeter in the base). Different enough to have both although for me they would be worn for similar occasions.
nb. I have SMW and a decant of Mefisto

Smells similar to SMW but 10X better. It has everything you LIKE about SMW and doesn’t have anything you HATE about SMW (at least for me). It doesn’t have the metallic vibe that is present in SMW and is more fruity, fresh and classy. The best part about it is it will last the whole day with one spray. Not trying to bash on Creed as I have 3 of their fragrances that I REALLY love but Xerjoff beats Creed in this department.

The bottle I have has a HEAVY English black tea opening.
I had been looking for a tea fragrance that could be masculine, this is not entirely masculine but close enough for me. I really enjoy this fragrance… projection and longevity are excellent! I get a really nice sillage as well.
This is a fantastic early morning fragrance.
    Update to the above review:
Xerjoff is really outstanding. I have picked up 2 more of their fragrances.
This one, Mephisto, is just everything you want in a fragrance. Potent, projects and lasts… besides that it smells fantastic. This has to be in my top 5. I wonderful scent, I can always tell when people around me are focused on the scent. Draws attention and compliments. Thank you, Xerjoff.

I bought a sample and met with disappointment, since I was expecting a more masculine scent. I get a LOT of rose from this and it just feels like a women’s perfume. Same thing happened with Kurkdjian Lumiere Noire Homme. Had high hopes for both and tried to like them, but no.

Beautiful, can’t-stop-sniffing-my-arm floral citrus. It’s practically addictive. I understand the SMW comparisons, but I do think Mefisto is better, and not just by a little bit…

I wrote a review about this one before but that wasn’t ok so i decide to test it more careful and review again.
at first it’s completely like SMW but with more fresh instead of alluminium notes and last more longer.begin with fresh lemon and some flowery note that make this one completely unisex perfume.i believe that girls can use it easily.really good perfume? YES definitely. Do i buy it? No,never. because of extortionate price.sorry.7/10

Sometimes I think people will compare anything to a Creed and claim Creed does it better. This is superior to Creeds SMW in just about every way. If that statement already has you doubting this review, don’t buy this. I swear you could bottle the tears of God himself and there would be people claiming its a Creed rip off, and Creeds is better. When read reviews though this website, i scan for the word Creed and if i see it, i just don’t read the review….well hell i broke my own rule, i guess i wont read this one either. Be open minded. no one house has the BEST in every fragrance, no one house is so above everyone else, that every other fragrance is inconsequential. Sometimes i wish i was a Creed Sheeple…it would save me so much time, i could just buy everything they had and be done.

Every body said it’s like creed but in my openion it’s different not totally same as creed . Because I tried both of them I used creed in 1998 and I like too much because in that time it’s really sth different and uniq. In 2009 I bought mfeisto which is I like it more than SMW.Mefisto is somtherr and more powdery moreover its very longe lasting until now I bought more than three bottles and I got many complements about it.

This fragrance does smell a lot like SIlver Mountain Water by Creed. It’s a great scent, and currently one of my favorites. Somehow, looking at the notes and accords, they are significantly different from SMW, yet the sum of its parts gives Mefisto a very similar scent to SMW. Where this differs is in longevity and projection. I’d rate SMW a 10/10, which can only make this one an 11/10.

  42. :

    4 out of 5

Xerjoff mefisto is all about refreshing citrus notes blended greatly with lavender which I love in men’s fragrances, some powdery iris and something like tea(deep, calming and in deed prominent on me)
And it moves straight forward to my top ten men perfumes
It’s fresh, high quality, clean, classy, everything thing in its right amount(hint of spices, woods, musk, etc) and simply adorable, great for hot days and I like it much more than Creed silver mountain
I agree it can pass as a unisex scent, though I prefer to smell it on my man,not myself,so I suppose it’s more on the masculine side
Longevity and sillage are very good especially for a summary scent, and you can get lots of positive comments on it(as a woman I definitely ask it’s name if I smell this heaven it on a man)

You are on a holiday in Southern Italy in this summer. It’s Early in the Morning. There was a little rain at Night. But, now it’s all clear. The sky is Bright Blue. You are sitting in an Iris Garden, with a Cup of English Tea and a Good Book of Romantic Poetries. The Southern Breeze is blowing over the Iris Flowers, touching your hair, whispering their own Poetries.
Mefisto is the Poetry of the Citruses and Iris. A Romantic One.
Mefisto starts like a whisper of a mild tea note, along with Grapefruit. Soon joined by a more tangy and slight bitter Bergamot. There is a wet, juicy, well rounded Iris giving sweetness to the structure. At dry down, a beautiful earthy sandalwood joins in, with a slight salty musk. The whole composition is very airy and I call it a “thirst quencher” for hot summer days.
The name justification: It’s Mischievous like a Devil and speaks it’s stakes with whisper, which you cant ignore, because of it’s strong personality. It’s Narcissist, but never over exaggerates. But still I will say this “Mefisto” has a Sweet Heart. Handsome, Romantic and Sweet.
Another “Bergamot” Masterpiece by Xerjoff. This House can create an Encyclopedia of Perfumes by using this single component itself. “Bergamot” is Xerjoff’s trump card and they never fail to use it the Best of way.
    Sillage: Moderate
Longevity on My Skin: Approx 12 Hours
Longevity on Fabric: Almost 1 Day
Occasion: A very Romantic Perfume for hot humid summer days.
    Rating: 9.5/10
P.S: The presentation is Beautiful with Renaissance style Paintings on the Box.

