Oh my good Lord – lavender has never smelt so juicy.
The lavender in Abdul Karim Al Faransi’s ‘Massilia’ is so fresh, naturalistic and zingy that it’s making my mouth water. I want to lick where it’s resonating on my arm but I’d probably poison myself, but what a way to die! This has amazing quality and is unlike any other fragrance in regards to its unique note composition. The nonconformist mix of notes complement each other like a perfect fragrance symphony. This is some kinda Amouage voodoo magic but far, far better. It’s perfectly balanced but it’s all about the lavender, with the honey warming it with a golden not-too-sweet touch, the fruits are only just there to add tang and luckily the vanilla (which I usually detest) is non-offensive since its role is the add slight rounded depth to the base.
The juice itself looks like sexy blueish/purple industrial cleaner. I’ve never been so fixated to one sweet smelling spot on my arm. This blows all other Arabian attars out of the water.
Abdul Karim Faransi is the Arabian fragrance house of the future and probably the only one you need – plus, they sell samples so you don’t have to play blind-buy Russian roulette.
Edit: Now it’s going super-sweet like a high-street women’s scent. This had better change again… Bring on the dry-down.
Final edit: I’m back from the gym so I’ve fully warmed-up the oil against my skin and I’m very sorry to say the dry-down is an ultra-sweet, red-berry mess. So very, very different from the stunning opening. I’m dressed in black as I’m in morning.

Let me start this by saying that the house of Al Faransi is fantastic. I found this house on facebook. And I m glad that I did. With my experience and love for oriental perfumes esp the oils/ittr/attars I can that AKAF has created a wide range of scents in its catalogue. And I love the fact that they have also worked on scents keeping the western taste in mind as well as they are based in UK. Their oud blends and musk blends are of excellent quality and the nature feels very natural and complex. This particular gem starts with a beautiful note of lavender and berries dipped in honey laid on a bed of beautiful white musk devoid of any skank. It’s very sweet and feminine. It’s delicate all weather wear and shines on a woman’s skin. It is pretty potent yet sophisticated. Lasts an average 6 to 8 hours on the skin and clothes. The applicator is a glass dipstick inbuilt with beautiful artistic glass bottle with a metal knob. The best part is the pricing. I am glad they are gaining momentum everyday. I was pretty overwhelmed with my first round of purchase and will review each of those. Already looking forward to my next purchases. But I highly recommend the white/clear musks to ladies and the darker mukhallats, musks and ouds for gentlemen.
