Description

“Today, Lancôme has appointed some of the greatest contemporary perfumers to pay homage to Lancôme’s founder, Armand Petitjean. The result is Maison Lancôme’s new collection of fragrances that so exquisitely touch upon and carry on Petitjean’s dream, and the essence of the House itself.

This new High Perfumery experience takes a creative stance: the very French art of blending. Each fragrance is crafted in the same manner that one composes a wine of the most superior grade (Grand cru), with a combination of varieties, origins, and extractions that are all specially selected according to precise criteria.” – a note from the brand.

L’Autre Oud was launched in 2016. The nose behind this fragrance is Christophe Raynaud.

Oud is a rather recent discovery for me, and I simply cannot have enough of it! This one is definitely one of the best. Mesmerizing and addictive. Dark elegance, mysterious and seductive. Mature experience, when the years gone by have made one wiser and more daring at the same time. A dark red rose at the button-hole of a silk velvet dinner jacket. Or a burgundy evening gown. Someone who enjoys dressing up for going to the opera or the opening night of a star-studded play. Someone for whom only the best is good enough. And then more…

One spray will last longer than all day. It smells like a high-quality antiques store to me (this is a good thing). I can smell it on my boyfriend from across the room. I wear it too, sometimes, but only a partial spray because it overwhelms my nose easily. Definitely not suitable for work, going out to dinner (all your food will taste of this scent), or being in close quarters with the public. An enjoyable fragrance to use occasionally.
Edited to add: my boyfriend wore this once and got some on his shirt. Shirt went through the wash with unscented laundry detergent. It still smells like L’Autre Oud.

Today i’m wearing Lancome’s l’autre oud from the previous 75ml bottle in the white box on one hand, and this L’autre oud from the square 100ml bottle on the other.
They are Absolutely the Same! Heavy, distinct oud, but the same perfume in a bigger bottle and double the price!

Paper doesn’t do this one justice. It’s amazing on skin. It’s another rose oud but I think it’s the best one I’ve tried. The rose is like entering a flower shop filled with red roses. The oud is top notch. And I normally despise olbanium but here it really improves the composition with its sappy ness. Ut does have a few kinks that need to be worked out though. It dries down and starts to smell like hay. Thats when I like it less.

A frenchified pricy Oudh. And flowers of course. I was pleasantly surprised by the finesse of the composition. Bought it from a discounter. After 10 hours, the Oudh still feels expensive, not like the cheap ones that go sour and cloying. And it is sweet. I like it.
Climat for me, was Lancôme’s opus magnum. After that, nothing seduced me.

Now i must say, I’ve smelled a lot of this french trending ouds, and this one is very nice quality indeed, the best I’ve smelled and this include some also high class brands, a very french style oud indeed but very nice quality, the incense used in this one is amazing, one of my favorites from this brand.
What I get on my skin at least is a good quality woody-oud, a bit dusty with a very nice blended incense, a tiny touch of rose to give it some sparkle, didn’t detect much saffron which to me is a good thing, all the other notes are very well blended, I find it very elegant, soft yet it has a very well know presence, first impressions where a love.
Unfortunately, much more expensive then the previous one, I cannot find this one online with the same price has the older one, that it seems to have more rose in it

This was a blind buy for me….the smoky incense is the main reason why. This smelled like loud roses, hay and leather. Smelled just like a horse barn… old wood, leather and roses. It reminded me of something… tea rose maybe but I was disapointed… I was looking for something dark and smokey which I didn’t get at all. I returned it in store and bought the Tubereuse Castane and the Jasmines Marzipan… both which I love and today the Roses Berberanze came in the mail and I love it so far! I’ve now smelled them all with the exception of Parfait de Roses.

I do not understand reviewers who claim that oudh is “de rigeur” or this is just another oudh perfume. I have purchased plenty of them because they are all different….sometime the difference is subtle….and sometimes the difference is astonishing. Lancome l’autre oud uses an oudh very similar to Emilio Zegna’s indonesian oud. That is where the similarities end. Lancome has more of an incense and less of a rose blend. It works, works subtly, and most importantly works well.

This is a dry & woody-smoky one, less rosy than the previous version with a nutty kind of oud similar to Ralph Lauren’s, but better

This is my second review of L’Autre Oud, having finally tested it.
It doesn’t smell at all like Magnifique. It is an oudh-based fragance, with resins and touches of rose. Luckily, the saffron and the nagarmotha are not very noticeable.
It is just another oudh fragance, targeted mainly, I think, to Eastern markets, with a Parisian touch. Since such fragances are not usually very much of my liking, I find it not special. It is not bad at all (it smells rich and opullent, and the bottle, by the way, is impressive), but, like many other niche perfumes, I find it overpriced.

Ok people, after my rather crappy experience with Diors exclusives, this one is a revelation! I was lucky enough to try it on the day of its launch and after restraining myself for a couple of minutes I just had to have it.
First of all, the scent is heavy and quite intense but even if oud can be strange smelling, this blend is perfectly balanced, making it a unique composition to my nose. Usually rose itches my nose but here it only whisperes in the background, making space for the majestic incense. Saffron connects the components harmoniously and leaves you with a sensual and captivating fragrance. Its like mixing the best of Pradas classic for women with Amber Oud by Kilian.
Give it some time to develop on your skin, you ll be under its spell within minutes, I promise you.
Suited for all amber lovers and fans of (truly) oriental fragrances!

Hmmnnn…Let’s see… the notes in this one sound very similar to the ones in the now discontinued Magnifique…
I guess they have put the old stuff (plus the oudh note, today “de rigueur” in all super fancy perfumes) in new, fancier bottles, triplied the price and…voilà, new, exclusive perfume in another posh super expensive line that very few people are actually going to buy…