I bought The showergel of this perfume And IT Smells amazing because for me this type of scents would be perfect as shower gel even more to be weared as a Perfume Also i bought a Sample to compare IT with silver mountain Water . And Will review IT later by god’s Will
Edit : after full day wearing If sergio momo Will permit me to rename it , i would Call it mountain water , yes i Will just erase The silver word from creed SMW , because there is no silver harsh note In mefisto , Also The rose In dry down here is more natural , the opening is clean and refreshing also the longevity is very good 2 spritz at 2:00 pm now its 24:00 am And i can still smell IT easily , projection 4 hours hesvy
    4-6 moderate
    6-10 hours weak
Maybe its not true but i found The dry down very similar to wisal from ajmal IT’s available here on fragrantica database but no one notice The similarties .
    Anyways
I Will buy 30 ml Bottle of mefisto as i heard its In The market soon by god’s Will

Tried this over several days last week before Snowzilla hit. When ever I test, I spray first on the back of my hand and tilt it in the light to see if I can see the sheen that would tell me of the fragrance’s oil content. From first spray, this one not only left an oily patch, but also opened with the most fabulous citrusy lavender combination I have encountered yet. The lavender wasn’t the playdoh type I encounter so often (Caron Pour Homme, I’m looking at you) nor it is the twiggy woodiness that I find in By Kilian.
Instead the lavender and citrus intertwine and shortly give way to the iris. Shortly, musk makes its entrance and stays this way, a musky iris, for the duration of time on my skin. Speaking of duration, I sprayed this on my arm on the way home from work and changed clothes when I got home. Odd thing is that I can still smell it on the shirt I changed into, going on four days now. The only other fragrance with this sort of longevity that I have encountered is Dior’s Eau Savuage.
In reading the reviews, I can certainly see where folks get the similarity to SMW, however, to me, SMW has a metallic edge to it (maybe its psychosomatic based on the “silver” in the name)that, despite repeated attempts, just does not work with my skin chemistry.
Mephisto, IMO, out does Creed it both the quality of the composition and longevity and, in doing so, has made it on to my “wish list”.
P.S. I don’t detect the rose, cedar or amber notes listed in the Fragrantica note pyramid

Creed’s Silver Mountain Water had a lovechild with Bond no 9’s Hampton and they sent him to Harvard and he now lives in a mansion or a castle. Imagine that!

Dude, unless you’ve got money to burn, you really need to take the time to price your frags out properly. A 250ml glass flacon of Silver Mountain Water should set you back around $233 whereas a 100ml bottle of Mefisto should run around $229. I don’t know where you shop, but clearly someone is ripping you off.

Much has been said about the similarities between this and Creed’s Silver Mountain water, but I think they are only ostensibly similar. Mefisto is smoother, longer lasting, more masculine and has much better sillage; two sprays and I’m set for the day. Thankfully, it also lacks the Creed’s harsh metallic note that many, including me, find off-putting. The superior citrus notes – a Xerjoff speciality – of bergamot and grapefruit, along with the addition of lavender, put this a class apart from the Creed. Pricing wise, Mefisto sells for $345, compared to Creed’s $370, so they are more or less the same price, and Considering you’ll be using much less per wearing, this is also better value. Also, I know many people care about this, so I’d like to add that Mefisto receives a fair few compliments too.
P.S. Millesime Imperial is my signature fragrance (I don’t hate Creed :D)

Another normal fragrance from this line! citrus, lavender, a bit of cedar and sandalwood. Quite sophisticated but repetitive somehow & kind of like a masculine deodorant essence, the calmer it goes the aquatic it turns (the note i don’t like) and then the amber shows mixed with the aquatic note.

Hate to beat a dead horse but man this really smells like SMW. Ive never worn both side by side, but if I just smelled this on someone walking by I dont think I could tell the difference. They are very similar to me, of course creed has these horrible batch varations, but whatever versions of SMW that ive smelled this is very similar.
I dont mean that in a totally bad way though, SMW is one of my favorite summer sorta scents ever I think it smells great. And I think this smells great to…
Off hand wearing this again today, man hard to say, I guess main differences I notice is the lemon in this is pretty apparent at the beginning, this has some sour grapefruit citrus note to it, and maybe this can be a little windex/or cleaning detergent smelling if im really LOOKING for difference. But I mean just smelling this off hand, its SMW to me.
For what its worth I havnt smelled the hamptons in awhile but I dont recall that smelling very similar to SMW to me, but this one definitely does. Again not a bad thing though per say because I enjoy the smell a lot myself. Just potentially redundant if you own both obviously and of course well its probably to expensive for what it is.

A cleaner, more refined version of Creed Silver Mountain Water. Whether or not it is listed, the tea note in this one is excellent. Love the citrus top note but the soft woods at the base. A classic fragrance that is easily wearable in any occasion. Longevity is 8-10 hours, projection 4-6 hours. If price isn’t a deterrent, get ahold of this beauty.

The perfume pundits are correct. This is no doubt a hybrid of Silver Mountain Water and The Hamptons. If I wanted to create a clichéd summer fragrance, what would be the notes? Lemon, Lavender, Grapefruit, Musk etc? All the components that qualifies Mefisto as same ole run of the mill summer stuff. I require mystery in all of my fragrances regardless of the season in order for me to deem it purchase worthy. There’s no way around it, Xerjoff can be hit or miss. Not bad for redundancy but you know how the story goes: This is about as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle.

Why do people mindlessly repeat this smells like silver mountain water? This behavior follows a similar pattern, some less expensive scent x vaguly resembles a well known expensive fragrance y. Someone claims x smells like y and everyone else hops on the bandwagon without even testing fragrance x and y side by side to make their own decision. And if this was a cheaper fragrance, it would automaticaly be labeled a knock-off, copy, or rip-off of the more expensive one. Because everyone knows the more expensive fragrance is the trailblazer that came first and everything else that smells like it, regardless of whether it was made before or after.<
