If I could get my hands on another bottle of Crabtree and Evelyn Lily of the Valley I would be very pleased. Such a lovely fragrance, very floral with nice longevity (about 6 hours), feminine and little bit bold. When I didn’t know what to wear, I would reach for my bottle of Lily of the Valley. Great for the office and weekend activities and casual get togethers on summer evenings, particularly in Canada when the sun doesn’t set until around 10 pm. Nothing spectacular but really very nice.

Feb. 2017. This frag was obtained by me BEFORE I knew it was reformulated!
    ————————————————————–
Well this was fate! There is a thrift shop near me that I do not often frequent because their prices are pretty high for a “charity shoppe”.
Out of the blue- on a whim – and because they often get used fragrances – I took a trip there on my day off.
The prices on their “used” fragrances are really off the charts (used bottles of Estee Lauder Pleasures for $39.99, half used bottles of Britney Spears Panty Liner Fantasy for $18.99 , crazy prices for USED frags! )
All the while I have been looking for a good Lily of the Valley EDT because my bottle of Yardley LOTV is almost gone–and I needed something a little stronger (As much as I love Yardleys–they have no staying power).
Lo and behold what do I see in the glass case at the counter …. Evelyn & Crabtree Muget / Lily of the Valley in the box! (The box had age wear and seemed to be 10 or 15 years old?)
Never having tried anything by this company I expected a cheap department store “room spray” thingie — like something from Marshalls or T.J. CrapRack.
I asked the associate to show me the box–I took the 80% full bottle out and just sniffed the nozzle……WHAM! This is the real deal!
    I bought it on the spot………….$20.00 !
Paid & raced to my car and gave myself like 6 spritzes (which is way way too much as this stuff is STRONG–in fact this is a Lily of the Valley Bomb! Sounds pretty funny, I know. LOL)
First blast is an unbridled fresh watery white pretty feminine Lily of the Valley ! Like “orgasm strength” ! I was euphoric!
Now- ignoring the notes listed here (I always do) , I do not really get peach , citrus, or too much of anything else but a little Jasmine which MAY be giving this LOTV it’s “headiness”. This has GREEN in it as well- like green stems and leaves.
THIS IS STRONG STUFF! It lasts a very long time and develops into a lot of SOAPY notes.
If you have a SOAP issue you should avoid this . By nature I think LOTV (like Lilac) has a “soap note” built into it?
When the soap notes dried out — the next DAY I was left with a lovely gentle yet faint LOTV smell that echoed the first time I sniffed the nozzle in the store!
    FIN
Epilogue: So I come her to rave about my score and find out it’s been reformulated into a Yardley skin scent after all. Ironic!

Sweet fruity floral with lily of the valley. It’s not actually a soliflore or single flower scent. I thought it would be pure lily of the valley but this comes with violet rose and jasmine in a bouquet. There is also some fruit: delicious peach. There’s also oranges, citrus notes. The dry down is pure glowing radiant amber. The liquid does look like it’s got a lot of amber spilled into it like goo. This is a floral oil, rather oily and quite strong so all I need is one spritz. This is also great for scenting your home with, not exactly like air freshner but just to inhale the beautiful smell while you’re at home sitting in your living room reading a book or taking a nap on the couch. It’s an aroma of beautiful flowers I’ve always enjoyed: roses, violets, and lily of the valley. The lily of the valley plus the other flower and fruit for some reason bring to my mind this imagery: remember the scene in Disney’s Snow White when she’s in the forest singing to the animals “With A Smile And A Song”. This is a princess perfume, a flower princess, very feminine and sweet. I do love every note in it. If you enjoy citrus, peach, violets, roses and lily of the valley plus amber go out and buy this. Even blind buy is not gonna disappoint. Just so pretty.

Very true scent, just like the ones in my garden! It was also my mother’s signature scent for many years, so I will always love it, though I can’t seem to pull it off myself.

Beautiful! This is a fresh floral fragrance of spring. This is what I was looking for something that really does evoke that spring time freshness, that green scent, that white floral scent. This is lily of the valley the harbinger of spring. I wish it was more like a realistic lily of the valley. To my nose the most beautiful and perfect lily of the valley fragrance is Diorissimo by Dior and I have smelled some really nice soliflores that are pure lily of the valley. This one is fresh with citrus and a touch of peach sweet fruitiness. However it’s the lovely bouquet of flowers that really enchants me. The white lilies are paired up with rose, jasmine and violet. They’re detectable but the lily of the valley is still the strongest scent. The amber warmth and cleanness is lovely at the dry down. I am so loving this fragrance and purposely wearing it despite the fact that here in New York it’s still pretty much late winter lol

Sweet lily of the valley with a hint of sweetness, not too soapy or green. Reminds me a lot of what the flower is in nature. After a while the sweetness fades a bit — I think the fruit notes make it particularly sweet — and it dries down to a clean floral. Beautiful and classic treatment of lily of the valley! Great for day time wear for almost any occasion — good for casual, work, day time formal — it’s very versatile and works for many situations.

Very nice and feminine in small doses. One extra spray could bring on migraines, it is really that powerful. But it is very pretty in very small amounts.

I love LOVE Yardley Lily of the Valley lotion. So, I was so excited to find a tiny bottle of this C & E Lily of the Valley at TJ Max….smelled nice in the bottle. HOWEVER, when I put it on, it turned into Anais Anais/Avon Haiku, which I know both are L.O.V perfumes which smell beautiful on a friend of mine, but just do not agree with me. By the way, this bottle said “Lily” and not “Lily of the Valley”, so I assume it was the reformulation to which other reviewers referred. Sad…has anyone tried Kumba’s LOV oil? I am curious if it is closer to the real thing.

