I was so upset when I realised how ridiculously expensive this edition was. Agreed, the bottle top is a bit… incongruously phallic, but the blue glass was a great idea and I had read somewhere that the gold flowers were a jewel that you could wear separately.
At the same time as this came out, Guerlain also released the “Collection 100 ans”, a limited edition, three-fold homage to l’Heure Bleue which offered three variations on the iconic scent, respectively baptised Aurore, Zenith and Crepuscule. I got immediately really excited and vowed to purchase them… But as it turned out, the set was the price of a car and had clearly been marketed for a clientele of Saudi princesses and supermodels rather than for humble munchkins like yours truly.
I considered armed robbery for a minute, or pestering my gran to give me her life savings, but eventually decided that getting a criminal record over a bottle of perfume, no matter how fabulous, wasn’t exactly stylish or in keeping with the spirit of the Belle Epoque.
Still, my heart bleeds.