I really want to like this scent but it gives me a headache within minutes of putting it on. It really does smell like a posey of lilies but my senses can’t handle enough of it to get any decent sillage. A wonderful choice for spring though.

I have a vintage bottle from 1999. I originally mistook it for room spray and squandered half of it away. Later, I decided this is so much more than simple room spray.
This is May in a bottle. Lily of the valley grows on the north side of my home and the delicate little flowers smell just like this! Any time I need reminded them in blossom, I take a spray. It can last for hours and projects well.
I would almost venture to say “Diorissimo Jr”. Its a soliflore built on lily of the valley, of course. The other notes gently support this floral masterwork of pure essential oil that is no longer in perfumes of today. My bottle was $5.99 USD at a closeout store! Today it sells for $100 or more! I wouldnt consider selling it ever. It is a precious reminder of real perfumery!

I just love lily of the valley. It grew in the front yard of my childhood home. One year my sister woke me up on my birthday with a big bouquet of freshly picked lily of the valley on my pillow. All the childhood memories associated with these tiny bell shaped blossoms make it a very comforting scent to me. When I’m wearing it I feel light and carefree, like my ten year old self. It is a beautiful, feminine spring fragrance.
I wore the Crabtree & Evelyn Lily of the Valley perfume almost exclusively one summer 9 years ago. I was living in a small town that year. I remember going into the local library and the head librarian called out “Is that [stacia]? I can smell that gorgeous lily of the valley!” It seemed just right for my quiet small town adventures, like a princess who has run away from the palace to find a more peaceful life.
    I would buy this again.

This is very pretty. The soft, sweet, white floral opens up a bit crisp. Later the flowers are softened by rose and a minor lemony breeze. I found that the longevity isn’t the greatest, so needs to be re-applied often…but it is worth the trouble to maintain this comforting and alluring scent.

Lucky me, our local department store had just one bottle left.

This is one of my favoriye fragarnce: fresh and elegant. Maybe it is really traditional, but not old-fashioned. I wonder why C&E replace this beautiful smell with new Lily. I really hope to have the old one back.

WHY OH WHY OH WHY has this heavenly scent been reformulated!! I better get a bottle before they’re all snatched up.

  16. :

I agree. The first version was an honest perfume built around lily of the valley, very simple but balanced. Even if I’m not fond of this flower, I bought the perfume.
Good quality recipes and good ingredients: that’s what they should keep. Boycott the new! 😉

I just tried the new version, what a disappointment! Why did C&E do this to a beautiful, pure, distinct and classic scent?

If I had to choose between the three main white florals for a fragrance ie. Gardenias, Jasmines or Lily of the Valley. I would choose the later. Something about its sharp crisp notes draws me in like a moth to a flame.
Like my review for Gardenias this bottle is like C&T found a way to turn the Lily of the Valley plant into liquid and put it in a bottle. This scent is more for Lily of the Valley lovers then perfume addicts.

They’ve changed it, and not in a good way. I was in my local Crabtree and Evelyn store yesterday in search of this (I wear it every spring) and discovered a new packaging and name. It’s just called Lily now. I spritzed and was so disappointed. I mentioned to the SA that it was reformulated and she said “yes, isn’t it lovely?” I hate reformulations, they’re just like remakes of classic films, NEVER as good as the original.
I found Yardley’s Lily of the Valley today, on sale. It’s also a good rendition, but C & E’s lily was magnificent.

love this. a traditional lily of the valley perfume. they are one of my favorite flower scents, so this really does it for me.

This fragrance is the closest thing to the real flower as I have ever found. I can’t honestly say I smell any of the other notes. It’s lily of the valley all the way!
I bought the soap and put it into my dresser drawer to get make my clothes smell nice.

Ok it does smells very nice I purchased this on sale and I liked it. But it stays too close to my skin, so I returned it and got a much more fragrant scent Jessica McClintock Always and Forever. Sorry but the Crabtree and Evelyn silliage was just not enough to keep me.

Strong shimmering rose and jasmine water scent with a slight powdery’ness. Its strong even in the eau de toilette. It’s not exactly green scent but definitely floral, fresh, and very classic european scent. It would be great for someone who likes floral fragrance with a little bit of old world edge.

This flower is my ultimate “happy” smell. It has some very specific, powerful associations and memories for me.
I also happen to adore floral perfumes – so this one is perfection for me.
It’s a *very* pure lily of the valley scent, with a touch of sweetness without any indolic presence.
    Good sillage, good staying power.
I try to sort of ration this one, simply because it impacts me so emotionally. When I need a comforting and/or uplifting scent, this is what I reach for.
If you like lily of the valley this one is a must-try.
In my experience, most of Crabtree & Evelyn’s scents and lotions are delightful without artificial or plasticy accords. There are some terrific scents by this line.

No, this is not for me. I love lily of the valley as flower and fondly remember long afternoons in the forest behind our house, picking them before it was forbidden. But in a perfume? This shouts young and lovely, which I am not, and that’s a real pity. You might say this perfume is too lovely for me.
After reading the good reviews, I might give it another try. Crabtree and Evelyn do produce lovely, under-stated everyday fragrances, but Lily of the Valley… well, others can’t abide vanilla or musk or chypre, and I can’t “do” lily of the valley.
If you like the pure lily of the valley scent, however, get this perfume. You feel as though you are sticking your nose into a beautiful bunch of flowers.

I bought this for my very old mother, before she moved into Frail Care. I will always associate it with her – one of her very favourite fragrances.
It’s beautiful – fresh and VERY lily of the valley. If you love the flower and its scent, you will no doubt adore this!
